Need all fonts embedded in my PDF.

I converted a word document to pdf through pdf pack. How can I get the following fonts embedded in my pdf: arial MT, arial MT bold, and arial MT italic? Thanks.

Hi Cyn Tarr,
You can embed fonts using Adobe Acrobat.
PDF Pack cannot accomplish this.

  • Detecting if a pdf has all fonts embedded

I'm looking for some ideas on how to solve a problem we have in accepting pdf.
We accept a user's pdf and we need to make sure that all fonts in the pdf are embedded.
If the pdf does not have all fonts embedded then the user should get a messsage telling him to embed all fonts.
The site is written in .net so I'm assuming that I have to create .dll using the adobe sdk.
Are there any other ways to solve this problem or any ideas that may be simpler to implement?

Pre-flighting is NOT something new to Acrobat in the app GUI it is however new to the scripting side. I don't have this version but you can build a set of conditions then test a PDF to see if it meets the conditions. Conditions can be just about anything in a PDF you care to check.
Again better to ask over in the Acrobat scripting forum on wether you could implement this.

  • IPhone doesn't render all fonts embedded on PDF documents

The PDF reader in the iPhone does not render all fonts. When viewing attachments or PDFs posted on a website some text fields just don't show up, but they do when viewed in Preview or Acrobat Reader.
I have not seen discussions about this so I just want to make sure that the Software developers at Apple are aware of the problem.
This is a big issue for my profession (Graphic Design/Advertising).

  • Getting small fonts embedded in Pages PDFs... how?

I have a Pages document that has a block of small (6pt and 7pt) type.  When I create a PDF of the document, the OS X PDF creation system substitutes bit-maps for the characters, and there is a significant loss in legibility.  If I create a similar PDF using Adobe Acrobat X (via the Print / PDF / Save as Adobe PDF method) these characters are represented correctly.  Here is a illustration of the problem: first image via Adobe Acrobat, second image via OS X.
The document is intended to become a Template for use on our company's Mac computers (running iWork 09 / Mountain Lion currently), and these computers will need to be able to generate PDFs from the template.  It is not helpful for us to have to install Acrobat X on every machine simply to allow this to happen.
Is there a way to adjust the settings for PDF creation within OSX to correct for this problem?
Any suggestions would be most gratefully received.

    Hi Tom,
Really helpful suggestions.  Don't solve problem, but do get me much closer.  I checked the embedding information as you suggested, and the Font is being embedded in both the OS X document and the Acrobat document, but the way in which the font is embedded is different between the two documents.
Separately, I checked what the document looks like in Acrobat (not tried this previously, as most of our machines don't have it), and the two documents look the same.  Also, Preview prints both documents to look the same.
So in a way I suppose I don't need to worry about it - it looks ugly, but is not affecting the function of the document generated.  But would be better if I could get Preview to not produce jaggy text if I could (as we can't afford to install Acrobat on machines just to eliminate this problem).  Any ideas?
    Background information...
Here is the information reported by Acrobat about font embedding for the Frutiger Light font - first image for the OS X generated document, second for the Acrobat generated document:
The report on embedding is quite different.
The OS X generated file has embedded a "Type 1" subset of Frutiger Light five times, using Custom and or Roman encoding.
The Acrobat generated file has embedded a "Type 1" subset of Frutiger Light twice using ANSI and Custom encoding and has also embedded a third subset of type "Type 1 (CID)" with encoding "Identity-H".
Second, another view of the file when viewed in Preview, even more zoomed in that previous one - the first two images from left are OS X generated (export / best, print / save as PDF), the third is Acrobat generated, and has much less jagged edges on d or W for example:
Here are same documents (in same order) viewed in Acrobat - text renders the same in each case.

  • Font embedding problem in PDFs

Since upgrading to Leopard from Tiger-
We are losing fonts embedded into pdfs, either saved through Preview or Adobe Indesign CS3.
The preview of pdfs, both in the finder windows and in Entourage email attachments are missing fonts too. Sometimes opening them resolves the issue, but not usually.
This has occured to both User and System level fonts.
We have cleaned the font caches, but this only provides a temporary fix.
We have tried not using our Suitcase Fusion and just letting FontBook manage the fonts on this machine, the problem still manifests itself.
The only change in the equation from a perfectly operational machine was the change from Tiger to leopard.
    Any thoughts/help = greatly appreciated.

Update: Reader 8 on a PC displays everything fine, so it's a matter of updating

  • Font Embedding Question in PDF exported from PageMaker v7

I am having difficulty embedding the majority of my fonts in PDFs exported from PageMaker v7. When exporting to PDFs, a "cannot embed font" error is generated.
    Technical Details:
The fonts I have are ALL LEGAL, and were purchased with complete licenses when required.
The fonts properties show them to be completely embedable, with no restrictions in terms of installation, etc.
The fonts can be placed and embedded in PDFs from all other programs I've attempted this with (Illustrator, Acrobat, MSWord, WordPerfect, etc.).
    Disclaimer:
Yes, I know PageMaker is old, and yes, I am in the process of upgrading to Creative Sutie (although, as an aside, it is extremely disappointing that even a token discount is not offered to those who have purchased every Adobe and MacroMedia software package in the past, but I digress...). However, several of my clients require PageMaker files (for a variety of reasons I won't go into here).
Thank you in advance for any advice on what might be the underlying problem.

When generating PDF output from Pagemaker, I've used 2 methods:
    1. File>Export>PDF
This method works fine for a limited number of fonts (AGaramond for example), which is why I started this post. Bob Levine had suggested using Distiller instead.
    2. File>Printer Styles>Acrobat
I usually used this method when an offset printer requires crop marks, since the other method does not provide an option for crop marks.
This opens a window with numerous options, the pertinent ones to my question are:
Printer: New 2002 PPD for Adobe PS Driver on file
    PPD: Adobe PDF 3015.102
    Postscript: Download Fonts (3 options):
         None
         True Type and Type 1
         True Type Only
When I choose download "True Type and Type 1", I get the same "cannot embed font" error if I use most of my fonts (with the exception of a few that work).
When I choose NONE for the option, the PS file is generated without errors.
Once the .ps file is generated, I then use Distiller 4 to open the file and output PDF file.
If I used "True Type and Type 1" for download font option, and the font does not generate an error, the PDF file is fine.
If I used "NONE" for download font option, when I open the PDF, it indicates that the fonts are embedded. However, since I do not download the font, I am nervous that this might cause problems when I go to an offset printer.
I do not print to a file using a printer driver (for example Linotype, Acrobat, etc.). The 2 processes I've used seem to be independent of what the default printer is on the operating system (XP).
    Thanks!

  • Need help with embedded SWF in PDF as navigation

    Hi,
I was wondering is there a way to have an embedded swf navigate to different pages of a pdf?
    Example:
My swf is on page one. There are mulitple buttons in the swf, when clicked it will take you to page 3, or 5, or 7, etc.
Currently, when I click on a button, it DOES take me to say page 4, but the content on page is the SWF file from page 1, and not the content that is suppose to be on page 4. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
This is what I have in the flash action:
    btn_1994_1.addEventListener( MouseEvent.CLICK, p1994 );
    function p1994(e:MouseEvent):void{
         //addChild(pop_1994);
         doExternalInterfaceCall("gotoTarget", "pink");
    function doExternalInterfaceCall(myfncall, parm)
        flash.external.ExternalInterface.call(myfncall,parm);
And this is what I have in the javascript of the pdf:
    function gotoTarget(name)
         this.gotoNamedDest(name);
Please help me fix this problem.
    Thanks in advanced!
ps. I am using Acrobat 9 Pro

    can anyone help?

Acrobat can not be run on a server (or web site), which means that the Acrobat SDK is not an option for you.  There are, however, NUMEROUS companies that offer server-side preflight solutions (which is what you are looking for)

  • Where is the Url for free Adobe Acrobat X Pro that will allow me to create PDF/X ‑1a requires all fonts to be embedded,

Is there a free copy of Adobe Acrobat Pro that will allow me to create PDF/x‑1a with all requires all fonts to be embedded. I already have Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.

The Standard joboptions that are used by default don't embed most so-called system fonts.
Change your joboptions to High Quality Print and you will get Arial embedded plus much higher quality imagery.
BTW, PDF/X is great (I'm actually Chair of the PDF/X standards committee), but PDF/X-1a created by using the PDF/X-1a joboptions ruins output by flattening transparency, yielding stitching and other image artifacts that you can see both on screen and print if your document has any transparency (including drop shadows, reflections, and even clipped images). It also forces all content to CMYK. PDF/X-4 is a better choice.
What are you creating the PDF file from? Microsoft Office documents? Adobe layout programs such as InDesign?
Let us know and we can give you a more focused recommendation as to what to do.

  • Has the issue with font licences and embedding fonts in a dynamic PDF been solved?

    Hi all,
Can I check if this issue has been fixed in LiveCycle yet please?
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3724557
Issue is that although LC lets you specify what typeface should be used for the caption/value in a form, it cannot discern the corresponding licencing requirements.
So in the case where even though a particular font isn’t used for any editable information – being set as the caption only – LC requires a font permitting embedding for editing, otherwise the font is not embedded at all and therefore is substituted for another typeface on a system where the font isn’t available.
Seems LC needs it's embedding requirements to catch up with the usage of type in a dynamic PDF, as in cases where the fonts bundled with Reader or system fonts aren't suitable, such as when a visual standard needs to be met, the user may not be overly keen on paying a significant financial penalty for editable font licences.
    Thanks
    James

    Hi James,
I don't think that it the case at all. If the font has a license for enbedding then that is what happens:
I accept that some fonts come with expensive "embedding for editing" licenses, but Adobe's implementation is in line with the font industry's expectations.
I don't think this is a "bug" that will be fixed.

  • Embedded font errors after migrating pdfs to new web server

    Hi All,
After hundreds of working pdfs were moved to new web server, they produce variations of the "cannot extract the embedded font" (name of font) "some characters may not display or print correctly" error. The first page loads perfectly and the rest never load. All these files open fine when I open local copies in Reader (9.1.3) and Professional (7.1.0).They also open fine when moved to another server. When I delete copies on the server and re-upload using the working copies, the errors persist. Doesn't make sense. I also occasionally get the error "there were problems reading this document (14)".
I was told by the IT department that a possible cause was that the new server environment used fonts installed on the server rather than the local machine to display pdfs.  This doesn't make sense to me.  I've researched these errors and haven't found anything applicable or that has worked. Any suggestions? Has anyone else expeienced this?
The server is IIS and is running ASP.net. The IT dudes are saying they need to install all the refferenced fonts on the web server but due to the expense of this, they can't.This will nessecitate a really bizzarre and Rube Goldbergesque workaround (that I'm not even going to try to explain here) that I'd really like to avoid.  Any suggestions? Are there any Acrobat settings that need to be twekaed?

    Hi,
I read the following on another discussion in this forum:
it appears that with the shortkey ctrl+shift+Y you can force the pc to work around the system fonts

  • How can I find and remove an unused font embedded in PDF exported from a book?

The font (Myriad Pro) was the original [Basic Paragraph] font in the indd files, but I need to replace it with a different (approved) font.
MP is no longer found by Find Font in any of the indd files in the book.
It is not used (that I can find) in the AI files or the PSD files placed in the indd files.
Where could MP be hiding? It always shows as the default when I open the AI files, so is it somehow stored in the AI files even if unused and embedded in the PDF as a result of that?

After opening dozens and dozens of linked files,I finally found the offending "empty line of text" in one of the AI files I placed in the INDD file. Open > Select All.... then check the font panel. With mixed fonts, it was empty, but if everything was the correct font, it was filled in. It was just one AI file.
I want to thank you all for your great ideas and for sharing your experience. Onward, now.

  • Adobe Acrobat NOT Embedding All Fonts...

    Hi all,
We are using Adobe Acrobat 8.0.
One of the Print Houses trying to print our manuals on press is having font trouble. They are claiming we have not embedded one of our fonts. Our distiller is set up so all fonts are embedded - so we have no clue why they would be having this problem. How can we even check to see if fonts are not embedded before sending out our files?
Has anyone come across this problem before? Or have any ideas on how to solve this issue?
    Thank you,
    Tina

Acrobat is now at version 8.1.2
If you are having problems creating a PDF, there are two steps you should do FIRST
Go to the appropriate vendor web site and apply all updates to the program you are using (several recent messages have concerned problems with MS Office conversion, with the response that different versions of Office have different BUGS that must be fixed by a download from Microsoft - and MS Office products are not the only ones which may, from time to time, need to be updated to work properly)
Go to the Acrobat update page and apply the updates for your version of Acrobat
IN NUMBER ORDER (updates are not cumulative so, using version 8 as an example, you must apply 8.1.0 before the 8.1.1 update)

  • Full Font embedding in PDF

A couple of years ago, I set up some Distiller profiles to fully embed fonts into my PDFs. No subsetting allowed.
Since then, I've been using Indesign's PDF Presets, which used my created profiles, to create these same pdfs. Now that I have an issue that I need to investigate, I checked my PDFs in Acrobat and find that all my fonts are embedded subsets.
Now when I try to open Distiller 9 it locks up on me and I'm unsure why. Cannot find a key combination to release Distiller's settings that choke it.
But reading about on these boards, I'm getting the sense that perhaps I cannot fully embed anymore? I've made PDFX 1a, 3a, and 4 and find they are still subsets. These are mostly Type 1 and OTF, with a couple of TTF's mixed in.
What is best practice so that a PDF that is provided to printer, etc has the full font embedded, provided the permissions for the font is set?
    thanx, sam

PDF font embedding/subsetting is the current operation - there were just too many issues with indexed fonts with the old PDF export engine (lack of Il8n support, must deploy font files with the PDF, lack of proper barcode support etc).
The engine will still index fonts if it tries to use font that's unavailable or not subsettable on the runtime system, and defaults to the Java default fonts.
That's not something I recommend - font substitution to the default Java fonts would play havoc with your report formatting.
PDF font subsetting is currently the way all current Crystal Reports engine works.
    Sincerely,
    Ted Ueda

  • Embedding fonts in an existing pdf that does not have the fonts embedded

    Hi,
I have an existing pdf that fails to open on my ereader.
So I opened in acrobat x pro to see what might be the cause.
Selecting "file"--> "properties" -->"font" ( fonts used in this document) I can see that this pdf uses multiple windows trueType fonts and that none of them are embedded in the pdf document.
Now my ereader is linux bases, so I am guessing this might be a problem.
Being an ereader I didn' give me much to go on.
So i would like to embed all the fonts listed in this list into the pdf file and save it again with the fonts embedded.
I went to "file"-->"save as optimized pdf" -->"font"
But there both lists embedded and unembedded fonts are empty.
Why is this and how can I embed the fonts shown in the document properties into the pdf?
They seem standard windows fonts like e.g.  ArialNarrow

I just looked a bit furder and actually checked wether the fonts existed and found the following:
    I am using windows vista.
The fonts mentioned in the properties of the pdf actually exist in the windows installed fonts but
in windows they are no longer TrueType but OpenType.
So I am guessing this might be the reason they are not in the list of unembedded fonts in the optimizer window.
Is there an easy way to say to acrobat to replace one font ( not found on this computer) with another font that does exist and also to embed that font in the pdf document?
