Need both Instant Portal & Discoverer Gauge Portlet

Could anyone tell me which version of Oracle Application Server I need to install in order to use both Instant Portal and Discoverer Gauge Portlet? Thank you very much.

http://<hostname>:<port>/discoverer/portletproviderFor example:
http://myhost:7778/discoverer/portletproviderTry to access the provider test page using the above URL. If you can access it, register it with your Portal as a Web provider.

I do not have the discoverer guage portlet listed in the portlet repository. I searched for it and the only 2 options are worksheets and list of database workbooks.

How to Remove the "Analyze..." link from Discoverer Gauge Portlets

Is there a way (a hack, even?) to remove the "Analyze..." link from the Discoverer Gauge portlets? Or, can we redirect that link to point to a different Discoverer Worksheet?
As a work-around, we're using an HTML portlet below the gauge to link where we want to go, but the "Analyze..." link is still there, so it's confusing to the end user.

Instant Portal import to Portal Environment

Hi
I have created a Instant Portal to handle the training content navigation functionality which was shown to the client for review. This Instant Portal was created in my environment which also hosts the Portal which I am developing. I have tried to access the Instant Portal as a Portlet as I requested that it is created as a Portlet also. At present this does not work as I get an error
ERROR wwv_settingsdb.GetSettingsSetName: No data found
Now I have since read up on Instant Portal and it seems to state that I need to Export and Import the Instant Portal into my main Portal. I am progressing this but as they are both in the same environment and owner do I need to export and import the Instant Portal ? Can I not just reference the Instant Portal from main Portal ?

Instant Portal and normal Portal page groups cannot be mixed and matched, you can only use one at a time in the browser. You cannot export and import into the same instance and expect any new behaviour.

MISTAKE DELETE NEWS PORTLET OF INSTANT PORTAL MAIN PAGE

I do mistake delete news portlet of instant portal main page,
So I add portlet "News & Announcements" from Portlet Repository ,
But I can't find this portlet in Portlet Repository,
And How can I add "News & Announcements" portlet back to my instant portal main page ?

I went ahead and tried the script you mentioned to add the News Portlet to the home page but it failed.
Just to try something different I added a placeholder item which worked.
What follows is the output that the script produced when I tried to add the
News Portlet.
Any ideas?

Gauge Portlet aren't deployed

Hi
I have a demo with OAS 10g R2 with Portal and Discoverer. In my server the pages are displayed without problem. but in my clients the pages are showed but without gauge portlet graph, the discoverer reports are displayed without problem. The discoverer viewer don't display anything because don´t find the server, but the portal page is deployed.
Do i need some java plug-in or something else.

One thing to try would be to turn page cacheing off. I have had a similar problem, and pressing refresh after each change you make is slightly annoying. Despite the warning in portal, it doesn't actually slow performance down by too much.

How to put Romanian Language into Instant Portal editor

I have installed Instant Portal. The default site has been created in Romanian Language. But how do I get the Instant Portal generated text items such as (Rich Text item or Expandable Rich Text item) ? When I logon I get the login Screen in Romanian Language (as my Browser runs romania and accept romania as the primary language) so it seems that part of the product supports Romania.
After creating a new Instant Portal using the Portal Builder the NLS characters (ăîşţ) are shown as squares. I respect steps that are documented in the "Working with Languages" topic of the Oracle Instant Portal on-line help and I can't use Instant portal in a Romanian Language.

I am able to copy and paste the Romanian page titles into both the rich text and expanded rich text items and have them render the same. Could you answer a few more questions to help diagnose the behavior you are observing? What is your browser language set to? Have to tried setting the portal session language to Romanian using the Set Language portlet, instead?

I can add these to the page but i get
"This portlet has not been defined. The publisher must define the portlet by clicking on the Edit Defaults icon of the portlet in edit mode or by clicking on the Edit Defaults link below._
When I click on Edit Defaults then I get -
There are no public or private connections available. Please go to Oracle Application Server Control to create public connections or Discoverer Viewer with SSO enabled to create private connections.
What am I doing wrong?

Problem with the nodes in Oracle Portal using JPDK Portlets

Here in Production environment we have 2 different Portal Servers
Even if logged in with the node 'b' then also the images path showing path from node 'a' only.
Note:
The thing is both the Portal servers are sharing the common portal repository.
We are using JPDK Portlets with Oracle Appserver

Does anyone know how to modify an existing report with sub labels within the main report? I am trying to resize one of the labels.

Copying instant portal application from onemachine to another machine

Hi,
In my first machine I have installed Oracle Application server 10.1.2.0.2 and upgraded Portal successfully to 10.1.4
and I created a Portal Application using Oracle Instant Portal.
now i have the same scenario of Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 along with its repository and Portal installed on my second machine and also upgraded Portal successfully to 10.1.4
Now how can i backup the Portal Application that i created in my first machine and install and run it in my second machine.
what i want to know is can we copy a Instant Portal application from one application server machine into another application server machine without having to re-create the entire instant portal application?
Can someone guide me please.

Actually we are not mapping machine name something in webutil.cfg file. We just need to specify the path that from where we will transfer the file from application server to client. And the time time of transfer the path you will
choose for client webutil will transfer the file on that location automatically.

Is Instant Portal a preview of the future direction of Portal?
How do OIP and Portal coexist? Is OIP designed to be separate from Portal (even thought it is built with Portal)?
Is there a documented method to build additional oip custom item types or new oip portlets?

Oracle Instant Portal is an application built on top of Oracle Application Server Portal, and helps to get smaller organizations and departments get a portal up and running quickly with little development effort. It is not a preview of the future direction of Portal, but rather, an example of an application built with Portal.
Oracle Instant Portal is an Oracle Application Server Portal page group with custom item types, templates, etc. A special UI template invokes JavaScript code in the middle tier that interacts with XML returned by the custom item type procedures to give the rich UI and in-place editing experience. Instant portals created using the Oracle Instant Portal portlet must be acted upon through the Oracle Instant Portal user interface, and not through the native Portal product. This ensures that the objects are configured as expected for Oracle Instant Portal to function properly.
Oracle Instant Portal is designed to be used as is, out of the box, and is not extensible.

Instant Portal login.jsp

We are looking at Oracle's Instant Portal product which seems to do what we need except as this system is to be used solely internally the project manager has decreed that no login is required (Instant Portal requires an authenticated user and does not support public pages). So unless someone has a better method I have been working on modifying Oracle's default login.jsp script and hard coding a read only users username and password. These works but the user still has to press the submit key. Is there a way to auto submit this page? Is there a better way to achieve this? Note I have never used jsp so a simple example script would help.
I have check out some of Oracle's SSO doco but there is a lot to learn and the project manager is not going to give me the time I suspect he will just choose another product. So I am hoping for a quick and simple solution from the forum.

Can you elaborate on this 3rd Party Integration Module you are suggesting. You are correct that in addition to the read only user access some other means is required to access the system using a more privileged account. I had intended to create two separate logins, the first being the default one with the read-only username imbedded and the second would required a username and password.

You can use DBD::Oracle but you will need to use a 32-Bit Perl. The default Perl is 64-Bit. It is pretty easy to get a 32-Bit Perl up and running with perlbrew.

Instant Portal Review.

As I am looking at it I will start posting an evaluation of the Instant Portal App as I see it. Note these are only first glances of what I encountered in the Get a fully functional portal running in an Hour
First, thing I notice is the lack of a public face. I see two posts in this forum on the same subject. This just makes no sense. There really should be a way to include public content. Along the same lines, the aging and workflow of Portal was not used.
Second, the banner should be more customizable. There are probably only 1/2 a dozen ways to create a top banner. You should be able to select from a couple of style.
Examples:
Left Image Left or Center Title.
Search and login in banner.
Breadcrumb trail optional
The Banner should be able to have an image background.
The template should let you set or select the Title Font
You should be able to select between 1 and 2 levels of tabs on top, perhaps more, but at least 2 levels. Why Two? A person may want to have Departments be the top level Tab Then each department can have their own Page with Top level tabs. I suppose their answer is have a separate Content Area (Separate Instant Portal) for every department. But then departments could not see new content across departments in one place.
A link to the Tab Home should be on top of the Left Nav Bar. Right now if you click the Finance Tab, then Budgeting to get back to the Finance information you have to click the Finance tab again. This is inconsistent as the visual cue is that you ARE on the Finance Page already.
Should be able to Hide ITEM information like Title date author summary from being displayed on the page. You can set it to an empty string but then you may loose valuable info just because you do not want that displayed. EG I would like to see who posted an RTF in the New Content window but I do not want to see that Joe Posted the Corporate Home Item for the next two years?
File Item Image is not very useful and kind of hidden. You should be able to select an Image so you could show pdf, word etc. Probably need to add a file type specification.
RTF Item and HTML Parser incomplete (or to limiting). I pasted in a web page with an image and the image had a MAP. Everything looked great except the MAP did not work. So I pasted the map info into HTML Edit but every time I clicked over to RTF edit it would remove the map. Just as a check I went to builder and made the update directly to the Text Item in the Page. This worked perfect and the MAP works Of course that is until you edit in Instant Portal and it strip the MAP out again. I assume there is a larger undocumented set of Valid HTML code that cant be used in the RTF editor?

RTF Editor changed to:
<image src="o.jpg" width="558" height="397" border="0" >It seems kind of dumb to arbitrarily limit or take a subset of valid HTML code in the RTF items as the RTF item is probably the only way to really customize and make useful content.
A feature for end users to export/ print RTF content to Word or PDF would be a nice to have
So far it is OK but not really useful. It may take as it says a day to build a portal but it is not fully functional and by the end of the week it may be so limited that you are going to have to scrap it.
