Need audio editing help

Hiya -
I've tried using de-ess filters on an audio file, manipulating the frequency, and about 100 other things, and I can't seem to get the quality to improve.  Any suggestions?  Email me at [email protected] for a copy of the audio file.
Thanks,
Kimberly

I asked about the microphone because I've found that a lot of the audio quality issues come from that end, not necessarily from Captivate.
The easiest way to determine if the mic is causing the issue is to try another microphone and see if the sound quality improves.
I have about five different microphones.  The best ones are USB.  The worst ones are headset mics that are intended for internet chat.  I find they very often are quite scratchy and have essing problems.
Are you able to get hold of a good USB mic from somewhere?  I suggest either a Blue Snowball, Blue YETI, or Rode Podcaster. I've had the best results with those.

  • IMovie Audio Editing help?!!!!?

    hi,
im trying to edit in iMove, but whenever i add music in the timeline (theres is no video yet) it appears as a little square, that expands as i add video to show waveforms, i want it, when i drop it in, to be a long bar with the waveforms so i can manipulate- just like it appears in final cut pro (i would use FCP but i am very bad with the audio editing in that and i enjoy iMovies simplicity) !! help please on how to do this!!!!

Add the audio clip AFTER video clip is in Timeline. I don't believe you can add an audio clip in an empty Timeline. I could be wrong, I've never tried it.

  • Audio Editing Help...Separating Tracks

I have seen multiple youtube videos where they are single view and have two to three separate audio tracks? I would like to know how this is possible as i need to edit a video with different audio? Im talking about editing audio like how imovie 07 in which you had two separate audio tracks that you can edit audio in.
    Thanks for youre time

It is possible to have a large number of audio tracks in iMovie 11. Maybe 99 or close to it.
Here is a [good tutorial from iMovie 08 that explains how it works.|http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/imovie08.html#audioclips]
With iMovie 11, you can still do all this, but you also have the Clip Trimmer view and the Audio Waveforms view.
As a hint, it is easier to work with multiple audio tracks when you drag them onto a clip, rather than dragging it into the background as background audio. In the video, they show this for sound effects, but you can do this for any audio clip.

  • I need audio editing and cd making software advice.

I have been using Toast 8 to edit audio tracks and make cds and have reviewed Toast 9. This software has a lot of stuff I never use and excludes some valuable features like pitch shifting. Does anyone know of a stand alone audio software that includes a good pitch and tempo shifter, a normalizer that actually works and saves audio tracks until you make your cd? What I am really looking for is a program that is audio only and very good. I have reviewed Sound Studio but am reluctant to try it because reviewers say its pitch shifter is poor. I need some advice.

I would recommend at least downloading the trial version of Sound Studio and trying it out. I work for Freeverse (the publishers of Sound Studio). I asked around, and there have not been any complaints about the pitch adjuster in the latest version 3.5.5, AFAIK. You can adjust the pitch and tempo independently.
The trial version is fully functional, and is only limited by the number of times you can launch the program (10 times).

If you do try it out, I'd love to hear what you think of it.

  • Audio editing help!!!

What is the best way to make an audio track which has very loud sections and very quiet sections to become a similar volume?
is there a way to do this automatically and quickly with any program?
so that any high volume sections of a track becomes quieter and low volume becomes louder?

Probably you need a Limiter rather than a Compressor: a limiter places a maximum allowed level (often full peak but you can reduce the overall level afterwards); you then increase the level of the entire recording so that the quiet sections reach this maximum, then the louder sections will be held down to this maximum. You need a fast attack and a moderate decay time (the time it takes to bring the quiet bit after a loud bit up again).
A Compressor will reduce level differences on a sliding scale: a gap of 10 dB between sections might become a gap of 5 dB (2:1) and a gap of 5 would become 2.5dB - not the same effect.
Normalizing specifies the level of the loudest part of the recording and adjusts the entire recording to achieved that, without affecting the relative levels of loud and quiet sections.

  • Lost the original Captivate project but have the SWF- need to edit- help!!!

I have lost the original captive project but have the SWF.  Is there anyway or anything I can use to convert the SWF file into something I can edit?

There is no way to convert an SWF to CPTX source file. Your best bet is to play the SWF and record it.

I need to get help... My Case ID: <edited by host>
My English is not good, please forgive me. But I need to get help
I purchased in China in March of 2t time capsule, can not open yesterday, which has important data.
China, Hong Kong Plaza Apple store genius to help me split out the hard drive, but I have no other large-capacity hard disk, there is no hard drive connected to the computer data lines.
I hope that the genius of the new time capsule give me that in China, Hong Kong Plaza Apple store, so I will transfer data from the old hard drive to the new time capsule in China, Hong Kong Plaza Apple store.
But genius manager: "Anthony Xu" bad attitude not only refused my request, has asked me to buy the apple store the backup hard drive data cable and a new mac computer! Even persecute me sign in confirmation!
Now, my hard drive in my hands, but I can not get data.
I contacted the Chinese 400 customer service, they could not help me. But they are eager to help me keep track of the entire event: <edited by host>
    Who can help me T_T

Sorry, but we are all just fellow users here and have no power to intervene or assist in this issue. You will need to try and work out a solution with the Apple Store or Apple Customer Relations. The only alternative, if I understand correctly that the hard drive from the Time Capsule is working and contains your data would be for you to purchase a case for the hard drive, mount the drive in that case, and recover your data that way.
    Regards.

  • Simple Narration Editing Help Needed

    Hello,
I am brand new to audio editing and SB. I have recorded a narration. There was a little bit of background noise and the peak levels were a little too high (going into the red a little too often). I selected a piece of the background recording where no narration exists and used the "Capture Noise Print" in the Clean Up Audi0 - Noise panel to get rid of the background noise. Then I "Equalized Volume Level" to take care of the peaking problem. However, now the voice is a little on the tinny side. Can anyone suggest how I can get rid of that tinny sound and bring back the richness? Or perhaps a tutorial?
Any suggestion on how to record with proper levels would be helpful as well.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    I have the same problem.
Did you ever figure this out?
Using the Effect Fix:Remove Hiss seemed to work better, but there is still a significant amount of background noise when no one is talking.
It did seem to help to set the Noise -> Reduction value down to 30 or so using the Preview and Green switch to hear the difference.
I'm still looking for the best workflow to cleanup a group discussion setting and would appreciate anyone else's experience.

  • I edited a movie on iMovie but when i try to upload it to youtube only half the video shows ( its only 3 minutes long) does it need converted? help?????

i edited a movie on iMovie but when i try to upload it to youtube only half the video shows ( its only 3 minutes long) does it need converted? help?????

I have the same issue.  If you are exporting from iMovie version 10.0.1, I run into the same issues if I export directly to YouTube or if I export to file then upload to YouTube.
Google's help file doesn't properly address this problem and thier help is also out of date.  In talking to a support rep at Apple, they said the export to YouTube should just work or the exporting to a file then uploading otherwise it's an issue for Google support.
If someone can post a solution that works (is a streamable format - which is different than the format that YouTube accepts as it will accept many formats but take a long time to process them), I'd be interested to hear also.
    Thanks,
    Rob.

  • Need Audio Help - USB External Speakers

    This should be fun!
Need Audio Help!  My USB external speakers are recognized in Garage Band Preferences, but NOT in System Preferences. (I use the audio interface, US-144 Tascam)
    Which means:
I can only play my speakers using Garage band and not iTunes.
They were working in both iTunes and GB many times before.
I see that others have had problems losing their external speakers after updating their iMac.
I've called Apple for assistance (no help)
    Changed the order of connections
    I've shut down again, again...
    Help please

Open System Preferences/Sound and select the USB Speakers as your Output device
If that doesn't do as you expect, or you need to tweak them, run Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup and select them there then adjust the Format and Volume etc.

  • I just started up with my IPod, I download music to my library and I accidently changed the artists name in an entire category.  I can't figure out how to undo it. I read the edit help stuff but I can't select the item I need to edit

I just started using my IPod and I downloaded my library.  I accidently changed the artist names for an entire genre category and I can't undo it.  I read all the edit help stuff and I either can't select items to edit or I'm an idiot and I can't figure it out.  I keep trying and I get a pop up that asks me if I want to change multiple items.

Did you ever resolve the iCloud problem.I am in the same position and its driving me mad!!! If you have a link to an solution I would appreciate it.

  • Audio Editing Problem- Help!

I've been having problems with audio editing in iBooks Author.
I edit a track I'm using across a text, editing just the portion I want played, and it all works fine in the program, when I move it over to iPad for testing, it won't play the right part I've confirmed is working fine in the program itself, instead it seems to revert in every audio link to the last portion I put into a link.
    Hope this makese sense.

I'm not sure your problem is exactly like mine, but it pertains to placing the audio in a widget in ITA (itunes author).
The issue to look out for is we took our video and audio clips into our layouts to publish and apple validator rejects the audio clip saying the "audio is outside of the widget." and creates an error code. It seems to accept the video fine, but the AAC clip has been run through QT, or iTunes or Compressor and we still get the same error code.  I' thinking there's a bug.  So ours runs fine on the ipad, but won't validate.  Like I said, maybe not your same issue, but the audio in a widget is a little buggy unless I'm overlooking something.  Let us know how you work your problem out.

  • Audio cable help for the new AppleTV.

Audio cable help for the new AppleTV.
Currently I have an original AppleTV with audio RCA plugs to mini plug into my BOSE speakers.
The 2nd Gen AppleTv has a Toslink input. I've looked at cables of Toslink to optical mini. Will this cable work? The optical mini part I'm not sure of what it is.
Thanks so much. The monitor I use doesn't have speakers.
This is the cable I see at Amazon

If I understand your question correctly, you want to connect your Apple TV2 to your Bose system using a mini plug.
You will need an optical to digital coax RCA converter (find it on Ebay about $15), then you can connect your mini cable. Here is a link to one I recently bought on Ebay: http://fwd4.me/nrQ

  • How do I get the Codec for Adobe Premiere 6.5?   I have old AVI files I need to edit in a Premiere Elements 9 program.

I have older AVI files from Premier 6.5.  I need to edit them in Elements 9, how do I get that old codec?

Thank you for your response.  When I said I had tried Camtasia, I meant that I had tried to import the files into Camtasia.  However, Camtasia,  like Premier Elements, will NOT allow me to import these older Matrox AVI files into their editing programs.  These older Matrox AVI files will playback fine in a program I downloaded called "GomPlayer",   Today I discovered that GomPlayer allows me to view the properties of the clip, and they are pasted below.  Hopefully, with this newer info, it will help me with my capture sistuation.
    Thanks again for your help.
