Need help after hard drive crash

My hard drive crashed recently and I was unaware that the iPod would not synch music that I added to it from my personal CD's. Because I added a lot of music this way (and only about 80 songs from iTunes) I am hoping there is a way to move these songs to my new computer/iTunes.
I looked at support here on apple.com and I could only find instructions on how to move the songs if I had my old computer working. I need instructions on how to move songs directly from my iPod to my new computer with out having to access my old iTunes/hard drive.
I already authorized my new version of iTunes to accept the previously purchased music and it successfully synched them to my new computer.
In going through the steps that I was able to on the support site it said to consolidate music to the iTunes folder. I was afraid to do this b/c it seemed as though it would only do this with the music that is currently on iTunes (which is only the previously purchased music I mentioned above).
Please excuse the rambling post but I am in need of some assistance and figured that this was the best place to find it!
Thanks in advance. P.S. I have Windows Vista (it's not an option in the OS dropdown below yet).
George

  • How do I unactivate after hard drive crash?

Just purchased an upgrade to CS6 Photoshop from CS3 Photoshop but hard drive crashed before I could uninstall it. How do I deactivate after hard drive crash? Do I need to or can I just load my full CS3 copy and then upgrade it to my new CS6?

You can just install CS6 directly.  You will be prompted to enter your qualifying serial number from CS3 during the install process.

  • After hard drive crash I needed to authorise my pc again. itunes tells me iphone cannot sync as pc not authorised. when I try to authorise the pc, itunes tells me pc is already authorised... what can i do?

After a recent hard drive crash I needed to authorise my pc again. I first de-authorised all previous computers (there was no other option)
Then I authorised the pc with the new hard drive.
    then I tried to sync
Then itunes tells me iphone cannot sync as pc not authorised.
when I try to authorise the pc, itunes tells me pc is already authorised...
I have been playing this game 10 times now ... "cannot sync because pc not authorised" and then "cannot authorise as already authorised"
    what can i do?
    thanks

yes, a few times. the number of authorised computers decreases and increases from zero to one and vice versa accordingly. yet I am still being told that it cannot sync.

  • Deactivation of product after hard drive crashes

My hard drive crashed and I didn't have a chance to de-activate my Adobe photoshop Elements2.0
after installing a new hard drive, installing windows 8.1, I began to re-install the software. I installed
Photoshop2.0, upon installations I opened the software and proceeded to register it with the company.
It told me that it was already registered, do I need to de-activate this serial number? if so how do I do
this? How can I keep this software working as a valid part of my photo editing?
    Thank you. dan

  • Recovering backed up iPhoto contents after hard drive crash

Our hard drive crashed two weeks ago, but we had used apple's Backup program, to back up everything on our external hard drive. Now we have the new hard drive installed, and I tried to recover our iPhoto library. When I opened up iPhoto for the first time, it said that I needed to upgrade, so I did. Now, I can see all of my original albums listed, but when all that appears in the right window is a square with a dotted line along it. When I double click that frame, I get a black box with an exclamation point in in.
In trying to restore things, I dragged the folders from my house icon on the external hard drive, into the new house icon. For example, I dragged our Pictures file into the new house icon, and apparently replaced the one that was there.
Please help. It will be tragic if we can't recover our photos.

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Unable to activate my previously working CS6 suite after hard drive crash

I had a recent hard drive crash, obviously with no chance to deactivate CS6. So now with a fresh installation, I cannot activate the suite.
Is there a way to deactivate the key registered to my previous PC installation?

To deactivate an inaccessible installation you need to contact Adobe Support thru chat and ask them to reset your activations.
For the link below click the Still Need Help? option in the blue area at the bottom and choose the chat option...

  • How to disable audible account after hard drive crash

I have had 2 computer hard drive crashes that were authorized iTunes accounts.  Since they crashed, I don't know how to de-authorize them. What happens after all 5 of my authorized account computers crash?  I can no longer listen to music purchased through iTunes?
I hope there is a way to de-authorize a computer that crashed.  Can anyone help!

I believe this might of worked after all. I did like you said and double clicked on the My Catalog file. PSA and it just put in the timeline and dates on the pictures but had a ? mark and no picture. I then chose to dowload files from the My pictures folder that the downloader was directed to for each download. It seems to restoring the photo's and putting them with the tags and all. I am so relieved because I had 37,500 pictures that would of been untagged and out of order. I learned my lesson to do a backup more frequently! Thanks for your help. If I would want to update to PSE 9 is it compatible with windows XP?

  • Can't transfer purchases after hard drive crash

My hard drive crashed and it took my library with it.  When I try to sync my iPad2 I get the message that I need to transfer purchases from the iPad to the PC.  I do that, but it gets stuck on step 4, the wheel keeps spinning but goes no further.  I've seen this question asked here in the past, but don't see any answers.
Anyone know how to fix this?  Any word from Apple?

An hour is way to long to be on that step. I have seen it take 5 or 6 minutes on my Mac and thought that was an eternity.
Are you using Windows? I'm thing maybe a fresh install of iTunes might help and my other thought is that your backup is corrupt.
I just found this in another discussion if you are running Windows.
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right Click "Command Prompt" -> "Run as Administrator"
    3. In the command prompt type "netsh winsock reset" and hit ENTER.
    4. Reboot your machine.
    5. Restart iTunes
i know this only works on windows but it may help those that have this issue on a PC.

  • Syncing iPhone with Outlook 2007 after hard drive crash.

I recently had a hard drive crash.  We were able to retrieve the .pst files for Outlook 2007 and I sync my iPhone with Outlook for contacts, calendar and such for business.  The iPhone of course, was not affected.  I downloaded iTunes on the new hard drive, and backed up the phone.  (I sync music and apps on my husband's laptop.)
Now, in trying to sync, though, I get a lot of nebulous messages that really don't explain what the outcome will be.
    Box says:
The information on the iPhone "Susan's iPhone" is synced with another user account.  Do you want to sync this iPhone with the information from this user account instead?
(Choices:  "Merge Info mergest th einformation on this iPhone with the information from this user account.  OR "Replace Info" replaces the information on this iPhone with the information from this user account.  )
My best guess would be 'Merge info" but then, will I end up with double everything?  I have many hundreds of contacts and years of calendars.
It seems with Apple I'm always cleaning up one mess after another.  Today when installing iTunes, it corrupted my Outlook and I had to repair Outlook. So it would be a nightmare to have double of everything on my phone and on my computer.
Does anyone have a clue as to what to expect?

On a PC with Windows or with Paralels iTunes 8.2 has an option for Outlook which works with Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 (if it works - see my post on a case where it doesn't ...)

  • Replacing library after hard drive crash

My hard drive crashed and I had no back up. I'm trying to create a new library on my iPod. I can download songs into a new library in iTunes but it won't let met download it to my iPod. The old library remains on my iPod and can only be played on the iPod not in iTunes (the library is grayed out in iTunes). How do I delete the old library off the iPod and then download the new library onto the iPod without losing everything?

WHen you connect the ipod are you getting any messages? Usually in these cases you get a message and need to hit NO because if you hit YES it wipes the ipod clean.
Or are you connecting the ipod while holding shift and ctrl keys?

  • Sync files to computer from iPod after hard drive crash

My main hard drive crashed that had all of my music. I'm guessing only a few sectors failed since I was able to recover 95% of my music library but all of my songs had since been transferred to my 64gb gen 5 iPod touch. So now I want to pull all of my music off of my iPod and compare it to the songs I was able to recover (I have already added the recovered songs to itunes).
My problem is that when I sync my iPod I don't see any music at all. When I first connect the iPod it doesn't even show any audio files on the device but when I backup the device it shows the correct size amount for the files (24.88gb). Even though the bar at the bottoms shows that I have 24.88gb of audio files nothing is shown when I click on Music under my device. *** is going on here. I refuse to believe that I can't get the songs FROM my iPod.
Any help here would be much appreciated

  • Any way to get music from ipod back into library after hard drive crash?

I just survived and am recovering from a hard drive crash. For some reason, on my backup, I only retained about 500 of my 2500 songs in my library. All of my music is intact on the ipod however. Is there any way at all to resolve this issue and get the music from the ipod into the libary, or in the alternative, any way to back up the stuff on the ipod? Thanks.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible - Windows version only)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.
