Need Folder/Subfolder Listing

Hello
I have a hierarchy of a few dozen folders/subfolders, containing a total of a few hundred word processing documents, on an eMac OS 9.2. I need to generate a text file with each line representing the full path to each document. The equivalent PC command is:
dir /b /s > dir.txt
How can I best accomplish this task?
Thank you,
Jeff Bowman

That worked perfectly, thank you.
Also, I'd like to comment on the nature of your helpful and neighborly reply. I'm new to Mac, and if this is my first impression of the folks over here, I'm impressed.
I'm imagining something akin to the small and tight-knit Microsoft Visual FoxPro programming community, of which I used to be a part. Fiercely zealous and uncommonly kind to one another, they're something to behold.
Alas, however, when I switched to .NET programming my old friends wouldn't talk to me anymore.
But that's not my point. My point is that I think I can enjoy working with this Macintosh platform and its people, if I'm correct in my suspicions. I don't think I could deliver myself to the advocacy altar one way or the other, but I do appreciate learning new ways to accomplish tasks at hand.
So thanks again, and see you down the trail!
p.s. Upon further investigation I find that I do indeed have OS X installed.

  • Folder, Subfolder List

I have looked everywhere, but can't find exactly what I'm looking for. I need a script that will scan and make a list of all subfolders within a folder. I don't need the path or anything like that. Just the names of the subfolders, and the subfolders in the subfolders. Is this doable? I would like the list to be created in iA Writer, TextEdit, or Word. Thanks for any help.

    you want something like this:
    tell application "Finder"
set folderNames to name of every folder of entire contents of folder "HD:path:to:folder"
    end tell
where HD is the name of the external drive as it shows up on the desktop.  If there are a lot of items in the folder, you may need to use a 'with timeout' block to keep the script from timing out on you.

  • When expanding folder in list view, finder always go to top. How to stop it?

How to make finder not going to top back again whenever expanding a folder in list view? It just like clicking go to top on a website. i have a lot of subfolder, but when i expand it, finder show back the top list folder(zuupp to the top, grrr!!!), it so annoying to scroll back down just to get back where the last folder expand.

18 months later someone finally responds to you.  I dislike this behavior very much and cannot find a workaround.  The current push by Aple is to make the smaller devices more accessible which is radcially compromising the desktop experience.  I asume you have updated to Mavericks by now.  The auto-sizing columns remains an issue as well.  If this is driving you bonkers too.  Use TAG View and the auto resize to file name length returns.

how do i choose a photos folder for my screen saver.  iPhoto used to be listed as a dropdown choice.  now only folder is listed.

You cannot take a folder out of the Trash to your Desktop without erasing the one on the Desktop. You need to first change the name of the folder on the Desktop. Or you can open the folder that's in the Trash and drag the files onto the Desktop assuming there aren't too many of them.
But if you have a duplicate on the Desktop why do you need to remove the one that's in the Trash?
If you feel you must take the folder out of the Trash, then you need to rename the duplicate that's on your Desktop.
If you wish to put the folder back where it was when you deleted it, then open the Trash window, select the folder, then CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select "Put Back" from the context menu.

  • How do I manage photos using a folder - subfolder type structure?

How do I manage photos using a folder - subfolder type structure as I have done previously within Windows? For example, my photos were stored with a folder for each year and sub-folders for each month whicheach  held the photos. Can I do this in iPhoto?

For example, my photos were stored with a folder for each year and sub-folders for each month whicheach  held the photos
    Why bother?
Check out the search box at the bottom of the Window. (Click on the Magnifying glass, it opens it) Now click on the mgnifying glass in the search box) and select 'Date'. Now you can find all the photos from any day, month or year. If you want to find the photos from a range - say a paticular week - then you can do that with a Smart Album.
Organising photos by date means you have to remember the date the shot was taken, and after a while, and after a few thousand shots, this gets harder and harder to do, so you spend more and more time rooting through folders.
iPhoto offers a range of organising tools and each offers more possibilites to quickly find the shot you're looking for. For instance:
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 45k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a  typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John  to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

Do not need to invalidateDisplay list when setting either the horizontalScrollPosition or verticalScrollPostion since the
ContainerController's setters call updateForScroll(), if scrolling needs to happen, which updates the container.
Also do not need to invalidate the display list when the scroller calls clipAndEnableScrolling install or uninstall the RET as a viewport.  The scroller should do it if necessary.

  • I need the check list for SOLMAN implementation

    Hi gurus ,
i need the check  list for solution manager implementation and what are the things to be discuss with the client , i am new to SOLMAN, i have to do this by the evening , any one can help me out
    Cheers
    Gopal.rao

    Hi Gopal,
I am not sure if this thread of yours is in continuation of the other thread you have started which has been replied by two other Forum members.
The checklist depends upon which Scenario(s) of SolMan you are trying to implement.
    - Implementation/ Upgrade of ERP systems
    - Service Desk
    - Change Request Monitoring
    - Diagnostics
    - Solution Monitoring (includes BPM/ Interface monitoring)
    - Delivery of SAP Services (EWA, .....)
Unless you specify the scenario you are seeking information on, it is difficult for anyone to pose a satisfactory reply.

  • Need to get list of all portlet instances in system

    Hi guys
Probably such question already was here, but I cant find any solution.
I need to get list of instance labels of all portlets used on all desktops in current domain.
    Thanks for help.
Edited by AndreW at 04/08/2008 8:23 AM

    Hi
you havent told me the version you are using.
For 8.1 (and i suppose you should have similar classes in 10)
get a IDesktopDefinitionManager from the DesktopDefinitionManagerHome
IDesktopDefinitionManager.getDesktopDefinitions --> gets all the definition
    for each definition IDesktopDefinitionManager.getDesktopView
from the desktopView get the Primary BookView.
recursively go through the book view to get      getNavigableView . if the navigable is itself a BookView , recurse. if it is a pageView then get the PlaceableView. If the placeable view is of type BookView then do the recursive stuff, else if it is a PortletView you have what you want.

  • I Need a wish list for an "HD recording studio"

I was hoping someone could help me with a list of, what I would need to have a High end HD recording studio.
I already have a Yamaha DM 2000 mixing board.

I don't know if  this would work remotely, but for local apps that are indexed by Spotlight you can use a command like
mdls -name kMDItemVersion <path to file>
So for iPhoto.app in my /Applications folder, I get:
    $ mdls -name kMDItemVersion /Applications/iPhoto.app
    kMDItemVersion = "8.1.2"

  • PDA Folder Directory Listing

    Hello List,
In an attempt to minimize typing for the PDA User, I would like to show a list of files located in a particular folder or let them select a file name while browsing.
I know how to accomplish this using LabVIEW; however, the PDA Module does not seem to support List.VI and some of the other "browsing" tools. In fact, I would be able to capature the file name if I could force some type of a browse event similar to what occurs using the simple "File Dialog" in LabVIEW.
My objective is to let them select files (about 15 characters in length) without having to manually enter them with stylus, which can be time consuming.

It can be done through API calls, however, I tried several times to build a DLL out of it for PDA but couldn't get it to work (compile). NI really need to simplify the process to call native API functions.

  • Need key commands list - complete

can someone do me a favor and email me the clipboard output of the comprehensive key command list? i'm not in a position to do this myself right at the moment. if someone chimes up, i'll reply with the email address to send it to. no formating or anything is necessary.
also, for those that use key commands a lot and have some complex customization, what is your opinion on its reliability? my questioning is due to the possible utilization of a remote session of logic, receiving custom MIDI sysex commands to basically remote control functionality via MIDI. (i will be sending commands via TCP, but there will be a local server sending MIDI to the host machine) do key commands ever not execute? if you send a rapid sequence of key commands, do they execute in a predictable fashion? etc...

Why do you need to use Sysex commands? They're so much more complicated to program and keep track of...
In terms of reliability, sometimes I find that key commands "go bad". This is almost always a case of "key label" commands going bad and to fix the problem they need to be re-programmed as "key position". That's the only buggy behavior re key commands, aside from the bugs in the key command window itself. But that's another story. Here's the list:
