Need guru assistance printing over airport to unsupported printer

OK. I have an HP 3650 attached to an Airport Express. In my home wireless network (powered by Buffalo router) there are several windows machines and one mac mini, all connecting over 802.11g.
I cannot print to this printer using the Mac mini, and I guess that makes sense, it's not supported. But I configured the Airport using the mac, and I can print to that printer wirelessly using my windows machines.
In fact, technically, I can even print from the Mac mini - when I'm printing from Windows XP home in a Parallels session. So it drives me nuts nuts NUTS that I can't print natively from OS X, even using direct IP printing and CUPS drivers and whatnot.
Anybody out there got the elite skills to get this thing working? I just can't bring myself to buy a new printer just because "the world's most advanced operating system" can only print to it when running Microsoft software.
tl;dr - how can I hack my OSX to print natively to my HP 3650 over airport express?
Thanks in advance
-Kurt

Have you downloaded the latest drivers from HP? It's a Deskjet correct? There are OSX drivers on HP's support page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=219&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&produc t=304535&lang=en

  • Cannot print over Airport using Tiger

I run a Airport wlan where originally two Macs (an eMac and a PowerBook) were running OS X 10.3.9 and printing over wlan to Epson Stylus CX6400 worked fine. I installed 10.4.4 to Power Book and printing works no more: the printe queue is stopped. You can start it but it stops again in two seconds. Printing by using direct USB connection works ok. Also printing from the eMac using 10.3.9 over wlan works ok. No Airport update has helped. Does anybody have the same problem or have suggestions on what to do?
    PowerBookG4 Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I answear to my own question:
I removed the printer and reinstalled it and now it works ok.
Try this if you have printer problems with 10.4.4.

  • Tiger on iNtel iMac "Printing" over Airport to HP 2100M

Nice new iNtel iMac 2GHz running Airport Extreme can't print via Airport to a networked HP 2100M. The HP has an EIO card and it's connected to the LAN by that cable.
I have an old iMac that's hardwired to an ethernet hub that's being driven by the AEB and the HP 2100M is also connected to that hub.
The old iMac sees the printer and prints just fine.
The new Intel iMac doesn't see the HP over Appletalk and I'm not able to figure out how to setup the new iMac to print via Airport using the IP address of the HP printer.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Here's a 30,000 ft level view of my LAN:
Internet Cloud =>Comcast Cable ISP =>Cable Router
    AEB =>Linksys Ethernet Hub
    •iMac 350MHz (don't laugh. She's still a beauty) OSX 10.2.8
•HP 2100M with Network EIO card
iNtel iMac (sees the Internet just fine via AEB, but can't see the printer for patootie!)
iNtel iMac 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   HP 2100M with EIO network card, AEB LAN,

Unfortunately, that didn't work. I power cycled the cable modem, AEB, router hub, and the printer and the iMac still can't "see" the printer.
I've looked at the Airport discussions and this problem is a larger issue than the iNtel iMacs. It sounds like it's probably an AEB issue.
I'm running the latest firmware to no avail. It almost sounds to me in the Apple literature that they only support USB printing through Airport. This would be a serious blunder as the business world relies more on networked server based laserwriters than USB dot matrix printers.

  • Brother dcp 9040 cn not printing over airport wifi

i am unsure if this is a 10.6.3 upgrade issue
i have a brother dcp 9040 cn which i have been using for the past year very happily over the wifi airport network.
it has stopped printing over the wifi
it works fine with the usb connection
it appears fine with bonjour & selects ok except when i print over the wifi it tries to connect but never does and then always pauses.
i have upgraded the firmware on the printer from the brother site and have loaded the latest drivers from brother for osx
    has anyone got any suggestions?
    thanks

10.6.3 came with the latest drivers for your printer.
    Try resetting the printing system.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/14001.html
    Don't install any print software.
See if your Mac sees that printer.
If so, select it and see if you can print.

  • Norton Antivirus blocks printing to Airport Express-attached printer

I have my HP Photosmart C4480 ("the free printer") set up with my airport express base station and it works fine, but only if I disable the portscan vulnerability protection in Norton Antivirus (11.0.1). Does anyone know if there is a better way to use the Airport Express print server? Am I exposing my network to portscan attacks?

You may have not been aware that you need to have an AirPrint compatible printer to be able to print directly from the iPhone or iPad.
Unfortunately, your Epson R230 is not on the list of compatible devices. See the link below for more information about AirPrint compatible devices.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
You might want to check with Epson Support to see if they may have an updated driver for download that would allow this, or whether they plan to make an update available in the future for your model.
If no luck there, a possible workaround would be to install an application like Printopia on your Mac. There is a free trial for the Printopia software, so you will know in a few minutes whether this might work for you. Your Mac must be running for this to work.

  • Appletalk laserwriter won't print over airport wireless. please help.

i have an old apple personal laserwriter 320 which prints plug and play to my G5 (10.4.4) connecting ethernet (appletalk on) with asantetalk adapter. no problems at all.
i like to share this printer wirelessly by connecting it an airport express base station.
i cannot get my network of powerbook and G5 (all 10.4.4) to print to it, they cannot see it.
    1. can it be used wirelessly with the airport express base station?
    2. what about airport extreme base station?
3.i turned on appletalk in airport under network settings. how about under airport admin utilities?
i must be setting the network configurations wrong, or is it appletalk or the asantetalk ethernet adapter?
can someone please help me through this setup?

Well, I use an HP-6MP with an AsanteTalk hooked to an Airport Extreme Base Station and I use Tiger 10.4.4 and everything works fine. My wife's dual USB iBook, circa 2001, with an internal airport card, uses the HP printer with no problems. The same setup works with OS 9 too.
I also have an Airport Express hooked up to my livingroom stereo that I use with both iTunes and AirFoil. I've never tried using the Airport Express with the AsanteTalk, but I can't imagine that it wouldn't work since it works with the AEBS.
The startup routine is touchy, the printer has to be allowed to fully complete its warmup cycle before powering up the AsanteTalk. Try disconnecting the power to the AsanteTalk for about 10 seconds while everything else is hooked and powered up, then reconnect the power, the lights should flash on the AsanteTalk, then open the Printer Setup Utility, wait about 10 seconds and the printer should then appear, if it isn't there already. When we have power outages from say thunderstorms, I often have to recycle the AsanteTalk's power because when the power comes back on, it completes it startup cycle before the HP does and printer setting disappears.
It's not a matter of adding AppleTalk to the AEBS or Airport Express. There are no options for that. The settings are only in the computer network/airport settings. Both of your computers need to be configured to have AppleTalk active under the Airport network settings.
And as mentioned before, don't use the yellow ethernet cord.

  • Windows can't print to Airport Express connected printer

installed new Airport Express replacing an old Linksys wireless router. Have a mix of Windoze and Mac clients that need to connect to shared (USB Connected) printer, supported off the AE router.
All Mac clients are able to see, connect to, and print to the USB attached MFC 440CN Brother printer.
The Windows devices cannot connect to, see, or utilize the same printer.
Any thoughts on what setting I might have Ito change in order to correct this problem?

  • Can't seem to print via Airport Express & Xerox Printer

For some reason I cannot make this happen. I have an Airport Express plugged in. The USB cable is linked between my Xerox 6280n and the Express.
    What now?
I hit print, then click the Xerox under nearby printers, it says there is new software from Apple, so I click "download and install" then it says the software is "currently unavailable". I can print directly from the computer no problem, I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
I download the firmware update from Xerox and it asks me to "set the IP address for printer"
I printed out the test copy and it listed the IP as 0.0.0.0 that has to be wrong, I have no idea at this point.

    Welcome to the discussion area!
Sometimes repeated resets will temporarily lock up the AirPort Express (AX). Try powering it off for 30-45 minutes or so. Then hold in the reset button +and keep holding it in+ as you plug the AX back in to power. Release the reset button after 8-10 seconds. This is known as a Factory Default Reset.
Try connecting the ethernet cable again between your computer and the AX to help AirPort Utility "see" the AX so that you can reconfigure it.
If you try the Factory Default Reset a few more times and AirPort Utility still cannot "see" the AX, I'm afraid that this is an indication that something has failed within the AX and it will need to be replaced.

  • Problem with printing over the shared network printer

I have a very irritating problem.
To describe the situation. I have 2 computers and non of them is mine. First one have Windows Vista, and second one have Windows 8.1. There is also a printer which is connected with usb to the computer with Windows 8.1. I managed to share that printer on
the network, and when I connect to that printer and enter username and password (from Windows 8.1) on the pc that have Windows Vista, I can print without any problem.
The problem start when I restart the computer with Windows Vista. I can't print unless I connect to that printer again and again enter the username and password. Like Windows Vista for some reason is not storing those credentials. It is very irritating to
do that all the time, becase everything worked before like a charm.
Is there something I didn't do about those credentials, or is there some batch script that I could run in startup that will connect Windows Vista PC with that printer without any user input?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
When you restart the Vista, have you checked the credential in credential manager (Control Panel\Credential Manager)? Does it exist? You can clear cached unused credential and manually add the printer Windows Credential in the manager and check if it
    helps.
You can also use a logon script to add the printer automatically every time you logon to the PC, you can refer to thsi example, some content need to be changed depends on your configuration.

  • Why Can't iphone 4 print to airport express connected printer?

And it won't be available in IOS 4.3 by the looks of it.. Iam I the only one thinks this is redonkulus?

the way printers connected to airport express works is that the computer install a special driver for the printer connected on the usb of the express
this not being an option on iso devices
apple made airprint so devices which supported the std would be able to print from any ios device
it's an open std which as far as I know apple don't charge anybody for supporting
the alternative is apple adding drivers to all known printers from osx to ios and that is not plausible for storage space and testing of the drivers

  • Problem setting up printer for AirPort Extreme wireless printing

I have an AirPort Extreme 802.11n and I've connected my Canon MP240 printer to it via USB. However, my MacBook Pro (running OS X 10.8.4) says the printer is "offline" when it is plugged into AirPort Extreme and turned on. When I try to add it as a new printer, it recognizes it as a "Nearby Printer" and asks me to download and install the software from Apple. It then searches for the software for about a minute and gives me this error message: "Can't install the software for the Canon MP240 series because it is not currently available from the Software Update server." I've tried directly downloading the drivers from Apple's website http://support.apple.com/kb/DL899 and from Canon's website http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_s eries/pixma_mp240#DriversAndSoftware but neither work.
HOWEVER, the strangest part is if I were to connect the printer to my MacBook Pro directly via USB, it recognizes the printer and I can print no problem. This leads me to believe the drivers have already been installed onto my computer. If anyone knows how to get around this issue I'd greatly appreciate the help.

  • Printing over a Dot Matrix Printer

    Hi,
I want to do printing on a Dot Matrix Priner. Can any body help me how to perform this task.
    Regards,

    You can either,
    - use the OS drivers using the Java Printing API
    - write the printers codes to is directly using the Java COMMS API
    - buy another printers.
My preference would be for the last one!

  • Printer Sharing works over wired network not over Airport - Why is this ?

Computer A (eMac, 10.2.8) has HP Laserjet connected via USB. Settings : Printer Sharing On, Firewall Off.
Computer B (G4 iBook, OS 10.3.9) when connected via ethernet cable (via router which shares my DSL line) can see and print the HP Laserjet.
Computer B when Airport turned on to join network via AX (plugged into router) cannot see any shared printers. Nor can I add Rendezvous, Appletalk or other printers.
I only just added Airport capability to the iBook, other network features (internet access, file-sharing with eMac etc) all seem to work fine.
If I plug the Ethernet cable in, computer B can now see the shared printer. If I then unplug the Ethernet cable, reverting the computer B to Airport access only, I can see and print to the shared printer.
Clearly, therefore I can print over Airport to the shared printer, but the mechanism of plugging in and then unplugging the ethernet cable isn't exactly an advert for Apple simplicity and elegance.
Would anyone care to enlighten me as to what is going on and how to fix it properly ?
    Kind Regards

    Greg,
many thanks for the prompt reply, and this looks a good suggestion. To clarify; I have a wired router (Netgear, can't remember exact model) and 2 Airport Express (which I call AX-A and AX-B). I use AX-A as a wireless access point and it is wired into the Netgear router. AX-B is used to provide internet access to an older iMac in a remote part of the house (not that my house is very big or anything, and is not (I believe) relevant to my printer sharing issue.
I am now using AX-A to allow my iBook to join the network. I will check when I return home, but believe the AX is already set up not to distribute IP addresses - these are from the (wired) router.
    Cheers

  • How do I get my new Mustek scanner to work over Airport Extreme?

We can't get our new scanner to even show up over our wireless network.
When I hook it straight to my iMac (2.8 GHz Intel Core Duo, OS X 10.6.8 [Snow Leopard]), I can use the enclosed software (ImageAcquire), but it does NOT show up either in ImageCapture nor can I add it via the Print & Fax preferences.  When I hook it through our (previous generation) AirPort Extreme, it doesn't even show up in the ImageAcquire software that came with it, and I get the message that a cable is disconnected.
The scanner is a Mustek A3 ScanExpress 2400, and is supposed to work on Macs, since it has its own drivers.  I have downloaded the most current drivers and software direct from the manufacturer.  Apple doesn't have it listed in Software Update.
We have successfully run our HP scanner/printer over AirPort.
    Any suggestions?  Thanks.

When you say that you are hooking up the Mustek device, I assume that you mean via the USB port on the AirPort. Is that correct?
If you are connecting the Mustek device via the USB port on the AirPort Extreme, and the device does not appear when you click Print & Fax, that would likely indicate that Mustek has not provided network drivers for their device.
The USB port on the AirPort is far different than the USB port on a computer.
You might want to ask Mustek support if they have network drivers available for use on an Apple AirPort router.
Keep in mind that in almost all cases, only the print function is supported when you connect an all-in-one or combo device to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme.
Unless something has changed very recently, you will not be able to use the scan function when you connect your other HP device to the USB port on the AirPorts.
If you are connecting the HP using wireless only or via Ethernet, then you should have full functionality that way.
