If she wants to do HD on her TV, she's going to need a halfway decent graphics card. An onboard 256MB ATI chipset is going to struggle if she's wanting to do full 1080p video.
The question is whether she wants to do 1080p (requires a Blu-Ray drive) or just Hulu/Netflix/etc.  Note that Adobe Flash is notoriously CPU-hungry and until recently didn't take advantage of modern graphics chipsets at all.  (Now it sort-of does.)
That said - Even the integrated graphics that came with an Athlon 62 x2 should be able to drive 1920x1080.  Heck, I watched 1080i ATSC recordings with a 2.0 GHz Athlon XP 2800+ and a GeForce FX5900.  (Which had VERY little in terms of 2D acceleration capabilitys - MPEG-2 motion compensation was about it.)

I purchased a new laptop from BB about 6 months ago, a Toshiba Satellite P875. I need a graphics card with at least 128mb of dedicated memory and think I only have a chip with 32mb of dedicated memory. I was wondering if anyone knows what would be good, keeping in mind that cost is an issue.
    Thanks.

That link lists all the expansion packs, and if they will, will not, or might work with various graphics cards(the list is fairly extensive).
My guess is that your CPU picked up the slack for your lacking GPU in the base game, but the later expansion packs seem to weed out all but the higher end cards.
Unfortunately, you don't have a gaming computer, so the best you can do is see just how far down you can turn the graphics settings/resolutino.

  • Need graphics card advice pls

getting ready to buy quad and i now have 1.8 dual w/geoforce 6600 ddl running 2 30in displays - i see that i can order a 7800gt but i need 2 and dosent give me the option to get a 2nd - or should i just gohead and get the quadro fx - i am going to be doing alot of video editing and also using alot of motion and live type along with digital photography work using apeture or lightroom later - what is the best way to go about this

The 7800 is a better buy than the Quadro. The NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 graphics card occupies the 16-lane PCI Express slot and adjacent PCI Express slot. The PowerMac G5 only supports a maximum of one NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 or GeForce 7800 GT card per system. If you want a second video card Apple recommends the NVIDIA GeForce 6600.

  • Need graphics card recommendation

So I've just ordered a new model MBP 15" Retina, upgrading the 2.0 ghz i7 quadcore to 2.3, and doubling the RAM to 16 gb.  This includes the 256 gb flash HD, and the new default config Intel Iris Pro graphics card (no NVIDIA graphics card).  FWIW, I'll be plugged into my thunderbolt display (already own) for video editing.
The new MBP is of course a hefty hit to my pocketbook.  Yet, I'm still torn by the notion that for $250 (I get the educational discount) I could go ahead and add the NVIDIA 750 2 gb card, not to mention doubling my HD (mainly to future-proof it - I only use about 122 gb right now).
Is it worth it or is Iris Pro good enough for FCPX, and presumably some Motion 5, Compressor etc?
I haven't edited in years, but I have just returned from Nepal, where I shot several hours of HD footage that I'm going to be editing together with stills for a doc.  I'm a writer-filmmaker, so if it comes out as I hope it will, this will be a professional sample and festival submission.  I have no clue how much use of Motion or After Effects I'll need to use - in fact I have no clue how to use these, but presumably I'll figure it out.  Some of the footage has issues, it was all shot run and gun, so it could be I'll use that stuff a lot.
Do I need the NVIDIA 750 card or can I rest easy with just Iris Pro?
Thanks so much for advice either way!!
    Andrew

I have a 2TB backup drive and a 6TB RAID network storage.  I load new video directly onto the backup drive to save hard drive space on the iMac, then copy it to the RAID for safekeeping.  I can wipe it from the backup when I'm done with it, and still have two copies on the network RAID.  I consider this to be the minimum for HD.
I ended up with about five hours of AVCHD footage that I had to sort through to pick out the little morsels I needed, along with some .MOV files from a DSLR.  I'm not sure how much space it took up when I converted the AVCHD into .MOV files, but I started out with about 650GB available (after clearing it off) and now I have about 150 GB.  That includes what FCPX generated as I edited.  I don't want to go below that 150GB level, as the processing performance drops.  I keep the .MOV files on the main hard drive because that's the quickest access.  I keep a sharp eye on the capacity.
Fortunately I did well enough on this project that it got me a lot more work.  Unfortunately, if I decide to pursue it more seriously I know I'll have to get a better system.  I'm already looking at the new Mac Pro with at least 32 Gs of RAM, the biggest internal hard drive available, and a massive Thunderbolt RAID.  With the deadlines I've run into, it's the only way I'll be able to get things done without staying up until 4 a.m. waiting for stuff to transfer (I got this iMac just before they started coming out with Thunderbolt, darn it).  If I had to choose, I'd get more hard drive storage versus more RAM.  In my experience, 16GB does OK, but then I haven't  had to render anything longer than ten minutes in HD.
If you use Time Machine for back-up onto the 1TB external drive, you're probably going to have to get an additional drive.  I would recommend one to two TB depending on how big your final files are.  If you decide to RAID that second external drive-- highly recommended-- then you'd need to get double that.  Get a Thunderbolt splitter so you can run both of them at the same time.  If you need to convert the RAW files, keep those on the second drive.
Very best of luck, and send us a link to the piece when you are done.  -JB

  • Need Graphics Card Driver

I spent 2 weeks (18 hr/day) making a video using Cyberlink Power Director. Upon producing it so I could download to a DVD I received message that I needed to update the graphics card in my new L55-A5290?! I connected with Intel and was directed to remove the Intel graphics drive from the computer and was given a download to install a new and improved Intel graphics drive. This laptop would not accept it  - "was not compatible". So now I need to install one from Toshiba.... ASAP. I need this video tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where is this downoad. Nowhere on the list of drivers do I see one for GRAPHICS. I NEED HELP NOW!

  • Need graphics card pb 3400

i have a pb 3400  bought new. Runs fine but no screen. battery shot. Has to be plugged in.
No screen now. Been told I need a grapics card. Need it because my Agfa Studio scan, 11 x 14
in mint condition will not work on OSX and Agfa will not upgrade. also does not have USB connection.
    So......anyone have a battery and a graphics card for a PB 3400 ?
    Thanks.

The PB 3400 does not have a separate gfx card like a desktop computer does. The video hardware is soldered to the logic board. New gfx hardware means a new logic board.
When i checked the source I've used for PowerBook bateries, they no longer list one for the 3400. Google is your friend for that.
I used an 1998-vintage AGFA DUOScan under OSX (Panther) by getting VueScan:
    http://hamrick.com/
It worked an order of magnitude better than the AGFA software that came with the scanner that only worked with OS9 and older. It's payware but, believe me, it was worth every penny.
Your problem will be in connecting a SCSI scanner to a newr Mac. I used an Adaptec PCI SCSI card in a PowerMac G4 MDD, but those cards are getting hard to find.

  • Satellite L655-19H - Need graphic card driver for Windows 8

    Hello!
I have a problem with VGA drivers on my L655-19H in Windows 8. Last drivers on Toshiba site only for windows 7 and don't work with my W8.
I instal drivers manually, but some games tell me "bad video card drivers". Microsoft drivers dont work too.
    Sry for my english.

As Silas wrote, the Win 8 system isnt supported for this notebook model.
I found on Toshiba page an Win 8 supported model matrix and this series isnt listed.
This means that Win 8 drivers will not be available.
If you need Win 8 graphic drivers, you will need to search at your own hand on some 3rd party websites like omegadrivers.net or similar.
As Im not mistaken the notebook uses the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphic chip.

  • Tecra M5 - Need graphics card driver to run a widescreen resolution

I have a Tecra M5 with the Intel 945GM Express chipset. Is there a driver available that will allow me to run a widescreen monitor sucessfully?
At the moment the screen is stretched and I do not have the 1280x960 setting available to me as an option.
    Help!!!!

Try to download the graphic driver from the Intel page. This is a original Intel GPU driver which could helps to use an widescreen resolution.
After choosing the appropriate driver for your operating system, download the driver file to a location on your harddisk.
The downloaded driver cannot be installed since the Toshiba driver is still present and needs to be removed.
To remove the driver perform the following steps:
    1. Go to Control Panel by clicking on "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Add or Remove Programs" and choose the "Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver"
    2. Click on "Change/Remove" and remove the driver by following the uninstall wizard
    3. Restart the machine and install the driver by opening the downloaded file
    4. Restart your machine
    5. After restart, connect your external screen to your machine
    6. Right-click on the desktop and left-click on "Properties"
    7. Go to "Settings" -> "Advanced" -> "Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile" -> "Graphics Properties"
    8. To set the native resolution on the external screen, choose the mode in the Section "Display Devices" and the resolution in "Display Settings"
    9. Make sure to disable the screen rotation, otherwise your screen will be rotated when choosing a wrong resolution.

  • Need graphic card XP driver for Satellite L300D-043

    Hi Everyone !
Here's one you never heard before - I toasted the OS on this Toshiba L300D-043 that is really a PSLC8C-043019 from it's bloody useless VISTA down to XP and I managed to dig up enough drivers for everything except the video card in it.
Now I show it as a ATI Radeon 3100 series, at least thats what the windows 7 install says it is .....
So one again the hunt continues .... does anyone know what other series of laptops has the same video chipset and it will install happilly on this PC?
I went to ATI and found the chipset and got told by the site they don''t provide it for the mobility series .... thanks ATI !
Once again, I need the XP version of a ATI video driver that will run on a Toshiba D300L-043 that used to be Vista and now runs XP Pro instead!!
    Thanks for your help !!

  • HP H8-1020 - Upgrading graphics card/power supply

    Hey,
Looking to give my almost 5 year old PC a much needed graphics card boost. As mentioned in the title, I have a HP h8-1020. After reading other posts from users on this forum, It seems that the power supply provided with this model (300W) is completely insufficient for any new, decent graphics card.
    I also use a 27 inch Samsung S27D360 Monitor.
I read that some people used the corsair CX500/600 with a Nvidia GT X series (2Gb) card as a suitable upgrade. However I don't know much about power supplies or performance graphics cards.  I'm not looking for an absolute top of the line card, just one that can run most modern high-intensity graphics games. I'm hoping for a price range of about $100 for the power supply, and no more than $200 for the graphics card.
Here are some of the games that I would like to run on high - max settings (preferably in 1920x1080):
    Diablo 3
    Skyrim
    Grand Theft Auto V
    The Elder Scrolls: Online
Any help with suggestions for a new power supply/graphics card would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi,
The Corsair CX600 would be a good choice for a power supply as would the Corsair CS650m.
You have an older PC which usually requires an older generation graphics cards.  The NVIDIA GTX 660 would be a good choice.
ZOTAC makes a number of graphics cards that are compatible back to PCI-E version 1.1.  Model  ZT-90101-10P is compatible back to PCI-E version 1.1 and is available at Best Buy.

Hello All.... I am in need of some urgent help..

If you choose instead to adapt the DVI to your new display, this adapter, US$129, is suggested by the Mac [display] Cable Chooser:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H5236ZM/A/kanex-c247d-single-link-dvi-to-mini- displayport-converter?fnode=78
    The Mac [display] Cable Chooser:
    http://store.apple.com/us/mac/mac-accessories/cables/cable-chooser
Mac or PC 5770 uses only one of the two aux power cables, so it can be doubled up -- but it is two slots tall, so it will block the slot above, and may not run at full speed when not in slot 1.

Honestly I wouldn't spend too much trying to upgrade your computer. It has an aging dual core Athlon processor, and only 2GB of RAM. Even with the highest top of the line card, with that CPU/RAM setup, your computer is probably going to struggle to run it.

  • Need help with power supply & graphics card upgrades

I have a HP Pavilion p6320y that I bought 8 months ago. AMD Phenom II x4820 Quad Core processor.   I play WoW and since the last big patch, have been suffering with low fps. I updated drivers and followed all the advice given to me by Blizz and finally figured out that my Nvidia GeForce 9100 (integrated graphics) isn't good enough anymore.
I checked my computer and discovered that I have a 300w power supply (12V) and read on another post here that something stronger than 300w is needed to run a decent graphics card.
    Now for my questions:
How much of a power supply can I upgrade to without hurting my computer, but will be enough to run a good card?
What would be a good graphics card for this computer?
I've been looking at the Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express graphics card and wonder if that will work on my computer.  Most of the nicer cards seem to be the PCI Express and I'm not sure if that will work.
Any advice will be most helpful. I have some experience with the inner workings of my PC and would like to fix this myself instead of running to the closest computer shop and paying someone else to. Thanks!
    This question was solved.

Well, you are starting out from a fairly low baseline with the integrated graphics. It will not cost much to have a substantial increase if all you want to do is run WoW without error messages. Yes, the 300w power supply is an issue and rules out any card that will require its own power (i.e. needs its own power cord like a hard drive) but there are several mid-grade cards that can run off bus power alone (i.e. just from the pci-e slot itself). Just taking a quick look at newegg.com I see the following:
    GeForce 9400 under $50
    Radeon HD 4650 under $50
    GeForce 9500GT a little over $50
Any of these should get you where you want to be and not require a PS upgrade. The slot you have available is a PCI Express x16 slot so don't look at AGP cards; they will not work. If you want to install the card you mention you need to get a better PSU.
