Need alternative to Dreamweaver CC

I've been using DW for many years now and building great dynamic web sites for clients and employers. Now, with DW CC, we loose all those tools for building dynamic web sites! Yes, I know that I can get those depricated tools back for a little while longer, but that doesn't help when I need the tools themselves to be updated.
I've spent the past week trying to come up with a way to use PHP and SQL Server 2012 to build a site. Purchased DMXzone database connection tool and it worked but it failed... I can't use it without spending a small fortune to purchase more of their extensions and if did, it wouldn't provide the same easy development experience I enjoyed before someone at Adobe decided to abandon us.
So, anyone know of a good alternative? Microsoft has stopped development of their Expression Web 4 and I'm not going to get behind another tool that will soon be useless.
Very Frustrated with Adobe...
Pete

Hello Teodor and thank you for responding. I am very frustrated with Adobe and Dreamweaver and probably should have held off posting until I cooled down but that doesn't change anything and you deserver a reply.
I am not a programmer. I've spent the past 20 years designing and building online training materials using other tools, outside of Adobe, but have used Dreamweaver frequently to build database driven web sites to help on large projects.
In my current job I am a technical writer and write the maintenance manual for the airplane my employer makes. I told my employer that I could build him a tool using Dreamweaver and SQL Server to track a complicated process in our company. I've done this in the past for other employers using, what is now, older technology. Unfortunately at the time, I didn't know that Adobe has decided to stop supporting general web development that included database connectivity. While reading some blog on Adobe.com about the "update" in DW CC, they mentioned DMXzone. I went to your site and thought it sounded like just the thing.
I didn't realize that your tool set is broken up into so many smaller pieces and told my employer I needed no more than $200 to purchase the one extension I thought I needed. I puchased the DMXzone Database Connector PHP and installed it. Of course, it immediately made the necessary connections and all seemed great. That is why I said it worked.
The very first page of this wonderful site I promised requires a form with a drop-down menu where the user selects their name. I spent several hours trying to figure out if I could populate that drop-down menu with the results of a query prepared with the DMXzone Database Connector PHP extension. I figured out how to build the query and see the results I expected. But couldn't figure out how to get it into the dropdown menu item. That is why I said it failed... I couldn't get what I needed with just that one extension. Looking back, I think I was expecting this to magically enable all the database tools in DW that I was used to. As I said, I am not a coder but with the right user manual that included examples, I could make this work. Your manual didn't cover this specific subject.
If I am wrong about how I tried to use the DMXzone Database Connector please let me know. If I am not kicked off this project, I will eventually need to be able to do this one task along with many others. But I don't know how many other extensions I would need to purchase. I didn't even see that you had a 'package' deal on your web site until after I encountered the first message from the Database Connector saying that I needed another extension to make a repeating region and to format the data. I also need to write updates to the database and I'm guessing I will need another extension for that. I really wish I had known this before purchasing the first extension because I would have told my employer I needed a larger budget.
I spent a lot of time looking through the manual but didn't find what I needed. Why does everyone seem to think that videos and screen captures are all we need to understand a new piece of software? I am well aware of how much work it is to write a comprehensive user manual with lots of examples and background inforamtion. If you want to pick up the ball that Adobe has dropped, I think you need to write a "Missing Manual" sort of document to go along with your tools. Hey, need a technical writer to help with that? :-)
Thanks,
Pete

  • Alternatives To Dreamweaver's Version Control

Are there any free/open-source alternatives to Dreamweaver's
FTP version control? I have too many issues with Dreamweaver
(cumbersome code editor, laggy/slow interface, dangling .LCK files,
random crashes, memory leaks, clunky non-standard file browser) to
make it worth my while to continue using it. (Of course, this is
just personal preference -- other people in my shop don't mind it
at all.) My workplace is currently married to Dreamweavers FTP
interface (_notes folders and whatnot for "locking" files) and I
need to be able to check-out files so that they show up as
checked-out on other people's Dreamweaver installations. Changing
our version control system is out of the question, unfortunately.
I'd love to use SVN. Oh well!
Are there any workable alternatives? I'd appreciate any leads
or ideas you might have. I'm also interested in plug-ins for
    open-source development environments like Eclipse.
    Thanks in advance!

Do you mean you want to move a website from PC to Mac or Dreamweaver from PC to Mac.
As far as I'm aware you can't move Dreamweaver from one platform to another.
You can move websites built on the PC in Dreamweaver to a Mac or vice-versa.
All you would do is copy the websites site root folder onto a mobile storage device like a memory stick or portable hard drive or cd. You could even email over the site folder to the other computer if its not that bigger site.
Once onto the other computer (which presumably has Dreamweaver installed) all you would do is define where the site folder is located>Site>New Site>Give it a name> browse to the folder and select it. Thats it!

    Geoffrey,
A site can be made in any program and imported into DW.  DW simply allows one to edit HTML/CSS/etc, and organize all site files within the application.  I think that was the confusion in Nancy's response of what you meant by certified. But to further what Nancy said, Spry has been openly discussed by Adobe and is no longer being developed ( http://blogs.adobe.com/dreamweaver/2012/08/update-on-adobe-spry-framework-availability.htm l ) so your clients are actually setting themselves up for a bad situation especially if they go to upgrade their software. The same could be said for the widget browser.
I'm assuming since this client is not doing the job themselves, that they might not have the resources to keep making manual updates on the backend in Dreamweaver. Might it not be worthwhile to propose to them that you outsource developing a site in a CMS like a Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla, Pyrocms, Perch, etc, etc. (the list goes on). Then they wouldn't even need DW to make changes to the website and the website would be programmed into the system so all they would need to do is add/remove options from the backend as necessary not interacting with the code. And from the looks of it, this is not a site that is going to be overly dynamic or need to be updated a lot so templating for 2 pages on a CMS would be fairly easy work.

If you do not get a more specific answer you want here, consider the following.
    (1) If your iSight works properly (and reliably) with other Macs, you may have found a problem with your MacPro rather than your iSight. If so, a new webcam may not fix your problem.
You can try any relevant suggestions from How to test your iSight to ensure it is functional to see if you can track down and fix your problem or determine that your MacPro needs professional service.
To assure you meet the considerable speed called for in iChat 4 System Requirements, be sure disconnect or turn off all other devices on your LAN while you test your broadband speed and troubleshoot.
Especially if you are using other Firewire devices or third-party AV software with your external iSight, pay particular attention to possible conflicts mentioned in the testing info. Even if you can get your iSight working properly with your MacPro, you may wish to use a USB cam for iChat if you must have Firewire devices that conflict with your iSight connected while you connect for video chats.

  • Learn CSS or try alternative to Dreamweaver

I'm on CS2. I went to CS5 but could not do any of the multitude of basic things becuase I have never learned CSS.
The last version non CSS that works on Mountain Lion is CS3 but it sells for over $300 used.
So I either need to get a cheap copy (anyone have one?), or learn CSS, or use an alternative.
How many hours of  time is needed to learn CSS to make CS5/ 6 fluid and easy?
Any other softwares that are cheap and would be very similar to DW, without the need for CSS. thanks!

It matters little if you use a $25 or $500 editor, you must know CSS basics to work on modern web sites.  The burgeoning mobile & tablet market demands it.
CSS doesn't take nearly as long to learn as you may think.  A few hours at first.  Not months or years like Spanish or French.  And the more you use it, the more you learn about it.
My advice is to open one of the pre-built CSS Layouts in DW and look at  the code comments.
File > New > Blank page > HTML > Layout...

  • I need help with Dreamweaver.

I had purchased Dreamweaver CS5-5 version 11.5 last year for my Mac X 10.8.3. Working on several web pages did just fine. I did not use Dreamweaver for the last 4 months. I do pro bono for four sites and they had not given me changes until yesterday - 05/07/13. So I opened Dreanweaver and loaded what I thought was the current pages to the web site I wanted to work on. Surprise!!! What uploaded on Weaver was old pages of the same site I did several years ago. The current pages were not there. They are current on the internet.
I have chased all over Adobe, the internet, reloaded Dreamweaver, tried to download from the internet the current pages through FTP to no avail. I find it extremely difficult to find someone at Adobe - a real person in the USA that speaks English - to help me out. I was shoved from one place to another. I finally got a real person in the last hour but he was from India. He wanted to take control of my computer. This was not to be done. I had PC's for 20 years. A Phillipino took over my PC in 2011 to correct some problems and froze my hard drive. The computer was trash after that. This is why I have a Mac.
All I want to do is to make some changes to the current web sites I am the web master for. I spent over $300.00 for Dreamweaver and it should not be doing this.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Nancy O.
I am at a point that I thinking about dropping Dreamweaver. I feel that I should not go through all this.
I do not understand Dreamweaver as much as you do. Being that now I do not work with it frequently.
I just know it was simpler before.
On first using Dreamweaver I just downloaded it from the CD and went about my business. As stated this was up until four months ago.
For the amount paid for this software I should not have all of these problems. I should have bee able to do my work as before.
I am the type that needs everything written to understand what to do. In college I took tech writing. That taught me to explain everything in detail.
A lot of the software instructions could be better written. Just a rant on my part. (I find this in many assembly instructions)
I have not done your latest yet. I will try if I can understand what you suggest.
At this time I really don't want to do anything.
    As stated - frustrated.

  • Need alternatives for my code...

    Hello experts,
I am currently modifying a code where it seems it doesnt pass the data to be fetched into the variables v_usnam and v_ppnam. I checked BSAK table and there is a data on it. Anyway, when I tries to remove the AT NEW statement, it worked. But I need an alternative for AT NEW. Below is the code guys. Thanks you so much...
    AT NEW belnr.
          CLEAR: v_usnam, v_ppnam.
SELECT SINGLE usnam ppnam FROM bkpf
            INTO (v_usnam, v_ppnam)
            WHERE bukrs = p_bukrs
              AND belnr = it_bsak-belnr
              AND gjahr = it_bsak-gjahr.
        ENDAT.
        it_alv-ppnam = v_ppnam.
        it_alv-usnam = v_usnam.

If you don't want to declare an entire addtional structure as I told earlier, you can try this too.
    DATA: l_index LIKE sy-tabix.
    LOOP AT it_bsak.
      l_index = sy-tabix.
      AT NEW belnr.
        READ TABLE it_bsak INDEX l_index.
        CLEAR: v_usnam, v_ppnam.
SELECT SINGLE usnam ppnam FROM bkpf
                                  INTO (v_usnam, v_ppnam)
                                 WHERE bukrs = p_bukrs
                                   AND belnr = it_bsak-belnr
                                   AND gjahr = it_bsak-gjahr.
      ENDAT.
      it_alv-ppnam = v_ppnam.
      it_alv-usnam = v_usnam.
    ENDLOOP.
