Need direction on creating color selection in b&w image

This is so common and I'm sure there are more than a few ways to do this, but I don't know any of them.
I'm looking to take a photo, make it B&W and then select something like a bouquet of roses and allow them to show thru as color.
Can someone direct me to a tutorial or video that shows this technique in Photoshop or LightRoom?

In Need of Help Creating an Action

Hello,
I need to create several thousand QR codes and I am trying to work out how to automate it so that I don't have to make them one at a time.
My idea was to download the EVEnX QR Code plugin for Photoshop and then make an action, or series of actions, to make the codes en mass. The information I need in each QR Code is a URL, with each code having a unique one that links to the products serial number.
So, I created a file roughly the size of the QR codes I needed and used vairables to insert the URL on text layer. I was hoping to be able to create an action that would copy that text, open the plugin (which works like a filter), paste the text, create the code and save/close the image.
However, I can't seem to get it to work. I don't know how to make an action to have it highlight the text layer or an action to paste it into the plugin.
Also, the plugin allows you to make a variable of certain information it pulls from the file but the closest I can get to what I need is file name, however I can't make the files named for the URL because of the slashes. They allows you to use file name, file path and the information like size and date.
Sorry for the long post but I HAVE to get this figured out as this project is for work and I am on a time limit. I don't have to use an action, any other way would be fine! I don't have much experience with scripts but if you can walk me through one that would work then I would be happy to try! PLEASE HELP!!!

Color selection tool has stopped working [was: need help with indesign cs6]

I am working in InDesign cs6 and my color selection tool stopped working.

Do I reply here? I have been creating a newspaper in InDesign cs6 and the color selection box won't work any longer. It used to work just fine, but now it won't let me access it.
Someone in tech support last night before they went away, was directing me to: Go to Folder from my desktop, and then to Preferences, then to ~/Library/, then to InDesign version 8.0 and en US. Then we lost contact and I didn't know what to do next, so I still have the problem.

How to create a selection or mask from a Selective Color layer

Hi. I was wondering if it is possible to get a selection/mask out of a Selective Color Layer.
For instance lets say I have a complicated photo and I put a Selective Color layer on. I then pick Red and start adjusting. I can see the effect and how it changes the red and how it falls off in the photo. Is it at all possible to create a selection or a mask based off of that effect?

You can try this. Once you get your selective color adjustment layer the way you like it, change it's blending mode to difference. Add a B&W adjustment layer above that then a curves or levels adjustment layer above that. Use the curves or levels adjustment layer to give the image more contrast by adjusting the top white values. This will produce an image that you can then make a selection from from the channel pallet.

However I still do not understand the reason for this.

Hi, Nori,
If you have the red and blue rectangle selected and the Fill square selected in the tool panel, as at bottom left, then hold the shift key down and click with the eyedropper on the green stroke in the upper rectangle, then the red fill will turn green but the stroke stays blue. If you select Stroke, as at bottom right, then shift-click with the eyedropper on the green stroke, the blue stroke will turn green but the fill stays red. With Fill selected and shift-click on the yellow fill, the red fill turns yellow; with Stroke selected the blue stroke turns yellow. If you do not depress the shift key, the red and blue rectangle will become yellow and green.
It's complicated to explain, but I think that if you try it step by step it will make sense to you.

Hi, In need of help creating a simple effect to image.

Attached is an image which shows more or less the effect I am needing to achieve.

I created the image above by desaturating the colour image of the man and then adding a new purple layer and selecting 'vivid light' from the layer palette drop down box. In doing this the man became purple but the white area surrounding him stayed white...I then adjusted the layers on the first layer so that the white part became purple - the final result is what you see in the attached image.
The problem is this - I need to create this effect for 15 or so images all with a specific purple pantone colour, I need to create these for print ready artwork. All the pictures (ie the man) I will be using, need to look the same kind of shade. The way I was creating these before was to adjust the bottom layer so its grey rather than white so that the white area becomes purple.
Confusing huh, If you dont understand my question (and I dont blame you!) then all I need is to create a set of 15 images that look like the attached image (using a specific pantone) but I have no idea how the best way to do it is.
How would you guys achieve that? Any help greatly appreciated.

So its gonna be a two-color-job?
Because with the extreme depths adding Black at least might be beneficial.
You could make a Selection of a black&white-version-of-the-photographs luminance, inverse it and, in the Channels-Panels PopUp-menu, choose Add New Spot Channel for the Foreground color and select the Pantone color.
Then Add New Spot Channel for the background-color and fill that solid black and hide the layers that contain the composite of the photograph.
This should leave You with blank composite channels and the two Spot Channels visible.
Indesign can handle either psd- or DCS2-files containing Spot Channels.
The problem I perceive here is that depending on the print-process and the background color selected it might proof necessary to knock out the foreground elements if the company is very strict on their CI colors. Unfortunately simply inversing the foreground selection would probably not work as this might leave the mixed-color-areas greyish.
Are the prints gonna be offset or silkscreen?

In need of help creating a photo to look like...

I'm trying to basically to make an image very similar to this one, only with different people and a different color. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to create this effect. If anyone could help me, I would be SO appreciative!

I didn't have any young people to use in an example, so I give you some of 'The Convention Committee'
The pictures will have started off as individual portraits, so find and select them all in Bridge, and go Tools > Photoshop > Load into Photoshop layers.
You then need to select each person and remove the background. There's a group of tutorials on how to do that here under 'Selecting parts of an image'. Learn Photoshop CC | Adobe TV
After making each selection, copy to a new layer so the background has gone.
Then enlarge the Canvas width so you have room to spread the layers out.
Select the move tool, make sure Auto Select is off, and set to Layers (as opposed to Group). Hold down the Ctrl key, and drag each layer into position. (You will probably have to adjust the layer order so that they overlap in the right order)
Now select the uppermost layer, and make a copy merged layer. (Shift Alt Ctrl e)
add a B&W adjustment layer.
I actually used Topaz Adjust > Portrait smooth to smooth away some detail, but if you have CC, you can do the same thing with the camera RAW filter using negative Clarity.
add a Curves layer and give it a pronounce S shape to increase contrast.
add a Hue/Saturation layer. Check Colorize, and adjust to suite. I gave mine a bit more saturation than in your example.

Bug: 9780 blue color selection cursor missing

I am having the blue color selection cursor missing when I do the following:
At home screen, click blackberry button to open tray, but blue color cursor not shown and I cannot select application. I need to close tray and try few times.
At home screen, scroll to the top to open network panel for changing 2G or 3G. But the blue cursor not shown and I need to close it and reopen few times.

Have you tried to repair permissions, and check/repair disk? Looks like some Finder plist file getting corrupted after a little use of your computer. Also, you could try and create a new user account, and log in onto this new account, to check if your problems exist on this new account too. If not, then something is going awry on your own (admin?) account; if not, well, then your issue is system-wide.

Applications cannot be installed in TS unless option ' Access directly from DP" is selected

I am trying to install applications that were deployed using software distribution to many users via RAP and mandatory. Normally the applications then are added in TS to get a WIM image and subsequently added to a deployment TS. The image created is on a
VM machine which is then cloned on ESX to push to new machines. I get error when i try to install the applications via TS if the option ' Download contents when required'. I created a separate TS in which these four applications get installed if option 'Access
directly from DP' is selected. However if i put ''Access directly from DP" in the main TS that creates the WIM file, i am not able to proceed in the WIn PE section. So i have to download the contents in full before running the TS. Would this cause the
WIM file to increase in size ?

Yes, most likely. New iMacs use Intel CPU's & require a different version of the OS software, even when the version number (e.g., 10.4.2) is the same. If the "someone" was truthful about wanting to use 10.3, he or she probably has discovered that is impossible with a newer iMac, & will need these disks.
In any event, the software is bundled with the iMac as part of the license & cannot not legally be sold apart from it. (Words to this effect should appear on the DVD label.)
Return the disks & get your money back.

Selective color, selective colour

Hi all,
I have had a root around and can find nothing on Selective Colouring in Final Cut Pro X. Partly because it's hard to isolate search terms in order not to get advice on FCP Studio. Is there somewhere someone can direct me to, to get selecting? i.e isolating a red coat as in schindler's list. Here's the relevant info from the manual on chroma keying (which is what you want to do):

However, you might end up needing to do the keying in Motion, depending on how complex the color selection becomes. The tools in FCP X are geared more to green-screens.

Need help in Creating a sequence

Hi,
I need to create a sequence which starts with the value one more than max value of one of the columns in a table. Can anyone help me in this regard?
Eg: I have a table 'User_Details' with one of the columns as 'ID', I need to create a sequence for this table which starts with one more the 'max(ID)' if there are any records already existing.

Assuming that you have some way to identify which columns of which tables will be populated by sequences in the new release, the you could write PL/SQL code to automatically generate this. In this example I have assumed that you need a sequence created forthe (single) numeric PK column of each table in a particular schema, and that the sequence name will always be table_pk_seq.
