The newly acquired secured CC will help you rebuild your credit if you pay on time, etc.You did not state how much cash or income you have, assuming it is not enough to pay cash for a home, and you need to borrow, you must get your FICO scores up to at least 640, and then at that time, reconsider buying a home through a home loan. You are in no financial condition to get approved for a loan right now, any loan, let alone a mortgage in the 6 figuures. You work on cleaning up your credit report to raise FICO scores is the first order of business, clean up derogatories, etc.

  • Need advice before buying MBP please!!

Hi everyone, sorry this is AGAIN a "need help before buying" post.
I'm basically looking to buy a MBP for movie production : I will do data transfer (footage into USB3 to TB2 drives/USB3 drives).
And maybe some playback of very large 4K video files.
I was looking at a few options :
First of all I missed my chance and saw a rMBP 15inch 2.4ghz(ish) for 1900 (canadian) and didn't order it.
I've got my eyes on either another rMBP which is a 2.7 with Geforce 650M (june 2012) for 2400$ or a brand new one with maybe 2.5ghz for 2200$.
Your advices on these models? Is the Iris Pro GPU good enough? Is 2.2ghz enough for my tasks?
    Thanks soooo much!!

    Hi pbearr,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I’m glad to hear that you are in the market for a new Mac! I wanted to chime in here and make a quick comment about 4K video support. Are you planning on purchasing an external 4K monitor? If so, keep in mind that a 2012 MacBook Pro with Retina Display does not support 4K video. To learn more, please check out this resource:
Using 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs with Mac computers - Apple Support
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202856
You can use 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs with these Mac computers.
MacBook Pro (Retina, Late 2013 and later)
    Mac Pro (Late 2013)
iMac (27-inch, Late 2013 and later)
    Mac mini (Late 2014)
Every user, task, and configuration is different. I wish you all of the luck in determining which Mac is the best for you!

  • I need advice on buying a new computer and monitor.

Without going into huge detail, I am ready to buy a new desktop for my photography hobby.  I am still running
CS3 (hoping that will work with Windows 7?), Corel Paint Shop Pro X (yeah, I know I have really old software, but I
don't feel the need to upgrade just yet), Picasa, and all the software that comes with my Canon 40D.  I take all my pics in
.raw and then edit/convert.  I have a 1 terabyte eternal drive where I store my photos, but editing from that source is S-L-O-W.
Someone mentioned on another site something about aneSata drive.  Need more info. (I want an easy way to backup my
photos monthly, because I have a fear of someone breaking in my home, stealing my pc and then all my photos are gone.
With the external drive, I can put it in my safe deposit box.)
I want a monitor (preferably not widescreen) that will be accurate with color and not have a glare, maybe 20" or so.  I print photos at home on my HP Photosmart printer, but I also have some printed professionally.  I would like recommendations on monitor calibration gadgets/software
so that what I see is very close to what will print.
This computer will have MSOffice 2010 on it. Will have quite a few other softwares on it that are currently on my old pc.
We don't watch movies on the PC or do any gaming so the video card will mainly be used for photography and some light video use.  We do skype.
Would like to stay in the range of $1500-2000 if possible.  I've basically purchased Dell's in the past due to the ease of designing my system,
but I have had two lemons and am certainly not tied to Dell.
I know I want a wireless mouse/keyboard.  Currently have Dell Speakers 5/1, which are decent enough for my use, as long as I can connect them to my
    new PC.
Thanks for good advice!!  (And I want this PC to last me about 5 years so I would guess I need at least 8 g ram, 3.5 GHz processor, preferably Intel.
Also want 4 or more USB ports on the front or side, as my PC location is not suitable to use the back ports easily.)   Thank you!

I've taken quite a "non-standard" approach to this...  a little while back I purchased a powerful Dell Precision T5400 workstation that's come off lease from eBay, then populated it with good hardware.  Result?  Dual quad core Xeon 3.16 GHz 16 GB system with 3 TB of internal RAID disk storage and a good modern video card for about $1500.  This is a system that would have sold new for probably $6,000 just a few years ago.
I didn't have to buy any of the external stuff (monitor, backup drives, keyboard/mouse, etc.) because I upgraded from an existing workstation and was able to re-use all that stuff, plus one 1 TB drive from the old system - which I then sold for $700 to recoup some of the cost (total outlay was then only $800).
I describe the system and how I put it together in some detail here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/827500
This is a far more powerful system than anything I could get new for the same price.
Just a quick glance at eBay and I see that some T5500 workstations are becoming available for reasonable prices now.  I see, for example, a dual quad system with 12 GB of RAM for a Buy It Now price of a hair over $1000.

  • Need advice about buying iMac

    Hello,
I am buying a used iMac G5 from private party.
Do not have much money. Going to look at it. He does not
have restoration discs, but is including Leopard
disc. Seems like a good computer for 400.00
just wondering if I need restoration discs...what to look for.
Am a college student and need one for school.
Any help would be great. I am familiar with
    Apple.  Thank you

I wouldn't put your money into a PowerPC at this point.  You can buy a refurbished Intel-based iMac, with standard 1 year Apple warranty, for $929 in the Apple store:  http://store.apple.com/us/product/FC508LL/A or if you want a lower priced mac, a mac mini starts at $579 with the education discount.  If you're limit is $400, at least buy an Intel-based mac, as that will serve you better for the next few years.
Unfortunately, PowerPC's have been left behind. Some programs like Flash no longer support PowerPCs, and some web sites require a current level of Flash to work (some ESPN programming comes to mind).  I've also found that some online content requires Intel processors.
If you decide to buy the iMac G5 without the original distribution disks, you may want to call Apple to see if you can buy a set (they were about $60, however, Apple may no longer have them in stock) or plan to, at some point, buy TechTool Pro, which can do similar hardware testing as the Apple Hardware Test which is on the original distribution disks.  You might be able to find a set on ebay, but make sure they are the gray-faced OS X disks for your model iMac G5. Those disks only work on the systems they are delivered with.
Personally, I wouldn't buy a used mac unless it came with a clean hardware report via the Apple Hardware extended test or via one of the TechTool products (Deluxe or Pro).

  • Need advice on buying a new laptop

My only specifications are I'd like a HP, light weight, not a netbook, mostly for internet use.  I will use it a little with Word, Excel and Publisher for projects here and there.  I'd like to stay under $700.  If I can stay in the under $600 range then I'd more than likely get the extended warranty.
Also, would it be better to get directly from HP?
    Any advice is appreciated!
    TIA,
    AnGee

It looks like IBM owned part of it in 2005.
IBM became the owner of 18.9% of Lenovo in 2005 as part of Lenovo's acquisition of the IBM personal computing division.[12] Since then IBM has steadily lowered its shareholding in Lenovo. In July 2008 the IBM shareholding went below the 5% reporting disclosure threshold.[13] In February 2009 the CEO Bill Amelio was replaced with Yang Yuanqing.[14]

  • Need advice for buying a mini pci wireless card

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba laptop that I have bought almost two years ago. This laptop has a Intel 2200BG wireless chipset which does work, but the connection quality is quite low. Sometimes the connection speed jumps, sometimes it drops altogether. I've tried all the driver upgrades, power management tricks and all that could be found on the net. Some of those help, but there is always something that does not work as it should.
Long story short, I've decided to buy a Wireless mini pci card. The problem is that these cards are nowhere to find. There is nothing on Toshiba's site and apart from some offers on eBay there is almost nothing to choose from. I know there are other options, but I prefer a mini pci card.
Can anyone help me on this issue?
    Thank you,
    Peter.

    Hi Peter!
I had the same problem with my Satellite M70 and Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG card. I had noticed that ping response (e.g. with WinMTR application) to router was very poor and there was a even 3 seconds delay and many packets lost. It was impossible to me to make any VoIP call. Other laptops of course work fine in the network. I was said in Toshiba service that it should be like this, and they cannot exchange the card.
The only solution that I found is to change card configuration to work only in "B" mode.
    Try:
    1. Go to Start/Connect To/Wireless Network Connection/.
    2. Click "Change advanced settings".
    3. Click Configure and choose Advanced tab.
    4. Find "Wireless network mode", change to 802.11b only!
It will reduce maximum network connection rate to 11MB/s (important only if you are sharing huge files in local network) but stability will be significantly better. Ping will be never less than 0,05s.
Other solution is of course buying a Atheros mini-pci card. Try to find it in shops specialized in wireless communication.
    Best regards
    Chris

  • Need advice on buying a Qosmio G20-126

    Hi everybody,
I was just passing by a local electronics shop in a mall when I found a Toshiba Qosmio G20-126 on sell for $ 1361.47. And those are the specifications for the laptop:
Processor: Intel Pentium Centrino M770 / 2.13 GHz Data Bus Speed: 533 MHz, 2MB Cache memory
    Ram: 2 x 512 MB DDR II SDRAM - 533 MHz
    Storage: 2X Hard Drive: 100 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 5400 rpm
    CD-ROM: DVD±RW (+R double layer) / DVD-RAM
Card Reader Type: 5 in 1 card reader, Blue Tooth, IR, Remote Control
Display Screen: 17" TFT active matrix, Max Resolution: 1440 x 900 ( WXGA+), Colour support: 24-bit (16.7 million colours), TruBrite
Video card: 128 MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 - PCI Express x16
    I have a LG-P1 laptop and That??s is specifications:
    Processor: Intel Core Duo L2400 1.83 GHz ( Dual-Core ), 2MB Cache Memory
    Ram: 512 MB DDR II SDRAM - 667 MHz - PC2-5300
    Stroge: 80 GB - 4200 rpm
    CD-ROM: Double Layer DVD-Writer
    Display Screen: 15.4" TFT active matrix 1280 x 800 ( WXGA )
Card Reader 5 in 1, Bluesoul, A Fingerprint Reader, 5.1 CH sound, SRS sound.
Video Card: ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 (256 MB)
Now, the sell??s man told me that all the parts in the G20 are dedicated and exactly similar to desktop parts. Meaning, that I can upgrade the laptop normally as if I am upgrading a Desktop (Processor, Sound Card, Video Card, Ram). Is that True? And If so, Can I Replace my CD-ROM with a H-DVD one as well? Finally Do you recommend me to buy the G20 or stick with my P1 and why?
Please help, I waiting for your replays.
    Regards,

Oh man, wasnt I clear enough? Its a little bit annoying, two people already told you:
You cannot upgrade ANYTHING on that machine. NOTHING!
You can just put more RAM into it. But thats the end of line. No VGA, no CPU etc...
And if the vga card is REALLY dedicated, then where would you try to get another if no one excepting toshiba provides just 1 model of that vga especially for that machine.
You have to dig it that a notebook is ABSOLUTELY NO DESKTOP and is NOT UPGRADEBLE.
That means no replacing of parts like in a desktop.
Sorry for my rough words, but I thought it was clear and I am not writing in chinese. :)

  • Need advice on buying older mac pro

    Hello fellow mac pro experts.
I am in the market for a used mac pro, and would like to know which one you would recommend and with how much RAM for the following main tasks:
    1) The usual email / internet stuff
    2) DVD rendering
    3) Logic Pro
    4) Will have to be able to run Windows 7 Ultimate using bootcamp.
I will use two 30" monitors, from HP model LP3065 (2560 resolution)
I would rather use Snow Leopard (10.6.8) if possible. I don't like Lion or Mountain Lion.
So, what is the configuration you would recommend, considering most small tasks (email, internet, office, etc) use just 1 core most of the times?
    Thanks in advance!!

When I bought the software I was told that it is possible to install the software on a second computer. But I also read lately that I will only be allowed to work with one computer. I want to work on both of my computers without de/installing and de/activating the software every time. Is this possible? Thank you!!

You should be able to install the products on two computers as long as they are not running at same. Also the platform should be MAC.

  • Need advice about certification: do J2SE 1.4 or wait for 1.5 to go out?

I need advice here! I am studing for Java Programmer certification (310-035) and I know now that the certification does not have any expiration date, instead it's version based. So, if I get now a J2SE 1.4 certification, soon it will be outdated... I guess!
Does anyone know or have any ideia of WHEN java 1.5 sdk will be avaliable, and anyone can tell me how long it will take for a new 1.5 programmer certification be avaliable for general public?

Do both. 1.5 is far enough away that you do not want to wait for it.
And besides, 1.5 has enough new stuff in it that you'll want to recertify anyway.

  • Need advice on video software.

    Need advice on video software.
I currently use adobe elements 3 and have done so for a few years now with no problems. my os is XP and my system is a couple of years old, but we do have a brand new win7 machine in the house.
I am currently look at Cyberlink PowerDirector 8 Ultra OR Adobe Premiere Elements 8. Reviews for both softwares seem very good BUT, when I dig deeper into user reviews instead of editor reviews do I find problems.
Major problems with program crashing all over the place, at start up etc, and it is still not getting along with any win7 machine? Major problems with drivers. Honestly, I do not want to have to jump through dozens of hoops to get any software to run. After I pay for it, it should run, period.
Has anyone else here used both softwares and can you give an honest opinion of each?
I am also asking these same questions on the cyberlink site.
I would like to upgrade my video software to take advantage of the new features that are coming out but I really don't want a big headache trying to run one or the other. To be fair, when I bought adobe elements 3 I had also bought pinnacle, which has gathered dust since my first week with it, which is why elements was purchased. That was money wasted and I do not wish to repeat this. I would like to go with Premiere Elements 8 but remain very unsure.

If your newer machine is Win7 64-bit, it might be worth waiting for SP-1 to be issued, and then hope that 64-bit drivers are fully included. The 64-bit drivers now seem t be an issue at this point, and that will affect any NLE program.
Also, and regardless of which particular program you choose, optimizing your computer, the OS, the hardware, and the resources management, will go a very long way to insuring success. Few programs can tax a computer, as an NLE can - any NLE. Video and Audio editing will stress your system, like almost nothing else can, except for heavy-duty CAD, or 3D work, though those are usually done only on specialized, optimized computers, designed just for those applications.
Not the specific advice that you seek, but it's the best that I can do.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • I wanna buy a movie but every time I try and reedem my code it says, card has not been properly activated

I wanna buy I movie but ever time I try and reedem my 15$ iTunes card it keeps on saying " card is not activated properly"

Like all gift cards, iTunes Gift Cards have to be activated by the retailer at the store where the card was purchased and that message makes it sound like that did not take happen. So perhaps that is the issue and you might have to take the card and the receipt back to the store and have it activated.
If the card was truly a gift and you don't have the receipt, then look here for help,

If nothing on that website works to get this resolved, there is a link where you can contact iTunes support. You may need to do that in order to get this straightened out.

  • TV monitor display project, need advice.

So I will be starting a project soon for my job. It will require some content for a store lobby TV display screen. Basically I will be making some content, whether it be scrolling images, animations, or maybe a video clip playing automatically. I will have maybe all of these things to be played throughout the day in the lobby of my work for customers to be viewing. This is the first time I have taken on a project such as this and I'm not sure where to start. I need advice on what type of information I need in order to begin this such as what size to start my project as, format, etc. Thanks!

    Hi,
    You have two options:
    1. Create the Edge Animation on the Computer, and play the animation and use some screen capture software that will give you a video. This video you can play on your lobby TV  in loop.
    2. If the lobby TV is a smart tv (i.e. it has browser to navigate the webpage), then you can host the Edge animation content files on some server, and navigate to the server url, which will play the animation on the browser in the TV.

  • Advice on buying

    hello:)
i will buy a macbook soon.still looking for deals.
i was wondering about the refurbished models?
from what ive read they are the previous generation?
what are youre thoughts on them?santa rosa?
should i wait a bit a buy a new macbook or are the previous pretty much the same?
    thank you.goodays.

Refurbished MacBooks can be either the current version or previous versions. You just have have to check the description. Refurbished machines come with a full warranty and are usually thoroughly checked out. Many people here will swear by refurbs. The only problem is that they tend to have limited stock. Their refurb inventory varies from day to day. So just look from time to time to see if a particular model fits your needs:

  • I want to buy a house but scores are low.. Should I rent or try with a weaker file?

Due to a host of different reasons my credit tanked. I own that and I'm trying to fix it. The house I'm renting is going short sale and my family has to move. We just had this dropped on us. I'd love to buy this house but our scores just aren't there yet. The company we rent from has been pressuring us to buy this house (they also represent the seller). I'm currently waiting for Capital One credit cards to update and bump my middle score to 620 at least. I just feel like a weak buyer and would rather rent another year to have a stronger file. The realtor just sent a text saying going with a sub prime loan is better than throwing my money away on another rental. I'm just now seeing positive movement on my credit and then this happens. What would you do? Would you rent some where else and get a stronger file or try to buy with a weaker file? We have to be moved out of here by October. I also have a daughter who will be starting 8th grade in the middle of all this. I want her to feel settled for school.  I'd be using a VA loan. I have my certificate of eligibilty already so I know that's an option for 0 down payment.

We really like the house. It is 9 years old, very upgraded and in wonderful neighborhood. It's just horrible timing. For the right price this home would be a great choice. We would definately buy in this neighborhood. My wife feels like the owners of this home are trying to unload it now because brand new homes are being built directly behind it. The brand new homes are starting at a cheaper price than this home is asking for only they haven't been built yet. They are built to order. There is a ton of new contruction going on around town and countless homes available. I just wish we had one more year here. My wife wants to move next month before school starts and just pay the other 2 months rent to fullfill the lease so our daughter is settled before school starts. They want us to shownthe house for them and my wife would rather leave and give them the money than to pay them money to be disturbed all the time. It's going to cost between $3500 and $4500 to move and we just didn't need this hiccup. It feels like a waste of money. What sucks is they may not be able to sell this house just because they list it. If they don't sell it they will just turn around and rent it again. We would have been disrupted for nothing. The management company isn't giving back our deposit until 30 days after we leave. The only thing they want to hear from us is yes I have an offer or I will continue to pay rent until October. It feels like the only people the management care about it the owner. They are representing the owner in the short sale and the realtor who rented us this house (who works at the same agency) is trying to represent us. It's not working.
