Need advice for a SIMPLE how to in PE 10

I know Premiere Elements is a powerful program, but sometimes they get too cute and make it difficult to figure out how to do the most basic of tasks. I have PE 10 and here's what I'm trying to do:
split a 60 minute AVI file into 10 six minute segments -- I do this with the scissor tool and see the 10 clips separated in the sceneline (so far so good)
now I want to save each of the segments to its own separate MPEG file (instinct would be to right click on each clip in the sceneline and select "save as" but that would be too simple)
the only solution I see is to delete all but the single clip I want from the sceneline, click the share tab to save as MPEG, then hit the "undo" button until all the clips are back on the sceneline, and repeat the process with clip2, clip3, etc.
Am I missing something here? Seems like a LOT of work for such a simple task.

Above the timeline is the work area bar. Set this to cover the clip you wish to export (through the Share tab) and select the Work Area Bar only checkbox.

Is there something specific in TP4 that you want to use TP4 - as John suggests, it might be an idea to use the full production release (11g). As for resources for information you can check out

If you are using Windows Vista go to All Programs/Palm and click on the folder and select Hot Sync Manager and then try to sync with the USB cable. If you are using the Windows XP go to Start/Programs/Palm/Hot Sync Manager and then try to sync. If you don’t have the palm folder at all on your PC you have to install it. Need advice for escalating warranty repair

hi all,
around easter I noticed my daughters 2007 C2D macbook(white) developing hairline cracks in the backcase near three stress points, near the tabs on both sides that hold it off the topcase and in the middle from constant opening of the machine. the local genius said applecare would cover it but she needed it for school so I delayed sending it in. My Bad. She comes home with a chip in the topcase and about 12-14 dead pixels in the display. Sent it off for repair and Apple said the screen showed signs of abuse( not completely out of the question) due to one section that seems to have been "bruised" and is leaking. Unless she or a spurned lover took an icepick to the screen I don't see how she caused over a dozen pixels scattered all over the display to fail but I am not an engineer. The problem is they will not perform the case repair unless I agree to the $800 LCD replacement. The reason being they can't perform a partial repair. The way I heard it is until I replace the LCD at my expense apple in unable to do any warranty repairs and i have 14 Months of Applecare left. My local apple store is closed for renovations or I would go there where they recognize me for advice. Powerbook Medic quotes $250 for screen replacement. should I do that and then resubmit the machine to Apple for case repair? Is there a Phone number for customer service other than tech support I could try to escalate this case with? The only one I see is the Apple Store CS for orders and such. Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations?

Need advice for installing flex application in touch screen Kiosks

We have a requirement in one of our project to create touch screen interfaces and I am intending to user Adobe Flex for the development and run them in Adobe Air because, definitely it saves development time and great look and feel.
However, I need advice on how to connect the application to a touch screen events like we do on Keyborad and mouse events like, click() or onFocus etc.

Bar Code Scanners are no different than keyboards in my experience. It just sends the text to whatever application is open. Integrating it with Flex requires no effort. You just have to be sure that Flex is the current application and the field you want to put the data in is given focus.
In a point of sale application with very specific use case and limited interface, it is easy to force the app to give focus to the input field that needs to accept your input.
Credit card swipers work the same way.
I don't know about a weighing scale, but I bet it is very similar. If not, you may want to use Java for scale integration and then use Merapi to integrate with the Java applet.

Need advice for wireless iTunes access (have router already)

I'm having a hard time sifting through all the info to find the best solution. I have a MacBook Pro that I'll soon be upgrading to Lion from Snow Leopard, as well as an iPhone, with a second iPhone soon to enter the family. We also plan to get an iPad. We actually have an older iMac that we won't be upgrading, so we're going to move our iTunes library from the iMac over to the MacBook (basically turning the MacBook into our primary computer). We want to be able to play iTunes without having to keep the MacBook plugged into wired speakers. That seems a bit pointless.
We have a wireless router already (a D-Link), so I don't need AirPort Express to act as a router. (We have a 1 bedroom condo, really no reason to extend the network or anything like that.) We have a printer that works wirelessly with the MacBook already. All I'm really trying to figure out is the best way to set it up so that we can have iTunes on the MacBook, playing over speakers (either the ones we currently have our iMac plugged into, or our stereo speakers that we have our TV setup with). Ideally if we could do the same from the iPhone and (future) iPad, that would be great, too.
Does it make any sense for us to get an AirPort Express to do this, or would it just be more straightforward to get wireless speakers that can work over Bluetooth (like the Creative D200 ones in the Apple store)? I feel like the AirPort has the potential to be overkill for our usage, especially since I can't seem to figure out if you can use AirTunes with an iPad, and we don't need it for the wireless printing functions.

Need Help for a simple Keypress to advance to next frame

I am pretty weak at Action script. I need to create a simple presentation that displays a bunch of photos. I want to be able to hit the space bar to advance to next picture. I am able to stop the playhead at the picture, but i want to advance to next labelled frame by hitting the space bar. Some help would be great.

Thanks for the quick response, I have a 4 pictures on 4 seperate layers. The starting keyframe for each picture is labeled "Slide 01"," Slide 02" etc. When i test movie, it automatically plays the first picture labeled "Slide 01". At the end that slides frames I have a stop action. When I hit the space bar, i want the playhead to jump to the next slide which it's start keyframe is labeled "Slide 02". It has a few frames to allow for fadeing in, and then a stop action on the last keyframe. And so on.
I entered your code and placed the goto and play event handler to jump to the next slide's keyframe which i labeled "Slide 02". I did get the following error:

Need advice for an application that restricts access to other applications using a smart card

Hello everybody,
I am developing a system that uses a smart card reader attached to a USB port of a PC.
What the system should provide is:
When computer boots up and shows the users login screen, a user, previously registered, can use his smart card to access the system, instead of entering his password
Once the user is logged in, when he tries to launch an application, which has previously marked as "secured", a dialog box is shown indicating that the user has to present his smart card. If the smart card has access to the application, the application
is launched, otherwise an error message is shown to the user and the application is not executed.
I develop in C++ and C#. I have already created a library (in Visual C++) that manages the smart card reader and provides the card presented to it.
Now I am developing the applicastion (in C#) that will configure the security (assigning cards to users and applications).
Concerning this, I have 2 questions regarding each point above:
Is it possible to create the centralized application that lists all users and allows to assign cards to them? Then, when the users login screen is shown, the system must access that data before logging in, so that it can check which card was presented and
what user it corresponds to. I have seen in laptops, that have embedded fingerprint readers, a user must login to his account first and then he can register his fingerprints. In fact, what I need to do is something similar but with smart card reader instead
of fingerprint reader. So, perhaps, user must login into his account first and then he will be able to add his card and store that information somewhere (in windows registry maybe).
How can I launch my application when other application is executed but before its interface is actually shown? this is similar to what antivirus programs do, because they check the executable before it is actually ran. What is the best method to address
the application? by executable file name? process name? or other? if the best is by process name, how can I know the process name without actually running the application?
Well, that is all what I need to do. Please advice regarding this subject.

1. Research other software that does similar things (not just exactly the same) as you need. If you like something in their solutions, copy it :)
The only software I know that does that is an antivirus, but I am unlucky to find some code in c++ that allows to intercept the program execution before actually executing it.
2. If a kernel driver would fit in your solution, go for it (google for what is available for free, or find a consultant to write it for you).
There are a lot of information about kernel drivers, but the question is, is that really the solution?
Otherwise, you can just hide the application from user's reach and substitute the executable in shortcuts, etc. to run your program instead.

By executable file name, like in the Windows Applocker, I think. Processes do not have names (they are artifact of Task manager and debugging tools, to represent the processes for user somehow). Or, only by the filename part of the full path.

When the user runs the application, the driver will detect this and do its magic.

Need advice for dispalying multiple rows with datatable.

We have to design a conference booking search form which contains nX48 table.
n -> indicates the conference rooms and 48 are the time slots(30 mins gap).
While booking a conference room user enteres from time and to-time and from and to dates.
In our search form, user searches with in the range of dates and times.
We give a option for user to view according to date wise or room wise.
Now main prblm is that we are capturing from and to times but how do we represent in data table.
out of 48 columns assume only 4 slots are booked i.e 1200 hrs to 1400 hrs. so we need to display an image in that columns and up on clicking on that cell we have to produce data regarding that booking.
In our pojo we have to and from time variables , but how can we display in datatable..should have to take a 48 column pojo.., if so how can I get the data at intersection point?

You could certainily create a 48 or 96 column grid. I would assume a simple "bar" image would go into that grid. You can create a method that gets called to determine if the image is rendered or not. Use a stylesheet (inline style) to set the width of the grid.
While making a table with 48 column definitions is somewhat messy it is certainly no harder than cut and paste. The messy part is how to implement the boolean getter (DI) call to determine if a cell image is rendered as this would require 48 or 96 unique method definitions (one for each time slot). If you are will to do this then the solution is straight forward with a table.
As for clicking on the image cell that is not an issue and easily handled.
You have not mentioned what component suite you want to use. May I recommend that you take a look at Apache Trinidad (MyFaces project) or Oracle's ADF offering.
If not you could do this with two tag iterators (e.g. tr:iterator) but fussing with trying to make sure you get cell alignment might be hard to do since you would not have a "master" grid in which you would be rendering your data.
Could also write your own component ... but suspect you don't want to go there.
You will find that they provide a robust table implementation that also supports the concept of "details", sort of a drill down capability that you can add to see additional information associated with a summary line in a table.

BFILE: need advice for best practice

I'm planning to implement a document management system. These are my requirements:
(0) Oracle 11gR2 on Windows 2008 server box
(1) Document can be of type Word, Excel, PDF or plain text file
(2) Document will get stored in DB as BFILE in a table
(3) Documents will get stored in a directory structure: action/year/month, i.e. there will be many DB directory objects
(4) User has read only access to files on DB server that result from BFILE
(5) User must check out/check in document for updating content
So my first problem is how to "upload" a user's file into the DB. My idea is:
- there is a "transfer" directory where the user has read/write access
- the client program copies the user's file into the transfer directory
- the client program calls a PL/SQL-procedure to create a new entry in the BFILE table
- this procedure will run with augmented rights
- procedure may need to create a new DB directory (depending on action, year and/or month)
- procedure must copy the file from transfer directory into correct directory (UTL_FILE?)
- procedure must create new row in BFILE table
Is this a practicable way? Is there anything that I could do better?

Need advice for erasing disk/partition

Hey everyone,
I currently have a Mac Pro that is partitioned with both Lion and Snow Leopard. I'm trying to un-partition the computer and wipe it clean - thinking of updating to Mountain Lion but would like to stay with Snow Leopard for now if possible.
I erased the Lion partition by using Disk Utility but now I'm wondering what the best way to clean the computer is.
When I go into Disk Utility and go to "Erase" it won't let me select Snow Leopard. I went to Disk Utility Help and it says "To erase your computer’s startup disk, you must start up from another disk, such as a Mac OS X installation disc."
This means that I need a hard copy of an OS installation disc before I can erase/clean Snow Leopard? Is it possible to buy the disc from Apple or are the OS systems only available for download through the app store now? Are they only selling Mountain Lion?
Any tips or advice here is greatly appreciated!

What is wrong with your 10.6 Snow leopard installation that it needs to be "cleaned"? Macs generally do not need to be cleaned, as they do not accumulate filth.
How did you get 10.6 snow Leopard onto your computer in the first place?

Needed, Advice for Graphics Card & OSX Capabilities

I have a Dual 1 GHz Power PC G4 (Mirror Door) tower from 2002 (s/n#XB24706DMMA) (Model#M8570)
The graphics card is the original ATI 64MB AGP slot. Can anyone recommend a better card 128MB or 256MB?
Also, Currently I run OS 10.3.9 which is Panther.
Does anyone know how far up I can go with the Operating System? Tiger? Leopard?

Need advice for a Windows convert: An alternative to Peachtree accounting.

My friend has been running his business on Windows for over 10 years and is fed up with the usual Windows issues. He wants to switch everything to a Mac (a Mini to be specific). I told him I'd help him migrate, but the biggest problem I can see right now is that all of his accounting has been done on PeachTree and all of his email/correspondence is in Outlook. He's been using both of these applications on a daily basis for over 10 years so there is a lot of precious data he can't afford to lose.
My questions:
1. What alternative is there to Peachtree that runs natively on OS X? It must be something that can be 100% migrated over. Running any software on Windows (via Parallels or Boot Camp) is not an option. He does not want to use Windows ever again if possible. Another reason to ditch Peachtree is because it costs him $700/year to use; a savings that will pay for a Mac Mini.
2. Can everything from Outlook be imported into Mail?
I'm not a Windows user so despite reading about "how easy it is to switch", I question just how painless the process is. I need to make sure I do everything right the FIRST time with minimal down time.
