Need Cables: DVI and audio

Where can I find some good quality cheap cables?
I have an LCD tv with DVI and VGA connection, I need a DVI to DVI cable for cleaner DVI output.
I would also like to have an audio out adaptor and cable that can split a signal for audio out cable to go into the televisiona and an audio out cable to RCA cables for audio output into the stereo.
Thanks
think I found some:

The only supported method is HDMI so there will be no guarantee with any converter. If it does work, you would need to make sure your TV is HDCP compliant in order to play protected content (ie iTunes, Netflix). Functionality can also cease at any time.

  • Exactly what cables and hardware do I need to connect my early-2008 MacBook Pro to a flat-screen TV monitor to have both video and audio?

    Hello--
I'm trying to figure out how to connect my 15" MacPro Book from early 2008 to a Sony flat screen TV monitor. I've been told I need a "Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter" and a "HDMI to HDMI" cable, but I've also been reading that some cables only work with 2010 & 2011 laptops and that I may need additional cable/hardware to obtain audio. Could someone advise me on exactly what products I need to purchase?
    Thank you!

Which MacBook Pro 15" do you have?
With the silver keyboard (Early 2008)) or that one with a black keyboard (Late 2008)?
If you habe the Late 2008 you can use a miniDisplay Port + Audio to HDMI like that one (stereo sound) or that one (5.1).
If you have the Early 2008, it's not so easy, because you need a DVI + Audio to HDMI like that one (the Audio Channels had to be converted to Coaxial!) So much more adapters! Maybe there is a manufaturer which has the all in one solution)
Both MacBook Pro DOESN'T support audio on the video output! The later ones (Mid 2010 and later) supports Audio output within the miniDisplay Port.

  • I have a mid 2009 Macbook Pro and i know the Mini-display port does not support audio out but does it support HDMI out? or do i have to buy a Mini-display to DVI and then a DVI to HDMI adapters?

Run MDP to HDMI for picture. Use a cable like this to run sound from your audio out on your Mac to your TV's audio in.  That's about all  you can do.

    Hi eb
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Could be a bad Dynex adapter, return that one for another and/or cough up the extra $3 for Apples.
I'm now using a Mini-DVD to to DVI and a 21.5 LG monitor, but my Apple Mini-DVI to Video adapter and my 27" Sharp served me well for a couple of years.
See the Tip in > http://support.apple.com/kb/TA23844?
+Tip: To make sure that your iMac automatically detects the external display or projector, be sure you plug the adapter into the external display or projector before you plug it into the iMac.+

  • What do I need to transfer video and audio from my 2009 Macbook to my television?

I want to watch a movie with my family tonight, but the DVD is broken. I was planning on renting the movie online and transferring the video and audio from my Macbook to the television. What cables will I need to accomplish this? Also, does anyone know, were I to use a Windows instead, would transferring the audio be simpler? (And what would I need to do that?)

Try doing it without a cable!
    Use AirDrop, described here:

UPDATE - Oh, sorry, I see the article points out the MacBook is too old for AirDrop.

  • DVI and Ethernet Cable

    Hi,
Quick question, my internet is ethernet only but i am thinking or getting a cinema display and i will need a Mini DVI to DVI adaptor.
Could someone tell me whether i can have my Mini DVI cable connected and my ethernet cable plugged in at the same time.
    Thanks.

Sure you can. They are 2 different ports that are virtually unrelated. There's enough room for each cable too.
    Good luck

Will not work.  To my knowledge, dual converting like that isn't supported.  The Mac must detect the connected video output device and that sort of info cannot be done across an analog component uni-directional connection.

  • Need full resolution HDMI audio and 2 CH optical simultaneously

Am working on an install for a customer who has a Mac Mini.  He is running XBMC for all his movies.  I need to run HDMI to his surround processor with full resolution audio while running the optical out in 2 channel pcm for his whole house audio.  Is this possible?

As standard sound would go to one or the other output, it is possible to configure things to send sound to both at the same time, but I would strongly expect this would require both to be configured the same i.e. stereo, rather than one being stereo and the other 5.1.
To configure the Mac to send to both you need to use the Audio MIDI Setup tool in the Utilities folder.
    See https://support.apple.com/kb/PH5178?locale=en_US
and How to combine multiple audio interfaces by creating an aggregate device - Apple Support
It maybe that the easiest or more practical option would be to use an AV Receiver set to output via both its stereo and HDMI ports. The Mac would then just send via HDMI to the AV Receiver which would if needed handle the conversion and splitting of the signal.

  • Does the HDMI cable carry both video and audio? U

Does the HDMI cable carry both video and audio?
If so what is the purpose of the separate optical audio connection?
Just a little confusion setting the Apple TV Up with my AV receiver.
    TIA.

You would use both HDMI and optical by connecting the former to a TV and the latter to a receiver that doesn't have an HDMI input so that you could play the audio through your stereo system.
You can use the HDMI alone, typically directly to the TV or through an A/V receiver, as HDMI does carry both video and sound.
For the year prior to the disastrous 4.4 updates a couple of weeks ago, you could use optical alone to add AirPlay music capabilities to your stereo system, so that you could stream music from iTunes and devices like the Touch and iPhone to your stereo. The 4.4 update broke that capability, requiring the use of HDMI for no reason. Lots and lots of people have been complaining about that bug, as it effectively bricks the Apple TV for anyone who bought it for this purpose but can't use the HDMI connection.

  • Need cable definition for 871 Router and USR Modem

I have tried three different RJ45 to DB25 adapters used for various Cisco routers. I am configuring this to remotely dial into the Cisco 871. I have a Case in the TAC but it is not going well.
    Bill Bores

    Hello Bill,
I am not really clear on what you are asking: are you looking to purchase the cable somewhere, and what is TAC recommending ? Have a look at this link, it shows the cable you need (it is the blue cable with an RJ-45 connector at one side, and a DB-25 adapter at the other...).
Or are you having problems getting a (remote) connection from your modem to the router ?

  • ADVICE NEEDED Apple TV and Airport Express vs Cable company modem

In process of buying Apple TV and need some advice.  I have a cable moodem and am wondering if I should use that for Apple TV or should I also purchase airport express to use with Cable modem.  I currently do not have any airplay devices but might in future.  Recomendations about setup would be great.

I suppose you could connect the Apple TV to your home network with a LAN cable...then have your PC wired to the same network...this would allow you to download movies, Netflix and YouTube from the internet to the Apple TV and also to play music from iTunes on your PC....but one of the things I really like about my new Apple TV is the interaction with iOS devices...it is great to mirror the desktop  from an iPad 2, it is great to show pictures etc. from the same iPad...I think you'd miss a lot if you didn't enable wi-fi...it seems like you could setup a wi-fi access point in your home for a very modest cost, and just connect the downlink from the wi-fi network to the hub of your cable modem...or your ISP might have an integrated wi-fi system you can purchase...when you setup wi-fi on Apple TV, you just need to know the name(SSID) of the wi-fi network and any password you might have..it works great.  The instruction book, though tiny, does a pretty good job of explaining stuff

  • Video and audio players will not show in Firefox. Players show in Safari and Chrome. (Mac computers). Do I need a plug-in?

Tested on 3 apple mac computers:
Mac Pro, Mini Mac and Macbook Pro.
Each computer running Mountain Lion and Firefox 11.8.800.94
Video and audio players not showing on website (video player is JWPlayer)
Error on video player placeholder says 'No video with supported format and MIME type found'
When the same site is access via either Chrome or Safari then the video and audio players show with all of the controls.

You get this error if the video tag is used and not an object or embed tag that specifies a Flash player.<br />
So this doesn't look like a problem with the Flash player as it is most likely not used in this case.<br />
If there is fall back code to use a Flash player then it isn't working.
