Need design(forecast)

Hi Gurus,
We do forecast monthly for every 6 months. I need to report previous months(history) and current 6 months forecast data in the report. What is the best design for this requirement.
For example
First time I need to load forecast data from 01/2007 to 06/2007 6 months forecast data
Next month I need keep history one month data(01/2007) and load 6 months forecast data from 02/2007 to 07/2007.
Then again Next month I need to keep 01/2007, 02/2007 history and load 6 months data from 03/2007 to 08/2007.

One way would be to have two Infocubes and a Multicube between them.
In the first InfoCube (let's call it "History") you'll always load ONLY the current month.
In the second InfoCube (let's call it "Forecast") you'll always load the other 5 months, after deleting its content every month.
And you'll use the Multicube to report both.
So, for example, in 01/2007, you load "01/2007" in "History" and "02-2007 - 06-2007" in "Forecast".
Then in 02/2007, you just delete the content from "Forecast", then load "02/2007" in "History" and "03-007 - 07/2007" in Forecast.
That way, you'll have 01/2007 and 02/2007 in "History and the 03/2007 - 07/2007 in "Forecast".
And so on...
And, again, just report from the Multicube.
Deleting the "Forecast" Infocube shouldn't be an issue since you'll do it only once a month.
You also could use two ODS instead of teo Infocubes or one "History" Infocube and a "Forecast" ODS... It depends on the detail and volume of data.

Since OWB 10.2 there is only one Repository storing Design and Runtime-Components.

The Design Repository, installed in an Oracle database, stores the metadata definitions for all of the objects used in Warehouse Builder. This is where all of the design information is stored for the target systems you are creating. You can access metadata stored here using the client user-interface, or through OMB Plus, the Warehouse Builder scripting utility.
The runtime repository, installed in an Oracle database, stores all of the deployment data as well as data from executed mappings and process flows. This is where the target environment information is stored for the business intelligence systems you create. This includes connection information for all of the deployment locations.
Which version of OWB are you using?

Need Design Ideas

Hello Everyone and thanks for your help in advance. I am working on a site for my wife who is both a doctor and a lawyer. The site will be discuss medical legal issues and offer advice to both businesses and consumers. I ahve a very basic skeleton up that can be viewed at http://www.askdrdiana.com. My background is programming and not design, so I could really use some input for those less aesthetically challenged. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all for your comments and feedback. I am intrigued by Jacob's idea and think that has a lot of potential. As far as setting up the back-end content management system, I have already developed that portion in-house. As far as templates go, I would like to move away from that type of look since it is exactly that - a template. While I agree there are many good ones out there, they still have a caned look. I am open to getting outside help, but frankly, many of the ideas are very uninspired. John brought up a nice marketing site, but I found the logo portfolio they created at:

Need design solution : Closed bid Auction application

I am working on an online auction[closed-bid] web application.
I have to develop two modules, an administration module and actual auction module.
The Administration module should be able to manage the auction items.
The auction module runs the auction and takes the bid from the bidders for the auction items.
Administration domain:
     AuctionItem --> Category --> Specification Group --> Specifications
95'Honda --> Car --> General --> Make: Nissan
     All domain objects in the administration module are manageable units.
Auction domain:
     Bidder --> AuctionItem --> Category --> SpecificationGroup --> Specifications
Tom --> 95' Honda --> Car --> General --> Make: Nissan
Administration module will run on the intranet app server and Auction module will be on the internet app server.
How would I design this application?
Do I need to make two war files for each module and deploy them on the respective server?
Appreciate your feedbacks and suggestions.

I feel it is better to seperate the Admin from the application, ie two seperate war file on two seperate app server, this makes your application little more secure. provided your client is ready to invest in another server for the admin

What Brad explained above is that when you want to use the hosting and mail services provided by an external party e.g. Godaddy (not Business Catalysts) you need to create an A Record, using your hosting provider tools, that points to the data center where your site is located. Please find below the IPs for each data center:
54.252.148.183 or 54.252.148.191 for sites on the Australia data center
54.236.190.114 or 54.236.189.64 for sites on the United States data center
54.246.209.120 or 54.246.209.119 for sites on the European Union data center
So firstly you need to log in to the admin of your site and add the domain to use external hosting services - http://screencast.com/t/iV00iojmFfP
Then you need to create an A Record at your hosting provider that points to the IP shown in our DNS tool (as shown in the screenshot from above).
Please note that you need to create A Records for both @ and WWW records. For further assistance on this matter I suggest contacting your hosting provider as each one has their own workflow in terms of creating this records.

Ordered CS5 Design Premium UPG - Need Design Standard :(

I recently ordered an upgrade for CS3 to CS5 - I thought I had ordered the Design Standard UPG. Come to find out today that I actually ordered the Design Premium UPG. I have contacted the reseller that I bought the software from, but I'm already past the 15 day return so I doubt I'll get an exchanged. On top of that I know that the supplies for CS5 are dwindling in light of the CS5.5 upgrade. In fact I had to cancel my first order for the UPG from a separate reseller because they ran out of stock.
So my question is, are we basically screwed at this point? I don't want to dish out the extra bucks for the CS5.5 - I have no interest in 5.5. So it looks like I may be stuck with a Design Premium UPG that I can't use and no way to get the Design Standard UPG that I need
Ideas and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Bob - one more question. If by chance all copies of CS5 get sold this weekend and I get stuck with this Design Premium, am I correct in the assumption that when it asks for my upgrade SN during installation that my CS5 Design Standard SN will not work?
This software is planned for an as-of-yet hired hand. We've always just purchased Standard with the exception of my license, I'm the only one who does any web work. If the SN worked I may convince the boss to keep this one hoping that our new hire would have some use of DW and FL.

Need design issue help regarding database access..

I have an web application running on tomcat that will have access to a database connection pool. I have found a free java api that provides connection pooling. The code i will be using is:

I need to put the above code somewhere where all my beans and classes can access it easily. I thought i would create a static class called DBConnector and have a getConnection() method to return a connection from the pool. However i would want the DBConnector class to be initialised on tomcat startup so that all the database pool can be initialised then. I dont see how i can do this? I know i can make a servlet initialised on tomcat startup but if i put the above code in a servlet how will i access it in my beans and java classes. I wont have the request, response objects available.

You should not need to 'control' access to the pool via a static method. The pool itself is probably implemented as a Singleton anyway. BTW, what pool are you using? DBCP from Jakarta is popular, stable and free.
You use the Servlet's init() method for startup tasks and its destroy() method for clean-up tasks. Initialize your pool in the init() method of your Servlet. Simple. Just make sure you don't declare instance variables in your Servlet, can lead to thread-safety issues.

Achieving Parallelism and avoiding Concurrency - Need Design Advice

Requirement:
Extract Data from the database using SSIS.
Design Details:
There are two tables
ReportExtract and ReportExtractQueue. ReportExtract is a reference table and contains all the details related to the extracts.
ReportExtractQueue is a Queue Table designed for SSIS Package to process the extracts as per priority.
2. The SSIS Package, at any point of time picks up only one ReportExtractID to process from ReportExtractQueue where the ProcessingStatus = ‘Q’ and the Priority is High (in ascending order). This is achieved
by calling a stored procedure which has logic as below.

SELECT @ReportExtractID = (SELECT TOP 1 ReportExtractID
FROM ReportExtractQueue
WHERE ProcessingStatus = 'Q' -- InQueue

4. Scheduling for Parallel Execution:
Four copies of the same SSIS Package are copied to four different folders.
Four Jobs are created, each referring to a copy of the SSIS Package.
The Jobs are scheduled to run every 15 minutes to poll the Queue table through SSIS package.
The Start Time for all the Jobs is same.
Problem: Since all the Jobs start at the same time and run every 15 minutes. How do I ensure each job picks up a unique ReportExtractID from the Queue table. So far, from what i tested in the test
environments I have not faced this issue. But I want to avoid Concurrency Issues on the Queue table.
If I use the rowlock, readpast hints on the Queue table, will it resolve the Concurrency Issues (if any).
If yes, then should I use these hints even while updating the Processing Status? Should I follow any other design approach?.

The jobs will clash.
And the design is not scalabale.
SSIS is not the best solution here in general.
You better have the stored procedure pick records up and then run the processing package - many times, even in parallel - given this package
can tolerate multiple copies running. SQL Agent runs them in async mode, the package in Agent can start with sp_start_job

The report format is such: Dashboard Prompt => 'Month' Selection... say M1
If month not selected in the prompt then take the current month, say M1
Revenue
Month - 3 months 120
Month - 2 months 110
Month - 1 month 100
Taking M1 = Aug in above scenario:
Revenue
May 120
June 110
July 100
How should i show the previous months data in my report given a value for a month? In this case previous 1month, 2 month and 3 month.

Background: I am from a SCM background and wanted to familiarize myself with SCM software of SAP specifically for the SMB market.
What I want to learn: As mentioned above, the SCM solution of SAP for SMB market...all modules related to WM (Warehouse Management).
My interest in Architecture/Application: Both - technical as well as functional aspects of the SCM with a focus on WM.
From my perspective for SCM all modules of WM - Receiving, Putaway, Wave, Cross-Docking etc.

Hello Harsh,
Good to learn about your interest in knowing the WM side of SAP B1.
SAP Business One (out of the box) does not really have a WM / WMS module to handle the different aspects of the warehouse function.
This is being supplimented by a few Add-ons which provide this functionality to SAP B1.
RadioBeacon is one such addon from a company called Accellos based out of Toronto, Canada.
CitiXsys also has a WMS solution for Business One and that apart there are a few.
Pretty much all software would handle the basic WMS functions of Receiving, Putaway, Picking, Cross dock, Replenishment etc.
Unless you work with the specific Addon you would not have anything to learn on the SCM / Logistics / WMS side right out of Business One.

The drawing data will be extracted from a data file in a local machine.
Of course I can save it in the working directory then read it.
But I wouldn't do this way, I would prefer to design a dialog to position and open this file. After I select the file,the program will automately keep running.
Anybody can guide me an origention?(Java or JavaScript)

Its always better to split such data in to different cubes and create a multi cube for reporting. (Better query performance, flexibility for future maintenenace are few benefits). Best of luck !
