  • Need a FN/CTRL swap for a MSI GT740 | SPLIT

    Hi,
Donation is done. I need a FN/CTRL swap for a MSI GT740. Is that possible? Thx
I have the latest Bios 1.07 installed.

Yes and No. I see there was a small misunderstanding. I have normally a MS-1727 Barbone and i read in another forum, that i can use the GT740 BIOS and EC updates. That's why i wrote in the first thread, that i got a GT740, cause the original BIOS 1.07 and the original EC 4.04 are working fine. Only your modified EC 4.04 changed me fn and ctrl keys, like i wanted, but blocked the funktion of the 3 buttons under the power button.
    Here is a screen: http://www.msiwhitebook.com/product/notebook/MS-1727_1.jpg
Its from the msi whitebook page.
And in the other forum i found a BIOS 1.02 and a EC 4.03 especielly for the MS-1727 Barbone. And now all works fine again, but the swap of the fn and ctrl keys is away too.
Is it possible, that you can change me this 4.03 File. Is there any possibility. Maybe i can send the EC 4.03 files to you?
    d3lph!c
Well that's explain why they doesn't works. You should told this from the beginning.

  • T440s fn ctrl swap bios bug

    Hi,
I think this was documented before, but I am now experiencing the fn ctrl swap bug when going to sleep.
I have swapped my fn and ctrl keys, and the setting never stays after resuming from deep sleep.
I have updated my bios to the latest version (2.19) but it has not fixed it.
Please advise. I do not want to turn off deep sleep.
    Cheers
    Solved!

Thank you for reporting this.  Yes, I can confirm it is BIOS bug.  We had this same issue on T430 generation and fixed it.  But now it seems T440 generation also suffers from this same bug, needs fix.  So I will report this to BIOS team.  Sorry for this inconvenience.

  • [BIOS Bug] Enabling Fn/Ctrl swap breaks [Ctrl]-[Alt]-[Up]

    Hello all!
I'm very used to the standard keyboard layout, where the ctrl key is on the very left. Therefore I enabled the Swap Fn/Ctrl key option in the BIOS of my Lenovo Edge 11 AMD (2545A12, Bios 1.08).
Unfortunately this has the effect, that a very specific key combination is no longer working: Ctrl+Alt+Up
Ctrl-Alt-Down/Left/Right keep working as ususal. The problem does not happen with disabled key swap option.
This clearly seems to be a bug to me. Any hints on how to receive a fix?
    Thanks & Regards
    - Ben

I doubt this is a software/Linux problem. Same effect here under Fedora 15/Gnome: There this key combination is the essential as the desktop is only vertically oriented.
Can anybody try to assign this key combination in Windows, enable Fn/Ctrl swap and report if he shares the problem there?

  • FN - CTRL swap on ThinkPad T400 / T500 keyboard [SOLVED]

    Hi guys.
I've disassembled T500 firmware and found the place where possible to make a patch for FN-CTRL swap.
Now I need testers. If you are interested, then send me request via email ([email protected]).
Just for your information: I've already made such a BIOS mod for the following Lenovo laptops:
    IdeaPad Y550: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/FN-CTRL-swap-on-Lenovo-Y550-keyboard-SOLV...
    IdeaPad Y450: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/FN-CTRL-swap-on-Lenovo-Y450-keyboard-SOLV...

It wasn't so easy to make CTRL-FN patch for ThinkPads as for IdeaPad laptops. But after three weeks of hard work I place here the final versions for the following ThinkPads:
    R400, T400
    R500
    T400s
    T500, W500
    W700, W700ds
    X61, X61s
You can download these and other CTRL-FN BIOS mods in my topic at notebookreview.com. Also you can post your requests on CTRL-FN BIOS modifications there (http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=474396).

  • G serie fn and ctrl swap

    Hello,
I just got a g560 with an intel i5-450m cpu, 320 gb hard drive, and 4gb ram.
I got this laptop for 599 off newegg and i'm loving it. However, what really irks
me is the placement of the fn and ctrl keys. Because I am a desktop user, I
am used to the ctrl key in the corner. I checked online in places and heard that
lenovo had a fn and ctrl swapping feature thingy in the bios but when I pressed
f2 as it was starting up, I don't see the function or the keyboard section. Is it
possible to swap the fn and ctrl keys for this laptop?
    Please let me know soon
    and thanx in advance.
edit : subject edited for common issue.

    hey,
    thanx for the info.
however, as i checked the drivers and updates from
the lenovo driver download place, I saw that there was
    a bios update.
    http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/ot/en/DriversDownLoads/APR_Driver_List.aspx?CategoryID=67873&OS=Wi...
my bios version is lenovo 29cn24ww v(1.07)
and my smbios version is 2.6
Please take a look and see if this is actually an upgrade
or if it is actually a downgrade. I just want to make sure
cuz I heard a lot of people saying that after they do a bios
update, their comp freezes up and won't boot up.       O.O
    Thanx in advance.  xD

  • [E440] Fn / Ctrl swap problem.

I set Fn / Ctrl swap in BIOS.
    It seemed to work well.
But Ctrl (actually Fn key) + S doesn't work in notepad, ms word, excel, powerpoint ant etc.
    I can't save any files.
I think this is a critical bug.
    Please check this out.

The E540 has the same problem... And it's not a problem only in office type of work. It's a problem in the games...
Try crouching and pres back walk key (CTRL+S)... well the game locks... because it emulates SysRQ... So you can't do a proper office work and you can't play games...
For office type of work only, you can get used to the swapped keys, but sometimes you have to chill out with a game, and then the real pain begins...
The topic is discussed here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Thinkpad-E540-Bios-update-2-09-Ctrl-and-Fn-swap-...
For now you have to downgrade to 2.09 and stick with it. And pray to Lenovo, to push an update, who will fix this.
The integrated shortcust must be there, but they have to be swapped with the ctrl/FN key swapping. Or they should leave an option to disable them.

  • Does U150 have Fn/Ctrl swapping?

Hi, I just saw the new model U150 on your website. I've been waiting for its arraival. Does it have the Fn/Ctrl key swapping option mentioned here?
I didn't wait for new OS or EE features to buy laptops. But I'd wait for the key swapping option. I consider it a major breakthrough of user experience. Sorry for sounding sarcasm. Mean no harm.
    Thanks!

There's no Fn/CTRL swapping, at least with the current BIOS.

  • Need more detail description on BIOS voltage

I am using DKA790GX Platinum with AMD X4 940, and I did some Overclocking and now I need more detail on those BIOS Voltage setting:
    CPU VDD Voltage?
    CPU-NB VDD?
    CPU Voltage?
    CPU-NB Voltage?
    DRAM Voltage?
    NB Voltage?
    HT Link Voltage?
    MCT Voltage?
    Also,
What is the difference between CPU Ratio and CPU-NB Ratio?
    LaraCroft
    DKA790GX PlatinumMS-7550/AMD X4 940 Black Edition/AMI A7550AMS v1.6/3.3Ghz(200x16.5)/CPU Voltage 1.4V/2xCorsairCM2X2048-8500C5D 2048MB 1066MHZ(5-5-5-15)/ZALMAN ZM850-HP/NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280/ST31000528AS(1000 GB)/XP Professional 5.01.2600 Service Pack 3

I'm not familiar with what MCP or MCT voltage is, but I think it's an nvidea thing.
    here's a few tips that I've found on oc'ing the 790gx platinum:
    Disable Cool & Quiet & C1E.
    Disable Spread Spectrum.
Enable HPET.  (High Precision Event Timer)
Don't enable the OC option for the onboard graphics. (Should'nt be a problem for your system, since your have an Nvidea GFX card)
I seem to get better results with ACC Disabled, but others have reported some benefit from it set to auto or in the + range.
You may find that bumping up the CPU-NB voltage a little bit may help, but it's dependant on cpu voltage too.
Keep your NB and HT speeds close to stock by reducing their multipliers as needed, OC'ing them won't give you any better performance and it can cause a lot of uneeded problems.
As you start to OC your system, only increase voltages as you neeed to, otherwise leave them on auto or at their recommended settings.
Be sure you start with a completely stable system, Memtest & Prime 95 are your friends (see stickies)! and check your system stability as you go.
Watch your system temperatures, and know the recommended temperature limits for your components. (processor, northbridge, gfx card, etc.
    Good luck and have fun!
