  • What steps do i need to take to upgrade from OS X 10.5.8 to Lion?

    Hi
Does anyone know what steps I need to take to upgrade from OS X 10.5.8 to Lion?
    Lisa

First check to see if your Mac meets the basic system requirements for Lion:
    General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space

Once you have satisfied yourself that you have the hardware to run it then you can take the next steps which will be to get upgraded to Snow Leoppard in order to have the App Store on the computer.

I have the license for upgrading CSM standard 25 to professional 50(CSMSTPR-U-4.0-K9).  Would like to know the upgrade procedure. Can I directly upgrade from the standard to professional with only the license upgrade or do i need to do a full/fresh instalaltion of Professional.  Pls. help.
    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi Rajeesh,
You only need to install your professional license on your standard setup and you should be good to go, no need to start from scratch.

  • HT1342 so how do i know if i need more ram? (upgrade from snow- mt. lion)

Here is the mac that i have. I want to upgrade from snow l. to mt, lion when it comes out. articles are saying that i will need 4gb even though the updae page says 2gb. how do i read the activity monitor to see if i need more ram for the update? or do i just need to wait, install teh update, and then check? I want to get this all done in the next month so help would be great!

2 GBs is the minimum required. 4 GBs or more would be better. Your model supports up to 8 GBs.

Understanding top output in the Terminal
The amount of available RAM for applications is the sum of Free RAM and Inactive RAM. This will change as applications are opened and closed or change from active to inactive status. The Swap figure represents an estimate of the total amount of swap space required for VM if used, but does not necessarily indicate the actual size of the existing swap file. If you are really in need of more RAM that would be indicated by how frequently the system uses VM. If you open the Terminal and run the top command at the prompt you will find information reported on Pageins () and Pageouts (). Pageouts () is the important figure. If the value in the parentheses is 0 (zero) then OS X is not making instantaneous use of VM which means you have adequate physical RAM for the system with the applications you have loaded. If the figure in parentheses is running positive and your hard drive is constantly being used (thrashing) then you need more physical RAM.
Adding RAM only makes it possible to run more programs concurrently.  It doesn't speed up the computer nor make games run faster.  What it can do is prevent the system from having to use disk-based VM when it runs out of RAM because you are trying to run too many applications concurrently or using applications that are extremely RAM dependent.  It will improve the performance of applications that run mostly in RAM or when loading programs.

  • "Response Code" needed to install CS3 (upgrade from CS2) - cannot get through on 'chat'

How do I get a Response Code for installing CS3 (upgraded from CS2) on a new computer? I used to be able to call for the code but there is no phone support anymore. I have spent 3 days trying to connect through chat which is supposed to be available 24/7 and it says 'chat is unavailable at this time'. I have no way of installing my software. Please help adobe.

Okay so I spent a further 2 hours on hold this morning and actually forgot I was on hold until I heard the beep beep beep of disconnection!  GARRRRRR
Anyway, after a nice visit from my family to celebrate my birthday, i got back on the phone this afternoon.
5 minutes later I was speaking to a Technical Support guy who was extremely helpful, did not ask me to repeat trouble shooting steps I had already taken, listened to me carefully as I explained the problem and diagnosed, fixed and activated my software within 30 minutes.
Resolution of the problem:  they gave me an updater checker response code which worked immediately. Ctrl/Shift+dbl click on the broken update cheker page and up came a back door screen.  Just a few digits later  and PRESTO my software is up and running like a dream.  Activation was smooth and registration no problem.
    THANKS!!!
Now i just have to figure out how to tell Acrobat Prof 8 where the damn .dll is on my 64 bit vista computer - having already installed acrobat professional without telling it where to look because I didn't think the install was going to work anyway. Dang.
Off to the KB files for me.

  • I currently have 10.5.8 on my Intel desk top. What do I need to do to upgrade from this OS to the Newest version OS?

I currently have 10.5.8  OS  on my 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
My machine needs to be Up-Graded to the Newest OS.
But I get different opinions from everyone as to how to do this Up-Grade.
Can I just buy the Newest OS and install it.?
OR must I go thru all the previous OS up-grades first.?
OR do I just take this "old" machine to the Apple Store and Buy a New one and let them

Your machine appears to be a Early 2008 24" iMac (iMac 8,1) and even though you meet the minimal 2GB of RAM, you really should max it out at 6GB for the beast of Lions.
You have two slots, one can hold a 4GB module and the other 2GB.
    Maximum Memory
6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 200-pin PC2-6400 (800MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM
Use System Profiler to confirm your machine Model Identification and use Crucial.com checker to make sure your getting the right RAM spec.
Warning!, your current PPC based software will NOT run in 10.7 or 10.8+
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
This could be a very expensive upgrade, Snow Leopard, then Mountain Lion, more RAM and all new software all for a dated machine.
I'd say upgrade it to 10.6.8 max and perhaps add more RAM and stay there for best performance.
OS X 10.4/10.5 need to upgrade, 10.6.8 ok still
Yes, do consider a new one with 10.8, better to spend all the money on software there than on a dated machine.
    Good luck.

  • Need Urgent Help on Upgradation from 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.5

    Dear Gurus,
Please help out on this to get some documentation
Steps to Upgrade the DB version from 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.5--------
    a) What are the specific server patches, kernel parameters required
    b) Do we need to apply any application patches
    c) High level tasks required for achieving this.
    Thanks,

this is patching activity, which you should perform. first you should download the patch set#4(10.2.0.5) from oracle support and patches on this (CPU or PSU's). Then just follow the instructions given in the patch set readme file. the more generic steps can be described as below:
    1) back up your databases running under this oracle binaries
    2) back up your oracle_home
    3) back up your oracle inventory
    4) apply patch set, usually strightforward by invoking setup.exe
    5) in case of success, apply CPU's or PSU on the base of version 10.2.0.5
    6) perform the post upgrade tasks described in both patch set readme file and CPU's readme file. Usually first includes running catupgrd.sql and second the corresponding catcpu or similar named script.
    7) make the necessary checks to make sure upgrade were successfull(usually checking component's status via dba_registry or registry$history views)
    8) run utlrp.sql script to recompile invalid objects(this script usually needs to be run before upgrade/patching also, in case you have invalid objects on your database)

  • What steps do I need to take before UPGRADING from v29 back to v28, so that everything be back where I WANTED IT b4 ur #$%@ Molly Maids disguised...

... as programmers decided to WASTE MY WHOLE GD DAY trying to find, fix, move things back into the place THAT I WANT THEM TO BE?
I've already downloaded v28 but haven't installed it yet because I would like to know what will happen when I do? i.e. will all my bookmarks, tabs, addon's be automatically back in the place I originally had them??
OMG I'm so pissed off right now, I already sent in my feedback and I don't do this often, but wtf?! seriously! Whoever came up with this gd idea... oh wait, it's not even an idea because that would take some gd creativity, it's copying what that other shitty browser has. Need I even state the fact that if I wanted the NON-EFFIN-FUNCTIONALITY of that other browser, I wouldn't be using Firefox in the FIRST PLACE??? oops tangent... that person and the person that signed off on this POS should be fired!
Jeesus! I think a company should recognize who their customer is and I would hazard a guess and say that the Firefox user's aren't your typical, ladeedaaaaa, oh my goodness, there are too many options and buttons, they confuse me... can you just hide them all for me so it looks pretty....
Seriously, you didn't make FF better, this is akin to me walking into your house emptying all your drawers, cabinets and closets and moving them to where the 92 yr old woman around the block said would be better. Then laughing at silly you because you still think the way you had things actually worked for you. Please stop with the lame excuses, and how you know better, and the dreaded security risks lol as if there is any such thing as security anymore, and while I'm at it... all these company's stressing the fact that they're non-profit, doesn't mean they don't get paid, and quite well in most cases.
So when I install v28 will EVERYTHING be back to the way it was before? I've already backed up my profile from this crap version. If installing 28 again means I'm going to have to re-download all my addon's and bookmarks, etc...
Then it's been nice knowing you and I'll probably cry for months over this break up, unlike my recent breakup with google which was suprisingly much more of a relief after it was over. Oh and one more thing. For the moderators and for Mozilla....
Be thankful people are complaining, it means we still care about you. So please stop crying about the 'abuse' you take, try wasting a whole gd day looking for the silverware that used to be in the silverware drawer but is now buried underneath the 14th floor tile east of the front door because the old lady around the block said it would be %$^# safer there ARGHHHHHHH

I don't understand why they feel the need to adhere to the styles and functions of other browsers, there is a reason why the vast majority does not use safari/opera/chrome/ie, simply because we linked having everything set OUR WAY.
We want customization, without the hassle of having to FIX everything on update breaks.

  • Upgrade from oracle 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.2

We have a need to test the upgrade from oracle 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.2. For the 10.2.0.4 DB, we are not using RMAN for back-up. We are using manual file back-up of data files, archives etc.,
The OS is Suse 10 Linux or HP-UX 11.
If we want to use RMAN on the 11.2.0.2 DB, do we need to take any extra steps for RMAN before upgrade / after upgrade? Any relevant advice is welcome. thanks.

    1. Take all datafiles backup with current controlfile.
    2. Take all the archive logs backup before up gradation start.
    3. If possible take a cold backup as well.
    Regards

  • How do I upgrade from Lion to Snow Leopard?

Snow Leopard has this great feature called Expose which is a great improvement on Lion's App Expose (and Mission Control).
Can someone point me to the steps I need to take to upgrade from Lion to Snow Leopard?

Written just for you (ok it's a paste)
Back to Snow Leopard from Lion install method
Read and print out these instructions, your computer is going to be offline and you wil be cutoff from help until your machine is restored.
Clear the Desktop, Downloads and Trash of anything you wish to keep by placing their files in the respective Documents, Music, Pictures, Movie folders.
Disconnect other drives except the backup drive as to avoid any mistake.
Backup ALL your Users folders (Documents, Pictures, Movies, Music etc) manually (drag and drop methods) to a (not TimeMachine) external powered drive (HFS+ journaled formatted in Disk Utility) and disconnect, your going to be wiping the entire disk of ALL DATA. (warning, everything will be gone and not recovered, OS, programs, files, Windows etc all gone.)
Note: You might want to hold c and boot off the 10.6 installer disk and use Disk Utility to format the new blank external drive instead of using OS X Lion that's hosed. Then reboot into Lion and copy files, be safer that way perhaps.
    Here we go!
Hold c and boot off the 10.6 installer disk that comes with your computer and second screen in just STOP there, don't install OS X yet.
Look at the Utilities Menu for Disk Utility.
On the left is the name of your hard drive maker, click it and Erase (format HFS+ Journaled), give it the same drive name as before, and click Erase...
(note: if you want to "scrub" the drive of old files that haven't been overwritten yet, then use the Security Option > Zero Erase, takes a lot longer)
This should wipe the drive of ALL partitions (GUID, OS X and 10.7 Recovery, Windows if present)
When it's done, quit and install OS X 10.6. Then install all your programs from fresh sources and validate/update.
When you setup a first account, use the same user name as before, this way you can simply drag and drop the content of your previous Users folders from the external drive right back into the new Users folders and everything should work peachy. Links in iTunes to music, playlists and iPhoto links especially.
Update OS X to 10.6.8 using the Combo Update for best results.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
(Note: If your original machine had 10.5 and you want the free iLife that comes with the disks with the computer, then you'll have to install 10.5 first using the same c boot/erase/format methods as above, then update to 10.6 via the disk, then Combo Update 10.6.8)
Final step optional but highly recommended.
A lot of people use a Carbon Copy Clone of their boot drive to a new HFS+Journaled external drive (used only for this purpose) as a "hold the option key" bootable backup in case something goes wrong with their boot drive or need to restore to a previous OS X version..  (in addition to TimeMachine drive for more immediate backups.)
It's not advised to have a Bootable Clone and a TimeMachine partition on the same external drive, as two drives gives hardware protection in case one fails.

  • Upgrade from Panther to Leopard on PowerBook G4

    Hi-
I just bought Leopard (for $129 directly from apple) and am interested in knowing the steps I would need to take to upgrade from Panther (10.3.9) on a PowerBook G4 with the following specs:
    Machine Model: PowerBook G4 17"
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.5 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 512 MB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.8.4f1
I have 11 GB of disk space available.
Do I have the correct system requirements to make this transition seamlessly? Anything else I need to get?
    Thanks!

What's the difference between getting an external hard drive vs. the card? I'll definitely go with 160GB to be on the safe side.
See my reply in your other thread.
I keep reading that Archive&Install is giving people problems. Given my situation, would you recommend Upgrade or Archive&Install or Erase& Install?
I'm running Tiger and did not know that A&I was giving people problems on Leopard. If that's the case, I would definitely do the Upgrade (if that is an option like it has been on previous OSX installers).
My main thing is that I'm going to need to keep Office 2004 (which I learned should work on Leopard).
Given that, use the Upgrade method.
Unless... this may sound silly, but can I save it on disks or something? (I don't have the original install disks anymore).
That's not silly at all, and with some applications it will work. I do not know if that's the case with Office, but I would recommend against it. OSX often needs to "weave" parts of an app into itself via the installation, and copying the actual app will not do that. If you have a disk image of the installation disc, that's a different story, and it will copy/work fine.
Also, when I do the backup (via Super Duper?), where does all the stuff end up living? If it's on my hard drive, doesn't that get taken away when I replace it with the newer/bigger one?
I use SD and think it's the best cloning app out there. You need to save it on an external source, otherwise you're correct, it's still "living" on your PB's HD, and if you erase that HD or something happens to it, all that data is gone.
In your situation, I would consider either an external HD or an enclosure. With an external, you'll be able to use if for backups, which would be a very good idea if you value your data. 300GB and even larger can be found for under $100. I'd recommend a FireWire model, so you can then boot your PB from it if you want/need to.
If money is an issue and you choose not to backup (a bad idea, as all HDs eventually die), you may get an external enclosure. Install the new HD in it, SD/clone your PB's internal HD to it, install the new HD in your PB, and you're good to go. 2.5" enclosures can be purchased for under $10.

  • Rulebase Upgrade from 10.4.3 to 10.4.4

    Hi OPA Developers,
Our rulebase in Production was last upgraded to 10.4.3 in May 2013.  As we will be having another release and the latest OPA version is now at 10.4.4, are there any steps we need to take to upgrade from 10.4.3 to 10.4.4?  I could not find reference regarding this, or if there is an issue at all since they both fall under 10.4 versions.
The last upgrade that we did was 10.0 to 10.4.3, and this time it will be from 10.4.3 to 10.4.4 which is relatively minor.  Can you please advise the impact or any required steps?
    Thank you very much.

You should just be able to open your 10.4.3 rulebase in OPM 10.4.4 and rebuild the project.  Upgrade to the latest version from 10.4.3 should be relatively straight forward.
