Need brief tutorial on moving music library from iphone to imac

Have a large iTunes library on my iPhone. I want to migrate all of it to our new iMac (Intel using 10.7). I have two accounts on the iMac, mine and my wife's, which have been set up to share the music (iTunes) library. When I sync my iPhone into my account on the iMac in order to sync the music library it gives me a message that if I sync the music all the items on the iPhone will be replaced with the music library on the computer. However, there is no music library on the iMac as yet. How do I get the iPhone music on the iMac so my wife and I can share the library?

It's not just your media that will suffer if you switch computers, you app data, contacts etc are at risk too. Unless you are unable to do so you should migrate your exisitng library the device syncs with, or a backup of it, to your new computer. This is much easier than extracting content from the device. Otherwise...
You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • Moving music library from on computer to another

can i move my music library from one computer to another, and then move the library back to the original computer? if so, how is it done? please help!!!!!!!

Hi Jessica, and welcome to discussions!
...and then move the library back to the original computer?
No need to do so, if you just copy the library. [Edit]: But it would be possible if necessairy.
Essentially you'll have to move (or copy) all your audio files to the new PC, then import them into iTunes and - if you want to keep your playcounts and ratings - copy the "iTunes Library.itl" from the old computer to the new one. This file is, and needs to be, located in the iTunes folder within "My Music". Make sure iTunes is not running while you manipulate the library file.
The easiest way to accomplish this is via a local network between your computers, but you can also use your iPod. Click for further info: MacMuse, "Computer Crashed" #4, 11:49pm Feb 7, 2005 CDT
Hope that helps, feel free to post back if you have any questions.

  • Moving music library from one computer to another

I need to rephrase my question: Is there a way to transfer my itunes library from one computer (that is being discarded) to my new computer that already has an itunes library on it? we have a new computer that my son put his library on, but we want to combine our libraries and use just the one computer to sync our music on each of our ipods. Thanks.

You can copy the music directly from the iPods. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

  • How to transfer music library from iphone 4 to iphone 5.

I cannot figure out how to transfer the music from my iphone 4 to my new iphone 5.

If iTunes purchased content, you can simply re-download it directly on your phone. For non-iTunes purchased content, you need to get it in your iTunes library, then sync it to your phone. If not already in your iTunes library, you'll need third-party software to extract it from your phone:

  • Moving iTunes Library from iPhone 3G to MacBook Pro - Help Please

I bought my first MacBook Pro last Summer and have since bought a second. Problem is, my iTunes library is on my company Dell Latitude 620 and my iPhone 3G. How do I get the library to my MacBook Pro?
    thanks!

If your iTunes library on your PC at work includes music and video that was not purchased from the iTunes store, you need to transfer your iTunes library from your PC to the Mac that you plan on syncing iTunes content with. This can be done with an external drive, or with CD/DVD media.
If all or most or all of your iTunes library on your PC at work includes music and video that was purchased from the iTunes store along with 3rd party apps, iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store only.
If you haven't already done so, you need to authorize your Mac with the same iTunes account with iTunes that is used with iTunes on your PC at work - with the Mac that you plan on syncing iTunes with.
With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.

  • Remove music library from iPhone

Any way to delete the music on my iPhone so I can do a fresh new connection to iCloud.

All you need to do is adjust your sync settings on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings, this time choosing "Selected playlists..." (rather than "Entire Library"), check the playlist you want on your phone, then sync your phone again.

  • Moving music / data from iPhone to iTunes

Hard-drive burned up and has been replaced. Most music was backed up, but not all. And most of the new music (that hasn't been backed-up) is on the iPhone. But I can't copy the files on my iPhone back to my new hard drive. Obviously there are security measures to keep folks from transferring files all over the place. But it seems that if it's on my iPhone, I must have obtained it legally, and there must be some accommodation for a dead hard drive.
Same question for my iPhone apps. I'd rather not pay for apps twice, and iTunes won't let me copy them from my iPhone back onto my 'puter. As soon as I sync apps, they'll all disappear, unless there's some way to convince the phone that it's looking at the old, pre-burned-up-hard-drive.
    OS X 10.5.8, iPhone 3G with 3.1.3
    Thanks!

File>Transfer Purchases sort of worked, but not completely. I have about 600 songs on my iPhone, and it copied about 200 of them to my new hard drive. I have music purchased from iTunes, music copied from purchased CDs, and free downloads (Starbucks, Paste, etc). And there's no trend in what got copied and what didn't. Some of each category was copied, but not all. Very confusing that I can't find a pattern.

  • How can I manage music library from iphone

Is there a way to manage playlists (i.e. add a song purchased from iPhone) from the phone, and have it sync via WiFi to iMac?

Not from a standard feature from the phone.
Alternatively you can install a remote desktop like.. TeamViewer 7 and remote desktop the computer..
But it would be alot easier to do it on the computer..

  • Moving music library from one account to another

Quick Question....my wife put a bunch of music on our I mac but on my account. I would prefer to keep her stuff separate like music and pics. Does anyone know if you can simply transfer the libraries music and pictures that she has put under my account to her user name

Are you referring to a Mac OS X user account, or an iTunes Store account? If you're referring to an iTunes Store account, there's no way to transfer a purchase from one iTunes Store account to another. If you're referring to a Mac OS X user account, though (presuming that you each have your own separate iTunes libraries), just copy the music from your OSX user account to hers. You can do this in several ways, but the easiest is probably to just drag the music files to the Users -> Shared folder (you can drag them right from the iTunes window), then log into her user account and drag the files into the iTunes window. Once you're certain that the tracks have copied successfully and play in iTunes, you can then delete them from your iTunes library.
    Regards.

  • Can I import my music library from pc to imac using a flash drive?

I copied all my cds into my pc itunes library years ago. I just got the new imac and found that musicmatch / icloud blocked more than half the tracks on the imac (I can see them but they are grayed out, won't play, and their icloud status says "waiting"). Trying to import the tracks thru my ipod also didn't work. How do I transfer the (missing?) music over to the imac using a high-capacity flash drive?

The easiest way is to simply copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer.
This copies the entire library, not only the media.

  • Transfering music library from Iphone to new pc

How can I transfer all of my music from my iphone to my new pc. I have only found out how to transfer the music purchased in the itunes store.

Itunes purchased music is all you can transfer. The iphone is NOT a back up device.
The music sync is one way -computer to iphone.
You should move the music from your old computer to the new one, then sync.
You can use your back up copy of your music to do this.

All of your computers content are available in the AppleTV section called "Computer".  This is where you will find your music.
The Music section of the AppleTV is only for those who subscribed to iTunes Match.
