Need help attaching music files to PowerPoint presentation

Hi. I've reached my frustration limit. I'm not even sure what quetion to ask. I'm trying to put together a .ppt slide show for my daughter's graduation... setting pictures to music. In order to do this, I must make the music files accessible from my hard drive. I purchased several ITunes but they came as MP4 files, which my computer can't play. I burned a CD, which plays... ripped the CD to the hard drive (and those files play), but .ppt won't recognize them.
Is this a copyright issue? If so, is there a work-around? I'm not doing anything illegal... I just want to use them from one location, but that one location must be from my hard drive... not on a CD and not in an MP3 player.
Please help. I'm just about frantic!
Thanks SO much!
PS: Is there a better option for me than ITunes? I'm guessing Limewire is illegal. Are there sites where I can purchase music to burn to my hard drive?
Dell xps   Windows XP Pro

Hi! Thanks for your reply. The answers are:
What are your settings for Disc Format in the
iTunes Edit menu > Preferences >
Advanced tab > Burning sub-tab?
1. AUDIO CD
And what are your settings for Import Using in
the iTunes Edit menu > Preferences >
Advanced tab > Importing sub-tab?
2. AAC ENCODER
Since I posted, I've moved the files around that I ripped, and they work in some locations and not others. Interesting... Can't make heads or tails of it. Just got off the phone for an hour with Dell who couldn't figure it out either.
Seems that if I burn them to a CD, rip the files from the CD to the hard drive and then guess the right location to file them, it will work (at least intermittently).
Thoughts?
I purchased several ITunes but they came as MP4
files, which my computer can't play. I burned a CD,
which plays... ripped the CD to the hard drive (and
those files play), but .ppt won't recognize them.
Two questions for you, crtriage:
What are your settings for Disc Format in the
iTunes Edit menu > Preferences >
Advanced tab > Burning sub-tab?
And what are your settings for Import Using in
the iTunes Edit menu > Preferences >
Advanced tab > Importing sub-tab?

  • NEWBIE: Need Help Sending Music Files

Everytime I try to send even a small music file (300 KB)... I get a "Message content exceeds size limit"
Do I need to change my settings someplace?
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    MJ

Unfortunately Patsfan, You cannot do anything to change this setting!
This is a limitation that was set by your phone services provider network!
MMS message are to only be allow to be sent over their network if the size is "LESS" than 300kb, you might be able to get away with "300kb exactly" but still it has to be within that size!
If you notice when you are in video mode on your phone and go to options it gives you two "video formats" to choose from
    1 = normal mode
    2 = mms mode
If you choose the first mode, you can record videos for as long as you want, granted you have a memory card that has the available space. But you most likely wont be able to send those videos using mms because they probably have gone over the 300kb size limitation for sending via MMS.
If you choose the second mode, the videos that you record will stop at about 40-50 seconds or before the video size goes over 300kb.  And thats just the way it is.  This mode assures that all your videos will be under 300kb, and in a format that can be sent by mms GUARUNTEED.
The only work around for this are mainly two things:
1 - Send the video by email and not MMS.
    or
2 - find some third party software that will allow you to work around these size limitations.
Sorry I dont know any off hand.
But I hope this helps out!

  • Need help transferring Music Files & Playlist from Mac Book to iMAC

I am having difficulty transferring my music files and playlists from my Macbook to my iMAC. All of the music goes over well but the playlists, comments and ratings do not. Any assistance in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Copy the entire \Music\iTunes\ folder from your MacBook to your iMac.
The link posted by WoggleDog deals only with moving the iTunes music folder on one computer to a different location to use on that same computer.

  • Need Help With Music File

I just got my ipod shuffle and i had all my music stored in- my documents/my music folder and i installed itunes and all that with the cd it came with. and it inported all my mp3 files. but i had a bunch of windows media files. i found a mp3 encoder and made them all mp3 for my ipod. but in itunes they dont show up. and any new songs i download dont show up only the ones that loaded when i installed it. how do i get my music on the library? do i have 2 move my music somewhere. srry im new 2 this thx for ur help

    Hi there.
Any music you download with iTunes is automatically added to your library, so I'm not sure what is up with that without more info.
As for the other, when you converted the files outside of iTunes (it could have done it for you with unprotectd WMA files), you then needed to tell iTunes tere is new music.
To do this, choose add to library (add folder?), then navigate to the folder you want to add. Select it and iTunes will add all the new tracks in that folder to your library.
This needs to be done every time you use a program other than iTunes.

    * Need help recovering music on iPod/iTunes *
I bought my iPod 30G when it first came out back in the day. With the protective case it looks like a Walkman, if you know what that is. The new ones are half the thickness of my old skool one. lol!
Anyway, years ago I accidently uploaded a virus in both my PC and laptop. Yeah, real *******. Well, the person who restored my computers couldn't save my music. I still have the iPod but my library on iTunes is gone. If I try to update my iPod in either computer it will erase every song I have on it and only upload the songs/album I'm trying to add. I'm told that this is something Apple did to prevent file sharing, blah, blah, blah...
Does anyone know a way around it? I keep buying CDs just not able to load them into my iPod thru iTunes.

    Hello yourantihero,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple Google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

  • I want to move the location of my iTunes library music files. At present they are all on my time machine . I want to move them all to my imac. Can I do that and keep all my playlists and play counts? Thanks in advance

I want to move the location of my iTunes library music files. At present they are all on my time machine . I want to move them all to my imac. Can I do that and keep all my playlists and play counts? Thanks in advance
its 1000s of songs . Originally I used the time machine as a networked drive but it can cause the songs to pause so I'm thinking it would be better to have the songs on the internal imac drive
how can I move the songs so I can re-open iTunes and the playlists (with plays in the 100s) find the song in the new place?

Do you mean on your Time Machine backup drive? Or are you actually accessing the backup? In either case you shouldn't be doing that. If you haven't space on your HDD to store the iTunes Library, then at least put it on another external drive.
Since you did not provide any information about what's actually "on my time machine," here's what you would do. The entire iTunes folder should be stored in the /Home/Music/ folder. Within that folder you would have three folders: imm Media, iTunes, and iTunes Playlists.

If we set the file name as such, the attachment in the email contains garbled filename
Can you pl let me know how to resolve this?
We should use the file name as attachment name and this will have say special characters. The receiver who gets the mail should get with the correct attachment name
One important point.. the attachments are opened from MS outlook.

Read the FAQ carefully. You don't need to call encodeText unless you're using a really
    old version of JavaMail.
And, it depends on whether the mail reader you're using is handling encoded parameters
according to the (new) MIME standard, or according to the (old) non-standard hack.
Sadly, without knowing what mail reader the recipient is using, it's impossible to use
encoded filenames that will work everywhere.

  • Reinstalled iTunes and need to get music files back on

    Hi Everybody.
Basically, I had to reinstall my iTunes software after my ipod broke and they gave me a new one. I am running iTunes 4 I think, because for some reason it is the only on that wants to work on our computer.
The new iPod is working fine, and so is iTunes, but our music files didn't come back up automatically and I need some advice for getting them back on itunes. I've played with it a bit, but I didn't want to go clicking and dragging a bunch of folders to where they might not belong.
Thanks, if you can offer me any help it will be much appreciated. Sean

However, all signs point to "I erased all my itunes music files."
    Bummer
is there anything else to try or is my music gone?
Do you still have all or most or some of your music on the iPod? If so:
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
iPodRip Software (Free trial: Mac & Windows)
    PodUtil Software (Mac & Windows)
YamiPod Software (Free: Mac & Windows)
    PodPlus Software (Windows)
    TuneJack Software (Windows)
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple & Free Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
    1 - Open iTunes
    2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
5 - Within iTunes: Edit=>Preferences=>’iPod’ tab: switch iPod to manual transfer – click ‘OK’
    6 – Eject iPod
7 – Close iTunes, then reopen iTunes and attach the iPod (it’s in manual sync now)
    8 – File=>Add Folder
9 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod (or the lower ‘\iPod_Control’ sub-folder)
    10 - Click OK
-- The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes with its correct information
–-- This will take some time depending on your PC’s speed and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method.
If you have problems with seeing the iPod within 'My Computer', try again switching your update method to 'manual', detach the iPod, then reconnect the iPod to the PC.
After recovering your Library, strongly consider developing a thorough and frequent backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy:

  • Converting QT to WMV files for PowerPoint presentation on PC

    Hi All,
I have a client on a tight budget who wants to incorporate some talking heads into their Powerpoint presentation on their PC. I did a test with a full resolution Quicktime file but they could not play it.
My plan is to export as a Windows Media Player file but I'm not sure if there are any settings that I should be aware of before I deliver.
I am editing in DV 720 x 480. Can I keep this file size and just export at full quality?
I have both VisualHub and Flip4Mac software.
    Thanks for your help.
    Cheers,
    Chris

Thanks for the reminder on the size, Jim.
quick question. I've done a test using the Flip4Mac preset - One pass VBR, Presentation (high) and the clips play fine of their PC. The client is happy, But, and this is a big but for me.... I can see some green leaking through around the heads. I have worked very hard on the key using the DVGarage plug-in and it's clean on my computer.
Is something happening during the conversion to wmv? The bitrate on the presentation preset is only 80 with a peak bit rate of 160, a far cry from the 1600k cbr that you suggested. I need to deliver today and I'm not sure if I should be experimenting too much at this stage, but, on the other hand, they will be using a projector.
I could really use some advice.
    Cheers,

  • Need Help-SOA 11g File Adapter unable to delete input file and its crashing

    Hi All
    Please find the details below:
    1. We have created a simple SOA composite to Read file from an input directory, archive the file in an archive directory using Inbound File Adapter Read
and then use Outbound File Adapter Write to move the file to a output directory.
    2. File Adapter needs to delete the file after successful read/retrieval.
    3. We are using the "Use Trigger File" for invoking the file adapter. This is a new feature in SOA 11g
    4. Also we are using the option of reading the file as an attachment as we are not doing any transformation in the composite
    Issue Details_
    1. When the trigger file is put in the input directory for the first time, the File Adapter reads the file, archives it and moves it to the output directory
    2. However it does not delete the input file from the input directory and raises Fatal Exception mentioned below:

    Hi,
Using the file adapter, you can poll from multilple locations...
Keep the following property in your .jca file
    <property name="DirectorySeparator" value="," />
While giving the path in File Adapter configuration, keep comma and give the next location....then the file will be picked up from the locations you gave....
    Hope this helps...

  • Need help with moving files?

I now have two challenges.  As a new user I need to know how to copy my iTunes files onto a USB stick.  I am not sure how to find the files, copy them or anything,  the second thing that I need to know is how to remove files from the desktop.  While trying to copy these same music files I clicked at the wrong time and now they are all piled up on the desk top.  There are 1800 files all piled up.  Just want these gone.  Thanks for any help.

While trying to copy these same music files I clicked at the wrong time and now they are all piled up on the desk top.  There are 1800 files all piled up.  Just want these gone.
Click Finder and desktop. Assuming for simplicity that there are only the 1800 files on the desktop that you want to delete them (important that you have saved them somewhere else where you want them) .... click on the first one in the list to highlight it, then move to the last one in the list, hold the shift key and click on it to highlight it. All in between should also now be highlighted. Either drag that group to the trash or right click and choose move to trash. Then empty the trash.
If you want to copy the files on the desktop to the USB stick, follow Niel's instructions above.
On your hard drive, you'll find your itunes library under your user ID / music / itunes

  • Need Help transferring music

My husband has the iPod and I have an iPod mini, he has several songs on his iPod, which when i plug his in shows under his name, but they don't show under the library. i need to know how i can copy the songs from his iPod to mine, when they aren't in the general library? he downloaded the music from a friends computer. HELP!!!

If I am following this correctly have purchased music with two different accounts and want to exchange music between them.
You cant. Even if you could copy them you can not play them. All the music purchased though the ITMS is encrypted and can only be played on Apple's iTunes software or Apple iPods that have been activated by that account.
Basically you are assumed to be a theif by default and are locked out of the music you buy. Then you are only allowed to listen to it under specific circumstances.
You can burn the music to CD and then rip it to MP3 files. Then it is unrestricted, however you end up with lower quality music than you paid for, you lose the cover art, and the music file meta data.
Be aware that the RIPPING from CD method violates the user agreement with Apple. If they find out they can cancel you account.

  • I need help retrieving Microsoft files lost when upgrading to OSX Mavericks

My daughter recently upgraded our Mac to the OSX Mavericks platform. Unfortunately, all of our Microsoft files, etc. are gone! I need to know how I can retrieve these files or if I can. I'm honestly not impressed with this new platform. I need help asap and your help is truly appreciated.

You have to make the backup yourself. That's your only protection against file loss whether accidental or catastrophic. In fact you should have at least two of them - each done differently and on separate drives.
If your files truly were "erased" then you can see if they can be recovered:
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.
    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
         drive being backed up.
    3. Time Machine requires a backup drive that is at least double the
capacity of the drive(s) it backs up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
      1. Cool Drives
      2. OWC
      3. WiebeTech
      4. Firewire Direct
      5. California Drives
      6. NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.

  • 6275i help w/music files n ringtones

Hi, I have the 6275i and I can get music files onto it no prob, but when I listen with my nokia headset, I only hear it in one earphone. I'm unsure about the file conversion stuff, can someone tell me how to fix this?
As well, I've read that Bell doesn't allow the function of turning music files into ringtones, so anyone know a way to do this? THANKS!

With a network branded phone it is possible that certain features might be missing, like the ability to set a music track as ringtone.
My guess it that your phone has a special version of firmware on that was made by your network provider.

  • Help - Moving Music Files to Larger External Hard Drive

Before I lose any files or otherwise ruin my iTunes installation, I need to know the best and safest way to move my iTunes music from my C: drive to my new external drive while still retaining full iTunes functionality while clearing space on my cramped internal drive.
Adding some slight complexity, I also have the Honda TTS (text to speech) software loaded which provides for the functionality of the music link for my iPod in my Honda Accord.
Do I have to reinstall iTunes on the new drive? If so, how do I preserve my music files in the process.

No, it's not necessary to re-install iTunes on the new drive. The following link from MacMuse should help. 2 tips, before doing anything in iTunes, you must boot-up the EHD prior to opening iTunes or iTunes will revert the iTunes music folder location back to the main drive. Next, there are 2 associated database files with iTunes, the .itl & .xml files . These 2 files CAN'T be moved off you system's drive, that is their "home" & they have to stay put. Welcome to discussions!
    EDIT:
I guess I'm getting tired, forgot the link, so sorry!
