Need clarity on how RDP CALs work in workgroup environment

Hi,
One of our customer has purchased 5 CAL licenses for RDP. They don't have any windows server in house to deploy licensing server and all the machines are connected in workgroup. Please let me know how can they utilize the CAL licenses available. The licenses
which they purchased are reflecting in VLSC portal, but don't have a product key for same. Please help.
Regards,
Harishkumar. R

Hi Harish,
Can you clarify, which RDS CAL purchased by your customer (Per User or Per Device)? From your description it seems they purchase, Per User RDS CAL. If so then it is not possible as
Per User CAL is not supported in workgroup environment (we need to have domain joined environment) otherwise need to install per device CAL.
Please consider the following points while configuring RDS and RDS licensing servers in a workgroup environment:
• We can use ONLY Per Device CALs in a workgroup environment.  So, you should install only Per Device CALs on RDS licensing server
• Per User CAL tracking and reporting is not supported in workgroup mode
• RDS Host and RDS licensing server roles can both be installed on the same server
• If you install RDS licensing server on a different server in the workgroup, ensure that the RDS server is able to access RDS licensing server

  • I need to show how colour separations work by gradually combining four single-coloured clips in the time line?

Hi, I need to demonstrate how colour separations work in the printing process, by animating the additions of each single colour plate to the overall picture. I have four jpegs, one of each colour, plus black, and I want to animate each one on the timeline to simulate the addition of each colour to the printed page. How can I do this? Thanks in advance. Phil

Video and print do not work in the same way. Video uses additive color, print uses a subtractive method.
You will have to fake it. Choosing a simple dissolve and combine method, you would also need the interim stages, say a Cyan + Yellow plate and a Cyan + Yellow + Magenta plate, eventually dissolving into the full color version.
Another way: Have each of the 4 plates appear one after the other on a quad split screen. Allowing time for an explanatory narrative, simultaneously have the 4 plates grow to full screen and move into position. At this point, you can quickly fade to a full color plate.

  • I need information on how Adobe Drive works and how to set it up

    Hey folks,
believe it or not, but I have been searching a lot on the web already on how to find information how Adobe Drive works and how to set it up.
Most information that I found is old and seems to be valid only for older versions of Creative suite. Here in the company we use CS5.5 and will switch to CS6 soon.
I already downloaded Adobe Drive 3 and installed it on my Mac. Unfortunately I don't know what to do next? Do I need Adobe CQ to make it work? Or can I use it with an existing SVN infrastructure, that we have here? Actually I would like to access the SVN via Adobe Bridge. But after the installation of Adobe Drive my Bridge CS5.5 is crashing while starting up, and I didn't find out how to fix this again.
Actually I just found the manual for Adobe Drive 3 and read it. Seems to be easy in case its working. But it's not in my case, as mentioned above.
Any idea what could be the problem?

    Thanks,
in the meantime I managed to re-setup Adobe Drive 3 again. Bridge CS5.1 is still crashing (i have a log-file with a detailed error-report, if somebody knows how to extract information from this.
At least now I can start Drive as a standalone application.
So now my main question is how to connect Drive 3 to our subversion infrastructure in the company. Does anybody have information on this?

  • Need to understand how ioctl errors work.

I'm trying to understand how ioctl errors work. Who is responsible for returning a -1 for an error and passing the actual error number in errno? Do the functions miocack and miocnak play any part in this? Where can I find a desciption of miocack, miocnak?

    Hi
The return value of ioctl is dependent upon the called device
control function. If for some reason the ioctl is not able to
call the corresponding device control function then a return
value of -1 is returned by the kernel and the errno set to
    indicate the type of error.

  • Need reminder of how this all works!

Hello. Haven't been dealing with my i web sites at all for a couple of years, so my head is totally out of how I originally set all this up- like I'm starting from scratch. What I'm dealing with today: I have sample audio clips set up, as on this page:
    http://www.jimsavage.net/THE_JOURNEY_REVIEW.html
I noticed today that some of the clips were'nt working so I was in there editing the html codes; where did I get the code that i pasted in those snippets?
(I copy/pasted code from one song/snippet to another to determine where the problem was; I figured it out, lost the original song's code by mistake.
    Thanks

The DBA would have documented how DG is setup / monitored.
Else, read the DataGuard Administration Guide for the version you are running.

  • How DNS Server works with workgroup machines

    Hi All,
I have 1 AD with DNS Server and few machines are in workgroup. I have given my network IP to this machines including Primary, Alternate DNS Server. I am able to use ping -a command to resolve IP address to Computer Name. I have tried to search this workgroup
machines DNS entries on DNS Server but no use.
Please suggest how to check this records & clear stale records
    Thanks & Regards,
    Amol Bhosale

    Hi,
When you join a computer to a domain, the Primary DNS Suffix is automatically configured, which matches the name of the AD DNS domain name, which should also be identical to the DNS zone name. However, workgroup computers normally do not have a Primary
DNS Suffix, unless you’ve already manually configured all of them.
I assume that you didn’t configure the Primary DNS suffix for the workgroup computer, right? That would be the reason that there is no DNS record for the workgroup computer in DNS server.
    Please manually
add the primary DNS suffix on the client and check “Use this connection’s DNS suffix in DNS registration” on the workgroup computer in Advanced TCP/IIPv4 Settings, then change the Dynamic Update type to “Nonsecure and secure” in DNS.
If that workgroup computer is DHCP enabled, you can also use DHCP server to force register all leases by following Ace’s article below:
DNS Dynamic Updates in a Workgroup
    Best regards,
    Susie

  • Question on how Bex transports work

I need help understanding how Bex transport works.  We transport from Dev -> Q for testing -> Prod.  I make a change to Calc1 in Qry1 and transport to Q in Transport1.  During testing they decide Calc2 needs to be changed also.  So I  change Calc2 in Dev and collect all query elements in transport2 and transport to Q.  Now it is ready to go to Prod.  Do I have to send Transport1 and then Transport2 or will both changes be in Transport2?  Can I only send Transport2?
When I collect all query elements for a transport does it collect everything that is there at the time or does it only pick up things that have changed?

    Hi SJB,
Yes it will collected, all query elements will be collected.
You can also check in your transport request, Double click on request and see elements in it. Or from Transport connection also you can see all objects.
    Hope it Helps

  • How complete refresh works internally?

    How complete refresh works internally?
We have 2 databases A and B. A is the master database and B is replica of A. Basically we want to implement complete refresh mechanism for our database A and B at some time mid night.
I need to know, How complete refresh works internally?
Actually we need our replica database up and running 7X24 for users and definitely we cannot effort any down time for that database.
Now I would like to know:
1.How complete refresh works internally? Whether complete refresh truncate all the tables first from Replica database and then insert or any other mechanism is there.
2.If complete refresh truncate all tables from replica database, how can we make sure about the complete availability (7X24) of our replica database.
Any input is going to help a lot.

  • How many CALs do i need? Server 2012 - Exchange 2013 - RDP

    Hi,
(I apologize for the grammar and spelling mistakes, but im confident in the fact that the text is understandable. If not, please let me know. I have used UK English for spelling.)
I did some research and read the following:
(unable to post links, my email needs to be 'verified')
And some MS pages regarding the CALs for Windows 2008 R2 (don't ask why).
This is basically what i want to do:
    OS:
Windows 2012 R2, possibly 2x because of the RDS role.
Roles Server1:  Active Directory and Exchange 2013
Roles Server2: File server and RDS
    Users:
    20
    PC’s:
Approx. 15. Not sure about the exact numbers, but i am sure that there are more users than client pc’s.
    Users RDP:
Starting with 10 but eventually every user will be using RDP, so it might be also 20. The 10 we start with will not have the ability of logging into a client PC but RDP only.
MS Software:    Outlook 2010 or 2013, depends on the support by MS.
We are going to start with an AD with a home folder, roaming profiles and an email account. If everything go’s whell, we plan to start letting users connect tot heir workspace via RDP.
I came to the following conclusion and need your input on this:
20 User CALs, As far as i know, I need 1 user cal for an AD account and a RDP cal for
one RDP account. Without a User CAL, i cant issue a RDP user cal, is this correct?
20 RDP User CALs, does this mean that all my users can log into a RDS session via any client, even their own private pc?
    No Device calls, redundant?
20 Exchange CALs, I am not sure about this one, the second link i found only mentions acces via web and mobile. I would also like to know if the Exchange CAL is per user or email. If it’s per user, then wat do i do with an email that is meant for multiple
    users?
2 Server CALs, This is just buying 2012R2 isnt it? Does this also allow me to use one physically and the other as a VM in the physical one? Just asking, im not really going to use a VM.
Hope you guys can help me out on this one, i didn’t expect the CALs would bet his complicated.

    Hi,
Under Per User licensing, you need a license for each unique human that will access the software.  Based on what you have written above, below is a general description of the licenses you need:
20 Per User Windows Server CALs
    20 Per User RDS CALs
20 Per User Exchange Standard CALs
1 Exchange Server 2013 Standard license
    2 Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard licenses
    Notes:
Each Server 2012 R2 Standard license allows you to install it on a physical server (up to 2 CPU sockets) with the Hyper-V role installed, and install it in 2 VMs.  The key here from a licensing perspective is the installation on the physical server
is only being used for Hyper-V--if you use it for some other purpose (like AD, SQL, etc.) then you are only permitted to run 2012 R2 on 1 VM without an additional license.  Running your servers as VMs is the common and recommended method now, unless
you have a specific reason not to.
I listed two 2012 R2 licenses above because from your description I get the idea that you will have 2 physical servers.
It is preferred to split key roles/functions onto separate VMs if possible.  For example, it would be preferred to have Exchange on its own VM(s).  This is obviously subject to your specific situation, budget, etc.  In smaller environments
some roles will be combined in order to save money.
I did not include licenses for Office in the list above.
Yes, Per User licensing means the user can access the software from any device, even their own private pc.
I recommend you purchase licenses through a MS volume licensing program that fits your needs.  Adding Software Assurance (SA) to your licenses will allow you to get the new versions when they are released as well as give some additional licensing rights.
As always, it is essential to read the Product Use Rights (PUR) document, licensing agreements, terms and conditions, etc., as applicable to your licenses.
I recommend you also take a look at the Office365 plans that include Office/Exchange/etc.  There are Exchange-only plans as well.  Depending on your needs it may be preferred to have your users access Exchange in the cloud and run RDS on premises.

My daughter bought my ipad 2. She manages all our apple devices on her computer. She purchased a i cloud package for her phones but it is showing on my ipad. I have my own apple ID now, and I download apps and songs from Itunes all the time on my own id. However her I cloud is on my ipad. Originally when she bought the Ipad, she set it up on her ID, She used the ipad for awhile before she got a new one. I am using this one now. She can track my ipad if I loose it. It still shows as one of her devices. Can I get my own I cloud?

Yes of course. Jsut go to "Settings > iCloud" delete her account from your device and then start creating a new one just for you.
