Need Audition help / Advice - Audio Noise

I have this project I'm working on and I am new to editing audio in audition.  I clearly have a lot of noise in this audio track, but I'm not sure what effects to use or how much to use.  The main problem seems to be a constant hiss, but there are other problems.  When I use the noise reduction effects it seems to create more problems.

Well, first off, the best advice is to cure the noise at its source before recording.  There's almost always a curable cause for noise and hiss and it's much better never to have to use noise reduction.
However, on the assumption that you have a bunch of material you can't redo, there are ways to improve the performance of Audition's noise reduction (which is one of the better ones out there before you spend thousands on specialist stuff).
First, I tend to use "Noise Reduction" rather than Hiss Reduction even if I perceive the problem as hiss.
Second, find a bit of the track you're working on which is just the hiss without any other sound mixed in.  You can generally do this by zooming into an area at the beginning or end (or even between words).  Hit the Capture Noise Print button.
Then, Select All to work on the whole track.
However, don't try to get rid of all the noise at once or you'll get all sorts of nasty artefacts.  Instead, turn down the Noise Reduction slider to a relatively low number, definitely below 50% and preferably in the 30% range.  Turn down the "Reduce by" slider as well to maybe something like 10 or 15dB..  Then apply the reduction.
At this point, repeat all of the above.  Capture a new noise print then adjust and perform the NR.  Basically, you'll get much better results doing the noise reduction in a number (say 3 or 4) small chunks.  Make sure you keep the original though (use Save As on the noise reduced copies) in case you go too far or get something wrong.
If you're still not happy with results, try again, raising the FFT size (on the Advanced menu) and varying it between takes.

    Hello Adviser /expert,
    Need a help / advice & guidance whether to switch on my Career in SAP-PM from core industries after spending my 09 years of experience in Core field that to in Maintenance.
    As now i m thinking to do SAP-PM certified course from authorized SAP partner in India that to Pune.
    So any one can suggest authorized SAP partner in India that to Pune.
    My introduction (About myself): - I had done my Diploma in Mechanical and had total 09 years of experience in Mechanical Maintenance field that to in different manufacturing company such as Steel, Auto Ancillary & Cotton plant.
    Whether its right decision to change my career from Core sector to SAP-PM..??
    Is there very good scope in SAP-Pm for me after 09 years of Core Maintenance field..???
    Guide me
    Warm Regard
    Ravin

    Ravindra,
    SAP PM is very niche Module, very in demand module, at the same time, being niche, getting into it and getting 1 implementation is also difficult.
    your decision of joining SAP authorized training is the best option, as a certified consultant, you have more chances to get a break as fresher and you can continue working on it, else it would waste of your intellectual energy.
    you just search sap.com training or email them or chat with them, they will give u the training center details,
    but very less training classes are available. Try you will get lucky soon

  • Need your help, advice, critique-

    Hola
    I just finished my wife’s site using ONLY CSS !!!, no tables, and this is the first time that I have done that.
    Most of the site is CSS, and I only used flash –an audio widget that I love, because it’s so easy to create—in one page.  Lots of DIV’s, maybe more than I need, “classes” etc.  I also --made—the blog, which was one of the hardest things for me.
    Now, I'm asking for your ideas on how I can make it better.
    If you have a suggestion, critique, if you find errors (maybe lots of them) ways to improve it, please let me know so I can grow.
    This website could not be created without your help. I asked you many times for your help in making this possible, so in a way,
    this is OUR WEBSITE.
    Here is the link: http://sanctuary4humanity.com/

  • Need Real Help & Advice With Replacement MBP Options!

    Hi All,
    Please kindly give me some advice as I need to act quickly - I already have a MBP 15" 2.4 Unibody replacement agreed by Apple only last week (replacing a Intel 2.2 GB MBP) but I am pretty sure that the Senior Customer Services Person I spoke to was not aware of any due upgrade as he was very helpful and probably genuinely did not know. In view of the new models announced, should I stick with this or ask for the new 2.53 version which is actually cheaper and therefore I am somewhat hopeful they should do (or would they now generally offer me the new one?) Can any of you kind folks also please tell me:
    1. What are the advantages/disadvantages between the old 2.4 Unibody MBP & the new 2.53 Unibody MBP?
    2. I know the new one comes with an SD card slot and loses the Express Card Slot but is the loss of the latter a big thing? Can the old one with the use of card readers actually shift data from the MBP to a SD card (or any other) via card reader/device? Is Express Card or SD Card Slot more desirable and better utilised?
    3. I think the newer one has less better 9400M integrated graphics - is that true and how big a deal is that? (I plan on downloading and watching lots of HD content) Is it better to go for the dual 9400M/9600GT graphics
    4. I know the new one can be upgraded to 8GB of Ram which sound really good for future-proofing and general super-smooth running purposes so I guess this feature is really important? I guess it can take 4 x 2GB sticks?
    5. Some have stated that they are very happy that the new ones have Firewire back but was that also not on the old 2.4 one?
    6. How big/good/bad a thing is it to have a non replaceable battery even though in theory, it may last longer?
    7. The new version makes a big deal about the screen - is it a good reason to upgrade or as good as they make out?
    8. Are the Hard Drives on these latest versions user-replaceable/upgradable? (250GB is still a little low for my future needs and I was planning to upgrade to a higher capacity).
    9. As I am not a savvy as most when it comes to this sort of stuff, is there anything else that I have not considered/should consider or have taken into account and which may prove to be be of significance in the future?
    10. Is it safe to assume that the newer model may be better as it may have had bugs or issues the old one may have had ironed out?
    11. Because of the better graphics and larger Hard Drive (320GB), I am also inclined to go for the 2.66 model - how should I best proceed if I choose this model - will they likely give me one (or better still, how can I best wangle one!) or is it possible to offer to pay some money to make up for the difference and what would be considered a fair and reasonable amount?
    I am very sorry to ask so many questions but I need to act fairly quickly on this one and would be extremely grateful for the help and input!
    Many Thanks To All!
    SB!

    Hi,
    Thanks for the help so far - I know the HD is replaceable on the 2.4 MBP but can you confirm that this is also the case with the new 2.53/2.66 MBP's?
    Yes. I can confirm that.
    Do you have any further thoughts regarding the benefits of the new over the old?
    I am a big fan of the unibody MacBook Pros. I had purchased mine in October 2008. I could easily purchase a new one with out a second thought. They are exceptional machines.
    OLD - Better Discrete Graphics, Express Card Slot, Replaceable Batteries, Upgradeable HD, Poorer Screen, RAM limited to max 4GB
    NEW - Poorer Integrated Graphics, SD Card Slot, Better Screen, Upgradeable RAM to 8GB, Fixed Internal Battery but with Longer Life, Unsure if HD is User-Upgradable
    The batteries can be replaced at an Apple Store at any time. The hard drive can be upgraded by the user. The graphics are still very good.
    Anything else I might have missed? I would like to choose the one that offers the most future-proofing and will operate the best when running Snow Leopard and Windows, HD Material and will cause least performance issues!
    Check out the requirements for Snow Leopard. http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html
    You cannot go wrong with a unibody MacBook Pro. Leopard runs on Macs that are 10-years old. Whatever your choice, you will be "future proofed".
    Good luck!

  • Pl/sql parameter portlet - need some help/advice - how to create

    I want to create a pl/sql portlet that accepts a parameter and on submit passes the parameter to other portlets (sql reports) these are then automatically run to display the new data.
    E.g.
    parameter portlet = deptno
    On submit
    Sql reports then refreshed using the parameter
    I am aware, and have tried the mycompnay demo, which works exactly as I want but the parameter portlet cannot be amended and is written in Java.
    I need a pl/sql equivalent so I can tailor the code.
    Any advice examples or guidance would be really appreciated.
    Thanks in anticipation.
    SD

    Hi,
    You can use a form portlet to accept parameters and then call a report in the success procedure of the form. In this example it calls a report with the value in the flightno field.
    declare
    flightno number;
    blk varchar2(10) := 'DEFAULT';
    begin
    flightno := p_session.get_value_as_varchar2(
    p_block_name => blk,
    p_attribute_name => 'A_FLIGHT_NO');
    call('SJDEMO30.report1.show?p_arg_names=flightno&p_arg_values='||
    flightno);
    end;
    Thanks,
    Sharmila

  • Need some help/advice please

    Hi,
    I am trying to fix a friends computer. She has a MS-6385 m/b but the keyboard does not work. When trying to boot to ME. you just hear clicks when pressing a key.
    If I boot from a W98 disk, I get a beep on each keypress. The CPU seems fine as it will load the W98 boot disk OS.
    I was going to try a PS2 to USB converter, but the manual implies that the USB keyboard is disabled by default and I cannot get into the the BIOS to change it.
    So I am asking for any advice as to how and try to fix this, or should I just bin the m/b and try and get another socket 423 m/b with rambus slots.
    TIA

    Using my keyboard though a KVM switch, which works fine on my network, so its not the kbd. I reckon the ps2 connection has gone belly up, so I'm stuffed for a fix.
    Looks like I will need to get another board, I have found a 6339 board, which I might use or get the Asus P4t board.

  • Need some help isolating click noise

    ok well the click noise is back in my computer
    I took everything out and i still have the noise
    is it possible that one of the cables for the power button on the case is some how faulty?
    because the click noise im hearing sounds exsactly like the power button when you press and hold it in. only it makes the noise in an infinate loop.
    but it dosn't allways make the noise im totally at a aloss its driving me crazy whenever the noise happens my computer lockups

    Hi
    Only 3 things that I can think of doing.
    1. Check that nothing is touching underside of Mobo at top RH side, under the KB, USB or IDE controller, no raised ridges on case. What happens if you loosen screws when its happening ( very carefully)- (forget I said that).
    2. Unplug KB and mouse PS2 connectors and see if it stops.
    3.  Look in the EVENT LOG and see what is happening just prior to freeses, may point you in right direction, like faulty Vid or PCI card, Read/Write errors to disk, etc.
    Last thing may be an overheat problem, your running at stock, Yes?  No cables obstructing air flows. Does it happen with side off case?
    Cheers

  • Powerbook G4 just Died. Need some help & advice!!

    Hope there's someone out there that can help me. I was working on my titanium Powerbook G4 and it just shut itself down (no warning sounds etc at all) and won't re-start. There's no sound from it at all. Even the green power cable light has stopped working. But the little glowing white light at the front (on the lid release) is still glowing. I've tried removing the battery and re-starting but to no avail (although with the battery removed the lid release light still works!). It's just dead. No sound at all. Has anybody any ideas what caused this?
    Is it a hard drive issue? - I've had hard drives fail before but the machine usually tries to boot up but this PBook is dead. Deceased.
    Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Hi, Andy. If the sleep light on your Powerbook is in the display latch, the PB is Aluminum, not Titanium. There's another set of forums for the Aluminum models here.
    Have you tried resetting the Power Manager?

  • I need some help/advice about a CS5 invalid Serial Number

    I recently purchased a CS5 Master Collection on ebay. Excited to get playing with it, I started to load it right away. When the window popped up asking for the serial number I punched it in and it showed as invalid! I retyped it and again invalid! So I checked the disc and in the notetab text file the serial number there was different than the one I had typed in off of the instruction paper. I typed that number in and the CS5 loaded! HOWEVER, once the CS5 was finished installing and I started up any program the window popped again asking for the serial number! Also on the same window it says on the bottom to (click here) for trial version and the days count down!!!
    The seller claims that I'm not installing it right and says when not installed correctly it acts like a trial version!
    I have uninstalled and reinstalled it 4 times and I get the same results!
    Can anyone offer any comments, suggestions?
    I would greatly appreciate it!

  • Help with Audio for Premiere Project

    Working on a lengthy project and need some help with audio which is not my specialty!
    I am recording using a Sony EX1r and a wireless lav mic,     OK.  Here is what is happening.
    When I import the clip into project I get Audio from the left speaker.   If I burn a DVD and playback on home player with surround sound, I get audio out of just the left speaker which makes sense.    SO I go to Premier and use "Fill Left" which fixes the audio on my computer and get sound from left and right speakers.    The odd thing is that when I play this version back from DVD on the surround sound system, the audio now only comes from the CENTER speaker.  I dont get anything out of left OR the right speaker so it sounds hollow.
    I am sure I am missing something obvious so please be kind.
    Is there an easy way to get my audio to come out of Left, Center, and Right speakers (and rear for that matter) ???
    Thank you
    Ted

    Bill,
    The DVD player is a Sony BluRay and the receiver is an Onkyo AV receiver HT-R380.
    My thinking is that it is something that I am doing wrong inside Premiere vs something that the DVD player or receiver is doing.    My final product will need to play on a variety of DVD players so I need to get it right.
    It just seems odd that my default output DVD provides sound to the left speaker but then removes it when I fill Left.
    Am I setting up my audio tracks wrong?  Or should I being doing something with a 5.1 track???
    Thanks
    Ted

  • URGENT AUDIO HELP NEEDED!! Suitable audio filters

    I'm in desperate need of knowing what audio filters are good to reduce background noise for a film I'm making. I've got a basic DV camera that picked up a lot of wind the other day and I am trying to minimise the background noise so that I can pick up what people were saying.
    Does anyone know what audio filters on Final Cut Express are suitable for doing this?
    Cheers

    I have never found a way to filter out wind noise, and I don't think it is practicable. I think that the problem is that the frequency in wind noise is similar to the frequencies in most video audio, so you can't filter out the wind noise without damaging the rest of the audio.
    The only solution seems to be to shoot on a windless day, or use a very directional mike, and/or have a wind sock that is effective. (Unless soemone else knows a way.)

  • Need help with the noise reduction settings

    Hi,
    After som experimenting I need some help with the settings for noise reduction.
    I just edited and converted a few pictures from RAW (D200) til 8-bit TIFF. Opend the file up in photoshop and was shocked to see the amount of noise in the pictures. I then exported the RAW-files and did the same conversion in Capture One 3.7.3 - The result is a lot better regarding noise. In capture One I'm using the noise reduction step before "High".
    Can you share your experience with the optimal settings for best noise removal ?
    Thanks in advance,
    fbrose

    i use it once in a while, but i play around with the sliders in full screen mode and at 100% and then see what the sliders do. I don't have a definite procedure that I can suggest though.

  • Need help with audio...

    Hi,
    I need some help with an audio issue...a deep, buzzing sound which is so dominant, i can barely hear the rest
    the situation:
    older VHS tape (about 10 years) - i know some of you just cringed the video quality isn't the greatest, but not the worst. the audio is terrible.
    transferred with my canopus av300 to my mac (g4 d1.25) - no issues
    using FCP 4.5
    i tried the AUGraphicEQ and since it was so deep, i reduced the following to 0:
    800
    6300
    8000
    reducing anything else doesn't seem to work
    i've also tried cleaning in soundsoap both before using the AUGraphicEQ and after. If i clean it with SSoap before AUGraphicEQ, it sounds far better than the original track, but a low buzz is still present. using the EQ again doesn't seem to do much.
    the camerawork was done on a tripod about 30 yds back. no mikes were used either. just the camera capturing both a/v.
    Any thoughts on anything else to try? Any other filters? I fear the buzz is just with the main sound and no chance of completely killing it.
    I can email someone a small sample file for them to play with if you like.
    i'm really at my wits end b/c i would like to ensure i give the client as best i can (the other option would be to send the tape to a colleague's audio expert, but the price is something my client doesn't want to pay
    Cheers,
    Keebler

    Got SoundTrack Pro? It will perform miracles with getting rid of unwanted sound. It's a matter of isolalating a few frames of the sound where no one is talking, and then using a simple command to remove that sound by itself from the entire audio track.
    There is a possibilty that the Hum remover in FCP 4.5 might help...
