Need DVD to play on windows media player also?

I made a dvd of some footage and output as a quicktime movie. I then used the best DVD setting in compressor. Lastly I used toast to burn the dvd. The dvd will play on everything except the windows media player. How can I get the dvd to play in the windows media player also. I looked at the flipformac site and was wondering if that program will do it. What are you guys using?
Thanks

Hi David
My statement 'Windows Media Player is not a DVD video player' is not mine, it is a Microsoft definition. Windows Media Player is specifically for playing Windows Media Video files - WMV. It can also play mpeg(1) AVI and other sound files like CD audio.
For some kind of licencing/payments thing, WMP is not packaged with an mpeg2 codec and some other bits that make the DVD interactive. Microsft's advice is to use the software player that is packaged with the DVD drive.
What can be tried is the Microsoft utility which might let the video play but might not navigate correctly. Not all codecs are compatable with WMP.
My own suggestion for reliability is, to playback DVD Video always use the installed dedicated DVD player and never WMP.
What can be a problem is that the user has not installed the DVD software player which is often on a separate resources disc.

  • Why does my Encore DVD not play in Windows Media Player v.11

My DVD's play properly in players and from various other DVD Software but not Windows Media Player v.11.  Most people I give my DVD's to view them on business computers, that only have WMP on them.  Is there a way to build an Encore DVD that will allow them to play in WMP?

You can always build a Flash "DVD". Other than that you may be looking in the wrong place. Microsoft has neatly avoided any MPEG-2/DVD licensing and merely uses the respective libraries of otehr DVD software on your system, so when no such thing is installed, it never works.

  • Exported media cannot be played by Windows  MEdia Player

    Hi,
I have loaded in a CS3 project into Adobe MEdia Encoder (I would have eimported it into Adobe CS4 first but it doesn't work- it just loads the project and when it's done, nothing appears). I selected the "Sequence 1" of the project and started the Queue. When it was done, the resulting file does not play on Windows Media Player. I tried loading it into VLC but I get an error about missing a decoder "v210".
I'd appreciate any help with this.
    Thanks!

    hi derek,
In CS3, you can find this option by clicking "File>Export>Adobe Media Encoder". In the AME UI that comes up, you need to click on format drop down for the MPEG2DVD format. There, you can use the preset named "NTSC High Quality". since your footage is only 24 minutes long, you can increase the "bitrate" under "video" pane. Make sure that the output size does not exceed the DVD limit.
To burn it on DVD, you can use Encore. Import the just exported file into Encore DVD project and burn it to a DVD.
If you face any problem, Do get back to this thread.

  • How to get quicktime files to play in Windows Media Player...

Hello. I've got a Mac and use iMovie to create vid's. I need them to export in a format that can be played in Windows Media Player on a PC. I've installed WMV (even bought the Studio version) and they were converted to mp4 files. They play great on the PC using Quicktime in the mp4 format, but when opening them into windows media player I keep getting a codec error. Is there anyway to get around this? Unfortunately, they have to be played on a PC in media player to be presented. Thanks for your time once again!

Your bought WMV? Do you mean Flip4mac? If you just mean the ancient Windows Media Player for Mac, it won't work.
Reading this set of directions you export to WMV and name the file with a WMV extension:
    http://www.flip4mac.com/pdfs/Flip4MacWMVQuickStart.pdf
If you don't have Flip4mac, that is, the $50 version, not the $29 version, you can't export, just import.

  • I just purchased Premiere 13 and the video files won't play in Windows Media Player. I have audio but no video. What can I do? I have Premiere 12 and everything works fine with it.

    What can I do?

    Bonan
Premiere Elements 13 on Windows 8.1 64 bit
What are your export settings for this finished video from Premiere Elements 13?
For example - are you using
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVChD
    with Presets = MP4 H.264 1920 x 1080p30
    or something different like
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    MPEG
    with Presets = MPEG2 1920 x 1080i30
    or something different ....
We are going to have to get at your export settings which gets us to the properties of the finished video that you are trying to play in Windows Media Player.
If you take your finished video from Premiere Elements 13 and import that into a new Premiere Elements 13 project with Add Media/Files and Folders,
does it import into the new project. And, when the video is in the new project, does it display video and have audio in the Edit area monitor?
We need more details of the properties of the finished video. Knowing that you have no problems with this matter in Premiere Elements 12 and that
the finished video plays in CyberLink are important, but they do not help to figure out what is happening in 13 so that it does not happen again.

  • H.264 not playing in Windows Media Player

OK, so I've exported a 720p video to H.264 format. The resultant .mp4 plays just fine on my Mac where it was created, in both QuickTime and the VLC Player. It also plays on another person's Mac (I'm assuming QuickTime) just fine.
But two people who have Windows machines cannot get the file to play in Windows Media Player. I don't think they've tried another player, but that's irrelevant because I need my output video to be able to play in WMP.
Is H.264 a poor choice in this case? That's always been my go-to format. I thought .mp4 was a universally playable format.
    Thank you.

It depends on which version of Windows Media Player they're using. If they're still on XP, it's very possible it won't work.  Anyone using Windows 7 or 8 should have no problem.  (And perhaps it does need to be said, but everyone should be using either 7 or 8 by now.)
At least one of them was on Windows 7.
Is there a better format I should be using for PP export other than H.264?

  • Can songs play in windows media player?

Hey I just downloaded some music in itunes and i have a question is it possible for my music to play in windows media player? if so what do i have to do to get it to play?

Do you mean you purchased songs in the iTunes Music Store? If so, unless it is one of the iTunes Plus songs, then it has Apple-proprietary DRM protection, and your answer is no.
If you plan to use your music in both Apple and non-Apple players, avoid the iTunes Music Store. Preferably, make your purchases at stores that sell only unprotected files, such as amazon.com.

  • .MOV exported to .AVI with QTpro fails to play in Windows Media Player

I have a .MOV file that I converted with 7.1.6 of QTpro to a .AVI ( DV/DVCPRO - NTSC / Best / 4:3 ) ( uncompressed 48kHz / 16bit / 2 channel ). The converted .AVI file will not play in Windows Media Player or load in Premiere. The converted .AVI will play in QT. I have previously converted .DV files to .AVI without any problems. If I load the converted .AVI with VirtualDub it says there is a missing "index" and precedes to read the entire .AVI file to "re-create" the "index".
Can anybody offer any clues as to what is going wrong?

Are you referring to a Lynda.com Compressor tutorial or one of their many PPT tutorials.
I agree that 10 Mbs is a nice general quality level – depending on your footage, of course – the content, the lighting, etc. WMV is probably the safest – although MP4 should be good as well,
Hard to be more specific except to say, Test. A preset that works well for one movie may look not-so-great applied to another.
Take a short, representative section and encode. Project the output file and see what you think.
    Good luck.

  • How do I make iMovie projects play in Windows Media Player?

How do I make movies that I have created in iMovie play in Windows Media PLayer having been transferred by memory stick or email? This would be ideal to know because my school's computers are PCs and our main computer is an iMac.

By far the easiest way is to have the school install the free QuickTime Player (Windows Version) from Apple.
Otherwise, you can buy a version of Flip4Mac that will enable you to do the conversion using QuickTime Pro or MPEG Streamclip.

  • Recording audio in Adobe Audition from a DVD played on Windows Media Player

I use Adobe Audition for audio production. I should be able to play a DVD via Windows Media Player and record the audio from it using Adobe Audition.
    It isn't working.
I get a pop-up message indicating: INVALID ASIO INPUT (it continues to read) ! The selected input port or ASIO driver is invalid. Please change your settings in the audio hardware setup dialogue.
I tried that approach, and was not offered the ability to make that change.
Anyone have any ideas? My much older VAIO Sony computer handled this perfectly.
    Thanks!

    Hey Terry
in the corporate world wee have to contend with clients who are all windows based and prevented from installing anything on their systems.
    I use Flip4Mac, Studio Pro HD, with the following mix of settings;
Open clip in QT, I do also use compressor but for some reason I like using QT for exporting to WMV.
    File/Export
    Export:movie to windows media
Use: One pass VBR, Presentation (high), 16:9
    Options>
Advanced... input type: interlace Lower field first(DV), output type: progressive
    Coding method: Two pass VBR
Give this a shot and then tweak to suit your needs, oh and you can save your settings as a preset for QuickTime.
Within Compressor there is no export to WMV, so you have to start with another setting and create your own saving it for future use.

  • Dvd won't play on Windows media player

I have used idvd 6 to burn a final cut express movie onto a dvd. However, when I try to play it on my pc, it will not work. It works on a dvd player, but not Windows media player. Is there any way to make this work?
    Thanks!

HI there, I am too having this issue, I have never had this problem before. I always test the dvd in my windows p.c. to make sure it is viewable. I forgot to do it this time, and low and behold when I gave it to a few people, they were also not able to view it. 2 pc's in my office keep saying that it is missing an mpg2 plugin so can not play. The other pc, it just keeps playing the main menu, there is nothing for them to click to view it. Now mine at home will not play either, it has no menus on the screen, but it plays the menu music. Now my p.c. is up to date so there should not be any reason it will not play. I have burned at 1x, verbatim disc's etc.. It plays fine on my Mac, but even there I have just noticed that I used to be able to click with the mouse on each title to play. Now I have to scroll on the menu, then play from the dvd player control. Any help would be appreciated. They have been playing on a TV with the player though, thanks as always, Ileen

  • DVD playback issue with Windows Media Player

    Hi,
This isn't an Encore specific question, rather, a DVD playback one. Has anyone had issue playing their replicated DVDs in Windows Media Player? I truly believe it's the media player, not the DVD.  When we put a DVD in the drive and try to open it in WMP, it jumps right to a video, or jumps directly to the last place we were in a video.... it's not defaulting to the main menu.
Has anyone experienced this? Is it a programming glitch on my DVD? I feel like it's a WMP issue, as it's only happening on certain computers.
    thanks.

WMP has never been a good player for DVD's. At some point in the past, much of that functionality was disabled my MS, in hopes to reduce piracy. For some versions, no burned DVD would even play, though replicated/pressed DVD's were supposed to play fine.
I use CyberLink's PowerDVD and it is fine, even with my burned DVD's. The free MediaPlayer Classic HC plays my discs well too, with full menuing.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • ITunes+ Songs not playing in Windows Media Player 11

So I got a new PC. On the previous PC i had been using windows Media player and playing songs purchased in iTunes+ in WMP.
So I transferred all my songs to an external HD. Then on my new PC I pointed the folder in WMP to the external HD and it imported all my music, except for my iTunes+ songs.
I have also purchased 2 new iTunes+ songs and they will not import into WMP or play in WMP.
What do I need to do?

Is it possible the problem is that on the previous pc I was running Windows 7 and on the new PC I'm running Vista Premium?
