Need Audio Help - USB External Speakers

This should be fun!
Need Audio Help!  My USB external speakers are recognized in Garage Band Preferences, but NOT in System Preferences. (I use the audio interface, US-144 Tascam)
Which means:
I can only play my speakers using Garage band and not iTunes.
They were working in both iTunes and GB many times before.
I see that others have had problems losing their external speakers after updating their iMac.
I've called Apple for assistance (no help)
Changed the order of connections
I've shut down again, again...
Help please

Open System Preferences/Sound and select the USB Speakers as your Output device
If that doesn't do as you expect, or you need to tweak them, run Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup and select them there then adjust the Format and Volume etc.

  • Please Help My External Speakers Are'n't Working

I am using a powerbook g4 (titanium) and OS 10.4.10. For some reason, my headphone jack plays sound when I plug in headphones but not when I plug in my speakers. Bought new pair of speakers and they still do not get sound ( Is this a coincidence?) I even bought i-mic for using the usb port and I still don't get sound from my external speakers. I've reset the pram and made sure the audio/midi settings are correct. This is too strange....Please someone help.

Sorry, I meant aluminum powerbook not titanium. Also, my headphones work when I plug in the i-mic but not the external speakers.

  • USB External speakers

My wife got her new toy a few days ago and we notived when plugged in usb powered external speakers in it he sound still comes out of the speakers on the computer itself and no thru the external. Now some of the buttons work though like can control the volume from the external speakers.
We are new to apple so wondering if we need to turn something on in system directory.
We have tested the speakers and work fine on my windows laptop.. Its a logitech.

Open System Preferences/Sound and select the USB Speakers as your Output device
If that doesn't do as you expect, or you need to tweak them, run Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup and select them there then adjust the Format and Volume etc.

  • T520 audio output to external speakers

I am trying to connect my new T520 to the external speakers I had used with my deceased desktop, and I don`t want to cause any damage!
The speakers (subwoofer and 2 small speakers) were connected to a lime green jack on my desktop.  My question:  can I use the earphone jack of the Lenovo for that connection ?  I assume so, just want to make sure...
BTW, the sound coming from the portable is simply abysmal....
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yes.  You can plug the green speaker plug into the headphone/audio out jack.  It will work fine.
You can adjust the volume of your speakers in Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Realtek HD Audio Manager.

  • Lion audio dropouts with external speakers?

Since I installed OS 10.7.3 (upgraded from 10.6.8), I get audio dropouts whenever I use external speakers.  I use my Mini (purchased a year ago in Feb 2011) connected to my TV for Skype, Netflix, and listening to iTunes, so this effectively eliminates my ability to use it.  I don't get dropouts if I use the internal speakers, and it doesn't seem to matter whether I'm using iTunes to play something resident on the internal hard drive or watching something on Netflix streaming over wifi, or whether I have wifi or bluetooth on or off.  The external speakers are run through an HDMI cable connecting the computer and the TV.

Updates applied, at least one of which caused reccurrence of my audio dropout problem (I'm guessing iTunes is the culprit):
    iPhoto Update 9.2.2
    GarageBand Update 6.0.5
Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.10
    Application Loader 2.5.1
    Safari 5.1.4
    iTunes 10.6

  • Help with external speakers please

Just bought an HP G62-457DX.  I plugged in my external speakers and got a message that confirmed it, but I don't know how to make the sound come out of those speakers instead of the built-in one.  Can someone help?  Thank you.

  • No audio in an external speakers.

I am connecting MacBook Pro to a flat screen TV, using DVI/HDMI cable. I am getting good video but no audio. In the system preferences/Sound/Output, the only option I see is "Internal Speakers". How do I get audio from the TV speakers?
    I appriciate your help.

To my knowledge the Displayport to DVI adaptor does not carry sound.
Your best bet is to run audio out from your mac to the TV's audio in.
note that this can be either analog, or optical as the ports in newer macs combine both functions.

  • Audio Pop to External Speakers

    Hi,
When I have my MacBook plugged into external speakers I get a random "pop". Its usually when I have had iTunes playing for a while and close iTunes to go to something else. Sometimes it pops, sometimes it doesn't. I've tried it on different speaker, and have heard it on other speakers.
I've read that their was an audio update for 10.4 with regards to an audio pop when going into sleep or shutdown, is their any patch for 10.5? Has anyone else had my described problem? Is it normal?
    Respectfully,
    AJ

This issue is discussed at length in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1394839&tstart=90
Note that one of the contributors has produced some freeware which (apparently) solves this problem.

  • No audio output from external speakers

can hear through ear buds but not through the external speakers
anyone had similar problems and can advise please

I bought my iPhone 3G Sept 28th. Up until a few days ago, I was able to play the Ipod through my the external music speaker on the iPhone. All the sudden the music stopped playing through the external speaker. The only way I can now listen to music is to plug in the earphones.
I've tried plugging and unplugging the earphones about 10 times, resetting the iPhone, resetting the iPhone through iTunes, blowing out the headphone plug with a can of air, etc. Nothing is solving the problem.

  • Dull audio quality in external speakers

I purchased HP Mini 110-3606tu. Installed Windows 7 starter edition. Installed all drivers from www.hp.com.
The inbuilt speakers have quality audio output, but headphones which i connect produce sound as if some low pass filter is applied on the sound before outputting. I goggled about this on internet and found a solution on ehow.com but that site says that audio drivers for XP have this problem. If I install audio drivers meant for vista this problem will be solved. Although i already installed drivers meant for windows 7 still i gave it a shot.. But Vista drivers wouldn't install. Somebody please help me on this!!

Have you tried installing this Audio driver which is for Windows XP?

In case you havent, make sure you uninstall the drivers which you have currently installed before installing above one.

  • No Audio Playback through External Speakers

Audio Meters indicate audio is playing. Mute is not engaged. "Canvas Playback" is checked. Perhaps the problem is in the setup, where it indicates that "Playback Output Audio" is sent through Firewire DV. My speakers run through USB, not Firewire. However, the only way I can access setup is through "Easy Setup" which gives me no option to change audio output to anything other than firewire.

The audio will not go out via USB. It will only go to the internal speakers or the speaker jack or go out via FireWire.

  • Need Audio Help!

Hi - I just upgraded from Captivate 1 to version 3. I am
trying to (very quickly) update a project that I created in
Captivate 1. When I try to add audio, there is a slightly hissy,
staticy background noise that wasn't there before. Also the audio
is louder (I can deal with that though). I am using exactly the
same setup, microphone (Logitech), computer, and recording room and
position that I was using before when I recorded it the first time
about 2 months ago. Any ideas???????? Thanks in Advance,
    Alden

I have recorded in Captivate and recorded externally and
imported the file. I just find it saves a lot of time if you can
record direct into Captivate. Of course, this is only viable if you
can capture quality sound that doesn't require hours of editing to
eliminate noise or other glitches. For me, better equipment has
    made all the difference.
Depending on how much recording you plan on doing going
forward, you may want to invest in some better equipment. When I
first started with Captivate 1, I bought one of those awful
logitech mics for $30. It wasn't until I used a real microphone
that I realized how bad that mic was. So, I'd ditch the Logitech
    mic.
You'll be amazed at how clean Captivate can record audio if
you have a good sound card on your computer and if you send
Captivate a good clean signal from a pre-amp. Get a decent mic (I
use an AKG Perception 200, but a Shure SM57 costs about $100 and
works great.) Get a pop-filter ($15-20) to eliminate p's and other
harsh consonants and use a decent mic pre-amp (I use a Presonus
Firebox) From my experience, bad sound has little to do with
Captivate, and lots to do with computer sound card, the quality of
the signal you send in and fine tuning sound level input (to avoid
    distortion).
    Hope that helps.

  • Audio dip with external speakers

Has anyone noticed the Macbook Pros will control their analog audio output only when the computer has software requiring audio?
    Here is my example:
My Macbook Pro (mid-2010) has an audio cable from the headphones into a splitter. The splitter is also connected to a universal dock (charging station and speakers for my iPhone) before running to a pair of Harman/Kardon Soundsticks II. When nothing is playing on the laptop (or it is not connected) the sound from my iPhone is loud and clear. The same happens when the laptop is connected, but no software is outputting audio. This has always worked fine with my aluminum C2D MBP.
But, with the unibody, if my iPhone is playing music, and I open software requiring audio, such as Quicktime, the audio from the phone suddenly dips to near inaudible levels to clear way for the Macbook Pro. What I believe is happening is that the MBP turns off the output, leaving the lines clear for the phone. But when software activates the headphone port, it charges the line with its own signal and conflicts with the phone. The reason it wasn't a problem with the aluminum MBP is because the audio line was always charged with both signals, so I could balance both outputs and the speakers to sound good. With this new setup, I can't ever balance or gauge levels.
Has anyone else observed evidence of analog audio being controlled by the computer?

I'm not able to understand from your description what your setup is, or why you've arranged it that way. Please clarify.
