Need for iPad/PC/Mac networking at hospitals-

Need for networking at hospitals…
Our doctor (plus an IT guy for the hospital) is the go-to guy for the MDs that use Island hospital and want to review test results and documentation on each patient on the network. All imaging systems are now digital and are available minutes after testing is completed. Each nurse station documents patient status every hour.
They currently can review any document on a PC networked with hospital; however, they cannot access the network on their iPads. Turns out most of the doctors have Mac iPads and they enjoy the smallness compared to carrying a laptop, and would love to use the iPad (for record access) when going to the patients room.
He said that the hospital will convert to a more “Mac Friendly” system this year, however I really don’t think it will solve their issues.  (see below).
Our Doctor said that they wanted a better way to review records but the iOS in the iPad does not allow direct access/networking. Here is what I found out for him and would appreciate any ideas to improve on the approach.
My only known share/link between iPad, PC and/or Mac desktop
To Share Word, PDF, tiff, and jpg files, I use Drop Box application for iPad, PC and Mac. I Install Drop Box on each device via opening a free account with “Drop Box.” An email address and a pass-word is used for each device. ((note: the email must be verified when prompted after setting up the email account.))
Use wireless links. Any file to be accessed from an iPad must be placed (drag and drop) into Drop Box on one of the “linked” computers.
Each device sets up a Share/Link to other computer email addresses but email is not the method of sharing it just forms the basis for ID. I had no trouble setting up an iPad 2, PC-windows 7, and two Macs with OS 10.6.8.
Within Drop Box, you can Set up sub-folders to share documents and other computers and iPads will only see the subfolder they want to access. Any time you drag and drop a file in the folder it immediately shows up within seconds in all computers with the sub-folder name. If it is deleted from a folder on any device it is automatically deleted from all computers with that shared sub-folder name, and a linked email address
HELPFUL APPS ON IPAD if PDF files and Word files are used.
PDF2 Office, Bookshelf, Dropbox, iCloud mail, Pages… All but Bookshelf allows quick transfer to Dropbox; however if more interested in reading a document on a PC, this doesn’t really help. Real benefit of the this transfer is to share iPad info with PC or Mac.

I suspect a lot of hospitals are doing this.
Could you give a more detail description of how things work on a PC Laptop?
Is the data on a network share?
How does the data get to the PC?
How is the data accessed on the PC?
Is there an all in one program running on the pc to access the data?
Done in a web browser?  IE?
Windows File server access.  Get permission to check out what servers are around. See what the data looks like.

  • Can someone tell me what settings I need for ipad texting.  Went to Mexico and now can't get the texting to work at all on ipad.  Thanls

Can someone tell me what settings I need for ipad texting.  I went to Mexico and when I returned the texting does not work on my ipad.  The support at Apple wanted to charge me to get info.
    THanks

Can't address the problem directly, cause even though my iPad4 is Cell+Wi-Fi, I've never put a SIM in it and never had the need to text, SMS or iMessage, from it. When away from the office or home wireless network, I tether it off the iPhone. Skype, both text and video, work just fine thru the Wi-Fi link, though.
HOWEVER, when I was hashing out the contract details to get the iPhone 5 about 14 months ago at Telcel, the representative distinctly mentioned that both Visual Voicemail as well as iMessages would be included in the package and they would be mandatory cause "I was getting a (subsidized) Apple iPhone" on a 24 month leash. Then when the gizmo came out of its box for SIM installation and activation, she went thru the motions of making sure both were working properly.  So I assume the carrier has some say in the matter.

  • What kind of wireless card I need for my Power Mac G5 (late 2005) Dual 2 GH

    hi there,
I have for sometime now a "Power Mac G5 (late 2005) Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5", and recently I have been thinking to get an Airport extreme wireless card with a bluetooth on it, which could work on my machine.
I have already try to deal with apple representatives and Apple sales people to give me a hand on the matter and so far is been a nightmare to approach this guys, tired of wasting time and effort, so that is way I am posting a topic on this section to see if you guys could give a hand on the matter.
All what I would like to know is what kind of wireless card I need for my Power Mac G5 (late 2005) Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 (version 10.4.11) and where I could buy one on line to install myself.
This is the mac unit I have.
    Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5.
    Hardware Overview:
    Machine Name: Power Mac G5
    Machine Model: PowerMac11,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (1.1)
    Number Of CPUs: 2
    CPU Speed: 2 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 4.5 GB
    Bus Speed: 1 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: 5.2.7f1
    Thanks for you time.

You're welcome. Funny how Apple works isn't it? If it's any consolation, that Airport/Bluetooth card doesn't show up on the Apple U.S. store either. I don't think they ever intended it to be a user installable part, so perhaps that's why they don't offer it for sale. Do you have any Apple Authorized Service providers in your area? I'd think they'd be able to order the card as a replacement part.
Can you give a little more detail or a link to the gadget you're referring to? It sounds like a USB dongle to enable Wi-Fi, but that must be a third party solution, since I don't believe Apple ever offered something like that.

    No.
The iCloud services require 10.7.5, or higher.

  • Which flash need for iPad 1

WHich flash player need for ipad1

Flash is not supported on any iOS devices - entirely Apples decision. If you want to view Flash content, you need Adobe AIR or downlaod the stuff as an compiled applet, which most games or such do...

  • Help needed for a new Mac user with his photo and video librarys

after swopping my Ericson for an iphone a year ago. then taking delivery of an iPad on launch day. I have finally taken the plunge and swopped my windows pc for a lovely 27" iMac... what have I been doing all these years using windows? using the Mac is a joy.
As I get more involved with their products I am constantly fascinated (and frustrated) by Apples way of doing things. this situation is no exception and I need Apple people with Apple experience to help me make a decision.
I am looking at software to organise my photos and videos. I have approximately 7000 photos residing on a windows home server. in addition to that there are some 200 or so HD videos taken with either my Sanyo Xacti camcorder or Sony DSC W300 camera. both cameras I think produce MPEG format
my first experience was iPhoto. great for the `price' but not very flexible. single libraries, poor editing facilities. and because I have files referenced and not copied to my iPhoto library, if I deleted from the library its not deleted from the server (and vice versa). this leads to images being displayed in the library that don't exist etc.
then I downloaded the Aperture 3 trial. great until I came across the `Unsupported file format' situation with the MPEG videos that strangely enough, iPhoto will recognise and play (the Apple way of doing things).
    1. should I put the photos on the Mac instead of the server?
    2. Is there a better way of managing the images for deletions etc
    3. should I stick with Aperture because of the editing
    4. is there a better software or way of managing the videos
sorry for the ramble but its all new to me

had a good session on all three of the recommended programs and now have a better understanding of the excellent advice I have been given.
    iPhoto
great `free' program that is easy to use but somewhat limited on features. think I would always be looking to upgrade from here (feels a bit boring)
    Aperture
really enjoyed using this but at £170! a hefty price tag considering its limited file support. fortunately its only my camera video clips (MPEG) that it wont view. my camcorder files (MP4) are fine so this is looking better as a one stop solution.
    Elements
much more than just a image touch up. considering what it can do.. very good value at around £60. teamed with iPhoto it becomes even more attractive.
My issue still remains with the masters file location.
I would prefer to keep all my media on the external server to ensure I have a fail safe recovery option. its a 4TB 5 disk affair which contains all the family music, video images and DVD's etc (likely to change to a Mac server in the future!)
one feature that I cant find, (even in Aperture which surprises me), is the ability to automatically manage deletions from referenced locations? i.e. delete a file from the server and when aperture opens up the thumbnails are updated. or, delete a referenced master in Aperture and an option comes up to delete the referenced file on the external drive.
how would a professional photographer or studio using Aperture manage this process (or would they use something else?)
forgot to mention that through our student facilities i can get a discounted copy of Photoshop CS5 for around £175 which is close to Aperture. is this a worthwhile option or overkill

  • Sync numbers for ipad with mac

Hey I just got an ipad 2 and the numbers app.  I need to keep my databases in sync..ie updates on ipad should sync with mac and visa versa, please give me some advice on how this can best be achieved?
    Chris

The only way I have found so far is:
Syncing from the Mac to iPad - you need to ADD the file to the iTunes file list, under File Sharing, for the appropriate App. This applies every time the file is changed on the Mac. If the file already exists on iTunes you will need to accept the overwrite option for the updated file. Next remove the file from the iPad and import the file again over WiFi from the Mac.
Syncing from the iPad to the Mac - highlight the file to be in sync [ for Pages and Numbers the file in the centre of the screen under My Documents ] and select the Transfer icon. Then select the option Transfer to iTunes. In iTunes you then need to select the file and click on the Save To button and then select where the updated file is to be saved.
The problem with transferring documents to the iPad etc. is that it needs to be attached to the Mac in order that the list of Apps and Documents that allow File Sharing can be seen. Strangely the only way to transfer files back and forth is via WiFi - not USB. Stupid really. Apple needs to sort this out as the current arrangement is rather amateurish.

  • Pages for iPad and Mac Book Pro

I bought Pages for my iPad. Can I now load it to my Mac Book Pro?

Sorry, no. They are different version for different operating system, and will need to be purchased separately.

  • Format external HD for use with Mac Network and PC

System config: Home network: Mac Pro & MacBook Pro connected via AirPort Extreme. Both run OS X 10.5.6. The Mac Pro also runs Windows XP Pro. Work computer: Dell, Latitude D830 running Windows XP Pro.
Situation: I have a Western Digital WDMT5000TN 500GB Portable HD, (FireWire 800 & USB). The WDMT5000TN came formatted Mac OS Extended, which, as I suspected, could neither be read nor written to in XP. I reformatted the drive NTFS in XP Pro. This worked well with XP but was read only in OS X.
Ideally, I would like to format the drive so that it is both read/write capable with both OS X & XP Pro and handle file transfers in excess of 100 MB. If this is not possible my second choice would be to have the drive read/write OS X & read only XP, given that I upload mostly in the Apple domain & would be able to perform backups of it’s contents using Time Machine with OS X.
If anyone has a formatting recommendation or related information that may help I would appreciate your insight. Thank you.

    Two basic options:
    1. Format the drive FAT32 (MS-DOS) which is read/write on both Windows and OS X.
    2. Leave the drive formatted NTFS and install software on OS X to enable read/write access. The options are: a.) Paragon NTFS for Mac OS X - 6.5.1; b.) MacFuse and NTFS-3G 2009.2.1u1; and, c.) NTFS for Mac 1.0.

  • Can you transfer pages for ipad to Mac mini through iCloud or will I have to buy it again?

  • Retrieving old non iBookstore iBook content for iPad from Mac

I have recently bought a new iPad and decided to make a clean sweep and start from scratch.
I have deleted all the old backups for my old iPad as they were hogging space and I thought I wouldn't need them however I forgot that I had a lot of books in iBooks (and PDFs) that weren't from the iBooks store so I can't restore those with my iCloud ID.
I have Time machine backups but don't know where to look for these – they must be stored in library somewhere. Any help appreciated.

I just used Find Any File to search for a pdf file I knew was in my iPad load. I'll try to include an image of the directory structure it showed for this iBooks file:
Perhaps this will give you an idea of where to look. Or you could search with Find Any File app like I did.

  • How much space does a artist need for ipad(16 gb, 32gb, 64gb)?

Which i pad would be best for playing games and eductaional apps?

An artist needs 128gb. They do not make that so you will have to settle for the 64gb Your imagination needs to fit in there! If you are going to download art apps, edit movies, and take lots of photos that get transferred to the iPad that is going to take up lots of space. If you are a starving artist, you'll be able to get by on 16gb and eating a little less for a few months, but you'll need to be more careful managing space.
