Need cheap receiver for audio

It appears the video is working but need to buy a receiver to get audio to my floor speakers. Any suggestions?
thx

I've got the Denon AVR-391. It retails for about $199, and is a 5.1 surround sound system with a variety of audio codecs. Some of them, including Dolby Pro Logic II and the DTS codecs will "mimic" surround sound with a stereo input. I only have a three speaker system, so I can't attest to how effective it is with AppleTV/Netflix content, but I love the stereo system.
I just looked at some reviews from people who had to return non-functioning units, but mine has worked just fine for two months now. It's also go a lot of great controls for individual speakers, allowing me to get the optimum balance between my floor L-R speakers and my center speaker.
It's got HDMI in and HDMI out, as well as Digital Optical Audio in, so it's totally compatable with the AppleTV ... which is giving me some trouble at the moment watching an HD doc over Netflix. I'm starting to wonder if Comcast is throttling the AppleTV ...

  • Do you need a receiver for the Nike+ sensor to work?

Hi, like to know if you'd need the receiver in order for the Nike+ sensor to work.
Am currently running with my 3GS but thought the GEN 6 Nano looks pretty awesome and I'll like to know if I need the receiver.
    Thanks in advance.

    hi Niel,
would you, by any chance, know that if we use the iPod nano and the receiver+sensor, will we be able to map our running route just like the Nike+ GPS app? I think it's not possible, but just want to be sure.
    thank you in advance!

  • Need dedicated drive for audio samples

I need to get a dedicated HD just for audio sample libraries that are used by VI instruments in Pro Tools. Right now the G4 already has 3 drives in it: One for PT running in OSX, one for OS9 apps and an SATA 250 as the recording drive. I also have a FW external for backup. I don't need a huge drive for these samples....an 80 or 160GB drive would be big enough. So far these are my options:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/owc-neptune-drives/
an external FW400 drive....is this fast enough for Structure, BFD, Addictive drums, etc.?
    http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_Item.cfm?ID=10039&Item=HIT0Y30002
a third ATA drive....but I would need to get a 3 input ribbon drive cable to accomodate a third ATA drive.....is it going to cause heat issues?
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Western%20Digital/WD800AAJS/
a second SATA drive. I know this would be the fastest of the three....but I'd actually like to reserve the second internal SATA port for another recording drive.
    What do you think?

It's a Radeon 9000 and I don't really know how power hungry it is or how much heat it puts out.
The 9000 is a good, conservative card, that doesn't tax the power, or put out extreme amounts of heat.
and the dual processor upgrade(which has 2 fans on it, of course) that has to be considered.
    Considered.
Somehow I think that heat wouldn't be an issue in adding an SATA drive to the second port on the SATA card.
All devices produce heat, but with a clean interior and fans, 4 drives should work fine.
There are no external ports on the SATA card, btw, only 2 internal.
There is a 2 internal and 2 external card from Firmtek. Or, get an extender that moves one port (or two) to the exterior.
Can an SATA be put into any old firewire drive enclosure?
No, it needs to be SATA compatible, or have room for an IDE to SATA adapter.

  • With SSD as primary drive, still need 2nd drive for audio?

If I get an SSD drive as my primary, would I still need a 2nd drive for recording audio? I thought the main reason for needing a 2nd drive was that the 1st drive would be bust moving its needle arounf doing OS stuff (and thus, you wouldn'[t want your audio recording to compete).
But since the SSDs have no moving parts, no needles, heads, etc., would one big SSD drive get the job done? Or, am I still going to want a 2nd drive for audio.
I'm very mobile and would love not to have to lug around a 2nd drive. But if I need to, I need to.
    Thanks for any comments,
    Ron

I'm not using it as a scratch drive.
My current setup is as follows:
128 GB SSD (Patriot TorqX - 260 Read 200 Write) for OS and Applications
4 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Buffer Hard Drives in Software Raid 0 for Scratch.
I also have 1 650MB Hard Drive (Shipped with Mac Pro) that I can use.
I am shooting in HD via an AVCHD Camcorder. Importing/Converting to ProRes. Editing in FCP. Then exporting to three formats (DVD, AVCHD DVD for use in Blu-Ray Set Tops, and some form of Divx for use on a Windows Media Center). Most "Movies" are 20-30 minutes in length.
I am thinking about returning the SSD as I'm having some issues with it. With the drives I have in hand (or if I need something else, let me know), what configuration do you recommend.

  • Any cheaper solution for audio on 2007 MacBook Pro to TV?

I see this adapter may finally give me the ability to merge my audio with my DVI and connect to my HDMI based TV:
    http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=3570
Is there anything cheaper that can do that. I know only the late 2009 iMacs and 2010 Macs can connect display ports to HDMI and have audio straight to TV.
I was hoping there might be a way to do this with my DVI on my 2007 Santa Rosa MacBook Pro.
    I have a Sony 42" Bravia XBR9.

Have you checked Radio Shack? The staff are pretty knowledgeable about what you need to connect MBPs to TVs. Their cables are way less than $300.

  • Need IR Receiver for MBP Retina

MBP Retinas no longer come with an IR receiver. Does anyone know of a stable usb IR receiver that works with MBP & Apple remotes? I cannot use iPhone since the majority of my presentations are in areas without WiFi.

Well. I have seen solutions for this type of thing in more high end entertainment systems. I am not sure what they are called but I am sure if you checked with a big box place like best buy or went to a home theatre installer, they could tell you exactly what they are called. Basically, there is a central IR input that is exposed and you place it wherever you want (maybe on the clip holding the laptop) and then a cord runs to the IR input on the device. (Usually, these are stuck to the actual device. However, you might be able to stick it to the stand where your IR input is so when you place your computer on the stand it makes contact. You wouldn't need a long cord or anything.
It may be a little more complicated than the other suggestions, but after some clever hiding of cords and stuff, it may work for you. Do a Google search for IR repeater system. It may provide you with a little more info.
I know exactly what you are talking about and have thought of doing that.
I do have a similar setup that uses two "pyramids" that converts the IR to RF and then back it IR. I problem is, the sensor is still covered! Thats why I need an EXTERNAL senor and not just a repeater.

  • Need a camera for audio FaceTime?

The latest version of Maverick allows audio FaceTime. However, FaceTime tells "To use FaceTime, connect a camera". On my MacPro, I don't have a camera, but I have a microphone (which is recognized by FaceTime). Does it mean I cannot do an audio FaceTime without a camera?

I've tried on two Mac Minis (both cameraless, and both with mics installed) and have the same experience. Seems like a pretty obvious and glaring bug. Hope they fix it soon.

  • If I want to play my ibook mac g4 through a receiver what audio cord would I need?

If I want to play my ibook mac g4 through a receiver what audio cord would I need?

There is a patch cord that has a mini-plug (stereo) on one end and an RCA set of jacks that are usually red and black polarized on the other, if the desired ports are the old standard inputs for audio equipment.
Other kinds of patch cords with the mini-plug that fits the headphone jack in the iBook and different connectors on the other end, are available that could attach to a different set of ports. But I don't recall the generic name.
Could be as simple as 'stereo mini to RCA jack'. Sorry!
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • What kind of audio interface do I need for audio out from MainStage 3?

I have a Yamaha MO8 that I use for playing in the worship band at my church. In the past, I've just directly routed audio from the MO8 through a direct box and into the sound system.
I'm looking to switch my setup and use the Yamaha MO8 as a midi controller in MainStage 3. I have this part working — the problem is getting the audio from my MacBook Pro.
The audio output sounds fine through the MacBook Pro speakers or through headphones plugged into the audio out / headphone jack; however, if I plug the direct box into the MacBook Pro's audio out / headphone jack, the signal the sound system gets is very pretty weak and very distorted.
I'm assuming I need an audio interface between my MacBook Pro and the direct box / sound system. Since it's a 2010 MacBook Pro, I'm assuming my only output option is USB (unless the digital audio out can be used). If that's correct, would something like the Scarlet 2i2 work for me?
    Thanks…

Yes, you'll need some sort of audio interface to get a good signal back to your mixer.
The Scarlet 2i2 would work for you but you may find a few limitations.  I use a MOTU Audio Express and it has the advantage of being a mixer as well, so I can mix in a backup signal from the onboard audio outs of my controller (Kurzweil PC3x) in case MainStage goes down (it happens on rare occasion).  Firewire is my preference so the MOTU checks that box.  I also like that I can connect my MIDI cables to the MOTU and have one cable going into the computer.
If you need this sort of compact redundancy, I would shoot a little higher than the Scarlet.  If you don't feel the need for a backup line and USB works for you, then the Scarlet unit would be an excellent value.

    You're very welcome!
I meant holding the "option" (or "alt") key on your keyboard as you click the Outlook icon on the Dock, and continuing to hold it until you see the Microsoft Database Utility come up. Alternatively, you can open the utility by navigating to Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/Office and then double-clicking the Microsoft Database Utility app.
When you rebuild your database using that program, a backup copy of your original database (containing your account info, contacts, mail, calendars, etc) will be created. As a security precaution, you should also ensure you have a backup of your database (which you can find by going to Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2011 Identities/ and copying the contents of that folder onto an external drive).

If QuickTime Player 7 isn't in the Utilities folder automatically, you can install it separately. See:

Instructions on how to register your QuickTime Pro key can be found in that same document.

  • Need urgent help for solving issue with my audio output.

It seems that all of sudden my integrated speakers started to make buzzing sound for a minute of a sec. and the sound comes randomly only during playback.  Same thing also happens even on headphone. So any suggestions? Why it is happening??

    Hi
Try to update the driver from hp.com website for Audio & Bios.
Last step is to run a recovery on the unit before this please back up your data as it will be lost.
If still does not work speaker on the unit has gone bad needs to be replaced.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the speaker replaced.
Let us know how it goes!

  • I need the correct driver for an infrared remote control (ENE CIR receiver) for Pavilion DV4-2173nr

I need the correct driver for an infrared remote control (ENE CIR receiver) for Pavilion DV4-2173nr.
The receiver that came with my notebook is a black model one (see picture below), with the following information in its bottom label:
    RC1762302/00
    3139 228 50021
    HP SPS: 435743-001
    HP: HSTNN-PRO7
    RC6 ir
    CP06 60808 A 146218 REV. B
I never managed to make it work, from the very beginning. I know it is working, because I replaced the battery for a brand new one and it shows a blinking IR LED when I press any button and point it to a digital camera.
Searching for "ENE CIR receiver driver" is useless 'cause I received more than one hundred answers - I tried four of them but none worked so far.
So, instead of trying the whole bunch, I am crying for help -  could someone please tell me which driver is the correct one for this remote model?
    Thanks in advance and regards,
    Mike
