Need clarification about restore.

As the title says I'm in need of some clarification as to what restoring my iphone 4 does. From what I've read, my understanding is a restore only resets the 'settings' that were on the phone and not to the OS version that was installed on the phone when I purchased it. Correct?

Correct, the OS version does not change after a restore. You can only upgrade, not downgrade.
When you restore, the device is returned to factory settings, except for the OS version.
After a restore, you will be prompted to either 1) restore all your previous data to the device from the last backup, or 2) set up the device as new, leaving it fresh and clean.
1) Is what most people need to do as a first step if they're having problems with the device.
2) Is useful when giving your device to a friend or selling it, or when diagnosing software problems.

Recovery must be done beyond SCN 1726503 to clear data files fuzziness

What does it mean "recovery start SCN is 1487308" and "Recovery must be done beyond SCN 1726503..." ?
I would like to restore/recover untill a SCN... but I don't understand if it means I must set a SCN between 1487308 and 1726503, or 1726503 is simply a starting SCN ...

Does it also mean 1726504 is the nearest scn compared with the time I finished to complete that online backup ???
I mean... what should I do to restore just that backup without applying current available archived log and online redo log ???

  • Need clarification about block in Sale order

we would like to know is there any other standard t-code available to do the sales order block removal which we are doing through VA02. blocks like schedule line block, road permit block. Thescenario is as follows:
    Line Item Vise :
Z1 Block - If the Customer Doenst want the material / Order waiting for Statutory Document / PO issue / Off Spec  ,Z1 Block on the line Item level is used  inorder to stop MO during Order Loading
Z3 Block - If an order has more than one line items and Business / Customer needs only 1 Item to be fulfilled and remg items to be fulfilled at the later stage or material has to be diverted to  Other orders Z3 block is used during scheduling subject to Business Approvals.
    Header Vise :
Z1 Block - Customer cancellation happens post order loading and post mfg  ,Z1 block is used in Header Level - done during Post Order Loading Subject to business  Approvals.
Z3 Block - If the Demand is More than the supply and Business / Customer Needs critical order delivery to happen for specific Orders,Z3 block is used in order make the FG free and allocate specific Orders subject to Business Approvals.
Partial Delivery of a PO on Allocation:
Business requires Material for T Models to go on Allocation .Suppose 2 MTMs are loaded in the same SO but business needs only one MTM to be billed and hold Other MTM Delivery Grouping is changed in the SO and qty has to be broken in accordance with the allocation
Partial Delivery of a PO on Relation:
If Supply is not there for the Entire PO and still Customer requires Partial Qty whatever it has then the same will made Partillay after getting customer concurrence
what is the standard t code availabel in the sceanrio

    Hi,
    You can try TCode V.00
This transaction when executed will give you the list of all the sales documents blocked for delivery per sales organization. There are various other criteria which might be useful. This transaction will allow you to edit each sales document.
If this is not the one that you want, then perhaps you might have to develop one.
    Thanks

    Hey gwscrt,
Since iTunes directed to you to restore your iPod, I'd check out the following article that goes over the steps to do so:
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1339
I would read the document in full, but here are the applicable steps for you:
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
    Have a good one,
    David

I have an ipod touch and recently performed the latest updates of itunes.  It said there were problems with my ipod and it need to be restored.  I did that and now it says it's in recovery mode and that I need to restore it.  It takes 45 minutes and I've tried it several times and keep getting same message.  My ipod is now unusable and it has a photo of a plug with an itunes icon telling me to plug it in.  It is plugged in???  I restarted the computer, tried another computer, reset my ipod and nothing.  Help!

    If not successful try:

  • Clarification about  Database_Buffer_cache workings

    Hi All,
Clarification about Database_Buffer_cache workings:(This statement from my course material)
*1.The information read from disk is read a block at a time, not a row at a time, because a database block*
is the smallest addressable storage space on disk.
Before answering, my please check whether my above statement is correct or not, becoz i get this from My course material.
    If i am querying ,
    select * from emp;
Whether server_process bring the whole block belongs to EMP table right or it just bring the table itself?

Both happens, the LGWR may call the DBWR to write dirty blocks from the buffer cache to disk. Dirty in this context means, that the blocks in the buffer cache have been modified and not yet written to disk, i.e. their content differs from the on disk image. Conversely the DBWR can also call LGWR to write redo records from the redo log buffers (in memory) to the redo log files on disk.
To understand why both is possible, you need to understand the mechanics how Oracle does recovery, in particular REDO and UNDO and how they play together. The excellent book "Oracle Core" from Jonathan Lewis describes this in detail.
I'll try to sketch each of the two cases. I am aware that this is only an overview which leaves out many details. For a complete description please look at the various Oracle books and documentation that cover this topic.
    1. LGWR posts DBWR to write blocks to disk
As you probably know, any modifications done by DML (which modify data blocks) are recorded in the redo. In case of recovery this redo can be used to bring the data blocks to the last committed stated before failure by re-applying modifications that are recorded in the redo. Redo is written into redo log files and the redo log files are used in a round robin fashion. As the log files are used in a round robin fashion, old redo data is overwritten at some point in time - thus the corresponding redo records are not longer available in a recovery scenario (they may be in the archived redo logs, which may however not exist if your database runs in NOARCHIVELOG mode and even if your database runs in ARCHIVELOG mode, the archived redo log files may not be accessible to the instance without manual intervention by the DBA).
So before overwriting a redo log file, the Oracle instance must ensure, that the redo records being overwritten will not be used in a potential instance recovery (which the instance is supposed to do automatically, without any action by the DBA, after instance failure, e.g. due to a power outage). The way to ensure this is to have the DBWR write all modifications to disk that are protected by the redo records being overwritten (i.e. all data blocks where the first modification that has not yet been written to disk is older than a certain time) - this is called a "Thread checkpoint".
    2. DBWR posts LGWR to write redo records to disk
Oracle uses a write ahead protocol (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Write-ahead_logging and Write Ahead Logging.... This means, that for any modification the corresponding redo records must been written to disk before the actual modification to the data blocks is written to disk (into the data files). The purpose of this I believe is, to ensure that for any data block modification that makes it to disk, the corresponding UNDO information can be restored (from redo) in case of recovery, in order to reverse uncommitted changes in a recovery scenario.
Before writing a data block to disk, the DBWR must thus make sure, that all redo for modifications affecting this block has already been written to disk by the LGWR. If this is not the case, the DBWR will post the LGWR and only write the data block to the datafile once the redo has been written to the redo log file by LGWR.

  • My ipod needs to be restored but it only stays on the "connect to itunes" for approximately 20 seconds and then turns black as if it is turned off.

So a couple of months ago, I had to restore my new IPOD 5 TOUCH because i had forgotten the password and disabled it, so as you can imagine I am quite familiar with restoring it.
(The last time I had synced it was the only time that I had to restore it when I first got it when I had disabled it)
This morning I wanted to sync my ipod. So I plugged my ipod into my WINDOWS computer and waited for itunes to open, and it did just like it is supposed to. It then said itunes needed the latest update so i continued with updating it. Itunes updated, but then said that my ipod needed the latest software. I said "ok update" and thats when itunes made my ipod into DFU mode without me even touching it.
SOOOO as you can imagine I was quite upset. I then have realized that because Itunes had moved it into DFU mode on its own, I could not manually get my ipod out of DFU mode so the only thing i was left to do was go ahead and restore it.  (correct me if Im wrong)
My huge issue right now is that my ipod NEEDS to be restored, but it only stays on the "connect to itunes" screen for approximatley 20 seconds and then turns black as if it has been turned off. When I plug it into my computer and turn it on to the "connect to itunes" mode, it does open it in itunes and starts "extracting sofftware" but then when it turns black after 20 seconds, it closes out because my computer thinks it has turned off.
I have tried charging it, and nothing has progressed. Im not sure if anything can be done for it right now, or if I could bring it to an apple store to fix it... it's brand new about 3 months old.
HELP and some advice would be greatly appreciated  !
    Thanks!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

So tonight I updated my 4s over 3g to ios 7.1 it took forever and said connect to itunes. It said it was in recovery mode & needed to be restored but would wipe all content. I have never made a backup because my computers hard drive crashed (luckily the pics were on the phone) and now after updating like apple said I should it wants me to wipe my phone... I can't loose pics of my kids births and birthdays... I tried the holding buttons and letting off to exit recovery mode with no success... I don't know what to do but I swear if apple makes me loose the priceless pics of my kids I will never buy any apple device ever again... and I will make sure no family or friend ever does either... there has to be a way somehow.. some data recovery some program... I dunno if tinyumbrella can exit it for me without hacking or jailbreaking (which I don't dare/want to do) but i need a solution. I have researched this for hours and hours with no solution so far. If I have to pay $$ for it fine I will but after I recover my data that way I will be going to samsung... anyone with a solution would be greatly appreciated... any solution...

that makes no sense... it was only doing an update... if that's the case it should have promted me to back up first if this is even possible... there is a program that says it can recovery anything that hasn't been written over yet.. so would this not work? http://www.iphone-data-recovery.com/iphone-data-recovery.html   or would the apple store be able to recover it??? i've done plenty of data recovery on computers... why wouldn't it be possible on an Iphone... does apple seriously not care about thier customers at all??? how about thier employees that are gonna get more than an earful tomorrow when I walk in there store??? No wonder samsung paid 2 million to apple in pennies when they got sued... (how does it feel to be screwed with apple?!)

  • Ost. I am now presently online with my IPAD 2 connected to one of the USB slots in my laptop. How do I go about "Restoring" myself the 3G feature of my IPAD 2? I hope you can help me without my going back to that Apple Store I mentioned before.

    Dear Sir/Madam:
            Good day!
I went to an Apple Store here in Legazpi City, Philippines and inquired from a store attendant about the problem of my IPAD 2 which lost its 3G feature after I downloaded the iOS7 operating system which she said needed to be "Restored" at a cost.
I am right now trying to "Restore" my IPAD2 to have the former 3G feature return and my IPAD2 is currently connected to one of the USB slots of my laptop.
Please help me how to go about it so I may be able to do it myself if it is possible.

  • How do i back up files when my ipod needs to be restored?

So my ipod will connect to my computer, but not to itunes because it needs to be restored. I looked up how to restore the ipod and it says that if I do restore it then all my files will be lost. It also says to make sure that I backup any music files and videos before I restore it. I don't really care for my music or video files because it's in my itunes library, but I care about the videos I recorded using the camera. I don't know how to backup those videos especially when it won't connect to itunes. At the most it'll connect to my computer charging and my computer will recognize that there's something connected, but it won't show up. Can someone please help me?

Note that iPod backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music.

  • I keep getting the message on iTunes that my Shuffle (which is current on updates) needs to be restored.  It is showing up in devices, but when I try to add songs to it, I don't get the little progress bar showing me that the song is being added. ***?

I updated to the new iTunes last week.  Today I plugged in my 4th generation Shuffle to add some new songs.  The shuffle appears in Devices, but when I try to add songs, I'm not getting the progress bar at the top of the screen, so I'm assuming the song isn't being added.  I tried ejecting the Shuffle and plugging it in again, and I got a message that my iPod needed to be restored before it could be used with iTunes -- even though the screen also said the Shuffle is up to date on the software. I finally gave in and restored it, but I continue to get the same message.  When I eject the iPod and try to play it now, I'm getting nothing, and when it is connected to the usb port, the orange light is continually flashing.  I've been trying to figure this out for about 3 hours now, so if anyone could help me, I'd be eternally grateful!

The 1st and 2nd gen shuffles do not have an automatic syncing mode, like later shuffles and the "big" iPods.  It is maintained manually (or by using the Autofill feature).
If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The shuffle appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES, when connected.
To add songs to the shuffle...  Show a list of songs in the iTunes window.  For example, you can select Music under LIBRARY (in the sidebar) to show your complete iTunes music library list.  Select a song and drag it to the shuffle in the sidebar.  You can do this with more than one song selected.  Alternately, select the song(s), right-click the selection, and choose the command to Add to Playlist -> [name of iPod].
To remove songs from the shuffle...  Select the shuffle in the sidebar.  To the right, it's Settings screen is shown.  Toward the top, where it says Settings, click on On This iPod (to the right).  The list of songs on the shuffle is shown below.  Select the song you want to remove and press Delete on the keyboard.  You can do this with more than one song selected.

Hi, this is my first post here as I've encountered a new issue I have been unable to find any answers for. I searched here and on Google repeatedly but a solution has yet to be found (for me).
A little over a week ago I updated my iTunes to the newest version, and soon after, when I plugged in my iPod, iTunes told me that it couldn't read the contents of my iPod and that it needed to be restored. I immediately freaked out and disconnected the iPod to find that it said I no longer had any music on it. I plugged it back in and was able to dive into the folders and see that there was, in fact, music on it. So I copied everything off the iPod, restored it, and reloaded everything back on, which took about eight hours total.
I thought maybe the new version of iTunes screwed up my iPod, so I installed a previous version and got the same result, so I restored and reloaded again. Today I brought my (fully loaded) iPod to work to test on my laptop, which does not even have iTunes on it, and when I ejected and disconnected it, it once again told me it had no music on it and was restored to factory settings.
Does anybody know what's going on here, or how I can remedy this problem!? I really do not want to have to wait 4+ hours to reload my iPod every single time I plug it in to my computer. It isn't that old, isn't damaged that I know of, and I am clueless as to why it must be restored continuously. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

Doublechecking something known to cause those symptoms.
By any chance, do you have a copy of WinAmp installed on that PC?
If so, try slim's suggestion from the following post:
