Need advice working with 720 x 576

I´working with some of my old clips that are shot in 720 X 576, vid rate 25 fps. I am used to working in AIC 1920 X 1080i50, so i used Easy setup and changed it to PAL - DV-PAL before i started working with the clips. (I´m not sure if that is correct settings?)
As soon as i load a clip to the timeline, it needs rendering before i can watch it. Is this normal, or do I have to change my settings?
Even after i have rendered the clip, I get the spinning beachball. I keep all my media on a separate Lacie HD, and I save my projectfile in that HD as well. Is this the preferable way?

You have not described how you acquired the clips.
Obviously you have not captured them in FCE and your reference to your iMovie folder is ambiguous.
I am inferring that they weren't even captured by iMovie?
I believe these are MPEG-2 files which contain no audio.
FCE can only work properly with DV and HDV. Any other file type will need constant rendering (except for AVCHD/AIC).
Where did these files come from?

Need advice working with Metal-FX files...

I've just been given a large job and at the last minute the spec of the job was changed to the Metal-FX process, and the files provided to me have already been converted, meaning they are 4C+spot channel (silver). On most of the images I need to remove the silver spot layer from underneath the foreground subject.
Some of the simpler images will be easy to work with, but a couple of them require the compositing of 3 and 4 other images together for the final image. Is there any easy way to do this and bring this spot channel into layers for easy editing and blending? It doesn't seem easy from what I've tested. It seems that I will need to possibly work the 4C in layers with alpha channels and multiple silver channels which will need to be merged together using the alpha channels from the 4C layers.
Or am I missing something here?
Thanks for any info you can provide since I've worked only once or twice using spot colours about 5 years ago.

Seems like you are missing the point of Metal-FX, its designed so that the silver does not need to be knocked out by the cmyk.
All the files Layers will have 5 colours you don't need to think in terms of the silver needing to be a separate layer. If you need to knock out the silver make your selection then use the channels panel to edit just the silver channel.
Metal-FX works best if you avoid solids (100%) in the cmyk colours.

Thank you for replying. Unfortunately, I already did all of these things. As you can see from the below screenshot, the language is already set. Also, this screenshot was taken in Safe Mode, so NoScript is not enabled. About:accounts still says I need to enable cookies for some reason. So, this solution didn't work....

Advice/Help needed migrating/working with two macs

I currently own a mid-2010 (I think) Macbook Pro and a couple of months ago I bought a Mac Mini. Unfortunately when I set up the Mac Mini I was short on time and my excitement/lack of patience got the better of me so I copied everything on the HDD from my MBP over to the Mac Mini and I have been using the same profile to login on both machines.
This causes a few problems, particularly when I'm trying to connect the two machines via a network to share files. They can never connect, I'm thinking probably because they're using the same profile and get confused. I also haven't taken the time to properly install all the applications and so some do not work on the mini.
Rather than trying to pull my hair out trying to solve the issues, I think I've reached a point where I think I need to either start over or get some advice on what to do.
Ideally I'd like to use the Mini mainly for music apps (Garageband, possibly Logic Pro X in the future) and occassional internet and iTunes use. Since it has a bigger HDD, I'd like to store my music on the Mini.
I would then use the MBP as my general internet and iTunes machine. I would however like to be able to use it for music production stuff (again GB and/or Logic) if I am travelling. I know that I will need to upgrade the OS and the RAM which I am happy to do.
I would like to be able to have most of the same apps on both machines and also be able to easily transfer files, music etc. between the two.
So in light of what I'd like to achieve, what would be my best course of action? Would I be best to start over and try to migrate from fresh or can I make something work with what I have?
A further complication is that I have since used both machines so I will have some new stuff saved on both machines that won't be on the other. Is there any way to keep these new files if I start over?
Would anyone be gracious enough to point me in the direction of an easy to follow guide to help me achieve what I want?

Where are your render files being stored to? The path should be pointing to your external. I'm betting that it's set to your system drive instead.

the db given to me is in excel and i can do whatever with it but the final output have to be in excel.
( i initially imported the excel db to access and everything is out running fine. But as i wont be using the application after i had it out. So i thought it would be better to allow it to work on excel thus saving the trouble of importing and exporting)

Seriously, oving from Developer to JDevloper is a hard road. Forms is a 4GL and Java is a 3GL. This means you can do a lot more with Java than you can with Forms. It also means you have to do a lot of things in Java that Forms gives you for free.
The Oracle implementation in JDeveloper has some problems; just skim through this forum to get an idea of the range of problems. Some of these are areas where the documentation is inadequate (although it has improved markedly over the last few months), others are bugs in the Oracle APIs. And of course the IDE itself isn't as robust as one would like.
The good news is that Java is a really fun language and cool to work with. Once you've got to grips with it you'll never want to go back.

I'm confused on how iCloud works with saving documents. It mentions a number of times that you can work with Office documents, but then it says you need Pages on both my iPhone and Computer to be able to work with and save documents in icloud. How exactly does that work?

I think the problem is that my version of iPhoto is 7.4 and I need 9.0 or above for iCloud to transfer photos without syncing. I do not have iLife. Will I have to purchase that in order to get the correct version of iPhoto so it will work with iCloud? I don't really want iLife but if it is the only way i can get the iPhoto version I need, I guess I will have to purchase it.

HELP needed in working with established InDesign catalog

I have just inherited the job of up keep and editing of our catalog. The entire catalog is on InDesign cs5. I have never worked with any InDesign programs. It looks to me like the entire thing was done in individual text boxes, I am at a loss as to were to begin, can anyone recommend a tutorial to get me started. I have looked and did not find what I needed.

I like the Visual Quickstart Guides to get to know a new program - lots of pics, captions and tips - besides wordy explanations.
Also indesignsecrets.com for tips once you know the program better - and their pdf magazine - they are quite happy to point out bugs and workarounds. I always find Adobe resources hide the shortcomings and tell you everything is perfect - until the next version of the software where they tell you it wasn't but have now fixed it!
(I have no ties to the above)

I would assume you need Microsoft PowerPoint to work with a PowerPoint file. (Or something like Impress, the free version of PowerPoint included in OpenOffice.org.)

Sorry, I don't use any Oracle programs and I not sure it will work, but it does for other Plugins like Adobe Flash.
In the Firefox program files folder, create a folder named '''plugins''' and drop that file in that new folder. When you launch Firefox 5, open the Plugins tab and see if that Plugin appears there. <br />

Then if it works.
