Need another installation disk

Dear Fellow Mac users,
I cannot find the installation disk that came with my MBP. Unfortunately my HD is corrupt and requires repair. I cannot proceed to repair it without an installation disk that came with my MBP.
I need answers to the following questions:
Can I create an installation disk using a DVD from my MBP?
If yes, then how do I do it?
If no, then how do I get another installation disk?

The DVDs that came with your computer have got a special Mac OS X version that can only be used with your computer.
You have a Mid 2009 MacBook Pro that originally came with Mac OS X Leopard. As you upgraded to Snow Leopard, you can use the Snow Leopard DVD to reinstall OS X. If your computer already came with Snow Leopard, you can use the Snow Leopard retail DVD > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
If you want the second OS X DVD too, call Apple to get replacement discs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 They will send you the DVDs that came with the Mac

  • Repairing disk with another installation disk??

My startup disk is almost full so I tried to repair disk in Disk Utility but only 'verify disk' was available, which led to the following error message: "This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk." I have recently moved countries and cannot seem to find my installation disk anywhere (stupid, I know). Is there another option, such as using someone else's installation disk (since nothing is actually installed from the installation disk in this process, right?) or does it have to be my own installation disk? It is an old MacBook (2007), running OSX 10.6.3. Thanks in advance!

Okay so I got my hands on another installation disk, inserted the disk and restarted the computer while holding down the 'c' key. But when the computer started up an error message appeared saying "Mac OS X can't be installed on this computer. If you want to restore from a Time Machine backup, click 'Restore from Backup.'" When I started down that path of restoring from my time machine backups it warned me that everything on my startup disk would be wiped, and that seemed like a bad idea, so I backed out of that process and am now not sure how to proceed. I have read that with OS X newer than 10.5 I should be able to do it via wifi, without having to use an installation disk...?

I have the Toshiba recovery and Application cd /drivers satelitte a130/a135 series windows vista home basic 32 bit CD but it won't start Window.  It also said something about  winload.exe . It sounds like your recovery discs may be bad. You might need to order new recovery media or have your laptop serviced.

  • Need a Installation Disk

I inherited a Mac 10.4.9 however I did not get the disk. I don't know the password and need to reset it, but I need the disk. Where could I get one from or is there another way to reset this password without it?

Hi seshch26, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Is this a password required to log in, or to install things?

Once you've done that the computer reboots and it's like the first time you used the machine. Your old accounts are all safe. From there you just change all other account passwords in the account preferences!

  • Do I absolutely need an installation disk to install Windows 7 to my Macbook Pro?

I just got a Macbook Pro. This is the first time having an Apple product other than an iPod. All I know is Windows, so I want to try out Windows 7 on it.
My question is: Can I just download a copy of Windows 7 instead of using a disc? I don't mind using a disc, but I can get a large student discount on it as a download. It does not give me an option to ship it to my house. I haven't been able to finde a yes or no answer, so I'd like to know before I shell out 150-200 bucks or downlaoding something that won't work.
    Any help is appreciated.

You can but Win7 on disk for $100 (Home Premium, Amazon) or download the ISO, but burn the ISO at 2X speed to disc before you attempt to install it.

Hi: Here is the support and driver page for your PC.  Select the W8 operating system, and the last item on the page is a link to order recover media. http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-p6-2300-desktop-pc-series/5295969/model/5296962 If for some reason that link doesn't work (some forum members report that it doesn't on some models), then you can call HP at this number and see if you can order the disks by phone... 1-(800)-474-6836  If HP no longer sells recovery disks for your PC, you can order a set from this non-HP vendor. http://www.computersurgeons.com/p-23882-windows-8-64-bit-12na3rr8601-supp-v2-recovery-kit-d2v50av-for-hp-pavilion-desktop-pc-model-number-p6-2327c.aspx

  • HT4561 Install OS 6.8 without installation disk

I need to wipe my MAC Pro clean and do a fresh OS install before I put it up for sale. I don't have any OS installation disks. The current OS on the system is 10.6.8. How can I do this?
    Thanks guys!

You cannot do this without having the Mac OS X installer from which to boot. Unless you made a copy of the installation disks to another drive, you will need the installation disks. You really should provide them with the sale in any case. If your Mac shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.x, you can call Apple support and ask to purchase a new set of the install disks. If your Mac came with an earlier version of Mac OS X, you can order a retail copy of 10.6 from the Apple Store.
    Regards.

  • Lost administrator password and installation disk

I never took the time to set up FireVault or time machine on my macbook and always used automatic login when signing in as the administrator and forgot the password. My instellation disk is no where to be found. Is there any way to recover or set up new password for my administator account? Also, when ask for my password, the account just says "Administrator" and not my actual name. Is there anything that can help me keep my files if I do have to restore my laptop and would I need another instellation disk?

    Hello,
You're really going to need the installation disk in order to reset your password. A local AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) or Apple Retail Store Mac Genius would be able to help you reset it.
To find a local AASP then look here: http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service.html
To search for Apple Retail Stores look here: http://www.apple.com/retail

  • Need early 2006 iMac installation disks, which ones?

I need to know which SPECIFIC installation disks came with or are usable on a 2006 iMac. I wiped the computer before knowing my MacBook OS X Tiger disks wouldn't work on the iMac. So I either need to purchase new disks as the computer I inherited did not come with the disks or can anyone help me figure out how to get the OS back on the computer?

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html Another resource:  International Support Phone #s.

  • Help - need Adobe Creative Suite 4 Web Premium Mac OS Installation Disk 2

    Hey there,
Hoping someone can help me out on here. I recently moved and purchased a new computer and went to reinstall CS4 only to find that I am missing installation disk 2. As Adobe no longer supports the media for this, they reccomended that I contact someon ont he Adobe Forums who might be able to assist.
Just need the Application Disk 2 for the Mac OS of CS4.
    Thanks!

Contact Adobe Technical Support. Installation problems for current versions of the suites and applications are resolved without charge. Despite the fact that 16MB of video memory is beneath stated requirements, it is unlikely that this particular shortcoming is what is causing your problems.

  • I need to use an hp 6215 printer with my mac book pro.  the driver installation disk doesn't work.  where can i get a driver that will work?  i use OS X

i need to use an hp 6215 printer with my mac book pro.  the driver installation disk doesn't work.  where can i get a driver that will work?

With the Lion it is essentially unnecessary to resort to external driver disks. What's more, most of those disks are incompatible with the OS and should not be used. The system already carries a wide variety of printer description files (aka PPDs, which is what modern printing systems use as "drivers") for a lot of brands. And there was an HP printer update just two days ago.
Just checked in mine and did indeed find that the HP OfficeJet 6200 Series, with or without Fax, is covered with the latest update.
So just go thru the motions of creating a proper printer instance:
Make sure the Mac "sees" the printer on the network.
System Preferences / Print & Scan
Click on the + button on the left column
Select the appropriate type of printer, will use IP for the rest of this
Select HP Jetdirect - Socket, default for HP network printers
Type the IP address or look it up
Name the printer for easy identification on the print dialog
Let the Mac identify the printer model or manually choose the driver
    Click Add.
Once the instance pops up in the list, can click on Options & Supplies for further config.

    Hi,
For normal computer, we only have Windows 85, 98, XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and now Windows 8.1. Probably you need a recovery discs set for your machine. Please call HP technical support: 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please click the link below to get the support number for your region.
