Need Advice fr/ Graphic Designers/Video Editors about Glossy Screens

Would like to hear some advice from industry professionals working in Graphic Design and Video Editing about working on a Glossy Screen MBP.
No offense, but please do not share speculative responses (these forums are notorious for that) I just want people who actually own a glossy screen MBP.
Many thanks,
O.

I do not have a glossy screen MBP (just a matte one), but I had a glossy Toshiba prior to this. I do a lot of 3D, and I definitely prefer the matte to the glossy. The shiny screen gives me headaches after about an hour, and has no major benefits that Apple says they do (except look all shiny and new).
I'll never buy a glossy lcd again.

  • Needed, Advice for Graphics Card & OSX Capabilities

    I have a Dual 1 GHz Power PC G4 (Mirror Door) tower from 2002 (s/n#XB24706DMMA) (Model#M8570)
The graphics card is the original ATI 64MB AGP slot. Can anyone recommend a better card 128MB or 256MB?
Also, Currently I run OS 10.3.9 which is Panther.
Does anyone know how far up I can go with the Operating System? Tiger? Leopard?
    Thank you for any advice.

Hi Scott, see japamac's page about G4/G5 Graphic cards...
    http://www.jcsenterprises.com/Japamacs_Page/Blog/4B4B7BA2-7ABB-47F1-87AC-B03D379 42BEE.html
As far as OSes go, either Tiger or Leopard...
    Tiger Requirements...
To use Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, your Macintosh needs:
    * A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
    * Built-in FireWire
    * At least 256 MB of RAM (I recommend 1GB minimum)
    * DVD drive (DVD-ROM), Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) or SuperDrive (DVD-R) for installation
    * At least 3 GB of free disk space; 4 GB if you install the XCode 2 Developer Tools (I recommend 20GB minimum)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1514
See Tom's, (Texas Mac Man), great info on where/how to find/get Tiger...

Or Ali Brown's great info on where/how to find/get Tiger...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10381710#10381710
    Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
    * Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
    minimum system requirements
    * 512MB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
    * DVD drive for installation
    * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
You have to call Apple & see if they still have Leopard available.

  • I need advice on creating streaming video applications in FMIS

    Hello all,
I have gone through Tom Green's helpful tutorials on streaming from the vod folder (FMS Developer) and using his application to stream from the applications folder (FMIS).
What I need to know now, is what to do to create a player for use on my video page. Just when I think I have this figured out a little more, I end up stymied.
For example, I just downloaded and read through the 22-page intro to the RealEyes REOPS player. This isn't the first time I have researched this player, but every time I start reading up on it, it feels as though it's making sense, then the treatment drifts straight into software engineer-speak and I'm left thinking this will be impossible to grasp.
I researched Strobe. Yet another exceedingly-difficult bit of information to understand when you're a beginner. Ultimately leaving me staring at the screen wondering what I just read.
I have a full, licensed copy of FMIS running on my web server and I want to stream video from it. I really don't care if the player is flashy or not...I want the viewer to enjoy the video, that's what is important. I don't need closed captioning, I just want a full-screen capable player. Something basic that will play SH and h.264 clips. If one player can't be made to do both, I'll need one for each.
I'm self-taught PHP and database design, self-taught web designer, I have tackled big projects before and I am undaunted by this one...I JUST need some idea where to go.
For instance, when forst prompted to read Tom Green's tutorials, they made no sense to me. It took helpful posts from all of you on this forum to get me to the 'aha!' moments that allowed me to appreciate Tom's tutorials. I need that 'aha!' with regards to buildign applications. The one Tom uses in his Part 3, Beginner's guide to using ActionScript 3.0 with Flash Media Server 3.5 tutorial is cool, but it's not a player. I know enough to change the RTMP path and video filename to make this thing stream my files from my server, but there's another gap in what I want to do and what I need to know to head in that direction.
Any and all input will be absolutely appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    wordman

  • HELP!! i need advice how to put video to my ipod??

Anyone help, just got my new ipod & i'm having trouble putting video's on it, i can put them in the video library in itunes but they wont transfer over to the ipod?? any ideas as i'm getting miffed ........

iPod only support 2 codecs, mpeg4 and h.264, both have to be encased in .m4v .mp4 or .mov files. If your files are not in one of these formats you'll have to convert them and they have to be under the maximum resolution for the format you chose. Videora seems to be the converter of choice for windows users.

  • Need advice on choosing a video card.

I am in the process of assembling a newer PC for editing & rendering footage primarily from Nikon dslrs.  I have a 5960X chip, Gigabyte GA-99 MB with 24 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD for C: drive.  At NAB I talked with Adobe, Nvidia & AMD reps and I'm still confused on choosing a video card within reasonable cost and the BEST performance!  My choices so far are the AMD 8100 for ~1000$ & Nvidia 2000 for ~350$, 4000 for ~790$, 4200 for ~890$ and can't afford the 6000.  Of my choices which would be the better choice (or your suggestions)?

None of them. The only sensible choices would be the nVidia GTX 970 or 980.
    See Tweakers Page
The AMD is twice the price of the 980 and delivers half the performance. The Quadro K4200 is also overpriced and performs no better than the old GTX 660Ti for around € 275.
Better increase memory to 32 or 64 GB. 24 causes slow performance because of not using the quad channel architecture.

  • Need advice about second graphics card for PowerPC G5

My boss bought me a second monitor for our office computer, so we can use two monitors on one computer.  The problem is we need a second graphics card to handle the second monitor and I'm not sure what to buy.
The computer is a  Dual 2.7 GHz Power PC G5.
The second monitor that my boss gave me is a View Sonic HD Widescreen LCD with a DVI-D single link connector.
What should we buy to make all of this work together?  The company I work for is very cheap, so we need to do this rather inexpensively.

You don't need a second card (which would kill several advanced features on the main card anyway) but a card with two appropriate output connectors.
What card is in the machine at present?  Open System Profiler in /Applications/Utilities and click on the Graphics/Displays item under Hardware, viz. this screen grab:
The top bold-face line will have the information you need, plus if two monitors are supported (which I am betting is true) one of the displays entries will be "No Display Connected."  I am pretty sure that any card that came with the 2.7 originally has two video connectors, probably DVI.  According to the specs listed on the Power Macintosh specs pages, the 2.7 base card had a single-link and dual-link pair of DVI connectors.

  • Need advice on video software.

    Need advice on video software.
I currently use adobe elements 3 and have done so for a few years now with no problems. my os is XP and my system is a couple of years old, but we do have a brand new win7 machine in the house.
I am currently look at Cyberlink PowerDirector 8 Ultra OR Adobe Premiere Elements 8. Reviews for both softwares seem very good BUT, when I dig deeper into user reviews instead of editor reviews do I find problems.
Major problems with program crashing all over the place, at start up etc, and it is still not getting along with any win7 machine? Major problems with drivers. Honestly, I do not want to have to jump through dozens of hoops to get any software to run. After I pay for it, it should run, period.
Has anyone else here used both softwares and can you give an honest opinion of each?
I am also asking these same questions on the cyberlink site.
I would like to upgrade my video software to take advantage of the new features that are coming out but I really don't want a big headache trying to run one or the other. To be fair, when I bought adobe elements 3 I had also bought pinnacle, which has gathered dust since my first week with it, which is why elements was purchased. That was money wasted and I do not wish to repeat this. I would like to go with Premiere Elements 8 but remain very unsure.

If your newer machine is Win7 64-bit, it might be worth waiting for SP-1 to be issued, and then hope that 64-bit drivers are fully included. The 64-bit drivers now seem t be an issue at this point, and that will affect any NLE program.
Also, and regardless of which particular program you choose, optimizing your computer, the OS, the hardware, and the resources management, will go a very long way to insuring success. Few programs can tax a computer, as an NLE can - any NLE. Video and Audio editing will stress your system, like almost nothing else can, except for heavy-duty CAD, or 3D work, though those are usually done only on specialized, optimized computers, designed just for those applications.
Not the specific advice that you seek, but it's the best that I can do.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

FPC wont let me render! I'm a video editor and have over 70 gb worth of videos on the imac which all need to be kept for various clients/backup/original versons but now beloved imac is full, only had it for 5 months! Will Ineed external hard drive every 5 months?? This can't be I've already resorted to getting rid of unsed applications such as garage band, iTunes, address book ect. I've trashed everything I could. what next ???
My video files are massive, converting them to a different format doesn't reduce the size of them it just turns them into mp4 or apple pro res ect
This iMac is for work only so there's no pictures, no music, no conacts, no messenger, no games, nonothing but videos!!

Have a look at this: http://grandperspectiv.sourceforge.net/
It will show you exactly what is taking up all of your space.
You also may want to consider some kind of external storage just for your video projects.

  • Need advice on video download and edit

I need to download and edit video, have not done it before. My Mac is a PowerBook G4 from 2005. The videocamera I have is a Sony GL2 digital which uses a mini DV cassette. I have a cable, a 4-pin DV to 6-pin firewire. What software do I need? (Currently I have only graphics apps, Adobe CS2, Dreamweaver, Flash, Quark.) The type of editing I need to do initially is cut out crap scenes, piece together good scenes, and export mpeg clips. I do not have a DVD writer on this Mac. I love Adobe products but I can't spring for Premiere right now.

iMovie came with the computer. Capture and cut away.
You'll need an external DVD burner if you want to output stuff. iDVD will allow you to burn the video to disk.

  • Need video editor for 603

i need video editor and photos editor for nokia 603

have you checked that the video and photo editor isn't in the Gallery application? if it isn't , you can try re-installing your current firmware thru Nokia Suite.
as for other photo editors/video editors, whatever is available in the Nokia Store is your best bet.

  • Need video editor recommendation

Anyone know of a free video editor that will allow me to target a moving object in video for masking purposes?
    Thanks

    Hi:
If you MAc is AGP the best option is the ATI X800 XT:
    http://ati.amd.com/products/radeonx800/radeonX800xtme/
I heard that is no so easy to get these days !
The other AGP option is the Nvidia 6800:

  • Need advice on new mac for video editing.

Hello!  I'm throwing $4,000 down on a new iMac to use for video editing and various other design purposes.  I'm maxing it out with a 3.75ghz quad core intel i7, 32 gigs of ram, 4 gigs of video ram and a 1t sold state hard drive.  With being a creative cloud subscriber  and updates being rolled out constantly, as a video editor do you think i'll get at least 5-7 years out of this mac.  I also do 3d animates with after effects and cinema 4d.  Thanks!  Any advice and feedback is greatly appreciated.

I made last updates to PC configuration (updates - bold) and soon going to buy. So... maybe final check:
    CPU:  Intel Core i7-3930K 3.2GHz
    Cooler:  Corsair Hydro H70
    MB:  Asus P9X79 PRO
    RAM: Corsair Vengeance Black 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3-1600 CL9 1.35V XMP1.3
    Video:  Asus GTX670-DC2-2GD5
    HDD:  Samsung 830 Series 128GB SATA3 520/320MBs (system disk)
              2 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB SATA3 7200RPM 64MB (scratch/cache/render disk) *
    PSU:  CORSAIR AX850 80+ GOLD
    DVD:  LiteOn BD-RE iHBS212-32
    Case:  ANTEC P280
    OS:  Win7 Pro OEM
    RAID:  G-SPEED eS (RAID 5, projects/media)
    * Due to a limited budget, at the beginning I'll use HDD's in non-RAID configuration or will build RAID0 based on MB RAID controller

  • Need advice about certification: do J2SE 1.4 or wait for 1.5 to go out?

I need advice here! I am studing for Java Programmer certification (310-035) and I know now that the certification does not have any expiration date, instead it's version based. So, if I get now a J2SE 1.4 certification, soon it will be outdated... I guess!
Does anyone know or have any ideia of WHEN java 1.5 sdk will be avaliable, and anyone can tell me how long it will take for a new 1.5 programmer certification be avaliable for general public?

Do both. 1.5 is far enough away that you do not want to wait for it.
And besides, 1.5 has enough new stuff in it that you'll want to recertify anyway.

  • I have PSE 12 but only Video editor shows up, I need the photo editor

I bought PSE 12 for a class, but when I opened the program, only Organizer and Video Editor pops up.  The box says "create more amazing photographs", but there is no photo editor

Thanks for answering!  The disc is titled " adobe  photoshop elements 12" (windows).  In smaller print off to the right side I see it says "Adobe Premier Elements 12 Trial Included".  Did I just install it improperly?  If so, can I delete PSE from my computer & re-load it?  Thanks!
