Need advice on how to use a samsung 470 128gb ssd in laptop win 7, please

hello,
i have a laptop with 2 hdd's running win 7 64 bit with 8gb of ram
i thought about installing 2 10k drives, but that would heat the laptop up
and drain battery life quickly
so
i found the samsung 470 ssd series to use for the os drive
and have questions that i cannot find answers to
(either from the web or samsung's website)
reading this link about 'shortstroking' the ssd

my os only uses 40gigs (and i haven't really, really gone through it to delete bloatware)
at most i see myself using 80 gigs of the 128gig model
1) should i 'not partition' the drive and let everything be as it may
or
should i create a 90 gig partition, thus 'shortstroking' it to try to gain more performance?
2) should i locate the static page file on the ssd
or
locate it on the 2nd hdd media drive?
is anyone doing this or have advice?

first of all thanks a ton for the calibration info
that was excellent!
it's an hp laptop with a removable optical drive of which
i installed a 2nd hdd for media
i just found the corsair ssd you mentioned at newegg
and 57% of the reviews are terrible
whereas 100% of the reviews for the samsung are 5 eggs
(they say the samsung isn't the fastest but it is the most sturdiest)
it has a sataII interface
i agree with you about not defragging ssd's
thanks for the answer about not partitioning and locating the pagefile...
my desktop at home has 2 sata3 ports...
after all this research i think i might get the 128 gb ssd for my desktop
which leads me to another question about the laptop:
my os drive is 40gb
i don't see it getting much bigger than that
in terms of installing programs
do you think i could 'get away with' installing a 64gb ssd in the laptop
or will it fill up or run slow because of the limited headroom?
i think it is better to go with a highly stable ssd than a tempermental faster ssd

Reset ( No Data will be Lost )

New 256GB Samsung 470 Series SSD Heading My Way

Yesterday, I purchased the above-referenced SSD on Amazon. I am aware that it is a SATA II drive, but its consistent performance is what led to my purchase of the drive.
I believe I have done adequate research on the subject, but I am looking from some confirmation on the following two statements:
1. Although TRIM support is not enabled in Lion for non-OEM SSDs, the Samsung 470 Series SSDs have built-in TRIM support that operates independently of the OS. Therefore, I don't need to use a program like TRIM Enabler.
2. The Samsung 470 Series has built-in garbage collection.
Please let me know if both of the above statements accurate, and if there is anything else I will need to know or do (aside from installing the actual SSD).

I have learned a little bit more over the weekend.
It appears I'll need to enable TRIM support manually. I have read that some people enable it briefly, then disable it. I don't really understand why, however. Nobody seems to have any issues after they have enabled TRIM support.
So, the question is, should I leave TRIM support enabled?

Newbie needs advice on how to approach a new project using iMovie/Cubase

Hi all.
As you have probably guessed it's a music to picture problem, never done it before so I need some advice. I'm doing a guitar tuition DVD so there will be some playing and some speech. I can combine both real time via the mixing desk and feed it straight to the camera's mike input. This seems to be the least flexible and most low tech approach. I would prefer to fiddle about in Cubase to get the audio right before fixing it to the video. I am unsure how to use iMovie and Cubase in a combined way to produce what I'm after. Cubase will handle video and iMovie will handle sound but which way round do I do it? I'm at a loss as even what questions to ask! At the moment I'm setting iMovie to record from the camera, setting Cubase to record the audio and clapping in time with the count in to act as a sync. Once I have my audio file I can import the vid into Cubase or import the audio into iMovie. Am I missing something here or is this the right way to do it? ( I might sound vaguely clever but don't rely on it in your answers ! I'm a guitarist after all....)

musicians are used to do everything simultanously (=band), film/video is doing each thing after the other ;-):
I would
* record the video to a camcorder, incl. guitar/music but NO voice-over…
* import that into iM…
* edit all together
* THEN use this as a "click track" for any audio processing…, mainly adding the narration
* re-import the final audio track back to iM, create videoDVD, getting rich by selling zillions of them....
advantage: you concentrate on playing guitar OR telling the tricks&clues...
besides: whatfor you need Cubase in such a project...? or is it "Guitar IN Cubase"?

There are a couple of methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Have a look at the article linked below. Method one is to have two Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries. Method two is to set your preferences so each iPod is updated with only certain playlists within one library. I am trying to develop an ADF mobile App. I am new to ADF mobile. I went through some of the tutorials but still need some clarification on how to use SQLite inside the application. Can i get a Data control out of it? Or is it just to read and write data .
that brings me to the other question, Is the 'demo.db' i.e the db file which represents the Database, supposed to be packaged as a resource with the application?
Pls give me some info abt this.. If you can provide me links with this information, it would be of great help.

You can expose a java class containing methods (select, update, ...) as a Data Control.
Yes, you need to add your .db as a resource.

I am fairly new to web design. I have studied it for two semesters in college, but I have forgotten many techniques since. However, I know enough to follow any advice given.
What I am seeking is some advice on how to break down my layout. Particularly, I need help deciding how to slice the layout and organize the divs.
I have a good idea how to slice and manage the header and footer; however, I am puzzled on how I should structure the menu on the right. See the attachment, how the menu drives up from the body content, past the secondary navigation, and into the main image?
I need help in the middle area there.

Need an example how to use SCAN_Start with a callback function

I would appreciate if someone helps me with a working example of how to use SCAN_Start with a callback function. I need just a basic functionality: to specify a channel list (with gains probably), to start a data acquisition task and to receive data buffers utilizing a callback function. t this time whatever I was trying to do caused computer hangups, though it is supposed to be one of the most regular tasks to perform.

Attached is an example project which uses a callback function to begin analog acquisition (AI) by calling SCAN_Start. This project acquires from the first 2 channels on your DAQ device. Make sure to modify the device number in the code to match the number of your card.

Need advice on how to store and retrieve mathematical symbols - Oracle8i

I am a student developing a web database for a P3 project and am having trouble inserting non-standard text particularly mathematical sybols (intergrals and the like) or Gifs/Jpegs. Could anybody give me some advice on how this should be done? I am using PHP, Oracle8i and Solaris.

On the Import Photos Screen, pick "Copy photos as Digital Negative(DNG) and add to catalog" from File Handling drop-down at top of screen.
If your photos are organised as:
Photos - Camera 1 ...
- Camera 2 ...
then Lightroom will reflect that folder view in its Folders panel. Also, when converting to DNG you get to choose destination folder (answers part of your question 2) and multiple organisation choices including "Organize by Original Folder"

2. I want the Lightoom files and the image files....
Create your catalog on that drive. Move your images to that drive before importing them, and when converting to DNG on import, choose a folder on that drive as destination on import screen.

No. RAID 1 is a simple mirror of 1 drive on another; so if you delete a file on drive, it is also deleted from both drives. Likewise, if a file is corrupted on one drive it will also be corrupted on the mirror. RAID 1 is good as a safeguard against single-drive failure; your data will be available from the remaining drive, but it is not a safeguard against user error or file corruption.
