Need feedback regarding the recovery discs

Hi,
I have recently acquired a T61 with Vista Business. It did not come with pressed rescue CDs, therefore I immediately generated the set of 10 recovery CDs using the Lenovo software.
I will have to move some partitions soon (to install BSD and other experimentations). The computer came with 2 partitions, the first one being a 6GB containing the recovery part and the second one being the installed system. If I remove them (or move them), will the recovery CDs recreate these partitions, reformat and reinstall them as initially? Even if I completely wipe the drive and remove all partitions? Or are there differences (do I need to redo the initial partitioning again) ?
Thanks in advance.

The recovery media  should return the machine to the same state you received it in.  My TP has shipped and the first thing I plan to do is to create the recovery CD/DVDs AND make sure they work before experimenting.
..."I immediately the set of 10 recovery CDs"...I assume you meant that you made the set yourself, right?
There are some reports of people who ordered VistaBus also receiving XP downgrade recovery discs, but they didn't realize that and neglected to make their Vista recovery discs from the HD before messing with the partitions.

  • Help Needed! Getting the files off the recovery disc and onto the computer. How?!?

Okay, I shut down my computer a few hours ago like normal and I restarted it again when I wanted to go on it which was later this evening. A screen popped up that said press enter to continue and a bunch of code, so I did just pressed 'Enter' like it asked. Then another screen came up that said,  "Your computer could not start up, we are finding and fixing the problems, ect ect." And then there was a percentage at the bottom of how much was completed.
So after it was finished, my computer started to totally restart, like I just bought the computer. It had me remake everything. And when it was all done EVERYTHING except for the programs that came with the computer where gone. I noticed a recovery disc and how it was almost full, and it said it has all my programs on it and to not delete it. Well okay if it has all my programs....
How in the world do I get everything from the recovery disc back onto my computer?
Please comment on any information that can help!

The recovery partition on the hard drive does not have your programs/files. It holds the files to reinstall Windows and all original software/drivers that came on the laptop. In other words, it does exactly what just occurred.

  • Hi , I own a hp pavilion dv6 6050se laptop bought in UAE during 2011, I have lost the recovery discs

Hi , I own a hp pavilion dv6 6050se laptop bought in UAE during 2011, I have lost the recovery discs.
How do i get a copy of recovery discs??

    Hi,
I don't see any link on your Product Page to order a replacement set of Recovery Discs, but it's always worth calling HP directly and see if you can order them this way.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
If you are unable to order these discs from HP, here's an alternative option you could try.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create an installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your notebook ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  These Images are clean and from a well-respected source, however there are only limited versions available.
    Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

Any additional drivers and software you may need can be found Here.

  • Do the recovery discs come with an operating system?

I was given a Toshiba satellite A215-S4747 a year ago. I don't have a recovery disc and can't do a restore from the hard disc. After putting windows 7 on it, it has been nothing but problems with the drivers and such. At this point I just want it at factory default again. Since my I never had the recovery disc in the first place, I don't mind paying for one, but I need to know if I will have to purchase a Vista OS disc as well or if it will come with the requested recovery disc for my laptop. Thanks in Advance!

    Howdy!
Not sure why you are having issues with the drivers, but if you go to the following link, it lists all the drives which you can sort via which version of Windows 7 (32 bit or 64 bit) you are running.
    Satellite A215-S4747
Another option to keep in mind is, depending on how you installed Windows 7, you may still have the recovery partition that discs would have been made from.  If so, your manual, which can be downloaded at the link I provided above, may tell you which keys to press during the boot process to access and run it.
Worse case scenario where you just buy the OEM recovery discs from Toshiba, they will include everything you need from the Windows OS, to the correct drivers, to the Toshiba extra support software.  It will literally load to the state it was right out of the box.  As such, no, you will not need to purchase a retail copy of Windows Vista off the shelf.  The only kicker to that would be if Vista was not the originally installed OS.  Easiest way to check this is to look on the bottom of the laptop where the OS sticker is with your particular serial key.  Whatever it says there will be what is on the recovery disc when you receive it.
If you have any other questions or need further assist, please feel free to post here.  Best of luck.

  • Satellite Pro L20 - Is MS Office is on the recovery disc

    Hi,
This is my first time on this forum and I have limited technical knowledge - please be gentle!!
I have a Satellite Pro L20 laptop which is now 4 years old (I got it in Nov 2005).
It has been running extremely slowly over the past year so I removed any software that I no longer use, have backed up any files that I needed to keep and defragmented the hard drive.
I haven't really noticed any difference in the speed, I understand that I can now try to format the hard drive and reinstall windows using the Product Recovery disc.
When I first had the laptop, all I needed to do was press the power button, enter in a couple of passwords and a computer name and it all very nicely loaded with Office 2003 waiting there for me to use!
Could anyone tell me if Office is on the recovery disc?
It says that One Note 2003 is there and I have a code for that, but doesn't mention Word, Excel, Publisher or PowerPoint - these I use daily.
I've looked on the Additional Software disc that also came with the laptop and it doesn't seem to be on there.
Your help will be very much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hello
As Jimi said Microsoft Office is not preinstalled on Toshiba notebooks. Maybe its a trial version but not the full version and One Note 2003 is not the same as Office 2003.
Dont forget that the product key on the bottom side of the notebook belongs to the Windows version and its not for Office because sometimes I can read here that people try to use this key with Office. ;)

  • HP S3120N. I replaced the motherboard, and the power supply, now the recovery discs wont work.

I am a not so proud owner of a HP Pavillion S3120N. I am running windows vista home edition. The motherboard went out, so I replaced it with a Zotac GeForce 8200-ITX Wifi Series. Now the computer says it is noa a valid hp solution, and the recovery discs do not work. is there a way to fix this problem without buying a new operating system?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Yes, return the Zotac motherboard and get a HP/Compaq OEM M2NC51-AR / HematiteXL-GL8E motherboard. I know that isn't the answer you want to hear but the recovery discs are locked to a specific set of HP/Compaq machines with specific HP OEM motherboards. Outside of that, you will need to purchase a new OS.

  • Need inputs regarding the dvd drive on primary ide channel.

    Specs:
    Motherboard: MSI P35 Neo3 (MS-7935 1.0)
    CPU: Intel Core2 Duo E6550
Memory: Team Elite DDR2800 (2x1GB Dual Channel)
Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB 32MB Cache (SATA)
Optical drive: LG GSA-H55L (IDE only) Firmware version 1.02
    Graphics card: Gecube HD3870
    Chipset: Intel P35/G33/G31 (Rev. A2)
    Southbridge: Intel 82801IB (ICH9)
    LPCIO: Fintek F71882F
    BIOS: AMI V1.1 (11/07/2007)
    Hello,
Almost all new motherboards today only have a primary ide channel and the rest are SATA.
I need inputs regarding the dvd drive which is shown in device manager as located on the primary ide channel while the hard drive is located on the secondary channel. Because I would like to update the dvd drive to the latest firmware (version 1.06; to be able to recognize more blank media) but the LG site recommends that the drive (dvd) be located on the secondary ide channel.
I already tried to uninstall every channel from the device manager but all would still be the same after reboot, dvd drive on primary, hard drive on secondary.
Current ide mode in BIOS is set to AHCI+IDE mode, DMA modes are fine (UDMA4 for dvd, UDMA5 for hard drive), boot sequence (1st=HD, 2nd=DVD, 3rd=Floppy drive)
Tried switching to IDE mode only in BIOS but would not detect the optical drive. Never tried RAID+IDE mode since I only have a single hard drive.
I'm not sure but if I try to update the firmware, it might instead try to update the hard drive's firmware instead of the optical drive and make the hard drive unusable.
I would like to know if anybody with this same situation was able to successfully update the optical drive's firmware or is there some way to place the optical drive on the secondary ide channel and the hard drive on primary for me to follow and replicate the process.
    Thank you for any replies.

Thanks sir NovJoe for the reply.
Just received the solution from another forum where I posted the same problem.
They said that the flash program for the firmware will detect the drive on its own and would not flash other devices except the optical drive itself. So its pretty safe, and I can confirm this since I just flashed my ODD a little over a while ago and everything went fine. No errors.
Though I'm speaking for the brand of ODD I own and may be different for other brands so take precautions as well. It may be different for the others.

    Hi
What kind of DVDs you are using for creating a Toshiba recovery disc? As yet I have tried Verbatim DVD-R and TDK DVD-R and never had a problem with these discs. Friend of tried DVD+R and he couldnt create a recovery disc. After that he tried DVD-R and all was fine but I dont know why this happened.
    So please try other discs.
Furthermore check the Toshiba page for a firmware update of CD/DVD drive. Maybe it will help you.

  • Cannot use the recovery disc with my Satellite A100

I have Satellite Pro A100 Series, when I boot it up it tells me "Windows could not starte because the following file is missing or corrupt" \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
I have tried to reboot with the recovery disc in and pressed F12 for the boot menu, selected CD/DVD and nothing happens.
Any help or ideas would be great,.

    Hi!
This is strange but if you have tested different disks on your notebook it seems that your CD/DVD drive is faulty and must be replaced.
How do you think about this?
If you have Windows Vista on your notebook you can use the HDD recovery function. Go in the advanced boot menu, select repair my computer and follow the screen instructions.
Anyway, I think you must replace the CD/DVD drive to solve the issue.
    Bye

  • I can't finde the recovery disc from my Satellite A100-163

My A100 will not load - can't find the recovery disc. Can I use my A60 recovery disc on my A100 - 163 laptop?

Sorry, but you cant use the recovery disk from the A60. It will not work.
You can order a new recovery disk from Toshiba:
    https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/
Or you go to an ASP (authorized service provider) to get a new one:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Find an ASP
You can also use an original Microsoft disk, but there you must install all drivers manual and this takes a lot of time.

I am having trouble playing QT movies since I installed QT 7 Pro. I wanted to see if I could reinstall 10.8 from the recovery disc to gain back any missing codecs> I don't see any ionformation on downloading QT codecs for QT Pro 7. Any help?

    Replying to your post title
When you restart into the Recovery HD and choose to Reinstall OS X, you're ONLY installing OS X on top of itself and NOT touching any 3rd party apps or data files. Of course, always do a back up prior to a reinstall for safety sake.

    Hi
    Check this link:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_gaspLocator.jsp?pf=true
There you will find information about the Toshiba service partner in your country.
You can also try to install the OS from the original Microsoft CD. After the OS installation you should visit the Toshiba driver website to download and install the necessary drivers.
