Need chapter help, too
I have a chapter problem, too. My students are making individual & team basketball highlight DVD for the players. We used FCP and added chapters and named them according to the team we played. I thought the chapters would magically appear once I dragged the movie onto a iDVD. (I did select chapter markers) I did not see anything that share to iDVD, though.
Anyway, are you saying that each ball game should be saved as a QT and then brought in indv. as a chapter to iDVD? I see where that makes sense and they are all ready saved as indv. games.
THis morning, I dropped 4 ball games in the drop zone and came up with this message: There are no video tracks defined in the current project.
Any help would be appreciated.
You do know that the drop zones are just for the menus where a video or photo can play while the menu shows. It is not the same as a chapter/scene.
Chapter markers from FCE and FCP are supposed to show up in iDVD. See if these help:

I need your help with a decision to use iPhoto. I have been a PC user since the mid 1980’s and more recently have used ACDSee to manage my photo images and Photoshop to edit them. I have used ProShow Gold to create slideshows. I am comfortable with my own folder and file naming conventions. I currently have over 23,000 images of which around 60% are scans going back 75 years. Since I keep a copy of the originals, the storage requirements for over 46,000 images is huge. 180GB plus.
I now have a Macbook Pro and will add an iMac when the new models arrive. For my photos, I want to stay with Photoshop which also gives me the Bridge. The only obvious reason to use iPhoto is to take advantage of Faces and the link to iMovie to make slideshows. What am I missing and is using iPhoto worth the effort?
If I choose to use iPhoto, I am not certain whether I need to load the originals and the edited versions. I suspect that just the latter is sufficient. If I set PhotoShop as my external editor, I presume that iPhoto will keep track of all changes moving forward. However, over 23,000 images in iPhoto makes me twitchy and they are appear hidden within iPhoto. In the past, I have experienced syncing problems with, and database errors in, large databases. If I break up the images into a number of projects, I loose the value of Faces reaching back over time.
Some guidance and insight would be appreciated. I have a number of Faces questions which I will save for later.Bridge and Photoshop is a common file-based management system. (Not sure why you'd have used ACDSEE as well as Bridge.) In any event, it's on the way out. You won't be using it in 5 years time.
Up to this the lack of processing power on your computer left no choice but to organise this way. But file based organisation is as sensible as organising a Shoe Warehouse based on the colour of the boxes. It's also ultimately data-destructive.
Modern systems are Database driven. Files are managed, Images imported, virtual versions, lossless processing and unlimited editing are the way forward.
For a Photographer Photoshop is overkill. It's an enormously powerful app, a staple of the Graphic Designers' trade. A Photographer uses maybe 15% to 20% of its capability.
Apps like iPhoto, Lightroom, Aperture are the way forward - for photographers. There's the 20% of Photoshop that shooters actually use, coupled with management and lossless processing. Pop over to the Aperture or Lightroom forums (on the Adobe site) and one comment shows up over and over again... "Since I started using Aperture/ Lightroom I hardly ever use Photoshop any more..." and if there is a job that these apps can do, then the (much) cheaper Elements will do it.
The change is not easy though, especially if you have a long-standing and well thought out filing system of your own. The first thing I would strongly advise is that you experiment before making any decisions. So I would create a Library, import 300 or 400 shots and play. You might as well do this in iPhoto to begin with - though if you’re a serious hobbyist or a Pro then you'll find yourself looking further afield pretty soon. iPhoto is good for the family snapper, taking shots at birthdays and sharing them with friends and family.
Next: If you're going to successfully use these apps you need to make a leap: Your files are not your Photos.
The illustration I use is as follows: In my iTunes Library I have a file called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles.mp3'. So what is that, exactly? It's not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. They wrote a tune and lyrics. They recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in the mp3 file. So the file is just a container for the recording. That container is designed in a specific way attuned to the characteristics and requirements of the data. Hence, mp3.
Similarly, that Jpeg is not your photo, it's a container designed to hold that kind of data. iPhoto is all about the data and not about the container. So, regardless of where you choose to store the file, iPhoto will manage the photo, edit the photo, add metadata to the Photo but never touch the file. If you choose to export - unless you specifically choose to export the original - iPhoto will export the Photo into a new container - a new file containing the photo.
When you process an image in iPhoto the file is never touched, instead your decisions are recorded in the database. When you view the image then the Master is presented with these decisions applied to it. That's why it's lossless. You can also have multiple versions and waste no disk space because they are all just listings in the database.
These apps replace the Finder (File Browser) for managing your Photos. They become the Go-To app for anything to do with your photos. They replace Bridge too as they become a front-end for Photoshop.
So, want to use a photo for something - Export it. Choose the format, size and quality you want and there it is. If you're emailing, uploading to websites then these apps have a "good enough for most things" version called the Preview - this will be missing some metadata.
So it's a big change from a file-based to Photo-based management, from editing files to processing Photos and it's worth thinking it through before you decide. -

In Need of Help Creating an Action
Hello,
I need to create several thousand QR codes and I am trying to work out how to automate it so that I don't have to make them one at a time.
My idea was to download the EVEnX QR Code plugin for Photoshop and then make an action, or series of actions, to make the codes en mass. The information I need in each QR Code is a URL, with each code having a unique one that links to the products serial number.
So, I created a file roughly the size of the QR codes I needed and used vairables to insert the URL on text layer. I was hoping to be able to create an action that would copy that text, open the plugin (which works like a filter), paste the text, create the code and save/close the image.
However, I can't seem to get it to work. I don't know how to make an action to have it highlight the text layer or an action to paste it into the plugin.
Also, the plugin allows you to make a variable of certain information it pulls from the file but the closest I can get to what I need is file name, however I can't make the files named for the URL because of the slashes. They allows you to use file name, file path and the information like size and date.
Sorry for the long post but I HAVE to get this figured out as this project is for work and I am on a time limit. I don't have to use an action, any other way would be fine! I don't have much experience with scripts but if you can walk me through one that would work then I would be happy to try! PLEASE HELP!!!

I need a help to generate new file
Hi Guys
I need your help. I have two text box in my form, the first one takes the file name to read, and then when user type in another file name in the second textbox, result should be saved as a typed file name in the same path.
What I really want to do is, when the file is exist already (for instance, I'll name it as result.txt), my program scan through the result.txt file and append the new data at the end of the file. But result.txt file doesn't exist, it has to generate new file and save the data into the new one. I think I need to implement these in the OpenFile1() function, but I dont' know how.
Does anybody have idea to solve this?

Thank you so much!There's a lot of unnecessary code there, and anyway it isn't formatted in a readable way so I am not going to look too closely at it. But if you want to append to the file if it already exists and create the file if it doesn't, then all you need is this: fileOutput = new PrintWriter(new FileWriter(fileName_out, true));Note the "true" parameter there which (if you look in the API documentation) says that new data will be appended at the end of the file.

This is first time I am on this forum.
I have already tried going through a lot of docs on docwiki.cisco.com but couldn't find complete configuration help.
I have to integrate Meeting Place 8.X with an existing CUCM and an E1 gateway (PSTN Gateway) AS5400.
The CUCM is already part of a Telepresence Environment. I need to create a SIP trunk between AS5400 and CUCM 7.1 and then create a Trunk between AS5400 and Cisco Unified MP 8.X and then between CUMP and CUCM.
I need help on AS5400 SIP Configs as well as parameters I need to cover on CUCM (Though I have done some basic dial-peer configs but they haven't been of much help).
Then I also need help on AS5400 SIP configs with CUMP 8.0
Any docs on Integration between CUMP and TP3000 will be of great help too.

AsimI can get the Ricoh to register as sip endpoint, it answeres then imediatly disconnects. Doing a monitor with Wireshark looks like it attempts to negotiate t38 but fails. Any idea why this fails?

If, for example, I execute the query "select (all) from dba_objects", trace output reports 90% of the elapsed time spent under "SQLNet message from client".
Here are OS details for the clients: Solaris 10 5/08 s10s_u5wos_10 SPARC
Running "uname -a" from the client gives:

Again, please note, there is no application in the picture here. We are just running a simple catalog query (select * from dba_objects) from sqlplus. Why the wait on something like this? The wait also occurs when a different query is used (select (all) from SYS.COL$ where rownum < 50000). And it doesn't matter if I used the full client or the instant client. I still get the same high-wait.
We had thought - maybe this is a network thing - so we put a test client on the same subnet as the dataserver. This helped - but not enough. The wait is still way too high even with firewalls taken out of the equation.
We've also looked at arraysize, SDU, kernel settings. And we've spent time going over tkprof, truss and sqlnet-tracing.
Has anyone ever had to solve this HIGH WAIT ON CLIENT issue? Is there a work around or some tweak I'm missing.
Is anyone configured like we are (linux dataserver, solaris clients)? If so - did you see anything like this?

We have the exact same issue. Did you ever solve this issue? We have a t5220 and have just upgraded our 11.5.10.2 11i system on it from 9.2.0.8 32-bit sparc to 11.2.0.1 64-bit sparc. Things should be faster but arent, and our consultant has tracked it down to high wait times when the apps tier using forms connects to the database tier on the same box. So even though the t5220 is both server and client, there is something about the client sql connection.through TNS that his having trouble. Thanks for any information. We've also created an S/R with Oracle.
Note: I am well aware of the other issues with the CMT server series but this particular issue seems independent of the regular / known issues and remains a mystery to us. Other known issues with the CMT servers for SPARC:

Folks, I'm in a world-class bind and need some help badly. I just lost two month of work! It was all written in java 1.6.
The only thing I have left is the jar file.
I've tried a number of decompilers. The one that does the best job is jad. However, considering the sheer volume of code (and the mistakes made by jad), the results are pretty discouraging.
When I decompile, jad throws this error:
The class file version is 50.0 (only 45.3, 46.0 and 47.0 are supported)
I've googled like crazy looking for a decompiler that will handle version 50 class files, but I'm not coming up with anything. Of course, I'd rather have something for free, but I'm willing to fork out some cash on this one if necessary because I really do not have time to re-reconstruct jad's work.
Have you guys had any success decompiling version 50 class files?Probably too late, but how did you delete the code, and what platform are you using? I'd be looking into recovering the lost data before I flailed around trying to decompile Java bytecode.
That said, if you've been using the machine in question since the accident, there's not much hope. All I can do is point you to Subversion and wish you better luck next time.
At least with Java you only have to decompile/rewrite the classes that you hadn't finished; the others will be perfectly usable as .class files.
(Edit:) Incidentally, there's a JAD plugin for Eclipse that might be useful to you when trying to recreate or integrate with these classes. -
Very slow performance running Mavericks - need troubleshooting help

I have a MBP 2011 which was upgraded to Mavericks from Mountain Lion about 6 weeks ago. Since then I have had a major performance drop - slow machine, very slow window renderings, etc. I know a number of people have been facing these issues and have been recommended to clean up 3rd party extensions/agents. Western Digital My Book 1148 3 TB WD drives are one of the worst things that can happen to a mac. They have software on the drive and also in the firmware of the drive enclosure that is incompatible with Mavericks. The software that they also want you to install on your mac (to run the drive with the shitware on it that is incompatible with Mavericks) is also incompatible with Mavericks. The best thing to do with this drive is to open it and remove the hard drive and put it into a new (non-WD) enclosure. Then smash the WD enclosure into little bits with a sledgehammer and mail it back to WD.

Need some help with guitar setup...
jeez, never thought i'd be asking a question like this after playing for like 20 years, but i need some help with a guitar setup for mac. i'm gonna list out a lot of crap here that prolly doesn't affect anything at all, but here goes.
Imac 17inch G4 - latest updated OS X... 10.4, or 5, or whatever. garageband 3.0

here's the setup:
yamaha is on its own on a usb uno midi interface, sure's connected to gnx's xlr port, alesis connected to gnx's jam-a-long input, '87 kramer vanguard connected to gnx's guitar input. currently running headphones out on gnx to line in on mac.
here's the problem:
everything works beautifully, but my guitar sounds like crap. if i plug headphones into the gnx, it sounds beautiful. that makes me think its some kind of level issue between the gnx's output, and the mac's input, but nothing seems to fix it.
by sounding like crap, i mean way too much bass. sound is muddy, blurry, not crisp... aka crap. i've tried altering both output and input on mac and gnx, and i cant get a combination that works. the gnx has a s/pdif out, can the mac accept that as input? might that help? short of running the gnx to my marshal half stack and mic'ing that, anyone have any suggestions, or use a similar setup?
any help would be greatly appreciated!anyone? ... any suggestions? I think it might be an issue with the gnx pre-amping the signal as it goes out, and then the mac amping it on the way in, giving me a buttload more signal than i need, but since i cant find a happy level, i'm not really sure. i really dont want to resort to mic'ing my marshall... even with the volume almost off, my jcm900 is WAY too loud for apartment use. its not like i really NEED the guitar to sound perfect, i only use garageband to sketch out ideas for songs between myself and bandmates, but its really annoying to not have my customary crisp distortion. my bass player keeps telling me to use the built in amps, but, not to dis a practically free program, but the built in amps blow, at least after 10 years of marshall tube amplification they do. if anyone has any suggestions that might be helpfull on how i might resolve this, i would be your best friend for life and go to all your birthday parties

Need some help with sound quality
Hi guys, new here. I'm working on creating an album on my own. Bass and vocals are real, everything else is using software instruments. I have about 8 songs done, but the problem is I don't really know what I'm doing as far as recording and levels go.
I'm using studio headphones and everything sounds fantastic through them, and even pretty good if I just hook up some earbuds, but when I bounce out a track and burn them to do a disc and play it in my car, it sounds awful. Suddenly the guitar is too low, drums are too loud.
I really need some help here. I'm even willing to pay someone to get me on the right track. Using paypal or whatever.AecDuck wrote:

If you know enough to get good bass and vocal recordings and mix that with virtual instruments, then you are well on your way to making a decent sounding mix. Mixing in headphones can be very deceiving. Things simply sound different in headphones. You need some monitors, even if they are crappy because if you can get it to sound good in crappy monitors it will likely sound good on other speakers.
The fun and experience comes from getting a good balance that sounds good in headphones, and in the monitors, and in your home stereo, and in your car stereo. Use the different audio systems as a reference. If the drums are too quiet in the car, bring them up a bit. If the bass is too loud in your headphones, put them down a bit.
If you bring in your recordings to be mixed by somebody else, first of all you're going to end up paying hundreds, if not $1000+ dollars, even in a sub-par studio. Secondly, it's never going to sound how you want it to sound. It's going to sound how THEY want it to sound.
I know it takes longer, and it's hard work, but you will have such a tremendous amount of satisfaction when your project is done knowing that YOU recording it, and YOU mixed it on YOUR equipment. It will be 100% yours.
Where's the fun? How about the fun in interacting with another human being? How about the satisfaction in having another validate what you've been trying to produce?
I don't think it's helpful to make generalizations about what type of experience the OP might have in getting professional help. I have had good experiences working with mixing engineers, and perhaps I have just been lucky, but I've been able to produce music that sounded how I wanted it to sound, but at a level beyond which my skill at the time would have been able to produce, AND I gained some insights to help me in the future.
It IS satisfying to teach yourself a new skill. And it takes a lot of patience, trial and error, and you might miss the mark more often than you hit it. If you're in a rush, it might be a viable solution to contact some studios and see if you can work with them. Learning from others is perfectly acceptable. -
Need some help with wine + midi
Howdi guys!
I need some help. I'd like to run an application which is only available for Windows and OSX, so my choice is wine. This application needs to send midi signals to the hardware it is supposed to control.
In the product's forum there is a thread which shows how it can be done. But the newest releases of wine don't allow this, because it doesn't support jack anymore.
I think basically it doesn't matter which application it is I run in wine, the question is, is it possible to send midi signals in and out through wine? If so, how? Might be that it's quite trivial, in my defense I have to say that I never worked with midi before.
The soundcard I use is an Edirol UA-25 which is fully supported in Linux, midi works.
Thanks for any ideas!
edit: Forgot two things: I know I could try older versions of wine or running it in a virtual machine, but I want to avoid this.
Last edited by Army (2012-04-27 07:15:33)For that app, you will probably be using the ALSA-midi interface. So, you shouldn't require Wine to have jack support. - In fact, that picture clearly shows that Wine is using ALSA-midi, but he is using jackd + a2jmidid (which exposes alsa-midi 2 jack-midi).
As long as that software doesn't require a special driver, you should be able to use it. As for the specifics, i would imagine that you would start jackd, start a2jmidid and then start your application. - you also have to make sure your midi device is connecting before launching your app in wine - otherwise the device won't show up in your wine app. You also will need to select your midi interface in your application. After this, you should be able to connect your wine app (through the a2jmidi bridge) to your hardware.
But if for whatever reason you can't get it too work ~ i do actually use a VM for updating firmware on 2 different audio devices (a soundcard and midi-controller) - and it works great. I am using VMware, but i would imagine virtualbox would work very similar..

"Create a GUI-based Java application that searches a set of files for a particular word and displays the file name along with line number(s) where the word appears in the file. The data files used for input to this application are simple ASCII text files. Use the following artifacts as a guide."First, write a non-GUI version. Actually, write a version that doesn't have a UI at all. Write test classes to run your program.
Do your program in steps. For example, try this: write a class that has two fields: a java.io.File object, and an array of integers. The File is the file being searched through, and the array is the line numbers. These two fields should be final and public.
Then write a test class that creates an instance of this class with some made-up values. Write another test class that displays the fields. This class will represent a single matched file.
Then write a method (perhaps a static method in the first class) that takes a single java.io.File representing a file to search through, and a String representing a keyword to search for in that file. This method will create an instance of the class with the File and array of line numbers. Look at java.io.LineNumberReader to help with this.
Write test classes that test that method.
Then write a method (perhaps another static method in the first class) that takes a specfication for a set of files (perhaps a directory, or a java.util.Collection of Files) and a String keyword, determines what files to look in, and then calls the previous method to do the actual searching. Hi, I need some help understanding the way materialized views are applied through adpatch.
In patch 1, we have a mv with build mode immediate. When applying it PTS hang due to pool performance of mv refresh.
So we provide patch 2, with that mv build mode deferred, hoping it'll go through. But patch 2 hang too on the same mv.
How does this work? Is that because mv already exists in the database with build immediate, patch 2 will force it to refresh first before changing build mode? How to get over this?

Application release is 11.5.10.
Patch 1 is MSC11510: 8639586 ASCP ENGINE RUP#38 PATCH FOR 11.5.10 BRANCH
Patch 2 is MSC11510: 9001833 APCC MSC_PHUB_CUSTOMERS_MV WORKER IS STUCK ON "DB FILE SEQUENTIAL READ" 12 HOURS
The MV is APPS.MSC_PHUB_CUSTOMERS_MV
This happens at customer environment but not reproducable in our internal environment, as our testing data is much smaller.
Taking closer look in the logs, I saw actually when applying both patch 1 and patch 2, MV doesn't exist in the database. So seems my previous assumption is wrong. Still, strange that patch 2 contains only one file which is the MV.xdf, it took 7 hours and finally got killed.
