Colin Moock is a top choice. His Essential ActionScript 3.0
isn't
coming out until June, but he did have an AS3 pocket
reference from O'Reilly
already. Oddly, this book no longer seems to be available on
Amazon, but if
you search the ISBN number online, you'll find a number of
people still
selling this book.

I just bought my first Mac ( 20 inch Intel iMac) and need a good reference book that covers OS X from a users standpoint (as opposed to a programmer's reference). It would be great if it also covered iLife, pre-installed utilities, etc. I'm an experienced computer user (from the Windows side of the world) and am looking for a reference book to help me make the transition to the Mac and OS X. I look forward to the day when I can take the last of my Windows computers to the recycling center, and work in a pure Mac environment.

There is not better book then the online documentation. Reading books on Enterprise Application systems is different then reading a C# or SQL book. No one can explain you what to do in what circumstances in a book.
There are things that can be learnt only by experience. The book on Amazon, I would say is not going to be helpful. I have seen the book and it has nothing extra ordinary.
The e-learning curriculam and the online materials are the best resources at this time.

Dan Margulis is the best - either his Lab book or Professonal Photoshop.
The curvemeister on line class is another possibility - windows only.

Need your advice!!
im planning to take up sap certified development associate (c_taw12_731) certification test so i was wondering whether a previous version reference book is valid to use??
i have 2+ years of ABAP development experience.
im on a saudi arabian residence visa so i can take the test exclusively without training thats confirmed from SAP middleeast.
however i came across a 2005edition reference book & im wondering is it still a valid reference book for the test considering the updates in the technology.
the 2005 reference book has taw10_1, taw10_2, taw10_3.
taw12_1, taw12_2.
if yes, pls advice the topics its missing out compared to the c_taw12_731 syllabus.
please suggest.

ABAP doesn't change much over time, so all the study material you can find will help you prepare.
Try to find as many (realistic) sample questions as you can. They are very good at helping you study

Thanks Community! I solved the problem. In fact it was not a problem but lack of understanding. These guys at Apple are way ahead in thir thinking. I will try to explain as short as I can.
In Lion, ihe Prefferences/Display show only two choices: 6-7 steps of resolution and some color tab. No two screens, no two display to overlap, nothing for us to do. "That was the problem"! Everything is automatic.
When I connected the HDMI cable to the Miniport into a T-bolt slot, the TV screen showed the "spiral galaxy" how Zyriab is calling it. In fact he gave me the best clue. That shows the connection is good. But where is the Mac Book image?
You have to drag it to the right out of the Mac Book display area, and "voila!" it will continue on the TV screen. The same with the mouse pointer, push it out ofthe Mac Book display area and you see it on the TV sreen. Good image, you can keep the max resolution, etc. The sound is still on the Book's speakers. I have to figure that out.

I want to navigate a Java-application in SAP.
The Java-application is a routing-software.
The SAP-user (the planner/coodinator) should choose a
customer and a worker/sales-person in an ABAP-application.
So this the SAP-user plans, which sales person drives to
which customer.
The ABAP-application should give this information to the java-application
which then plans the route! The user should not remark anything from
the communication between abap- and java-application.
Has anybody an idea with which technique I can realise the problem?
Can anybody advice me a good manual or book concerning this topic?

What does unknown caller context mean? and how does it cause local references to remain allocated in reference table although the native function returns?

You want to write a utility function that is called from unknown contexts. The MyNewString example shown in Section 4.3 illustrates the use of Delete-LocalRef to delete promptly local references in a utility function. Otherwise there will be two local references that remains allocated after each call to the MyNewString function.

how does it cause local references to remain allocated in reference table although the native function returns?Because it doesn't return to the JVM where it gets deallocated, it returns to the unknown caller context, i.e. some other piece of native code in your JNI layer. So the references remain until the unknown caller context returns to the JVM.

Anyone Recommend a Reference Book for Pages?

Specifically, I'm interested in a reference book for the latest version of Pages--just downoaded it from the App Store--for creating books to be exported to epub and viewable in the iBook app. I'm a print book designer of 22 years' experience, so I don't really need a beginners book on Pages unless it really, really covers making book for export to epub.
Preferably something I can read on my iPad in either the iBook app, the Kindle app, or even as a PDF. (A public doman--free--book would be really nice at the moment.

i need good gui in swing. i need to develope a small application of library management system where a librarian and manager access the database. librarian take care of add,del,modify the records of customer and books. with good login screens. and the manager is to generate reports

I'm afraid there is no quick way of learning J2EE. Of all the people on this forum only a few have truly mastered the framework. I suggest you learn it step-by-step by following the tutorial. Read the introduction to give you a glimpse of the technology and then, dive in....
The way I learned it was by building a three-tier website based on Servlets, JSP and EJB. After a few days/weeks in hell, I had an overview of the technology. I suggest you do the same.
As for book suggestions : stick to the standards. You (almost) can't go wrong with Wrox or O'Reilly.
