Need Help Applying Gradient to JPEG

I'm trying to modify my companies logo for our new catalog by applying a gradient to it. I've tried to do this in both Illustrator CS4 and Photoshop CS4 and for some reason I can't get the gradient to apply only to the logo. Instead, it applies the gradient to the background. The logo is saved as a JPEG, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I agree to a point, Bart, but John is absolutely right when he cautions about logos being printed with all sorts of processes. Some companies have an outline form of their logo for black and white (copier and printer) reproduction, but most make do with only one logo that can be reproduced faithfully using virtually any method (Coke).
As a rule, gradients are avoided, but not always. The UPS color logo is a good example of a gradient, or blend, being used successfully. However, on the UPS forms, they use an outline version.
I have no idea what the OP is planning to do with the company's logo. Adding a gradient isn't necessarily always wrong, but it has to be carefully considered. I also wonder if this alteration of the logo is a permanent change, since it's normally considered bad form to tweak a logo if you don't intend to carry the new design forward on all other printed materials.

FW CS4 need help with gradients & png files

Relatively new to FW CS4. I have a png file for use in a PV7 css based site. Read the docs and still can't figure this out. The png file is a base image with 3 color sections. I need to change these three original individual sections to a new color scheme...I can use a regular fill...but I would like to keep the slight fading effect of the original pngs. In addition...the png's are obviously in png format..but if I export as jpg will I loose the gradient fill/opacity effect in a jpg file ?
Original png...want to change to light blue tones: Note the fading to the right side of the outside columns.
If not...how do I change the color scheme in each section of the original png ? Or do I export as is and modify the resulting jpg's ?
If I use a gradient fill or paint bucket...the effect just overlays the original gold type color...giving me a new color all together with the original background still partially showing through underneath the new color change ?
If I delete the gold tones in the png image...then I can't fill the empty space with any other color...nothing works. I've also tried color find/replace
but with no results or changes.
Second problem is when I do apply gradient fills to this png...or jpg...the fill seems to me to be from top to bottom of the section ? I need the fill to move from left to right as above ? Any ideas here also ??
I posted on the PV7 FW group but it's not that active and was more confused by the answers ?

After following Lorains' gradient link, when you have the first box tweaked to your liking and you need it replicated to the remaining two boxes (without having to go through the process again)
1. Select the box that has the new Gradient, then Edit > Copy (or Ctrl/Command + C)
Then select the remaining two boxes that need the new gradient style, then Edit > Paste Attributes
This process with carry over (copy/paste attributes) the first box to the others.

2. Select the box that has the new Gradient changes, then in the Property Inspector (PI), to the far right, tick the small icon under to create a New (Object) Style. Once created, open the Window > Styles Panel. Select the two remaining boxes on the canvas then click the New Style icon in the Styles Panel to apply.
1. is memory resident/temporary and will be lost when you later utilize the Copy command. But 2 has more 'staying' power and you can reuse it, go back to it, save it to disk, and tweak it further to create new ones at any time.
If you absolutely have to keep the final result as a .jpg, then turn off the Canvas color. Open the Window > Optimize Panel, set the output to jpg, BUT set the MATTE color to the color that matches the background of your page.
Otherwise, output to .png8/png32 with Transparency .

Need help with Gradient Mesh

So I am trying to make a gradient mesh of the shape shown here...
But when I apply gradient mesh to it, I get a very unworkable result (as shown below) ...any suggestions on how I can make this?

This is a rectangle converted to a 2-row, 2-column gradient mesh and reshaped. Only nine points to deal with.

What part do you have trouble with? the recreation of the gradient, or how it affects the image?
In the gradient map editor, you can double-click on the bottom markers (called gradients stops) to change their color, and drag them around to re-create what you see... Click between two markers to add one, drag a gradient stop down to remove it.
In fact, you do not need the fourth gradient stop, the white one on the right side.
The top markers control the transparency (in regular gradients, gradient maps are unaffected)
With such a gradient map, the dark areas of the image will be white, neutrals will be black and light areas will be white.

Need help applying formatting in GREP search

I'm trying to work out how I can apply character formatting to a specific character within a pattern rather than applying the character style to the whole pattern.
I can create a search which returns the text string that contains the particular character I want to format, but I want to apply a character style to a single character within that string. For instance:
The text I am searching for might be 7b9. I want to be able to apply a character style to just the "b" and not the 7 or 9. Obviously I can't apply the formatting to all instances of "b"...
Is that possible?

Need help with Gradient Orientation being locked.

I'm having a problem with my gradients not rotating with the object its applied to. Lets say I have a square that blends from red to blue left to right, as i rotate the box the gradient is locked in one position as the box changes angles. I need the gradient to also rotate with the box. What is causing this. It happens off and on and can not pinpoint why or how to fix it.

I've only had this happen, when using the live gradient annotator tool and the panel still being active after that. Seems like AI then misinterprets things and assumes the user is still aligning the gradient. Usually it is enough to just pick another tool...

Bluetooth issues. Found solution thread. Need help applying it.

Arch can't find my bluetooth controller, as documented in my last post about it here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=174694 (That was 3 weeks ago, so I'm making a new post now.) Basically, I have the hardware (Bluetooth works in other OSs), but Arch has no idea.

* How can I find out the specifics about what hardware I have?
* And how do I interpret the output of usb-devices, below? The AskUbuntu thread says a couple of times "here's a key line", but I don't know how to recognize the key lines in my own outputs.
* How similar is my setup to the one on the AskUbuntu thread? Can I apply the solutions there to my own machine?
* That post is a year old. Has the patch the answerer mentioned been implemented into the linux kernel yet? (And am I be using a version of the kernel with that patch?)
* I'm not really excited about patching and compiling a kernel myself. Is there another way?

Outputs for rfkill, hci*, and bluetoothctl are on the old post linked at the top of this post, but they give no relevant output (except "What you're talking about doesn't exist"). The bluetooth daemon is running, and I have all necessary packages installed (as shown at the end of the older post).

I may answer a bit late here but someone managed to help me on IRC while I was having the exact same problem. I don't think that it's needed to patch your Kernel since Arch provides the very last updated. The problem has gone from my side installing the `bluez-hid2hci` package then rebooting the computer. Hoping it can help you!

Noob needs help with gradient

I am having troubles duplicating this image. As you can see ( if I link to it correctly) this little green box (there are three across the top "service specials" for example) is lighter in the middle and darker on the top and bottom. I am tryng to make a new one but am struggling as 'gradient' only seems to go from 'dark to light' but not 'dark to light to dark again'
Any help please? And please keep it realy simple or give directions in detail.

When you have the Gradient Tool selected, look at the Options bar at the top of your screen. There's a group of 5 buttons that will produce different types of gradients.
Experiment with those, and experiment with your start and stop points when you click and drag with the gradient tool in your document area.

Need help with hyperlink for jpeg

I sound like a noob.. but i have a single jpeg with different images on it... and i want to create a hyperlink for specific areas that you point to and not the entire jpeg.... i just can't seem to figure out how to do this, any help would be greatly appreciated

Need help applying Schema to doc

I am trying to validate a xml document using a schema. I can avoid having to put the "schemaLocation" attribute in the doc to be validated by creating a XSDBuilder object. However, i can't figure out how to avoid having to put the xmlns attribute in the root element of the document:

If the targetNamespace in the schema can't be found in the root element of the doucment, the document will fail the validation.
Is there anyway to apply a schema to an xml doc without having the xmlns attribute in the root element.

Keep the first parameter of "" or you can even use this in your java code
dp.setXMLSchema(xsdbuild.build("","C:\xmlschema\sample\catalogue.xsd)); assuming that your xsd file is in that location.
In the xsd file keep your root tag like this
<schema targetNamespace="">
</schema>

Make the sreen shot with the OS, not with a camera.
Show in detail what your problem is.
Tell us: OS, version, what have you done, file type, etc.
As it is now we can't see anything important.

Need help to create report with jpeg/gif image

Hello,
I need help with creating a form with a special jpeg/gif seal. I never done this Java. Until now, I created all forms with ansi C++ with HP escape characters to draw lines, boxs, and text. This form will contain boxes which is populated with database information read from a text file.
Since this form contains a special seal on the upper right, I don't think it can be done with old fashion ansi C++. How can I create a form with Java and create it as a simple exe to just print the form to a specified printer.

I am creating a form with boxes (lines and text). What is special about this form is that it has an image jpeg or gif at the top right corner. Is is a state department seal. Up to this form, I had used ansi C++ and print out escape HP character to print out the lines, boxes, and text. I have no idea how to print out the image. I am new to JAVA and only 1 class in it. Is there sample code out there to create this type of form with the image? I need a starting point.

So where is LR trying to copy the files? Check your destination in the Import panel at the right.

Before you sync your iPhone make sure that all the music that was synced to your phonereviously has been copied to your iTunes on the new MacBook Pro. Then when you connect your phone you will be able to either sync all music or select only those playlists that you want on the phone.
