Need advice on P7N Diamond boards

I have posted in these forums about my problems with the P7N Diamond boards.  My 3rd one just died.  It seems to have in the last 2 cases anyway, been a memory problem.  The first 2, I used Mushkin 1067 memory, 2 x 2, which I have found on your boards is an overclocked 800.  I ran it at a 900 or thereabouts speed, because the computer would not boot on higher settings.  That board kept freezing, and in an attempt to fix that, I bought Crucial memory which is a true 1067 at 7-7-7-18.  When I was experimenting with fixing the 2nd board, and had the Mushkin in, the board started smoking at the 3rd memory slot, and that is why I sent it in for an RMA.
Last week, I received the RMA.  I tried the Crucial memory in it.  What happened then is chronicled on these boards.  They had me disable Spread Spectrum, set the NB voltage to 1.30 and set the speed to 666(7) with the timing 5-5-5-18.  These settings caused crashes on booting.  Then I called Crucial, who told me to take the timings out and set the FSB and the memory clock to a ratio of 5:4.  which had to be done by setting the clock speeds on manual.  Then I still had crashes on booting, but not quite so fast.  Also the board never detected the 2nd stick of memory in any but the first slot.  I then tried it with one stick in all of the slots.  It would not even post except with the first slot.  I tried to run memtest86 on it but at that time it stopped posting at all and I am now sending it for my 3rd RMA (first one was from NewEgg at the very beginning.)
So... I will now be on my 4th board.  The question I have is, what should I do about the memory to enhance my chances of this one actually working?  Should I buy new memory and if so, what?  What settings should I put in the BIOS initially?  The forums seem to like OCZ Reaper, but when I look at the specs, they are also overclocked 800, which is also bad according to the forums.  My patience with this is completely at an end (and way tired of reinstalling the CPU fan and all those little motherboard screws.)

CPU stepping is basically a way to tell what manufacturing improvement has been incorporated to a specific CPU model, i.e. E8400 (C0), E8400 (E0). The E8400 (C0) is supported with bios v1.0. The E8400 (E0) is not. It needs bios v1.2. The 'stepping' can be found using CPU-Z utility. If you don't have it, here is the link: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
I wouldn't make the 'SLI' designation on the OCZ's that important (or the MoBo's 'SLI' designation), unless your running two GPU cards in SLI mode?
The OCZ Reapers you talk about, aren't OC'd until you OC them. They are 800's with manufacturer permission 'to OC' with increased V's., different timings, & speed. Basically, they were factory tested under a controlled environment to operate at 1066 yada yada (OC'd).
As far as the bios goes, set 'Optimized Defaults', & bios will probably set the modules correctly without having to mess around.
The truth be known, the performance gains between 800 & 1066 isn't all that massive. Only about 2 to 4 FPS I believe. If your E8400 is an E0 stepping, & the board has bios v1.0, it needs to be updated to v1.2 before it can be expected to perform correctly.

  • P7N Diamond board won't post

    I have a P7N Diamond board.  About 3 weeks ago, I had more and more trouble with the computer.  I thought it was a memory problem, because it failed Memtest.  I initially had Mushkin memory and bought Crucial, specifically compatible with the board.  It worked briefly but then failed to boot.  I tried the Mushkin memory again and had some smoke, the memory got hot, and after that the board failed to post.  Thinking it was a problem with the motherboard, I sent it in and received an RMA today.
    I set up the new board with the Crucial memory that I had.  I am fairly certain it is wired correctly, but the system fails to post, though it does turn on with all the fans.  Where should I go from here?  I have a Intel Core 2 Duo processor, E8400 processor, Zalman fan, compatible Crucial 2 x 2 memory.

    Please provide links to the datasheets or manufacturer's product sites for your memory modules.
    For futher testing:
    Please use one memory stick only (!) and make sure it is not running faster the DDR2-800.  The voltage should not exceed 1.95V for now and Spread Spectrum should be disabled.

    Such standards do not exist.  DDR2-1000 or DDR2-1066 at that voltage level is an overclocking/overvoltaged rating.  Such settings are not necessarely stable.

  • New Need Sink needed for MSI P7N Diamond nForce 780i SLi (Socket 775)

    Hi Guys,
    I've been having a problem with my machine where it will be working away as and then suddenly restart. I haven't been able to pin point the problem as it can happen regardless of applications or load thats on the machine. I've also run a couple of app's to check the RAM and its fine. The only thing I've been noticing is that the 4 cores of my Q6600 seem to be running a bit hot. On average on Idle there running between 45-55oc. Does this seem normal? I'm thinking that the cpu might be over heating when I'm running apps. I've seen one of the cores up around 68oc when under a bit of load. I'm using the stock heat sink at the moment and would like to cool things down it see if that helps. Can anyone recommend something suitable for my motherbroad.

    My Q6600 (also G0/SLACR but don't know what you mean by "Pro") is OC'd to 3.4GHz and has had no problems running stable.  Highest temps during OCCT/Linpack and LinX/Linpack peak at 80C 1st/2nd cores - 76 C 3rd/4th cores.  Other tests (e.g. Prime95 small FFTs) run much cooler.  I've run 2hr+ linpack tests with no errors, so I don't think you need to worry about your temps yet.
    However, may I suggest that you check into is your power supply, in particular the modular connections.  I had the ToughPower 750W Modular before upgrading to PCP&C.  I noticed that the ToughPower's modular connections had a tendency to be just a tad loose.  They wouldn't dislodge but they had a little bit of play.  I could jiggle them ever so slightly while they were connected.  As a result, the CPU power cable (8-pin/4-pin) would cause a restart upon the slightest disturbance or sensation.  I've since discovered that modular connectors also affect the efficiency, power noise levels, and overall performance of a PSU.  All in all, I plan to avoid modular connectors entirely going forward.  Many newer cases have excellent cable management features and even old-style cases can be cleaned up with a little planning and effort.  So the modular cabling advantages don't offset the severe disadvantages.  Even if your problem isn't due to the PSU, it's something I'd recommend considering replacing.

  • Need advice for making a board layout in Ultiboard easy to assemble/troubleshoot

    I was wondering if anyone has a good method to go from a Multisim schematic to an Ultiboard layout, keeping specific legs of the circuit separated geographically for assembly and troubleshooting purposes.  I have a circuit with a few analog filters that are tuned to different frequencies, so they have identical components, just specced to different values.  This project is slated for only short run purposes, and will be assembled by hand (the parts are mostly through-hole).
    It would be really convenient to be able to automatically make each leg identical for troubleshooting and assembly.  I know that I could slowly work it out myself with a schematic and the ratsnest, but I was hoping for a quicker way, and I see a whole lot of functionality in Ultiboard that I don't know how to use yet.
    The method I've been using so far has been pretty rough.  With nearly 250 components, I've been saving the schematics multiple times with each subsequent leg added, and exporting the netlist to Ultiboard one at a time with previous components locked into place.  It's a painful process, but it works.

    You can use the group replica place and the copy route options to do exactly what your asking.  Since it seems your new to this package, it will most likely take the same time to get to the finish line if you do it manually or the method I mentioned.

  • P7N Diamond, Bios P07, QX9650, 8GB PC-8500 problem

    Read through main fo the topics in this forum, and tried to identify similar problems, but seem not to be successful.
    P7N Diamond board, with the nwest beta P07 bios.
    QX9650 quad chip,
    and patriot PC2-8500 2GB memory sticks.
    2x EVGA 88800GTS-512 (G92) video cards.
    So first I flashed the new bios, with only 2 memory sticks in 0, 2 slot, I get  post with just fail safe settings, and SLI ready memory enable, which the vendor claims these stikcs can do.
    I boot, but the CPU bounces around between 6x and 8x.
    If I add 2 more memory sticks to come to 8GB total, I crash during boot in Vista 64.
    So remove 2 sticks again, and try to play with bios settings to get anything stable, but... nothing.
    Any ideas, help.

    It's normal for your speeds to fluctuate.  It is speedstep(EIST) in action.  It lowers your cpu speed to save power when it isn't doing anything or a light load.  You can disable it in your BIOS if you want and it should run full speed at all times.
    Can you boot into Vista with 1 video card and be stable?
    What power supply are you using?  It sounds like you are lacking enough power to run both those cards.  Make and Model number for PSU.
    You may also need to manually setup your memory timings.  DDR2 memory has a top limit and it is PC2-6400.  Anything over that limit is overclocking and may need adjusting to get them to run.
    Make sure you only have keyboard, mouse, and monitor plugged for testing to help eliminate other issues.
    Can you make a signature with all your computer components listed similar to the one I have below.  it will help us help you.  It's sometimes hard to help when you don't have enough information.

  • P7N Diamond / MS-7510 -- Flashed my BIOS & now S.O.L.?

    Long, excruciating story put short: I bought an MSI MS-7510 motherboard which is OEM for an Acer Aspire G7700 machine. It's based on the retail MSI P7N Diamond board, but a few minor differences. Anyway, the BIOS that came with it was an Acer BIOS, as reported by the BIOS itself, but an MSI Live Update utility reported that the BIOS in there was the 1.4 (an MSI P7N Diamond BIOS). Not knowing which was actually in there, I tried to install a more current Acer BIOS for that board. The Acer flash utility informed me that my board ID was incorrect, so I went on to flash using the MSI P7N Diamond BIOS, v1.4. After successfully flashing via DOS, the computer does not post, it doesn't do anything when I start it. The hard drives, MB, CD-ROMs, PSU, and case fans all get power, but my monitor gets no feed from the video card, nothing. It seems to me that I put the wrong BIOS in there. Am I S.O.L.? Is there any way to flash the BIOS at this point? I'm guessing I can't do anything via USB stick or CD-ROM, as without a proper BIOS, the computer doesn't know what to look for, etc. Is there a hard modification I can do for this board? Jumper pins to reset the BIOS? Anything?    I'm stuck here and could really use help!

  • Can't boot from USB on P7N Diamond

    I have BIOS Ver. 1.3 installed on my P7N Diamond board. I used the flashing utility from MSI to install it. Now, to install Ver 1.4, I am using the Forum Flasher. My board will not recognize the USB drive in the F11 Boot Menu or in the BIOS boot selection option. It does show up as USB storage after the memory check along with a USB mouse.I made sure that all USB options in the BIOS were set. I let the Forum Flasher fix my drives to make sure that was done right. The last stick I tried was brand new, never used.
    I am running RAID 0+1 on SATA 1 thu 4, SATA 5 + 6 are DVD drives, nothing on the 2 eSATA ports.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    The only time the USB storage appears is during POST. In the BIOS the 4 hard drives used for the RAID are listed, the 2 DVD drives are listed, but no USB storage. In the F11 boot selection it offers the 1st floppy, NVRAID and the 2 DVD drives. The same are offered the boot sequence section of the BIOS options.

  • P7N Diamond v1.0

    Hi all, It's been a while I'm trying to find out what is happening here, I have:
    P7N Diamond
    Q9650 @3.0GHz
    Corsair CM2X2048-6400C5 (2Gbx2)
    MSI 8800GTS x 2
    The first time I assembly the computer I got stacked at the middle of POST, but it was a BIOS issue, the BIOS version 1.0 do not support Q9650, so I Upgraded it to the 1.4 version and the computer started.
    But I still have an issue. Some times when I shut down the computer, and then start up again, the computer just does not start.
    If I do a random number of “Shut Down/Start Up” tries, the computer starts and works ok. It generally won't take more than 4 tries.
    There is a detail about this issue, when the computer do not start, the light of HDD keeps on but no Power light if up
    I already tried:
    Using one Video Card (I tried 3 different video cards)
    Changing memory (2 different brands, Corsair and Supertalent)
    Changing Power supply
    If anyone can help I’ll be very greatfull

    From what i have observed from my system before clearing CMOS properly,the other best work around is to give the system a few seconds after the mains is switched on before powering the system. It seems the problem only occurs from a cold start so by allowing current to flow through the board for a few seconds and then starting it will make it boot.
    If the CMOS clearing doesnt work for you for some reason this fix will work always,give around 3 to 4 seconds time before hitting the power button.You can do trial and error method to get the exact timing
    My P7N Diamond boots perfectly with this method.

    Will agree it seems to be a very common issue now, had the exact problem on my P7N Diamond as well. You can try the new Beta 1.51 bios maybe they have addressed this issue or try what adihot2008 has mentioned as I found that worked whilst I had it.

  • P7n Diamond + Q6600 = Reboots over and over

    I have a P7n diamond that has been in my system paired with E6850 for a while now and been running no problem.  Well I picked up a Q6600 and put it in and now it reboots everytime when it starts to go into windows.  No errors or anything.. Just poof and reboot..  Will sit in the bios all day long and temp in bios is 21 to 23 celcius.  Anyone have any suggestions for me.  I have put all the bios settings on Auto just trying to get the machine to load windows.  does the same thing with Windows Vista and Windows 7.  Startup screen comes up and churns and right when screen is supposed to switch to windows it reboots...  Thanks for all suggestions...

    Ok I can't stand this beating me.. I'm back with the q6600 and rebooting. no changes helps.  has there been cases where a cpu just won't work with a motherboard??  I put the e6850 back in and boots fines.  I put the q6600 in other system boots fine.  just will not boot on my p7n diamond board.  I've flashed to latest beta 1.3 bios.  I've reset cmos..  i've done everything i know to do and no luck....

  • P7N Diamond voltages

    After watching some screenshots from ppl with same board showing CPUID Hardware monitor i have noticed that the VIN5 and VIN6 is higher than mine, and i would like to know if anyone of you know what it is for?=)
    VIN5 is at 0.10-0.26V and VIN6 is at 0.17-0.38V
    I am thinking that the motherboard does not get what it wants, another thing i have noticed is that the I12V thing in bios is not showing close to 12V at all, its alot lower.
    I have no idea if it really matters but i still have alot problem with this computer and i dont want to buy anymore

    ok, for me it is not that i want to have the real voltages, i am just curious what you that have a working P7N Diamond board have, if you use the CPUID Hardware Monitor, maybe not accurate but i guess its not more accurate for you than it is for me etc, maybe just a waste of time=)
    I have contacted both msi and gigabyte and waiting for their answer, have nothing better to do than trying to figure out things on my own =)
    Probably wont get anywhere until tuesday or wednesday, it is just so frustrating when i cant solve my problems like sound crackling, monitor goes blank and graphic corruption on
    DXVA(hardware accelerated) videos.
    Could be that the motherboard/PSU does not supply enough power to the graphic card, could also be a bad driver but then all drivers are bad that i have tested,
    seem to give me less crackling with a slower graphic card.
    Got a new bios from msi, but then vista activation failed cause of new hardware, and it did not help me in anyway so flashed back to original.
    Well i can always help others while waiting, learn alot of all this troubleshooting reading =)

  • Users running the P7N Diamond and QX9650 please weigh in. I need help...

    OK, I'll start from the beginning.  I had an EVGA 780i mobo, which ran a Q6600 at 3ghz quite easily.  Well, I decided that I had money to burn so I ordered a QX9650.  It would not work on the EVGA, the cpu voltage and cpu fsb voltage would not adjust no matter what I tried.  So, I popped the cpu into my kids rig, which has a DFI X38 mb and the cpu worked perfectly, voltages adjusted, multiplier adjusted, etc.  During the RMA process to EVGA, I got an MSI P7N Diamond to run SLI with.  Stuck the cpu in it and away I went into Vista 64, all happy.  I had to bump the memory voltage up to 1.95 volts, but that was it.  I then decided to raise the multi from 9 to 10.  I set it, warm booted and tested it in Vista.  100% stable.  2 days later, I attempted to turn my computer on.  No post.  I had to power off/on very quickly to get it to post, at which point I got an error message that the cpu vid had failed or there was a mismatch with the cpu to fsb ratio, hit F1 to enter setup or F2 to load defaults.  I e-mailed MSI and received beta P05 and it was just downhill from there.  I couldn't cold boot at all, stock settings, OC settings, voltages adjusted, it didn't matter.  So back to the shipping bios.  I got a new beta this morning, dated 2/18, and it was the exact same. 
    Issues with both beta's:
    1.  Cannot cold boot.
    2.  Logitech G15 acts erratically prior to entering Vista.
    Things I have tried:
    1.  Raising Vcore.
    2.  Raising NB/SB voltages.
    2.  Raising FSB Terminator voltage.
    Nothing helps.  MSI simply told me not to OC and run at stock and that there was no problem.  Is there anyone else out there that has this cpu and mb?  If so, can you post your experience with it and let me know if there is something I am doing wrong or could try?

    End User 02/19/2008 No change. I cannot even cold-boot at stock settings with this. Also, it still kills my Logitech G15 keyboard randomly. i have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to power up, and that is only after I boot into Vista. It seems odd that it is only on a cold boot that I have issues and not on warm boots. I am willing to try anything you got at this point!

I am not asking you for advice on hot to OC it, I am asking you if you know of the issue and are looking into it to try and correct it. If you do not think there is an issue and are not going to investigate it, then I will be very disappointed. 
    MSI Tech. 02/19/2008 If there is no problem with standard bios and no OC then you can refer to other website/forum for OC suggestions or settings. MSI does not provide these setting/suggestions since it can cause damage to the components. 
    End User 02/19/2008 Also, I am unable to use the Dual Core center, as I am running Vista 64. It does not load properly when using this OS.

But, why would I have paid such a high premium to get a QX9650, that has an unlocked multiplier, if I cannot use it? Is this strictly an issue with the newer 45nm Intel processors or is it something else? If not being able to use my cpu's unlocked multiplier is "ok", then I may return the board for a refund.

    End User 02/18/2008 I was way too quick to say everything is OK. I now have cold boot issues aplenty. 9 times out of 10 it will not post on a cold boot, but will warm boot. I have to power off then on real quickly to get it to post at stock speeds. Also, my Logitech G15 started to act erratic with the P05 beta. I am back on the shipping bios until I hear from you. 
    End User 02/18/2008 Thanks you for the beta. I flashed to it, cleared the cmos and set everything back up and now I have a new problem. Even though I have disabled the EIST function in the bios, it still seems to be on. i am using cpu-z version 1.44.1 to monitor the multiplier and it randomly shifts between whatever I set it to and 6. It is even doing it when the system is loaded, ie playing games. Please, help!

    End User 02/18/2008 Everything is stable 100%. But, on my QX9650, I set the multiplier to 10X to run at 10x333=3.33ghz. It was fine until this morning. I turned the computer on and it would not post. I powered down and repowered it up and it siad the cpu vid had failed or errored, hit F1 to enter setup or F2 to load defaults. I entered setup and the multiplier was set back to 9x. I left it there and am ok now. Is there a beta bios that helps out operations with the newest Intel 45nm processors, such as the QX9650?
    I have absolutely no issues in Vista itself, it is 100% stable.  It is only on a cold boot that I have serious issues.  And yes, I got 3 in a row, went to work for a few hours, then came home and bam!  No cold boot.  Also, I don't know how comfortable I am raising the vcore that much, as 1.21-1.25 is the normal operating range.  1.3625 is aweful high.  Now, with the 65nm quads, that is more in the range of what would be needed, but no way should it be necessary to pushh this QX9650 to a meeger 3.33ghz.  As far as temps go, I have the processor watercooled, so no worries there.  I am away from home now until Saturday morning, so I can't test anything until the weekend.

  • Problems w/ on-board NVidia RAID + PCI RAID on P7N Diamond

    Here's the setup and issue. 
    I'm booting off of the on-board NVidia RAID on my P7N Diamond.  It's RAID5 w/ 4 WD 640GB drives.  Works fine.
    I've recently pulled a NetCell SyncRAID SR5000 PCI RAID card (runs an adapted RAID3) from an old system where it worked fine and was NOT the boot drive...just storage.  Plugged it in the one and only PCI slot on my P7N Diamond.  Once it's in, the system will no longer boot.
    When the PCI RAID card is not installed, the mobo's BIOS boot menu shows "NVIDIA RAID5 1".  As soon as I install the PCI RAID card, the NVidia RAID disappears (no longer an option at all) and is replaced by "IDE:Revolution".  At that point the system cannot find any bootable source and fails.
    I also get an error message "Not Enough Space to Copy PCI Option ROM".
    Unfortunately, MSI's tech support is passing the buck on this one.  They're saying:
    Then sound like the card and the board sata controller are not compatible. If the card is connected it disable the onboard SATA controller. Once the card install the port is enable again. please check with the card manufacture. thanks
    I really find this annoying as the card works just fine in other systems.  It's having an issue WITH THIS MOTHERBOARD, but they tell me to go to the card manufacturer.  The real problem is NetCell went out of business a few years ago, so they're not available to go to.
    So, the quick and dirty is the manufacture of the only motherboard I've had a problem with concerning this card won't help, and the card manufacture cannot be reached.  I'm hoping someone here may come up with a workaround.
    I'm trying to consolidate down to 1 computer, and I specifically purchased a case and power supply with this RAID migration in mind.  I'm gunna be PISSED if I can't use a RAID array I spent close to a grand for (a couple years ago)!

    MSI continues to blame the chipset or PCI card for the incompatibility (not the motherboard), saying there's nothing they can do.
    Does ANYONE have an idea other than setting aside my RAID array?

  • P7N Diamond, need help

    Hello, i have built a new machine and now after a few days i think my graphic card died. Computer starts with gpu fan at 100% but thats about it, screen is blank.
    Havent tried to switch graphic card yet, gonna buy a cheap one tomorrow, i suspect the psu but it should be ok, hmm =)
    Anyway my system, i hope any of you can help me out.

    It should be able to handle 41A on +12v1 and +12v2 together and max 530W (52.5A) on all 12V at once.
    I am not very good at explaining in english but the psu should be high quality and was best rated by a swedish oc site.
    Before i bought this i read alot on different sites to find out if i needed 26A on one rail or not and some said it was needed and some said
    it works great with just a high quality psu.
    I have also tried to remove everything except the graphic card, cpu, memory, and tried it with only 1 stick.

    I solved it, thanks for the replies. Dont know what was causing it, i removed the motherboard from the case and it worked.
    But there are still some issues, but i dont know what =) I have tried to overlock also but it isnt going very well, i dont know why its failing if it is the memory or if i dont give enough voltage... i made it boot at 4 ghz and the stress test with Orthos failed when memory was involved 8(
    The thing i dont get is if i choose manual and set the ram memory at 800 mhz, does it stay there when i pick a higher fsb or does it secretly overclock =)
    Also everytime i boot up vista 64, just before the login screen appears, when things work it fades nice to the login screen but when something is wrong it looks like a sick sack or how its spelled, pattern in black before the screen appears, even if i dont overclock at all.
    Does any of you know what voltages that i should stick with? I would like to have the whole bios at manual but i dont know what most of the commands do, like the terminator, gtl settings =)

  • MSI P7N Diamond - New PC Build - Need Help Posting

    I just finished connecting my P7N Diamond out of the case and powered on my new build for the first time and saw BIOS version, HDD information, and the bad checksum message on the screen. I also saw the "Press DEL to enter BIOS" and the "F2 To Continue" messages.
    Pressing the DEL key on the keyboard resulted in nothing happening at all. I soon realized that the keyboard wasn't responding and I had no num lock light at all after pressing the Num Lock key multiple times. I started with a generic, USB keyboard and then swapped keyboards to an older, still working one I had with a PS/2 connector.
    Still no keyboard lights but magically it entered BIOS after I plugged it in the PS/2 socket and immediately asked if I wanted to exit BIOS  without saving. Pressing the "Y" key did nothing. Pressing <ESC> did nothing. The keyboard seemed frozen.
    I pressed the RESET button on the motherboard and this caused a re-boot but now with a black screen (no messages at all). I powered it down, removed the power cords and then pressed the "clear CMOS" button. Re-connected the power cords and powered it on; but still a black screen. Powered it down, removed the power cords and removed the battery for 1 minute (I even pressed the clear CMOS button again). Re-connected the power cords, powered it up and still have a black screen.
    I know this is the place where all the experts hang out, so any help will be appreciated.

    Just an update...
    New build is working very well at this point.
    I've set the voltage in BIOS to 2.1 for the memory and installed Vista Ultimate, updated it via Windows Update site, applied the memory patch. I've discovered that I have a bad stick of memory as no matter what slot I place this one stick of memory in, the PC fails to post, so I'm running with 3x1GB sticks. I've ordered new memory that should be here today; Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX.
    The only problem I've encountered thus far is with one of my NVIDIA RAID arrays in "Degraded" status (mirror broken). This happened after I had applied the latest MS patches and a re-boot. I didn't suspect a HDD failure because the drives are new and the status of each drive was displaying as HEALTHY. I did my research on this site and discovered the solution which was to delete one of the two drives (I chose the one with the least amount of data) from the array and then added it back into the same array. The re-build took about 2 hours (they are 400GB Segate drives) and now it's working as advertised. I suspect a software problem caused this as one of the two drives was showing that it had less data (used) than the other drive.
    My next steps are to install the new memory, test it with memtest86+ and then begin the OC ritual.

    Good Afternoon. I have searched everywhere for information regarding the issues I’m having and haven’t found anything, so I though id ask here. About a year ago I built two computers using the exact same parts (one for me and the other for a friend of mine). My friends build has been running perfect since day one, with no issues or errors. Mine however, has been a problem since I turned it on. I don’t want to post a confusing wall of text, but want to give as many details as possible, so here goes.
    Problems
    1)   Will not run with optimised settings since first install - Just restarts before starting windows. (Only boots ok when FSB is set to 1333)
    2)   Looping Restarts – After powering on it will restart itself between 3-6 times after boot screen, then successfully boots onto windows ok.
    3)   Crashing to Desktop/BSOD’s – Mainly runs ok when on desktop/applications/internet. Games are the issue. (Fixed some errors by replacing CMOS Battery. Main BSOD error “Hardware Error – Please contact your manufacturer”
    Previous Tests Done
    1) Cleared BIOS settings
    2) Stripped it down to barebone (outside case), and removed everything It didn’t need to run.
    3) Tried changing RAM - Dual/Single Channel – One stick at a time.
    4) Memtest, Futuremark, Prime95, GPU-Z, CPU-Z and others.
    *Currently have processor on RMA as it died (Have signal to monitor from Graphics Card, but no boot, so testing on the fly is impossible*

    As mentioned earlier, my Q6600 is in the process of RMA so can’t really do any testing with Bios or anything else. Another thing… When on the phone to Intel’s Technicians. They said that due to the board only having 1.8v DIMM’s, they said because my RAM was 2.1v, it is those that are causing all my issues. In relation to the RAM spec on the listed computer configuration, could anyone confirm that? As I asked Corsair before the build and they said it would be fine.
    I hope I’ve given all the required details, needed for a conclusion to my problems or even a guess.

    Mh, did you mistype something, or are you talking about overclocking when you mention "optimised settings"?  I mean:  FSB 1333 is already higher than the native FSB Speed of a Q6600 (=266 MHz or 1066 MT/s effectively).  Can you explain again what you mean?  Because if you really overclocked the FSB/CPU to 333 MHz FSB CLock Speed (and higher) all your problems may simply be the symptoms of non-stable overclocking settings (which is nothing unusual).

    Yes and no.  The native speed of your modules is DDR2-800 @1.8V +/- 0.1V (JEDEC Standard) which means that such a setting is compliant with the industry specifications for DDR2 Memory and should pose no stability risk to the system (given that none of the modules are faulty).
    DDR2-1066 on the other hand is an OC rating that requires you to raise the voltage to 2.1V and thereby above industry specifications.  Stability problems @DDR2-1066//2.1V are not unusual.  So in that perspective, the stuff the Intel Technicians pointed out to you is absolutely correct.
