Need advice on what do with new motherboard :(

Back in January I ordered a P67-GD53 MSI motherboard from this company - www.ncix.com
I installed the motherboard and drivers, things were working fine, until I noticed windows 7 would not boot up
sometimes, It would hang at the welcome screen. The problem kept getting worse, until I could not boot up at all.
i took my tower into a company called "Microbytes" which did a diagnosis. They said the "hard drive controller" on the motherboard was defective.
Should I RMA the store I bought the motherboard from, or directly from MSI ??
AND I realize the motherboard I bought is defective - the SATA 3Gbs port will be replaced by Intel eventually. If I RMA this motherboard now,
does that mean I'll just end up getting a new defective motherboard ??
Thanks for the advice....this is my first MSI motherboard, and it will be my last. I've never had these issues with Evga or Asus. :(

Keep such useless comments to yourself. EVGA and ASUS have RMA departmens, too. Also, how can you be sure that the board wasn't damaged during handling/shipping or because of electrical problems (statical surge)?

"Not boot up at all" means what? Where did the system hang? Any error messages?

Need advice on avoiding problems with new MacPro

As a long time Windows user I'm now staring into the abyss with a new MacPro quad.
It was ordered without a monitor - arrived yesterday and I purchased a new Samsung 226BW - hooked everything up and it worked right on the first try.
My question is, are there any common mistakes that I might fall into with a new machine?
What to watch out for?

For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.0 is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation. TechTool Pro 4.5.2 is Intel Mac compatible; Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided. The current version, 1.5.1, is Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.
OS X automatically defrags files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
6. Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware - 3.0 is a Universal Binary)
7. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
2. Toast
3. Impression
4. arRSync
Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.

Need help re-synching iPods with new computer and getting iTunes to...

Need help re-synching iPods with new computer and getting iTunes to recognize our iPods (it doesn't even recognize them when they're plugged in).
Hubby wiped my harddrive for me, so now I need to get everything back in proper places. I'm using windows XP and installed iTunes once again (I believe it's version 8). I also installed all of my iTunes songs. Now I need to know where to go from here. We have 3 iPods and I need to get them all synched once again. I know how to create different libraries for each of us, but I can't figure out how to get our songs back into our iTunes libraries. When I open iTunes and plug in an iPod, iTunes doesn't even show that an iPod is plugged in.
What do I do now to get each of our iPods synched with our own libraries?

Okay, now how do I synch all of our ipods with our individual libraries (I don't want all of my kids' songs and vice versa)? We each have hundreds of songs on our ipods that we don't want to lose.

I need lots of USB ports with New Mac Pro, now what?

because I'm in the audio business I needs lot of USB ports with my Mac Pro. On my current 2008 machine, that's not really an issue, with 5 ports on teh MP itself and I installed some USB hubs over PCIe that give me a total of 13 port. I'm not really sure what is the best way to get that amount on the new MP.
Oh, and I really like the stability of my current set up. Before I went with an external USB Hub that always gave me headaches with ports not being recognized.

The only two things I found so far are:
a/ going back to the external USB hubs, which I find very frustrating to work with, because instable with connection and I would need to add some interface to go from USB to TB (which are also rather expensive at the moment)
b/ use some external PCIe enclosures that are really expensive.
So I havent really found the right solution for my situation. Which makes me hesitant to migrate to new MP at the moment.

Start-up stumbles with new motherboard, 10.5.5

The motherboard of my MacBook Pro recently died. It came back with a new motherboard and loaded with 10.5.5. Since then, the machine has balked on start-up. Sometimes, I get the tones, then a gray screen, then a freeze. On other occasions, it tries to start, gives up, goes black, and tries it again. It happens over and over. The machine never gets beyond a the apple screen. Eventually, I have to drop the battery to make the cycling stop. And then, there are those times when I get the black "curtain" dropping and a message in several languages that I have to restart. No kidding. I have managed to get it started on several occasions by blowing the P-RAM and cursing a lot. Once It is going, I use Onyx to try and keep it going.

Without question I would return the computer to Apple for re-repair.
There could be another bad component, a bad connection or cable. You should not spend any time diagnosing what is most likely a hardware problem that you cannot easily fix anyway and doing so might void the warranty.
Panics are usually caused by bad RAM.
You might unplug and replug your RAM module(s) - the socket may be dirty - but even there be very careful. Beyond the RAM, I don't think there is much for you do to.

Satellite X200-20S runs slower with new motherboard

I wonder if anybody can help - under warranty I have just had a replacement motherboard. (Before the replacement the computer switched off within ten seconds of startup). Since replacement the computer is runnning at about 90% of the speed than while it was working pre-replacement. I have spoken with the Toshiba support who claim that without "hard facts" about the speed there is nothing they can do (ie. they won't book it back in). In some ways this is fair, however it simply is not as good as before and various tests I have done (which they claim to be subjective) consistently show that the computer is slower.
Toshiba support really like the Windows Experience Index (WEI) which I currently have as 4.8 - I think this is the same as before the replacement - but I have read that even this isn't that reliable. Can anybody with a X200-20S please tell me their WEI score, and a 3DMark'06 score?
After the motherboard was replaced I also got a new drive (BD-ROM) on E: Of course X200-20S models don't have Blu-Ray so this does show that the motherboard is different to the original, albeit the part number apparently being the same (according to Toshiba support).
I would like to know if anybody else has had a similar problem, and whether they managed to find a resolution. I am aware that the warranty expires in November and therefore must get things done quickly if anything can be done.

Thanks for your suggestion. In all the time I've had the computer I've never bothered changing power management options, so am treating like for like. Since you mentioned it I've just had a look to see what the cpu option is, and it's 100% for the maximum output. However it is running more slowly as mentioned in the previous post.
I am convinced beyond doubt that the motherboard (which is the only thing to be replaced) is the cause of the problem. I have reset the computer to factory settings, installed the latest drivers; everything I can possibly do - and every test (including my memory of how games ran before) proves beyond doubt that the machine is running more slowly.
I simply am at a loss as to how to get the machine back to the previous speed. I can only think it isn't possible because the new motherboard replacements don't work as efficiently as the originals - although with the advance in technology over two and a half years that doesn't seem quite right. I can't get Toshiba support to take this problem seriously, because nothing is "broken". I wonder if it's some jumpers, or settings on the board which weren't done correctly when it was replaced.

Deciding best purchases.I am attracted to moving up, seeking a better visual experience for editing. Looking at Final Cut express, Soundtrack, Garageband, ilife09 with iMovie09. The more I read the more confusing it is. I am often lining up educational audio to video for hiqual pro product (voiceover mixed with 1 track of music-usually only 2 track audio). I am experienced somewhat in Audacity. I might need noise clean later. With multi versions out there and changes to stuff (this dropped this added) what should I do. This all started because I was told I should/could be using garageband instead of Audacity and then importing my iMovie06 into it. But then I can't export it back as project tro iMovie06 I think. I was told move up to iMovie09 since FCE is too complicated for now. But it appears FCE allows visual tie in of audio and video but then I don't know what version of FCE to get (Soundtrack was dropped form latest version FCE). Do I still need to use garageband with FCE for audio editing?

It depends on what you need to do. Audio can be edited in FCE, which includes a good set of audio filters & effects. I've done some pretty extensive audio editing in FCE and even when I did have SoundTrack I never used it. If you're adding voiceovers or additional audio tracks then I'd say FCE can do what you need and you don't need an external audio editor. (Except perhaps for sound cleaning, for which I suggest SoundSoap.)
Overall, I'd suggest spelling out exactly what kind of video & audio editing you think you need or want to do. Then with those requirements you can figure out which software is best suited to your needs.

Sound Problem With new motherboard Z87-G45 Gaming

2 days ago i bought a new motherboard msi Z87-G45 Gaming ,
when i started playing my favorite game (cs go) i noticed that the sound at the left and right are louder(way louder it even hurts me ears )
and the sound at the front and the back are just normal, i also noticed that quality of the sound is worse , so im wondering if the onboard soundcard is broken or has it to do with something else?
and yes the Realtek Hd Audio driver is installed
im using the onboard soundcard Realtek ALC1150
and the headset Siberia V2 Steelseries

How do I set up a wirelss music system with a MacBook Pro? Need advice on what to use: Bluetooth or AirPort. I don't have speakers yet. I listen mostly to classical music. Any advice on what kind of speakers?

I live in a small apartment and would like speakers in the bedroom and the living room. I like the "all-in-one" units. Would two of these sound better than one in the living room? I have a wireless modem from my phone company, but I have not hooked it up yet. What is AirPort and is it necessary to do what I want to do?

If your goal is to have a "whole home" audio experience, then using separate speakers in both the living room and bedroom would the proper approach.
If you decide to go the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) route, then you would need a minimum of two of these devices; one each for each room. The AX is a wireless Internet router with built-in audio. The AX's audio port supports both analog and digital optical audio output and will work with either self-powered speakers or an audio receiver that supports either connection type.
Classical music has very fine dynamics and, of course, the better the speaker, the better the sound reproduction. However, you don't need to go overboard as the AX is limited to the audio files that iTunes can play.

Need advice on what component(s) to use

I'm trying to put together a UI that displays a background image and displays on top of that image several jpanels, jlabels, and icon type images . I'd like the user to be able to drag the panels etc. to a desired location.
I'll then need to grab the coordinates and store them to a file, so that I can rebuild the UI with the components in the same place that they were placed when restarting the application
Wow that was hard to put into words.
The idea is the image will be a layout and the panels will be the physical position of a data source. A bit like in home automation programs that shows a layout of the house with the locations of cameras and switches etc.
So I'm thinking JInternalFrames may work but I need something that is transparent.
Any advice or a push in the right direction before I dive in will be greatly appreciated.

panels would work equally as well, but you're still going to have the same problem (from your first post)

if any of the add-ons has a listener, you'll have to pass on the event to the panel.
this might be close enough - a small area at the top, when the cursor changes you can drag the panel around

Need advice on what kind of report, queries to tune database slow issues

Currently we have AWR reports. Our system is 11.1.07 version on AIX/Linux.
Sometimes application will say it is slow running some queries.
We have firewalls implemented so we cannot use toad, or other tools to access through our workstation.
Any good manual suggestions to pinpoint what exact wrong in the system?

Try to forget for a moment the nice GUI tools and read instead what experts do when trying to answer "Why my database is slow ?" in http://www.nocoug.org/Journal/NoCOUG_Journal_201105.pdf.
In your case I would try to work with end users to identify application scenarios that are slow and use SQL trace/TKPROF on related database sessions. For this you only need command line interface (CLI) access to run SQL statements and access to machine hosting database server: that should be possible with the jump server otherwise you cannot do anything and you would better ask someone that has CLI access to database and database server machine.
If you have license to use AWR, you can also use ADDM report which runs an automatic analysis of AWR report and give some advices:

We need advice on what cloud service is the best option for us

Hello,
I work for a very small company, we have two designer. Both of the designers just go new computers and we are looking at switching to the cloud but are confused about what the best plan is for us. We mainly need the creative suites softwares but we occasionally both work with a few production suite programs as well. Again, it is only the two computers and we do not see a need to add anther computer within the new few years. What is the best option for us?
