Need DHCP ending address to set up Guest network on Airport expressk

I have a 2wire modem router that I attached an Airport express to to resolve the issue of constant droppin gof the internet. The wireless and outing are turned off the 2 wire so it acts as a simple modem. I then was able to access the the section in Airport Utility to set up the Guest Network. When I change the net work from Bridged to Shared, I had errors for the beginning and ending DHCP #s. I have the beging number but have no idea what the ending number is or how where to look.

The error message is the DHCP range conflicts with the WAN IP address. The default range that was entered by the utility was 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.200. It does not like the begining or the ending address. i entered 192.168.1.254 (DNS server and router) and it accepts that s the starting  address.

  • How to set up Guest Network, while Airport Extreme is connected to Satellite Receiver

How to set up Guest Network, while Airport Extreme is connected to Satellite Receiver?

Depending on how you have your AirPort Extreme configured to work with the satellite receiver, it may or may not be possible to enable the Guest Network function.
We will need to check some settings on your Mac or PC, but in order to do that, we need to know what operating system you are using on your computer.
If you have a Mac, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the computer screen, then click About This Mac. Post back with the OS X Version number that you see there.

  • How to set up Guest Network, while Airport Extreme is connected to another router.

I have tried doing this by changing the Internet Settings in the Manual section of the AirPort Utility. When I set Connection Sharing to 'Share a public IP address', it tells me that the beginning and ending DHCP Addresses are conflicting with the Airport Extreme.
What would be a better way?

Thank you very much for your quick and clear response.
What would be the consequences if I disable the NAT & DHCP on the upstream router?
Btw, the reason that I use the AEBSn is that I have problems connecting ipad/ipod/iphone to the router provided by the telephone company (I'm living in Spain - and because of that we have a lot of visitors coming over). Besides that, I'm working with a MacBook Pro and to be able to be as mobile as possible, I have a hard disk for Time Machine connected to the AEBSn.
At the moment, the AEBSn is connecting the following to the Internet:
    - Ipod touch
    - Ipad
    - Iphone
    - 2 x MacBook Pro
    - AirBook
    - Old G4
    - Blu Ray player
    - HP Printer

  • Set up guest network?

I just set up new time capsule, no problems , up and running.
Going from Airport Extreme to Time Capsule.
On Exteme I had a Guest network, I cannot figure out how to
set up Guest Network with Time Capsule, arrgggh!
    Any suggestions? Model #A1470
    Thanks

The Guest Network feature will not work correctly if the Time Capsule is in Bridge Mode, so it might make sense to check that first.
    On your Mac....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click on the Time Capsule
Click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Network tab at the top of the window
Check to make sure that the setting for Router Mode is set to DHCP and NAT
If it is, you can proceed to the next step. If it is not, do NOT proceed any further. Post back with the make and model number of your modem.
Click the Wireless tab next to the Network tab
Enter a check mark in the box next to Enable Guest Network
Type in a name that you want to use for the Guest Network
Security should be WPA2 Or WPA/WPA2 Personal
Type in password that you want to use
    Verify the password
Click Update at the lower right an allow a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart

  • Trying to set up guest network on cisco 1141N

I would like to have a separate SSID on my autonomous aironet 1141 so that guests in my home can connect to my network without me giving out the password.  I am not very experienced with cisco ios so if someone could either point me in the right direction or tell me the commands to run that would be awesome.  I don't care whether or not the guest network is on a separate vlan but I would then have to have the ap act as a dhcp server (which i dont know how to do either).  I have a basic tp-link switch that I would be able to add a trunk to the access points port but thats about it.  My current dhcp server is on windows server 2008 r2.  Any help would be appreciated.
I would also like to add that this is a home network in the middle of nowhere and im not too concerned about unauthorized use.  This will only be active during parties and family events.

It would be best to have multiple vlans to separate the traffic. Here is a doc on creating multiple SSIDs on an autonomous access point.

  • Setting up guest networks for AX

I have the older style AX (round, white one) and I want to be able to set up a guest network for a rental property in my basement. I am using airport utility obviously. But I dont see any way to add networks.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

If you want to create a separate wireless network where guests would have Internet access by not to your wireless network's assets, then replacing your AEBS with a newer dual-band version would be the way to go. Otherwise, it may be possible to create a "guest" network separate of your AEBS, but it will require additional networking equipment to do so ... and if you go that route, you might as well invest in the dual-band model.

  • Trying to set up a wireless guest network using Airport base station.  The first network setup was fine but the second one doesn't work.  Any suggestions?

I purchased the new Airport base station that allows for a wireless setup of a primary network and a guest network.  The primary network installation worked great but I cannot get the guest network to work properly.  Any suggestions on how to make it work?

The AirPort base station is designed to connect to a simple modem......not a modem/router or gateway device that is often furnished to users by Internet Service Providers.
So, the first troubleshooting question would be to find out what the make and model of the device that you call your "modem" might be.....to see if you have the right kind of product that will allow the Guest Network to operate correctly.

  • Can´t enable guest network on Airport Extreme?

    Hi!
I have just bought a Airport Extreme to replace my old D-Link DIR-655 router. The reason was to (a) be able to extend the WLAN using an Airport Express and (b) having the option of using the quest network feature.
The Airport Extreme is a generation 2 802.11n with the latest FW (v.7.6).
I have managed to replace the old router and the network seems to work as intended. However, I do not have the tab called "Guest Network" mentioned in this gudie: http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/create_guest_wifi_network
The Extreme is NOT in bridge mode but in "Share a public IP address".
What could be the problem? Why doesn´t I have the tab letting me anabling this feature?
My own suspicion is that it is because of the generation 2 lacking dual-band support as generation 3-5 (according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirPort_Extreme_802.11n#Comparison_Chart). Is this correct? Would I need to upgrade te hardware to a generation 3,4 or 5?

    Gah!
I was so pleased when I found a used unit for a reasonable price. Time ti start looking again, I suppose.
Thank you for confirming my suspicion.

  • Is it possible to set up a network with airport extreme that is not on the internet

Is it possible to set up a home network using airport extreme that will be a non-internet option?  Not connected to the internet wifi.

Is it possible to set up a home network using airport extreme that will be a non-internet option?
    Yes
Not connected to the internet wifi.
If the AirPort Exteme is not connected to the Internet, then Internet connections will not be available on wireless or wired connections.

  • Guest Network in Airport Utility

I have just been reconfiguring my wireless network. I noticed it's still broadcasting a guest network, yet when I try to configure it in airport utility I can no longer find the guest network settings. I'm sure they used to be in the Wireless section of the Airport Extreme setup. Does anyone know where have they moved to? Thanks.

It really helps us provide a better and more accurate answer for you.....if we know what operating system you are using on your Mac or PC.
We'll take a guess that you are using Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks.
    Open AirPort Utility
    Click on the AirPort Extreme
Click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the window
If you are still using the Leopard, Snow Leopard, or PC version of AirPort Utility.....the Guest Network settings appear as their own tab.

  • How I create guest network in AirPort Extreme )

I found only my primer network
How can I create guess network?

In order to enable the Guest Network feature, you must use a simple modem with the AirPort Extreme.
To verify, post back with the make and model number of what you might call your "modem"

  • Would like to setup guest network apple airport extreme will only allow limited access

imac 10.9.3 connected to internet with airport extreme /xfinity router trying to setup guest network can't connect to internet

The guest network feature of the Apple routers will work correctly when the Apple device connects to a simple modem.......not a modem/router or gateway type of device.
If the guest network feature is important to you, check with your Internet Service Provider to see if they can supply you with a simple modem......which will then allow the guest network feature to work correctly on your network.

  • Setting up "Guest" Network Using LRT214 and LAPN600

Hello, First off I have little experience setting up networks beyond the standard single router/network approach. I would like to be able to setup a non-secured internet access (guest) via our LAPN600 and LRT214 for visitors laptops/phoness.  I see where there can be multiple SSIDs on the WAP and that they would be seperated from seeing other wireless connections; but would they not still have access to any wired devices connected to the LAN? I also see where I could configure a seperate VLAN on the router but am unsure of how to make that play with the WAP to have seperate networks.  Can the VLAN on the router have a separate subnet say 192.168.2.X (vs 192.168.1.X) that the WAP would still have access to?  Or do I have to provide a certain range of IP addresses on the same subnet for each VLAN? Thanks for any help or direction,Mike

This can be done but is kind of tricky. You will probably have to reset the LAPN600 a couple of times due to configuration errors so best to do this with the LAPN600 at your desk. It's been awhile since I've done this so I'm going by memory. You need to enable VLAN support in the LAPN600 and VLAN 1 as it's untagged VLAN:  Then you need to create a VSSID that is tagged on your LRT VLAN for your guests:  In the LRT you need to have a port untagged for VLAN1 and tagged for the LAPN600 Guest VLAN that the LAPN600 is connected to or something to that effect. I will have to do some config testing later to confirm exact settings but this should be you started.

  • HT3477 Why would a Guest network need an Access Control List?

I have an Airport Extreme running software 7.6.4 and I have figured out today, to my dismay, that because I have an Access Control List active on my main network (with MAC addresses of my devices), the Guest Network feature, as implemented, becomes simply useless.
Essentially any friend coming at my place, to whom I want to share my internet connection for a while (say, a couple of hours) with an easy password, either provides me with the MAC address of his device, or has no access at all. And if he has to give me the MAC, then I could just simply add him to the main network in the first place and, BTW, I need to give him also the (complicated) password of my main network.
What is the purpose of a Guest Network then, if it is subject to the same access restrictions of the main one? I need to remove the access list on my main one, to offer quick and easy access to friends and family defeating the purpose of protecting my main network with MAC addresses and a separate guest network?
I don't get it. This is a bug. It has to be. I see no logic in it, in the way it is implemented. Or it should have 2 separate access lists, for flexibility. But a *Guest* network, should be by definition open, or easy access (with password, sure, if necessary) - and in case it should have restricted access, it should be by time maybe, not by MAC address....!

Why would a Guest Network need an Access Control List
The short answer would be that it would not need an Access Control listing......if you used the default settings in Timed Access.
Sorry, but I do not understand how you have constructed your Timed Access control list.
Normally, you would use the default settings and leave the "main" (and "guest") networks set for Unlimited Access.....and then only list the devices that you want to limit separately, establishing "rules" and timeframes for each device that you want to control.
When you do it the default way, a user would be able to connect to the Guest Network at any time, provided that he/she had the password for the guest network. No MAC Address needed at all.
If you wanted to limit the time that the "guest" could connect to the guest network, you would have to set up a "rule" for the guest. I would not normally think of limiting the time that a guest could connect.....(unless the guest were one of the grandkids).
It sounds to me as if you might have set the default network setting to No Access, and you have then set up each device with the times that they would be allowed to connect.
If you did it this way, then the default No Access would also apply to the Guest Network....and any guest would have to then be set up by MAC Address with a rule set for the times that they were allowed to connect.
Personally, I have changed the default rule for the "main" (and guest) networks from Unlimited Access to Everyday between 7:00 AM and 11:30 PM. So no one on either the main or guest network can connect before 7:00 AM or after 11:30 PM.
Then, there are a few rules that I have for devices that connect to the guest network to further limit them to certain times each day. You could do this as well for devices that you want to control on the "main" network.

  • The end of guest networks in Germany using Telkom speedport W921?

Just a note worth thinking about.
I am amazed at how little attention is given to above subject and the lack of clear answers in this forum and elsewhere. It seems the new generation of VDSL speedports no longer support Time Capsule/airport to implement guest networks, if the user is not ready to give up on IP based telephony or land line telephony for that matter. The current system of anlalog and isdn telephony will be phased out by Telekom in the mid term, which means that no telephony with current land line numbers will be possible, if the speedport is relegated to a pure modem, which for now worked fine, when configuring the TC as the router with guest net work capability. Using the proposed fast internet via the speedport W 921v only alows the TC to be used in bridge mode, which excludes the implementation of an isolated guest network.
Flatly put you can either use the high speed internet with all features except guest network by airport and TC, or you have to abstain from land line telephony using your know telekom numbers. This hypothesis is for German users only.
Any workable solutions to this problem would be higly appreciated. And maybe Apple should address this problem in the architecture of airports and TC's as well.

Any workable solutions to this problem would be higly appreciated. And maybe Apple should address this problem in the architecture of airports and TC's as well.
    The restriction is purely Apple..
I have an Asus RT-AC66U and it has no problem creating up to 6 different networks apart from the main network. It makes no difference of what mode it is running. Each of those networks can have their own individual settings including isolation or not. This is using almost the same hardware as the latest AC version Airport. So the answer is obvious.. relegate your apple router to its best function.. an AP.. and buy a router.. a real one.
