Need Autoplay DVD for cable TV broadcast

Using iMovie HD 6 and iDVD 6 to produce content to broadcast on cable TV. Need DVD without any themes or menu so automated cable equipment can turn on DVD deck at a given time to broadcast.
Drag iMovie to Autoplay tile in Map view. Need to create a basic main-menu screen without a Theme which shows credits for the production.
How does one create such a main-menu screen?

welcome WBWTANK to the  iMovie boards ..
asking for help on making DVDs.. shouldn't that question be posted to the iDVD boards.. ?

  • Need help editing for 14:9 broadcast -- what's the best strategy?

    Hi,
I work for a station which broadcasts in 14:9. I can cope easily with this when using full screen images by visualising, roughly, what will be lost on the left and right. But now I want to use split-screens and image collages using smaller, scaled down pictures, and want to be able to design the material precisely within a 14:9 frame so that none of the material is lost.
What's the best strategy for this? Is there a cartesian co-ordinate I shouldn't stray beyond -- or better, is there an easy way with a mask, perhaps, to show 14:9 within a 16:9 timeline. (I'll be editing with a 16:9 timeline). Can I somehow create two vertical lines to visually provide the limits of the 14 component of the aspect?
    Many thanks for any help.
macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Well, you could certainly create a mask in PhotoShop that is 720x480 wide, but has a 630x480 hole in it. Then bring it in and set its anamorphic flag and put it on the top Video layer to see a 14:9 window.
I arrived at 630 by multiplying 720x14 and dividing the result by 16...

The new Macbook Pros do not come with installation or operating system disks.
If you are using Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows in Mountain Lion, read and follow the installation instructions. Downloading the Windows support software is one of the first options in the Boot Camp Assistant memu. There is no Mountain Lion disk containing the support software.

I do not have a DVD of the software, nor do I wish to buy an upgrade. I can purchase another

  • Recently shot a 24min. short in HD.Fairly large file and I need to compress and burn to DVD.I realze I won't get HD on DVD,but I need decent compression for Festival submission.Any sample settings I might try?

Recently edited a short to 24min.in FCPX.It is 1920x1080 24fps.It is large and I want to send on dvd for film festival submissions. How should I compress in Compressor to have the best quality and get it all on a dvd.I realize I won't get HD,but I need it small enough for dvd retaining some quality.

The short answer is,  take a short but representative section and  "test" and "re-test" until you get the best results you can attain.
    Some further suggestions:
I assume that the festival specified DVD and that Blu-Ray is not an option.
The size of the file really doesn't matter to Compressor except that it somewhat reflects your movie's resolution and down-scaling from HD sizes to SD can introduce artifacts.
Start with the standard Disk Burning preset; duplicate it and save as custom settings; name them appropriately as you make adjustments so you can see at a glance what settings worked better or worse.
In Audio, set Dialogue Normalization to -31.
Don't judge the image quality on your computer. The Apple DVD Player may give you a rough idea of whether you have issues. But it's necessary to play out to a broadcast monitor or TV from a DVD player to see what it will truly look like.
Although it's possible that basic Disk Burning preset will give you what you want, I suggest turning opening Frame Controls (which should already be turned on) and setting the re-size filter to Best. You should also consider doing the scaling and the MPEG 2 encodes as separate steps (separate jobs).
The Encoder section of the Inspector allows you to adjust quality settings. You can test CBR and VBR settings at different bit rates. If VBR, use the Two Pass; the default bit rates are pretty good…you might be able to bump them up a little, but I wouldn't go above 8 Mbs.
BTW, how were you planning to burn them? If it's from Compressor, choose Hard Drive as Output Device to make a disk image. You can burn multiple copies from that disk image. You can also drag the Video TS folder into DVD Player to get a preliminary look at your results.
    Good luck.

  • I finally was successful in burning a CD of a slideshow I created in iPhoto, however, it is blurry. What is the best way to burn to a CD or DVD for clarity. Also, I realize if burned in iPhoto it will only be playable in iPhoto. Help! This is needed soon!

I finally was successful in burning a CD of a slideshow I created in iPhoto, however, it is blurry. What is the best way to burn to a CD or DVD for clarity. Also, I realize if burned in iPhoto it will only be playable in iPhoto. Help! This is needed soon for a wedding reception!

What version of iPhoto are you using?  How do you plan to view the slideshow at the wedding reception, on a TV screen?  If so then you will need to send the slideshow to iDVD and burn a disk from there.
If you're in iPhoto 11 and the slideshow was created in the slideshow mode and not from an album, then go to the Share menu and select iDVD.  That will create a QT movie of the slideshow and import it into iDVD.
In iDVD select your theme and setup the menu as you'd like.  If you want the movie to begin plahying immediately when the disk is inserted into the DVD player go into the Gallery mode and drag the movie into the Autostart  bin at the left.
If you want the movie to loop continuously go to the Advanced menu and select Loop.
When you're finished setting upb the iDVD project save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will allow you to check it with DVD Player before tryingto burn to disk.  Mount the disk imnage by double clicking on it and launch DVD Player and play.  If the movie plays as you want and everything is good you can  burn to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Need the AD Link cable for SB X-Fi and other models. Anyone have an unneeded one?

Need the AD Link cable for SB X-Fi and other models. Creative is out of stock & discontinued. Anyone have an unneeded one? TIA.

This will do it perfectly. http://www.cableyourworld.com/prodde...?prod=CYW-1755
I once swapped such a cable with the one supplied by Creative because I needed a few extra inches of length. Therefore my recommendation is no gamble, it is a certainty. The only reason I would anticipate failure is if the PIN 1 matching is not performed on both the sound card and I/O bay. I have also seen people turn the cable upside down as well.

  • ITunes 11 freezing while transfering music, and can't eject it, so I need to disconnect the cable, then iTunes works just fine and my iPod Shuffle is in restoring mode. I've been having this issue for weeks, and never had it before with iTunes 10.

iTunes 11 freezes and can't eject my iPod, so I need to disconnect the cable, then iTunes works just fine and my iPod Shuffle is in restoring mode. I've been having this issue for weeks, and never had it before with iTunes 10. Please tell me at least a way to eject it without losing all my data and being forced to format/restore the iPod.    I've got 2GB iPod Shuffle 2nd generation(:D)

As a test, shut down (power off) your computer and disconnect all USB devices including hub (except for standard keyboard and mouse if normally used).  If your computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so that it's not running on battery power).  Do this to reset the shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Start up the computer, run iTunes, and connect the shuffle to a direct USB port on the computer.  Does this problem recur when the shuffle is the only USB device?
If it does (as another test), select the shuffle in iTunes, so that its Settings screen is showing.  Check the box for Enable disk use, and Apply.  Does that make any difference regarding this problem?

Google MPEG Streamclip. It's free and works! This questions gets asked a lot. Take advantage of search when you can.

  • Do I need to buy a particular 10.5 Leopard DVD for my Power Mac G5

I have been having problems with my Power Mac G5, which can only be resolved by reinstalling leopard, and since I don't have the DVD, I have been looking for a 10.5 Leopard DVD for my Power Mac G5. However I have noticed that some discs say they only work for a particular kind of mac ( which is true, since I attempted installing leopard with a macbook pro dvd, which did not turn out well ). Do I have to look for a 10.5 Leopard DVD that is particularly for a Power Mac G5? If so, where can I find one?

Yes, Gray Install Discs, the ones that come with Macs are Machine specific.
    You need the Retail version.
Trouble is Apple no longer sells it, check eBay & such for the Retail version, not the Gray Discs...

  • I need an app for my Mac Pro to convert MP4 to MOV  format to play in a DVD player

I need an app for my Mac Book Pro to convert MP4 to MOV  format to play in a DVD player.  Thanks

    Quicktime can do this.
Open the MP4 in Quicktime Player. From the menu bar, File >Export > select quality. The subsequent file will be saved as .mov
Alternatively, you can simply change the extension on the mp4 file to mov since the codec is the same.
*I should mention that .mov format is not DVD format (TS_VIDEO), and the DVD will not play in a DVD player, even if you successfully burn the file to it.

  • I need to author DVD for both ntsc, pal,& different regions.Need some help

    Hey guys
I have a school project in relation with a company. We have to create many DVDs for there training courses. They train dogs and they need us to edit the video footage and author the dvds READY FOR SALE.
First off. I don't know at this moment but I believe that these dvds might need to be in both pal and ntsc format, maybe also in different regions. Therefore my first question is
    1. What format should I convert the video footage to, before I start my video editing, if I want to author my final edit to dvd?
--> Would it be mpeg2 min 6 mbps max 8 mbps because as I know that is the format for dvd. Or do you leave it as the native camera format eg DV.
    2. What frame size should I convert that original video footage to aswell?
    3. What things do I need to know regarding pal and ntsc formats. How do I prepare a dvd ready for both formats? What format do I edit in
    4. What do I need to know regarding doifferent regions, and how do I set up my dvd for different regions?
    5. Is there anything else I need to know before I start editing so I do get into any trouble later on?

dang itpowda, you killing me.. haha jk!
anyway, ok i see where you can be confused. hopefully this can answer yoru questions.
ok in the NTSC world, if you are creating a graphic file for exampe for TV, then you would create the file with a square pixel (PAR = 1.0 in this case) and your frame size will be 720x540 only because if you create it using the rectagular NTSC pixel, your image will look sueezed and you would have to resize the graphic anyway for TV because remember, you would be creating it on a computer monitor that has a PAR of 1.0 natively, although your DAR is the same, the PAR is not. now, when you have video in D1 NTSC, you would have a rectangular pixel (PAR = 0.9 in this case) and a frame size of 720x486.
ok, now PAL. once again, if we are creating a CG file for video on a computer, we can creat it using a square pixel and then resize it for PAL TV and the PAR in this case would be 720x768. the reason for this is because in PAL, the PAR is 1.0667, NOT .09 as in NTSC. both standards share the same rectangular pixel.
now for the DAR. lets assume we are talking about a full frame TV set for a minute. we know that both PAL and NTSC standards, although with different PAR (0.9 vs. 1.0667) have the same DAR (in this case 1.33:1 in decimal form which you obtain from dividing the ratio (whole number) first number by the second). you have to remember we get the DAR of 4:3 assuming that it is a FF picture because the image on the screen takes up 4 units wide to 3 units high. in PAL or NTSC this is true, regardless of PAR. the differences in PAL and NTSC come from the refresh rate, PAR, frame rate and color space to name some and keep it simplistic.
i hope that is somewhat clear. now, to answer your questions:
First thing. If PAL and NTSC both had a PAR of 1:1, they would both have a DAR of 720*540, true?
nope, if you have or want a PAR of 1:1 (to create CG files), then NTSC would be 720x540 and PAL would be 720x768.
the rest of your questions are pretty much false :P
now, you might be wondering, HOW N THE HECK DID HE GET THOSE NUMBERS!
ok, lets say you need to create a CG file on a computer, but want to keep the PAR right (remember, if you create said file with a frame size of 720x576 and a DAR of 1:1, your image will be squeezed a bit) you have to take into account a specific formula in video needed to do such and many more conversions!
let me show you how i obtained 720x768 for a PAR of 1:1...
we know we want to keep the width the same, since we are creating a image file for the PAL video.
lets get some numbers straight first:
    width = 576
DAR = 4:3 (or 1.333 in decimal form)
    so it would be 576 * 1.333 = 767.808 OR as a whole number 768.
how did i get the above formula:
i know the DAR of my input (from 4:3 video), i know the PAR of my ouput (from a 1:1 CG file) and i have my height from video (576). so the unknown variable in this case is the width.
so it would look something like this:
    width = 576 * (4/3) / (1/1)
ok, we know that we want to convert the ratio of 4:3 and 1:1 into decimals (makes it easier to work with mathmatically).
when we do this, we get:
    w = 576 * 1.333 / 1
we know that when you divide a number by one, you get the same value back, so for simplicity sake, lets take the sole 1 out, since it doesnt matter because 1.333 wont change in value:
    w = 576 * 1.333 = 676.808 or when you round up to the nearest whole number, you get w = 678!
as long as you have the 3 of the 4 possible variables for the above formual, you can mathmatically get the variable you need.
    i am exhausted, i need a beer!
    Mikey M.

  • Do I need to buy extra cable for my macbook pro 2011 and cintiq 12WX?

    Hi every one,
I want to buy a cintiq 12wx for my macbook pro 2011 and just wondering if i need to buy extra cable to connect them together. Thank you very much for your responses.

For output from your MBP, you will need to tap either the DVI, mini display port or Thunderbolt port, depending on its age/model.  This will connect to the cintiq 12wx via whatever input configuration that they have.  I do not know if they supply and cables or not.  If it is a VGA input, there are a multitude of adapters available.  OWC or Newegg would be good sources to get the proper cables or adapters.
    Ciao.
