Need clarification on exact size/amount of Artic Silver to apply on AMD64 3000+

I am installing the OEM HSF on my AMD64 3000+ winchester CPU using Artic Silver and I need a bit of clarification about the size/amount of the Artic Silver blob that I need to put on the CPU heat spreader.
EDIT - I'm reading the Artic Silver instructions right now from the website:
Quote
Only a small amount of Arctic Silver is needed
P4- About the size of an uncooked grain of short-grain white rice or 2/3 of a BB.
Athlon64- About the size of one and a half uncooked grains of short-grain white rice or 3/4 of a BB.
Could someone give me a diameter in millimetres (mm) or something? I'll go look for some rice in the house, but anyways......lol... :P
For clarification, I want to be sure I put the proper amount of AS on the heat spreader. I don't really know how big a BB is exactly. Is a BB a ball bearing or a "BB" used in bb guns? I'm guessing the size I should use is around 3 or 4 mm? Could someone clarify this for me before I go ahead?
How much AS should I apply to the heat spreader? How big should the round blob of AS be?
thanx,

Ok, but using a peice of paper may introduce dust, lint or paper particles. They don't even say to spread the AS compound around at all, they just say:
Quote
9. On an Intel P4 or Athlon64 type CPU with a large metal heat spreader, put a small amount of Arctic Silver onto the center of the heat spreader as shown in the photo.
Only a small amount of Arctic Silver is needed
P4- About the size of an uncooked grain of short-grain white rice or 2/3 of a BB.
Athlon64- About the size of one and a half uncooked grains of short-grain white rice or 3/4 of a BB.
10.   RECHECK to make sure no foreign contaminants are present on either the bottom of the heatsink or the top of the CPU core. Mount the heatsink on the CPU per the heatsink's instructions. Be sure to lower the heatsink straight down onto the CPU.
Once the heatsink is properly mounted, grasp the heatsink and very gently twist it slightly clockwise and counterclockwise one time each if possible. (Just one or two degrees or so.)
Please note that some heatsinks cannot be twisted once mounted.
Our testing has shown that this method minimizes the possibility of air bubbles and voids in the thermal interface between the heat spreader and the heatsink. Since the vast majority of the heat from the core travels directly through the heat spreader, it is more important to have a good interface directly above the actual CPU core than it is to have the heat spreader covered with compound from corner to corner.
So they say to put a little tiny blob on there and just attach the heatsink right on there. I am guessing that the attaching of the heatsink does the work of spreading the compound and avoids voids..lol..if you excuse the pun.

  • Need clarification on Bigfile Tablespaces

In the following Oracle Documentation Lirbary PDF,
        Oracle® Database
        Concepts
        10g Release 2 (10.2)
        B14220-02
        October 2005
    section
        Overview of Tablespaces
        Bigfile Tablespaces (page: 3-5)
    it says,
        Benefits of Bigfile Tablespaces
        * Bigfile tablespaces can significantly increase the storage capacity of an Oracle database. Smallfile tablespaces can contain up to 1024 files, but bigfile tablespaces contain only one file that can be 1024 times larger than a smallfile tablespace. The total tablespace capacity is the same for smallfile tablespaces and bigfile tablespaces. However, because there is a limit of 64K database for each database, a database can contain 1024 times more bigfile tablespaces than smallfile tablespaces, so bigfile tablespaces increase the total database capacity by 3 orders of magnitude. In other words, 8 exabytes is the maximum size of the Oracle database when bigfile tablespaces are used with the maximum block size (32k).
I need clarification on how to arrive at 8 exabytes ?
    1024 x 32k x 64,000 ??
According to the exerpt above, there's no mention of maximum number of Operating System blocks per extent. Unless this was assumed knowledge ... how do I get 8 exabytes ?
And if "a database can contain 1024 times more bigfile tablespaces than smallfile tablespaces", then what's the upper limit on smallfile tablespaces ? -- was this sentence referring to the number of datafiles per smallfile tablespace ? ...
    O_o
    Thanks !

    Hi,
According to [url http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/limits002.htm#i287915]Physical Database Limits page, a bigfile tablespace contains only one datafile or tempfile, which can contain up to approximately 4 billion ( 232 ) blocks. The maximum size of the single datafile or tempfile is 128 terabytes (TB) for a tablespace with 32K blocks and 32TB for a tablespace with 8K blocks. In resume, A bigfile tablespace is a tablespace containing a single datafile that can be as large as 128 terabytes (TB), depending on the block size of the tablespace. In conjunction with setting the initialization parameter DB_FILES to the maximum value of 65,635 the total size of the database can be more than 8 exabytes (EB)
    >>how do I get 8 exabytes ?
You can calculate the maximum amount of space (M) in a single Oracle database as the maximum number of datafiles (D) multiplied by the maximum number of blocks per datafile (F) multiplied by the tablespace block size (B):
M = D * F * B. Therefore, the maximum database size, given the maximum block size and the maximum number of datafiles, is:
    65,535 datafiles * 4,294,967,296 blocks per datafile * 32,768 block size = 9,223,231,299,366,420,480 = 8EB.Cheers

  • Clarification on tax base amount

    Hello SAP Gurus
I need some clarification on tax base amount.
when we make PO, there is a base amount of material and has excise conditions. now when we do MIGO with capture & post excise, one excise tab comes in item details, which shows all the duty values and tax base amount.
is this base amount & duties in MIGO are coming from PO?
if i change tax base amount and duties values in MIGO, what will be the impact?
if i change only duty values not tax base amount in MIGO, what will be the impact?
when we do MIRO, system proposes amount from PO, when we simulate, from where the excise duty values are flowing from PO or MIGO?
in MIRO screen, does system calculate the duties based on the amount coming in MIRO or it picks data from MIGO?
i need above clarification because i am not able to post vendor invoices during MIRO, system shows "The tax amount must not be greater than the tax base". this is happening, when we are posting over value vendor invoices.
during MIGO, in some case duty values have been changed keeping tax base amount as per PO, in some case tax base amount and duty values both have been changed based on vendor invoice. pl help.
    thanks & regards'

    Hi
I have already done that in VKOA, accounting document showing tax code, tax amount, GL account except Base amount.

  • Need clarification on issue with tablespaces

    Hi All,
I needed clarification on this issue with tablespaces.I am following a guideline which says "Presently,The general rule of thumb is to concentrate on tablespaces that are 90% or greater used and have less than 2 GB of free space"
My Scenario:-Now i have tablesace which is 97.23 % and the free space is 10 gb.Please advise me that whats the best next step I can take in this respect?
I am very new to this and just following the guideline,so can you all please explain me some details about this.
    Thanks

Well, the guideline says "*and* have less than 2 GB of free space"
Since that tablespace as 10GB of free space, the guideline says that you do not need to concentrate on it. Eh ?
I would be careful with guidelines that are hard-coded in this manner. You need to know the context in which the guideline was set.
Assuming that your database/application doesn't grow suddenly by 1GB or larger (or create temporary segments / objects of 1GB or larger), the "2 GB of free space" might make sense. Then, again, it depends on the extent allocation type. What size are extents getting allocated.
You should check with your organisation's senior DBAs on what happens if you don't concentrate on a tablespace because it is outside the guidelines !

  • Copying a shape to an Exact size in PSE

I'm trying to place photos within a film strip and make each one an exact size to fit. I was told to select the first photo, then hit inverse and select the second photo and hit delete. Instead of it making it the exact size it removes the photo ( second one) from the film strip. Why is that happening??

    Hi Terri,
    With the filmstrip image open,
open the images of the people you wish to add,
Cascade so you can see all the images, or minimize them,
    then,
Select the first person, what you do next depends on if you want the
person on a transparent background or if you want to include the
    original background,
    if you want the background,
using the Rectangular Marquee Tool select the area of the image you
want & Edit, Copy, make the filmstrip image active & Edit Paste.
    Repeat for each person;
Each person will be on their own Layer of the filmstrip image so you
can shrink or stretch them to fit. It will be easier to get the look
of the people being on the filmstrip if you move the Background image
to the top of the Layer stack.
    > When I do that her pic disappears.
Because you need to Select, Inverse, Delete for each image before
    selecting the next image.
    Alex,

  • Can I resize to an exact size in Bridge when exporting with the export panel?

I need to create and export jpegs to an exact size: 5700 pixels lonmgest side. I used to do this using the 'fit image' command in photoshop. However, if I enter 5700 into the export panel box it converts to just below it, as it's a 'fit to' box.
Any ideas? as i'm testing. If this is possible without photoshop then we will be able to encorperate bridge CS5 into our company workflow. Thank you

You do get rounding errors in Bridge this is normally 1 pixel less, so this needs to be fixed by the Bridge team.
There are no other parameters..  bitmapDataObj.resize(dimension[, quality])

    Hi,
I am new to HFM.Can any one help me that How many servers are generally needed to a medium size HFM project? And details that servers are for what segments?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
You can use one serwer only for everything (provided that you use classic application).
Number of servers depends on the number of planned applications, the number of users, number of entities, number of accounts, the amount of calculation...

  • Exporting exact size image file

    CS3/4
Can anyone tell me now to go about setting things up so that if I export my work to an image format like *.psd... I can predetermine the exact size the image will be?
I've groped around in the help file but this kind of thing is hard to nail down the search strings that will unearth something.  So far I haven't.
That goes ditto for google too.  Seems like there are too many things matching the needed key words.
I see 2 things in the export dialog itself which probably has bearing on final size.  Those are the check box of whether to include artboard or not and more important the resolution to save at.
But still seems no way to know in advance what it will be.
I have found that if I stay with screen resolution (72) then the final output will be very close to the same size as the artwork itself.  Just with in
    rounding of decimals in fact.
So is there some nifty formula to get the exact size a 150 or 300 Resloution image will be?

it sounds like youre perhaps misunderstanding the relationship of size and resolution.  72 is screen or web resolution which is why it "looks" the same.
if exporting from AI to psd, use the Image>Image Size option in photoshop.
    •  if you are using for web then use the "Save For Web & Devices" feature under "File". You get a lot of options on file type and size.
Uncheck "Clip to Artboard" if you only want to export the visible images.
If you are using masks, you may want to use the crop tool to select exactly what you want to export, and then you can set exact sizes in the "Image Size" tab. Dont forget to constrain proportions.
    •  if you want to print a file then the size is "set" at the size you dictate in the "image size" and the resolution affects how good it looks when it prints out.

  • How to print an exact size in illustrator

I have reproduced a very detailed map that I now want to print. The original was based on a scanned version that measures in PS 36 X 45 inches or 10440 X 13920 px. I want one copy to be at the larger size and it does not need to be exact. I want a second print to exactly match the original at 15.92 inches wide. I don't see how to get this exact size print in AI and since I will be taking this to an outside printer I thought it would be nice if I knew how to get this exact size print.

    Richard,
Your description of what you have done and your requirements are not clear. All the responses thus far involve some degree of guessing.
I have reproduced a very detailed map that I now want to print.
What do you mean by "reproduced"? Traced it as vector paths in Illustrator? Reworked it in Photoshop?...?...?
The original was based on a scanned version that measures in PS 36 X 45 inches or 10440 X 13920 px.
Okay. You have a 10440 x 13920 pixel raster image.
Those proportions do not scale to 36 x 45 inches.
    They scale to 33.75 x 45 or 36 x 48.
I want one copy to be at the larger size and it does not need to be exact.
    What "larger size"?
What do you mean by "a copy"? How is this going to be printed? Offset lithography? One-off large format inkjet printer?...?
Assuming we're talking about offset, sheetfed, CMYK printing the raster image combined with some native Illusrator artwork, do this:
    1. Open the image in Photoshop. Perform whatever raster retouching you want. Perform whatever color correction you want. When all rework of the image itself is done, be sure you end up in CMYK mode. Save the file in Photoshop format as "Original".
    2. ReSIZE it to the desired print scale. Crop it to the area you want to print, plus at least .125" extra on any side that bleeds. ReSAMPLE it to 1-to-2 times the halftone screen ruling that will be used when it is printed. Flatten layers. Remove any extra channels. Sharpen it appropriately. Save in TIFF format, as "LargeMap".
    3. Set up a new Illustrator document an appropriate size. "Appropriate size" depends upon the printing setup and whether there are bleeds. You can set the Artboard size to the size of the press sheet (assuming sheetfed printing), or to the trim size plus any bleed, plus room for any trim or fold marks you want to include.
    4. Import the raster image. Position it correctly relative to the trim marks or guides. Put it on its own layer and lock the layter.
    5. Draw the native Illustrator stuff on Layer(s) above it.
    6. Save as Press Ready PDF.
I want a second print to exactly match the original at 15.92 inches wide.
For best results, open the cleaned up, full-res image you saved and named as "Original" in step 1. Then repeat steps 2 (saving it as "SmallMap") through 6.
I don't see how to get this exact size print in AI
You can scale a raster image that you have placed in Illustrator, just as you would scale any other object. For example, assuming the image you place is the original 10440 x 13920 scan. You could simply turn on the proportional link in the Transform palette, and set the width to, say 15.92 inches. But that would scale the image to a grossly oversampled 656 ppi.The excess data would simply get averaged away in the imaging process, resulting in a slight blurring and "muddying" of the image. (In other words, it would effectively undo your careful sharpening.)
and since I will be taking this to an outside printer I thought it would be nice if I knew how to get this exact size print.
Raster images should be sampled so as to achieve a ppi that is appropriate to the specific printing method, when scaled to the printed size. Too many people just offhandedly say to "make everything 300 ppi". That is just a corruption of the general rule-of-thumb mentioned above in step 2: Sample your images so that their effective ppi is 1-to-2 times the halftone ruling.
Assuming the common 150 lpi halftone, 225 ppi would be considered dead center of that range, not 300 ppi. 150 ppi is the "low side" of the range; 300 is the "high side". When a range is given, you don't just automatically set everything at the "high side"; otherwise, there would be no reason for providing a range. (If your tires say the maximum inflation is 45 psi, is that the pressure you always use?).
The "high side" is not necessarily for "best results"; it's to allow some fudge room convenience if you decide to scale the image larger on page. Neither is the "low side" necessarily "worst results" or "borderline results": It depends on the image. For example, there is no reason to set a soft-edged drop shadow at higher than the halftone ruling. There is no sharp detail to worry about preserving; the only concern is to avoid visible pixelation, which will not occur if sampled to the halftone ruling. (One round halftone dot cannot render the square shape of a single pixel.)

  • Opening SWF to its exact size in HTML (ASP page)

    Hi,
I have one popup window to open any SWF. User clicks a button
from some other page and the file name is passed to this popup
window through parameter. The popup window itself is sized at 100%
to accomodate with any SWF file.
For the SWF object, if width and height parameters are
missing, the animation has a default size, if width and height are
specified at 100%, the animation is resized much bigger...
Is it possible to find the exact size of the SWF (either by

size, either using VB variables when the page is built or with
Javascript once the page is loaded ?

  • Need help in analyzing size of a table

    Hi,
We have a table DUMMY_TABLE which has a clob column. We need to reduce the size of the table by updating the clob column. The table statistics before updating the clob column is showing 2MB of size as mentioned below. After we run the update script to update the clob column, the table statistics are as shown below (table size increased to 33MB). Can you please let us know, why is the table size getting increased after the update script.
Note: Before the update script the clob column has even bigger data.
    Before running the update script:
    Table Size - 2 MB
    Blocks - 256
    Extents - 17
    After
    running the update script:
    Table Size - 33 MB
    Blocks - 4224
    Extents - 48
The query which we run to get the statistics is: “SELECT * FROM user_segments WHERE segment_name LIKE 'DUMMY_TABLE'”
Update script for updating clob column is:
    DECLARE
    data1 clob;
    BEGIN
    data1 :='Dear <%UserFirstName%>,

  • Need to know the size of the variable declared as Xstring

    Hi All,
I have got all the files from the applications server(for a given path) and have zipped all in to one file. But now need to find the size of it and throw a error message if it is less than a byte.
Variable whick holds all the zipped data is " zip_content ". it is declared as " data: zip_content type xstring ".
Not sure how to get the size of the variable " zip_content ".
When checked around found FM : EPS_GET_FILE_ATTRIBUTES but this requires File name or path. In my case I have only the
    variable.
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards
    Jithu

    Hi,
    When using
    data: l_cnt type i.
    l_cnt = xstrlen( g_zip_content ) .
xstrlen will return only in byte mode and not in character mode.
Thus the value l_cnt = 12112 which you got is in bytes which can be used to check your condition.

Do I need to export multiple sizes for all standard print sizes? i.e.Say I crop the image in LR to 6'5" x 9' to fit within an 11" x 14" (overall) mat of a framed print.. Now let's say I want to reprint that same image in a 12" x 16" size ... to fit within a mat of with overall size of 20" x 24"? Or will the 1st export be "locked" at 6.5" X 9" (proportionately)?

So, for the first one Export it cropped to 6.5 x 9 - and in the Export Dialog box there is a capability to rename the file for exported output - which would allow you to add something like the crop or intention to the base name of the file.  e.g. for _IMG0846.nef - setup the output filename to _IMG0846-65x9 for 11x14.jpg and output it at, say 300 or 360 dpi.  So, it has a unique name and purpose in your output folder.
For best results, now, re-crop the picture in LR - just open the crop [R] dialog again, reframe the image to the new ratio, 12x16 and Export again - with an adjustment to the filename. e.g. _IMG0846-12x16 for 20x24.jpg
So, now you have two clearly identified image files in your output area and you can provide those to whomever is printing for you, etc.  Discard them when you're done since you always have the original to return to to re-frame again as necessary.
This way you get output sharpening and resolution (in pixels) optimized for your output print size.  Maybe not super important for smallish prints-but more important for larger ones.   Output at 100 quality.
