Need advice on Career in SAP after completing 9 yrs in IT mainly in Telecommunication Domain with BMC Remedy Tool knowledge
Need advice on Career in SAP after completing 9 yrs in IT mainly in Telecommunication Domain with BMC Remedy Tool knowledge.
Which Module of SAP I can learn and get into as I have Tool based knowledge in BMC Remedy and fair knowledge in SQL, as I come from non-IT background. What are career prospect after completing any SAP module now will my previous experience will be taken into account?
Prashant,
One of the reasons nobody has replied to you yet is that, this is a question with so little information provided.
- There is no mention of your education background.
- Your work background is very vague.What exactly did you do in Telecommunication Domain?
- What exactly did you do in BMC Remedy? Where you just an end-user or did you do any background support work?
- What exactly did you do in SQL? Did you work on it or did you just attend training?
- Why do you want to jump into SAP? And what precisely you want to jump into in SAP?
- What are your interests? Technical or Non-technical?
- What's your career objective? Where do you want to be 5 years from now?
Without providing these information how can anyone help you? Picking a module and going with it makes no sense. What if you spend an insane amount of time and money learning a module in SAP (based on some random suggestions given here) and realize that this is not what you were looking for, or there is little scope for that module in the market? What then?
It's your career that you are planning. It definitely deserves more thought-process and planning to go into.

Dear Experts,
I'm in a dilemma over entering into domain of SAP at 42 years age.
I'm a BCom Degree holder working in a IT company in Finance Department having 10 years of experience in Finance only. I am in AP Function. I am now 42 years planning to change my career to SAP as a Consultant
Is this a right decision at this age.
Can anyone please guide me through the various options available in SAP finance and the career prospects
Thanks in advance!
PKPK,
In SAP FI probably there is a chance of getting into the role of a consultant; getting a job and flourishing (saying on the basis of your strong domain experience).
But in general, 40+ it is an uphill to start a Functional career, office dynamics, age and ego clashes etc. etc. have made many experienced people leave SAP and return back to domain.
If you desire is strong and will persevere, then by all means go for it. -
Need to run 2 concurrent programs after completing child concurrent program
Hi,
Could you suggest me on below:
R12/ 11g
I have main concurrent program MAIN_CONC_PG.
In this concurrent program there is a child concurrent program CHLD_CONC_PG.
This child concurrent program will run for parameters 1,2,3,4,5.
CHLD_CONC_PG program will run simultaneously 5 times:
CHLD_CONC_PG ==> 1
CHLD_CONC_PG ==> 2
CHLD_CONC_PG ==> 3
CHLD_CONC_PG ==> 4
CHLD_CONC_PG ==> 5
Now, after completion of above 5 Child Concurrent programs i have to start 2 more concurrent programs using fnd_request.submit_request:
1) Item Attributes
2) Vendor populate
Thanks.931832 wrote:
yes, both the Conc Programs are part of Main Conc Prog.

IN my Main Conc Prog, i have below child conc prog. after completing below program i have to run 1) Item Attributes 2) Vendor populate conc progms.

if upper(l_dev_status) in ('WARNING', 'ERROR') and upper(l_dev_phase) in ('COMPLETE') then
return false;
elsif upper(l_dev_status) in ('NORMAL') and upper(l_dev_phase) in ('COMPLETE') then
return true;
else
return false;
end if;
else
return false;
end if;
end program_successful;
begin
for i in 1..v_count loop
l_reqid_tbl(i) := fnd_request.submit_request....
end loop;
for i in 1..l_reqid_tbl.count loop
if program_successful(l_reqid_tbl(i)i) then

Need advice on restoring from TimeMachine after new harddrive install
I will be installing a larger hard drive in my MacBook Pro tomorrow.
I have Time Machine backup on on an external drive.
I would appreciate any tips on restoring once I get the new 500gb drive installed.
I also have a full drag and drop backup on another external HD.
I do have my OS10.5 install disk if needed.
Haroldboot from the leopard install DVD and select 'restore system from backup' from the Utilities menu at the top. follow the instructions. this will restore your whole system to the state it was in at backup time. another option is to clone the current internal to an external using Superduper or CCCloner (NOT drag and drop). then install the new drive, boot from the clone and clone it back to the new internal. this bypasses using TM altogether.

Need Help reactivating cisco valet plus after 2 yrs
I had previously installed the cisco wireless at my old apartment. I've moved since and now I'm having difficulty setting it up at my new place. The old network I created pops up but seems locked. But when I click connect using the easy set up I keep getting an error message saying that there is no internet connection. I refuse to pay to $39.99 for troublshooting support after already spending so much on the device. I tried to reset it to the factory setting but that didn't seem to work.
If anyone can help me I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!To set up a Linksys router, you need to perform four (4) steps using the computer that is registered with the ISP:
i. Verifying Internet connection
ii. Connecting devices together
iii. Checking the router’s LEDs
iv. Configuring a Linksys router for DSL Internet connection
QUICK TIPS:
The router’s power adapter needs to be plugged to your router and into an available power outlet.
If using a wired connection, the first Ethernet cable needs to be plugged to the computer’s LAN port into any of the router’s blue numbered Ethernet ports.
The second Ethernet cable should be plugged to the modem’s Internet port and the other end into the router’s yellow Internet port.
Ensure that you have no firewall enabled that may prevent the router from being detected.
Here is the link for setting up your Linksys Wireless Valet router for the first time using Cisco Connect: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=e30f926604334d538668529cb50ad174_21463.xml&pid=80&...
If you still encounter problems installing the router using the Cisco Connect program, you may configure the router manually according to the type of Internet service you have. Follow the instructions below for your specific Internet service type:

Hello Adviser /expert,
Need a help / advice & guidance whether to switch on my Career in SAP-PM from core industries after spending my 09 years of experience in Core field that to in Maintenance.
As now i m thinking to do SAP-PM certified course from authorized SAP partner in India that to Pune.
So any one can suggest authorized SAP partner in India that to Pune.
My introduction (About myself): - I had done my Diploma in Mechanical and had total 09 years of experience in Mechanical Maintenance field that to in different manufacturing company such as Steel, Auto Ancillary & Cotton plant.
Whether its right decision to change my career from Core sector to SAP-PM..??
Is there very good scope in SAP-Pm for me after 09 years of Core Maintenance field..???
Guide me
Warm Regard
RavinRavindra,
SAP PM is very niche Module, very in demand module, at the same time, being niche, getting into it and getting 1 implementation is also difficult.
your decision of joining SAP authorized training is the best option, as a certified consultant, you have more chances to get a break as fresher and you can continue working on it, else it would waste of your intellectual energy.
you just search sap.com training or email them or chat with them, they will give u the training center details,
but very less training classes are available. Try you will get lucky soon -
Hi,
I have completed my sap fico training, but i don't have any experience. I am an MBA finance having 6.6 years experience in accounts. Then can I get job in SAP field? & what type of course will do after MBA Finance? i want to do career in SAP Fico.Hi Mahesh,
as you have more than 6 yrs. experience , you can opt for sap field but the main thing is that still if your job hunt will get ended, you will be considered as ab fresher, so are you ready for those bucks you will get after you will become a sap FI/CO consultant.
Please understand one thing , if you wnats to make your career in sap field, you are most welcome, when it comes to a job for you in SAP FI/CO , you have to consider in your brain only middle or small size industry, because as far as i concern no single major company will provide you exposure to work with them (if you will get, its your good fortune). So, if you have decided to take a step ahead in sap FI/CO i will not give you negative thinking, if you are ready to negotiate in your renumeration in starting your career, then you can take a foot ahead, but look a job in middle size or small companies only, i think through this you will get any exposure more easily. -
Want to move to SAP after 6+ years of experience in a completely different field?
Hi and Good Day to all lovely people on SCN.
I have been following this site for quite a few months now, reason: I am hooked to the wonderful world of SAP.
I still haven't personally experienced it, and currently in dire need of suggestions from your expertise.
After completing my MBA in Finance & Marketing, I started working for a Multi-National Bank in its Back Office Operations.
Been 6+ years and now am planning to also explore and enhance my knowledge in IT field which would be relevant to my
current experience and help amplify the chances of improving my career.
Am confused, and unable to determine which modules should I start with to get the basics of SAP.
Hence request you all show me how to take my first steps and gradually move faster by strengthening my roots.
Request you all to show me a road map, which would help me overcome any hurdles on the way to my destination of
being certified in at least one module.
I support Foreign Exchange operations and have fair (but not in depth) technical knowledge of how two systems are linked together to get the
job done automatically. Since, basically am from Finance, I have good knowledge on different financial products. Hope this would help you to
determine which module in SAP would be well suited for me.
I request every one of you to, please help me out and guide me so that I can make most of it.
Anxiously looking forward to receive responses.
Thank you & Regards
Bilal Ahmed DHi Bilal
Honest question here: Why SAP? You appear to have zero exposure or experience, including not knowing what "SAP AG" is yet you are keen to completely change your career? How did you hear about SAP? Sorry, I do not mean to be unkind.
So far you have described your background and asked what module. You've received some recommendation on what module based on a very high level summary you have provided - back-end operations can mean a multitude of work activities.
I have also tried to provide you with an alternative approach to entering SAP. In my recommendation it is not about being hired because you do have or not have SAP skill set. It is about getting a job because you have industry experience and you just happen to now work for a company that uses SAP. Once you start working for the company you then start using SAP as an end user. You get more exposure to the system from that point of view. You may even discover that SAP does your head in (it happens to all of us at some point) and you are no longer interested.
I am not a functional person nor industry qualified so I can't say which module is right for you. But the reality is no-one in SCN is qualified to tell you what pursue. Particularly, when you seem to want to change industry as well - sounds like you are planning to go back to square one whether you intend to or not. If you were to change industry, how would you achieve that? Your approach in changing industry would probably include the same steps as changing product knowledge to SAP: research, hard work, networking, job application, etc and a bit of luck and opportunity presenting itself at the right time for you to capitalise on.
How intensely you should work will also come down your natural abilities and motivation/desire to succeed in my career path.
For education, search SCN for Learning Hub. You can obtain free access to some course material which would include introduction for you to have a look and see what it's all about and what takes your interest.
But please keep in mind (and search other posts here).. a lot of freshers seek training and certification with expectation it will lead to a well-paid job. They then come here and ask why no one hires freshers or why did they spend all this money on certification when experience is sought. You have experience, just a different flavour.

Need advice for SAP installation on External Hard disk
Hi Gurus,
I have HP laptop with configuration of 512 MB RAM and 50 GB hard disk...i recently bought 250 GB segate external hard disk for SAP installation...My doubt here is if i install SAP in external hard disk and will it work properly if i connect my laptop?
ur advice is much appreciated
Regards
DineshHi Dinesh,
I have installed SAP on external harddisk.
And it will work properly.
But i think you need to increase your RAM.
After installation, please keep in mind one thing.
You will have to attach your external harddisk before your machine starts, because your OS will be in internal harddisk, so SAP and oracel services won't be able to run without external hard-disk.
and in case you attach after system startup, please start all services.

Planning on starting career in SAP - Advice
My name is Srikanth and I am from UK. I am planning to start my career in SAP. My background is in Microsoft Tech (VB6, ASP, ASP.Net, C#, VB.Net, SQL Server, Databases, Web services and Portals) .
I have 9yrs of experience in developing legacy systems such as portals for telecoms, foreign exchange, marketing, health care etc.,
I have no prior knowledge of SAP. Reason for choosing is opportunities in SAP seems to be steady all the times.
At the moment I still have a job but I am seriously considering moving my career towards SAP.
With Microsoft Tech background , 9 Yrs of experience in developing portals , applications and no prior knowledge of SAP where do I start or what to choose in SAP ?
Please help or advice.

Edited by: Julius Bussche on Apr 8, 2009 11:09 AMUntil now what all I hear from others, not necessarily
in this forum is one should have strong functional
background to learn functional modules like
(HR, FICO, and MM etc)
What you heard is absolutely correct !!!!!!!
I have seen many people jumping into SAP without the respective domain knowledge and suffered a lot in their career.
If you are very particular and interested to concentrate on any modules you listed, what I would suggest is that search a friend who have the domain experience in that field, learn from them all basic process so that you can try in SAP on your own. Straightaway, you cannot learn modules like MM, SD, FICO if you dont have any domain experience. Sorry to say this but since I have seen many friends as like what you had expressed and later suffered a lot, thought of cautioning you.
thanks

Career in Sharepoint after a long break, pls advice
I need advice in choosing the career path. I have 5 yrs of programming experience in ASP but this was 10 years back. Had to take a break from career for personal reasons and now I plan to get back. Want to know my future prospects in Sharepoint considering
I am out of touch this long. Where and how to start. Your advices are very much appreciated.Nallapu,
There are lots of people new to SharePoint, so you're not alone! You have an ASP (.net?) background, which will probably help you.
There is lots of SharePoint training material out there (some by Microsoft, some by the community and some by training vendors like PluralSight).
It might be a steep learning curve, but it general is when you start out learning something new.
So go for it!

I need advice after purchasing a MacBook Pro in the USA for use in the UK.
Hello all out there,
I bought a 13 inch MacBook Pro in the USA last week and brought it back with me to the UK. I had been given an Apple World Adapter kit by the gentleman in the apple store, however I realised today that it isn't for the MacBook Pro and is only for iPads, iphones and ipods. This means that despite paying around $40, I am stuck. I need advice as to how to charge the laptop in the UK now? Is there an adapter for this or can I use any ordinary USA to UK adapter and stick it to the one I have from the USA?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
ZainabAFAIK, the World Adapter kit has a replacement PLUG for the power brick. What you need is just something that can go into your country's wall socket, as the power brick itself is universal and can work from 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz.
In other words, you ARE aware that the power brick has removable plugs on the AC end, right? -
Want to make a career in SAP BI
Hello,
This is Sanjay Sreedhar from Bangalore. Currently, I am working as a Senior Software Engineer on Java/J2EE and related technologies and have an overall experience of 2 and a half years.
I am not really interested to continue doing Java development and would like to move over to SAP.
Among the various modules of SAP, after gathering some information, I felt that SAP BI is the most suitable domain for me. I also have experience of 1 year in report design and development on oracle platform and I found this kind of work very interesting.
Since SAP BI primarily focuses on reporting and analysis, I strongly feel that I can have a good career in this domain.
My career expectations are as follows:
a) Long-term career with stability and growth.
b) Career in which I can feel secure and confident.
c) Compensation as per experience and industry standards.
It would be really very helpful if I could please get some advice and guidance regarding career opportunities in SAP BI.Try to explore below mentioned link..
