Need assistance placing files on Time Capsule

I am trying to move an iTunes library to a Time Capsule. Several computers are connected to said TC. One was used to set up the TC. One of the other computers is running OS 10.5.8 and is very close to running out of HD space. The thought was to move the iTunes library off the HD and onto the TC. I have been following the directions provided in KB article HT1449 but when I get to the point where I am supposed to create a folder on the external drive I cannot because the *New Folder* button is grayed out. I have tried accessing the disk via the FInder and also cannot create a folder (on this machine). If I attempt to access the disc and create a new folder as described using the machine running 10.6.2 (this is the one that set up the TC and uses Time Machine) there are no issues. Perhaps I have not set something up correctly or there are limitations as to what I can do with the second machine. Can someone please inform me of my error or why this might not be working?

I'm using the latest version of Leopard so it's a little different from what you described. But.......when I look at the backups, ( it does them hourly and I can choose any one from the last to the first) I can see directory folders but there is no indication of how I would restore them in the event of a loss of data.

  • I need assistance setting up my time capsule please.

Can't setup my time capsule.  Keep getting blinking amber light which means not connected to the internet.

We can likely help, but we will need to gather more information before we can begin to start the troubleshooting process. Things like.....
    1) What device that you have the Time Capsule connected to.........in other words, the make and model number of your modem....or....it might be a modem/router combination device as well.
    2) We assume that you have the Time Capsule connected to the modem with an Ethernet cable. Would that be correct? Have you verified that the Ethernet cable itself is working correctly?
    3) What operating system are you using on your computer to configure the Time Capsule?
If you have a Mac, and are not sure, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen, then click on About This Mac and post back with the OS X version number that you see there.

  • Can't copy files to time capsule

I need some help with my new 2TB Time Capsule.  I setup the time capsule and did my first time machine backup.  Now I want to copy over additional files to time capsule from my full hard drive on my iMac. When I drag files over the following message occurs "The item “FILE NAME” can’t be moved because “Time Capsule” can’t be modified."
I went into my aiport utilities -- opened up my time capsule -- went to disks -- clicked file sharing -- and the enabled file sharing box is checked.
Help! How do I move files to my time capsule.
    Thanks in advance

From post above: "Now I want to copy over additional files to time capsule from my full hard drive on my iMac"
I'm sorry for the confusion.  My device is called "Time Capsule" --- How do I remedy the error I am receiving?
"The item “FILE NAME” can’t be moved because “Time Capsule” can’t be modified."
This error occurs when I am drag a document from my iMac hard drive to my time capsule (which technically has another name).

  • Can't access files in Time Capsule in WIN7 64 Bit- says folder is empty

Hi there. I can't seem to access my files in Time Capsule using WIN7 64 BIT, it works fine as a router , i can see the time capsule online and how much space it's occupied, however whenever i click on it , it says folder it empty. I can access the files from OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard).
I tried to drag and drop new files into the Time Capsule in WIN7 , it copies/paste the files fine for a second and then disappear, and if i go back to the Snow Leopard i can see those folders again , so i am guessing i need enable some kind access/ file sharing option or whatever that allows the files to be visible. Has anyone faced this situation in WIN7 64 BIT ?
    Thanks

  • How to improve the speed for backing up files to time capsule via in hose wifi?

How to improve the speed for backing up files to time capsule via in hose wifi?

    via in hose wifi?
    Use a bigger hose??
    House??
Need to spell this out a bit more..
But speed via 2.4ghz to the TC is restricted by Apple to max 130mbps link speed.. much slower actual transfer.. latest TC and laptops can do 450mbps on 5ghz but you need to be up close.. so place the TC near the device using it.. and force 5ghz connection by using a different name for 5ghz network.

  • How do i transfer files from time capsule to new computer?

I recently lost my vintage Imac hard drive and to top it off, likely had a faulty OS. Good news is I have a time capsule, bad news is it is also suspected to have the faulty OS. The Imac is history and I currently have a macbook pro with Lion OS installed and now I want to retrieve all my files off the time capsule. I was told to simply "drag and drop" the files from time capsule to my new macbook. apparantly not so simple. I see the the drive in finder and a lonely folder which I am seemingly unable to do anything with. any suggestions?

Drag and drop is not the way to go. Run Migration Assistant, found in your Applications/Utilities folder on the Macbook Pro. Follow prompts to recover information from a Time Machine backup, and point it to the Time Capsule.
Note that the recovery will recreate your old user from the iMac. You will have already set up a user on the MBP, but the files will not go into your new user - they'll go into your old user. Once you log out, you'll see your old user appear as a login option.

  • How to restore mail files from Time Capsule onto a different machine?

My Macbook Pro hard drive crashed, and I want to restore my backed-up mail files from Time Capsule onto my Desktop Mac (iMac 27").  When I try to restore by opening Time Capsule with Mail already open, I can only see the current mail files on the iMac (not the backed up files on the MacBook Pro), even when I point to the MacBook Pro backup file.

    Hello there, AngryMario.

  • How to browse files in time capsule from outstate?

how to browse files in time capsule from outstate?

I presume by outstate you mean remote access ie from internet in a different location??
If so google for remote access time capsule.
It is simple if you have TC setup as the main router and a static public IP.
Just go to finder, go, go to server and type in AFP://IPofTC
The TC has to be checked to allow wan access and use a decent password as the security for AFP is poor.

  • Attempting to use Migration Assistant to restore a Time Capsule backup to a mounted partitioned drive?

Had a power surge and my Mac Pro did not fare well. Was able to boot from one of the drives in read only mode, so I did a Time Capsule backup of everything on the drive. Reinstalled Mountain Lion. Booted the computer up and am trying to use Migration Assistant to take the Time Capsule backup and restore it to the 1TB drive. When I use Migration Assistant, it says that there is not enough space on the drive to do the restore. I looked in Disk Utility and saw that the start up disk is another one of the 1TB drives with about 600GB used, therefore not enough space to do the restore. I want to restore to the original drive, but it says it is a "Mounted Partitioned Drive". Can I use Migration Assistant to restore a Time Capsule backup to this mounted partitioned drive?
Thanks in advance for any help - greatly appreciated.

I am not sure, never had to go there, I have multiple bootable clones of the system online and off, and a couple 1500VA/900W UPS units powering everything.

  • How to drag a file to time capsule???

How to drag a file to time capsule? I would like to use it  to store stuff like video and music, every time I try to drag a file in the TC it doesen't work ???

Mount the TC first by double clicking it in finder.
Create a new directory before you start copying files to it.
Do not forget the TC is not designed for file sharing.. it is a backup target for TM. It cannot back itself up nor can TM back up a network drive.. anything you put on the TC can be lost if it dies.. TC die regularly .. be warned.

Open the Airport Utility --> Manual Setup --> Disks --> "Erase". Select "7-Pass Erase". That will be sufficient.
