Need archives earlier than previous backup.

Hi Experts,
Here i want to share and to know the reason of one situation.
DB Version :10.2.0.4
OS Version: Linux
I'm preparing Standby database from RAC database(PRIMARY) ----> (STANDBY) on ASM.
I have taken backup of database on 25-DEC-2010
taken standby controlfile backup on 26-DEC-2010
i restore the database on 28-DEC-2010 and i found some archive gaps after staring MRP process.
I have archive retention of 6 days. so as per retention i have all the archives in primary.
But when i check alert log file, it was requesting for archive which was generated on *01-DEC-2010*... ]:) i have checked completion_time of archive from v$archived_log
I got some basic information. can anyone post your views...
Thanks

  • I need pictures from a previous backup!

When I updated to iOS 5 all of my music would not work. Therefor I restored my iPod to a previous backup from almost a year ago. This previous backup didnt have a lot of my pictures so I wanted to restore to the newest back up but before I could do so my computer with that account crashed and would not start up. I have the hard drive from that computer and am going through all of the files to find those pictures. Does anyone know how to locate these files?????? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

K so can you tell me if this is right?
    1  F:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\
2 then copy the folder named "Backup" FROM THE OLD HD
    and Put it in the
    C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\
    OF MY NEW HD?
3  then i will sync my ipod to the laptop i have never synced it to before (a popup says: this ipod is already set up with another library [the library on my old hd] and can only be synced with one. what would you like to do. Erase and Sync, or Transfer Purchases?) <----- what should I click here?
then I will restore my iPod to the necessary update from
    that folder under \MobileSync\
All my pictures should be there?
Please tell me if I am correct so I dont perminantly lose my data and pictures?
And Lastly THANK YOU ALL SOOOOO MUCH really.

  • Time Machine wants to do a full backup.  How do I point it to my previous backups so it will do an incremental backup?

I lost my wireless connection to my backup drive for a short time.  Now time machine wants to do a full backup.  It doesn't know that I have previous backups.  How do I point it to the previous backups so that time machine continues to do incremental backups rather than doing another full backup.

I did some more reading and I found that Time Machine would find the older backups once a new backup is completed.  The backup ended up being a little larger than previous backups (2.65 GB vs typical incremental backups of several MB's)  but when it completed, time machine updated the last backup time/date and the oldest backup time/date properly.  So I guess, I don't have a problem.

  • How to find out which archived logs needed to recover a hot backup?

    I'm using Oracle 11gR2 (11.2.0.1.0).
I have backed up a database when it is online using the following backup script through RMAN
    connect target /
    run {
    allocate channel d1 type disk;
    backup
    incremental level=0 cumulative
    filesperset 4
    format '/san/u01/app/backup/DB_%d_%T_%u_%c.rman'
    database
}The backup set contains the backup of datafiles and control file. I have copied all the backup pieces to another server where I will restore/recover the database but I don't know which archived logs are needed in order to restore/recover the database to a consistent state.
I have not deleted any archived log.
How can I find out which archived logs are needed to recover the hot backup to a consistent state? Can this be done by querying V$BACKUP_DATAFILE and V$ARCHIVED_LOG? If yes, which columns should I query?
    Thanks for any help.

    A few ways :
1a. Get the timestamps when the BACKUP ... DATABASE began and ended.
1b. Review the alert.log of the database that was backed up.
1c. From the alert.log identify the first Archivelog that was generated after the begin of the BACKUP ... DATABASE and the first Archivelog that was generated after the end of the BACKUP .. DATABASE.
1d. These (from 1c) are the minimal Archivelogs that you need to RECOVER with. You can choose to apply additional Archivelogs that were generated at the source database to contininue to "roll-forward"
2a. Do a RESTORE DATABASE alone.
2b. Query V$DATAFILE on the restored database for the lowest CHECKPOINT_CHANGE# and CHECKPOINT_TIME. Also query for the highest CHECKPOINT_CHANGE# and CHECKPOINT_TIME.
2c. Go back to the source database and query V$ARCHIVED_LOG (FIRST_CHANGE#) to identify the first Archivelog that has a higher SCN (FIRST_CHANGE#) than the lowest CHECKPOINT_CHANGE# from 2b above. Also query for the first Archivelog that has a higher SCN (FIRST_CHANGE#) than the highest CHECKPOINT_CHANGE# from 2b above.
2d. These (from 2c) are the minimal Archivelogs that you need to RECOVER with.
(why do you need to query V$ARCHIVED_LOG at the source ? If RESTORE a controlfile backup that was generated after the first Archivelog switch after the end of the BACKUP ... DATABASE, you would be able to query V$ARCHIVED_LOG at the restored database as well. That is why it is important to force an archivelog (log switch) after a BACKUP ... DATABASE and then backup the controlfile after this -- i.e. last. That way, the controlfile that you have restored to the new server has all the information needed).
    3. RESTORE DATABASE PREVIEW in RMAN if you have the archivelogs and subsequent controlfile in the backup itself !

  • 'IGN' doesn't work in firefox properly . For eg. you can't see previous reviewed games earlier than 1 month.

For eg. you can't see previous reviewed games earlier than 1 month.

Ok, I solved it now. The problem was the Adblock plus Add-on which blocked all facebook contents.
I just tweaked the filter to allow all akamai.net content, then it worked.
So to sum it up Adblock Plus was the reason why noting worked, I don't know why the videos crashed though, but this issue seems to be fixed, too so I don't have any other complains.
So what did I do to come to this conclusion?
    Disabled all Add-Ons
See if the problem still occurs
Activate Add-Ons one by one to see which one causes the problem
Look up why the Add-On is causing the problem and how to fix this
That's it. Thanks for reading my post

Need to backup and remove photo library from my iphone.  This library was previously backup on a hard drive that crashed.  So these photos are only in the photo library and not in the camera roll.  If I do a full backup, it only takes the camera roll.
So this is a 2 part question:
    1) how to I backup the Photo Library to my new hard drive (as the last one was unrecoverable but previously backed up)
    2) how do I remove the Photo Library form my phone (preferably after backup in item 1)
    Thanks, Janis

Since it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer.  As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you.  I'm sure you'll pay, however.
Let this be a very important lesson learned.
    Best.

  • Need a shell script to backup archive log daily

    Hi All,
We need a shell script to backup the archive logs daily after shutting down the concurrent manager and once the backup is completed, needs to start the concurrent manager through the script itself, if you have any ideas or sample scripts, please provide and help us.
The objective is to backup the daily archive logs with out any loss of data.
    Thanks,

I do not have a similar script to share, sorry. However, you may review the following links/notes:

I have my catalog "Back Up Each Time Lightroom Exits" checked, and always have. That means the catalog should have been backed-up and saved everyday, if not more than once on some dates. So with a a major problem now and needing to use the Catalog backup from last Friday, I go to my Lightroom Backups folder - and the most recent one showing not only isn't yesterday, it's OCTOBER 28 !?? Where the hell are the daily backups between October 28 and November 14?

Oh wow - JET LAG strikes agin - my apologies; I have located the missing weeks of back-ups. After getting home from a 30-day trip to Europe, I had changed the location of my LR catalog back-ups to an external drive, and forgot that I did that. I have found them, and all is good. Never operate Heavy Machinery without enough rest. Cheers

Do you mean if I go to edit-preference-device and delete all the recent backup except the older backup I want then it will appear when I select "Restore backup " ?

  • Archive Log vs Full Backup Concept

    Hi,
I just need some clarification on how backups and archive logs work. Lets say starting at 1PM I have archive logs 1,2,3,4,5 and then I perform a full backup at 6PM.
Then I resume generating archive logs at 6PM to get logs 6,7,8,9,10. I then stop at 11PM.
If my understanding is correct, the archive logs should allow me to restore oracle to a point in time anywhere between 1PM and 11PM. But if I only have the full backup then I can only restore to a single point, which is 6PM. Is my understanding correct?
Do the archive logs only get applied to the datafiles when the backup occurs or only when a restore occurs? It doesn't seem like the archive logs get applied on the fly.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the great explanation! So I can do a point in time restore from any time since the datafiles have last been written (or from when I have the last set of backed up datafiles plus the archive logs). From what you are saying, I can force the datafiles to be written from the redo logs (by doing a checkpoint with "alter set archive log current" or "backup database plus archivelog"), and then I can delete all the archive logs that have a SCN less than the checkpoint SCN on the datafiles. Is this true? This would be for the purposes of preserving disk space.Hi,

    ## Here make sense what I trying explain
    ## As I don't have backup of database before of my Last backup, all archivelogs generated before of my backup full is useless.
    ## Deleting what are obsolete in my env, RMAN choose backupset 40 (i.e all archived logs generated before my backup full)
    RMAN> delete obsolete;
RMAN retention policy will be applied to the command
RMAN retention policy is set to redundancy 1
    using channel ORA_DISK_1
Deleting the following obsolete backups and copies:
    Type                 Key    Completion Time    Filename/Handle

Do you really want to delete the above objects (enter YES or NO)? yes
    deleted backup piece
    backup piece handle=+FRA/dbhr/backupset/2011_11_06/annnf0_tag20111106t171521_0.268.766516525 recid=40 stamp=766516523
Deleted 1 objectsIn the above example, I could before starting the backup run "delete archivelog all" because they would not be needed, but to show the example I follow this unnecessary way. (backup archivelog and delete after)

  • How do I restore my iPad to a previous backup made on another computer (Mac)?

How do I restore my iPad to a previous backup made on another computer (a Mac)?
I made copies of the backup in the /mobilesync folder and put them on a hard drive. Now I'm in an endless cycle of restoring/syncing which keeps erasing data off of my iPad on the new computer (which is just a hard drive reformat...it's the same computer, technically, but in theory brand new after a hard drive formatting).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Normally backups are incremental, and you can only restore the latest. EXCEPT that a backup of an earlier version is archived, and the first backup of the new version is thus complete. You should be able to restore a 6.1.4 backup to iOS 7. Click the Restore Backup button. The dialog that comes up should have a dropdown where you can select a backup to restore. If the old one does not show up it cannot be restored.
However, since you appear to have a Mac, if you use Time Machine you can restore an earlier backup over the current one from your Time Machine history.
You can also back up to iCloud, even if you don't sync to it. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5262
One well hidden feature (for future use) is archiving backups. If you go to iTunes Preferences/Devices, right click on the current backup and choose "Archive". The next backup you make will be a competely new one, and the old one will be preserved and can be restored at any time.
