Need help adding songs to different ipod

my aunt gave me her ipod to put songs onto it for her, and her niece put songs on it too from her computer. i have the same kind of ipod as my aunt, but when i plug my aunts ipod into my computer, it says..
An ipod has been detected, but the ipod software is not installed. please install the ipod software from the cd that came with your ipod or download the ipod software updater from www.apple.com/ipod/download
so i went into my list of ipod update software that i have on my computer, and i tried all of them but none of them worked for the ipod.
i'm so confused and i just want to get this done so can someone help me please?
thank you!

Whose itunes account did you use to buy the music, yours or his? If you used your account, first disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected under preferences in itunes. Then on the info tab, select "manually manage music". Connect your ipod, do not sync, see if you can drag the music to your ipod. When you get to your computer, again disable auto sync, connect your ipod, go up to file, select transfer purchases made on this ipod to this computer. Your new purchases should transfer to your computer.

  • Need help syncing songs currently on ipod to a library on a new computer???

My hard drive crashed on my old computer so there is no back up. I had to download itunes on my new one and start over. I rec'd a message saying I can only use one library and need to clear and sync or do something else. I closed the message and cannot get it back again. My ipod will not sync at all not or tranfer music either way. What can I do? Help!!!!!

I am not sure that I have understood exactly where you have got to, but your post emphasises the need to backup your music.
It is possible to recover music from your iPod provided you have not already allowed your iPod to sync with the empty library on your new computer, see this Zevoneer post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4446066&#4446066
However I get the impression that you may already have allowed your iPod to sync, in which case it will have deleted you music from your iPod. Does your iPod still have your music on it or not?
If you muisc is still on your iPod use the Zevoneer post.
If your music has gone and you do not have another backup, your only hope is to try to recover your files from the iPod using undelete software:
Here is an example which is not free:

  • HOW TO?: Need help setting up 3 different iCloud accounts for my kids (so each has own iMessanger)using same Apple ID (mine) ....they don't have their own separate email addresses to work from...how do I do this?

Need help setting up 3 different iCloud accounts for my kids (so each has own iMessanger)using same Apple ID (mine) ....they don't have their own separate email addresses to work from...how do I do this?

Any devices connected to the same icloud account can sync all the data on that account.  For this reason an icloud account is really for a single user.
On a mac, if each user has their own account, then the itunes for that mac account should be set up to connect to that user's icloud account (System preferences>icloud).

  • Need help adding schedule to xcode 4

I need help adding a tour schedule for an iphone app building an app for 13 djs and they want thier tour schedules added these need to be updated monthly is there a way to add this????

I don't know if this is the easiest way but it works for me. I connect the DVD player to my camcorder (so it's the 3 plugs yellow/red/white on one end and a single jack into the camera). Then I connect my camcorder to the computer (I think it's through a firewire port). Then I just play the DVD and the footage is digitized via the camcorder and I import it into iMovie 4 as it's playing. I believe the camcorder is just in VCR mode.
I have also used this method to transfer VHS tapes onto DVDs via the camera by connecting the VCR to the camera.
I haven't had much luck with movies over about 40 minutes on iMovie. But if it's home movies, there may be a logical break. Do maybe 20 minute segments (it's also really easy on iMovie to add a soundtrack if these are OLD films with no sound.
As you can see, I'm low tech!
    Good luck!

  • Need help on my 40 gigabyte ipod photo and possible deletion of songs

    Hi...
I may have to reinstall all of my windows xp system software due to a potential virus. I currently cannot get to my desktop and therefore online. So, here's the dilemma...if I have to redo my harddrive, I will lose itunes, and wipe out all of the songs I have on it, (about 9000 or so) and I do not have them backed up and currently can't access the program to back them up. So, if I lose the itunes memory from my desktop, but still have my whole library on my actual ipod, is there a way to reinstall my songs from my ipod to itunes, when I restore everything on my desktop? Thanks....help fast!!!

"is there a way to reinstall my songs from my ipod to itunes, when I restore everything on my desktop?"
Salvation is at hand. : )
    Check out the instructions/suggestions here.
    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method I've seen posted. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer.

  • I DESPERATLY NEED HELP TRANSFERING SONGS FROM IPOD TO ITUNES LIBRARY

hi my computer crashed downstairs and i need help moving all my songs from my ipod to my itunes library, on the other computer...will someone please help me?

    Hello Markatkis,
Make sure your not connecting it to more than one PC. A new iPOd is set to "Auto Update" by default. With this setting all you do is plug the iPOd into the PC and iTUnes automaticly opens, loads all the songs it has listed in iTunes to the iPod, and after its done, ejects the iPOd.
If you connect it to another PC tho with iTUnes on it you usually get a promtp that in short says "iPOd library linked to another PC, do you want to link to this one" if you click yes, it wipes the iPOd clean and loads only whats on that PC.
Since your new to all of this a great place for you may be the "iPod 101" site. It will show you all the bacis ropes of using your iPOd, using iTUnes, and using them both together. http://www.apple.com/support/ipod101/

  • Replaced hard drive: need helping getting songs off ipod to itunes

I recently had to send my computer into apple for repair, needless to say they had to replace my hard drive so i lost all of my music. However it is still on my ipod, so i was wondering if there is a way to transfer it from my ipod to my computer

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod.
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac & Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • I bought a new computer and I need to transfer songs from my iPod to my itunes account, but it does not transfer songs that were on CDs; how do i transfer them?

I have an iPod nano and an iTouch.  I used to buy songs off of my iTunes account on my iTouch, and would sync them onto my computer.  I would then sync the songs on my computer onto my iPod.  However, i got a new computer which complicates things.  I thought that I would not have to save all my songs onto a thumbdrive on my old computer, because i would be using the same iTunes account; I thought iTunes would be able to pull up all my songs on my account onto the new computer.  This was not the case.  I signed into iTunes with my account (the account is the same for iPod, iTouch, old computer), but it gave me a blank library.  I then tried "transfering" my songs from my iPod onto my new computer, but it only pulled up about ten songs; most of the songs on my iPod were either from CDs or purchases on my iTouch.  I need help on how to get my songs from my iPod or iTouch onto my new computer!! Any help would be great!!

  • ..I Need Help Putting Music On My iPod..

ok.. For Some Reason.. All Of A Sudden When I Connect My iPod To My Computer To Put Songs On It.. A Message Comes Up Sayin..
"Songs On The iPod "my name iPod" Cannot Be Synced Because All Of The Playlists For Syncing No Longer Exist"..
I Have NOOOO Idea What That Means But Its Took All The Songs Off My iPod.. But There Still On iTunes But Wont Go On The iPod Cussa That Reason ^^..
    Help Please

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod and then the playlist it has been updating from is deleted. Most people use this setting when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library. If your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod, iTunes by default makes a new playlist called something along the lines of "Owner's iPod". If you for any reason delete it, you will not be able to sync your iPod.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -iPod to make it the first playlist in Sources. You can make this a normal playlist and drag whatever you want to it or you can make it a random Smart playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano). Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection

  • I have added songs to my ipod touch, but it doesn't seem to be updating. does anyone know why that is?

Yesterday i added songs to the "cloud" well when i enabled it on my ipod touch, it deleted everything i currently had on my ipod. So i restored my ipod, and dragged everything i currently had on my itunes library to my iPod, i have waited a day and there are still a lot of songs that need to be synced on my ipod. i unplugged my iPod, restarted my computer the next day, and those same songs are still not syncing to my iPod. any ideas why this is?
