Need help Bios screwed!! K8T Neo.

I was trying to fix a problem with my notebook its screwed and I created a CD that self boots and flashes the bios.
Anyway the to cut a long sory short my bios was accidentlally flashed on my K8T NEO FIS2R. and now it wont boot or nothing.
I did have a bios recovery floppy disk ctrl+home but it doesnt work.
Now when I turn on it just reads from the CD drive and hard disk but not the floppy, is it possible to create a CD that will boot and repair the bios??
Please help if you can.

Well I will pipe in with some things here. You want to flash from a RAMDisk setup if at all possible. Windows flashing can be a very large risk if you are not sure everything is shut down. Even recieving a mail or having an autoupdate start while you are flashing can ruin your board and your day. Always shut done boot block protection ahead of time. Set Bios to defaults as this will also keep you out of trouble.
Always, always, always be sure you are using the correct file for your board.
It only takes a second to do something wrong, it may takle a little longer to be sure you are right. Do it wrong and it is RMA time and all the time saved hurrying it along is certainly lost.

  • Need help with my K8T Neo 2, SATA question

    Hi everyone.
Im trying to install a new 500 GB Maxtor SATA drive on my motherboard.
The problem is that Windows Setup is not recognizing my SATA drive. I hit F6 during setup, then S, and I select the Win XP VIA SATA Controller from the floppy I made using the files that came with the CD-ROM from my motherboard. I then go on with the setup, but windows says that no drive could be detected. Ive searched for a fix for hours on the board. I have read references about the VIA Controller and the Promis Controller. From what I understand, there are two seperate connectors for these SATA controllers?
When I look at my motherboard I see two SATA connectors. One on top and one right under it. Are these connectors BOTH part of the VIA controller? And if so, does it matter which one I connect the data cable too?
Or are these connectors different from each other?
Ive also enabled the On-chip SATA IDE Controller in the bios, and I disabled the On-Chip PATA one. The manual says this should enable the VIA controller.
What am I doing wrong?  Please help me. I would like to get this SATA drive working and not have to return it and go get a regular EIDE drive.

Thanks for the fast response. I just realized that I have 4 total connectors. Im using the ones that are for the VIA controller. I just found the ones for Promise. They are located south of the VIA ones and are spaced farther appart.
And I have already set my jumper config for Force 150.
This current config does not work. Windows setup cannot see the drives. Maybe I have the wrong driver?
ensure HDD is detected during post or if you are using Promise ensure its detected and configured from utility.
    then you will need:
    VIA VT8237(R) SATA RAID Driver --> http://download.msi.com.tw/support/dvr_exe/mbd_dvr/VIA_VT8237_SATARAID_Floppy.zip
or if drive are attached to Promise:
    http://download.msi.com.tw/support/dvr_exe/mbd_dvr/378_55.exe
extract files, navigate to "Driver" sub folder, copy all files into folder including sub folder WinXP to diskette.

  • Should I flash the bios? K8T NEO FIS2R

Ok... I have a K8T NEO FIS2R mobo.  A couple of friends of mine have been telling me to flash the bios to the most current version...  Then some other people have been telling me that it is too risky and I should hold off untill something goes wrong that I know a bios flash can fix...
I'm just wondering what is the concencious here... should I flash it, or should I stay with the current version I have now(the one that came with the mobo)  I Like to have my computer as up to date as possible, but all the reports of bad flashes have me a little worried.  This is a procedure that I have never done before, and I dont want to mess it up.
If I should flash, Any insight, tips, tricks, special instructions, etc... would be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks!
    Magnum

Thanks guys for the quick responces...  I'm used to not getting a responce from forums for 12-24hrs and here it is less than 24hrs later and I have 10 responces.
I'm not at my computer in question right now, but I am almost positive that my bios is ver1.0.  Same one that came with my mobo.
At this point I am leaning towards flashing...  If basically the only way to mess it up is to have my power fail, then I dont think I will have a problem.  I'll just borrow an UPS from work here to be on the safe side.
hypothetically if i follow the instructions to a tee(windows flash/live update) are there any other ways it can mess it up?  I just want to get a hold on all the places where I could mess it up.
Will live update take me all the way through the procedure, or do I need a separate set of instructions to read off of during the flash?
Also what gear will I need...  floppy disk? anything else?
Sorry about all the questions, just want to make sure I do this right the first time!
    Thanks!

  • Should I update BIOS for K8T Neo?

I recently rebuilt my system around my old K8T Neo Fis2r.  Just wondering if you guys think its worth my while to update to the last BIOS using Live Update.  I'm running the original BIOS right now.  I figure if it aint broke don't fix it, and I'm not trying to overclock or anything.  Does the most recent BIOS even offer any better overclocking then the original BIOS?  The K8T Neo is not much of an overclocking board anyway.

    dont recommend flashing in windows.
better to do it with a floppy but not from a floppy.
check what the latest bios fixes compared to the one you use now and make your decision after that but if it all works there is no reason to update.

  • Help with K8M / K8T Neo-V

    Please help me!!
I have a Kingston DDR-400 MHz 512MB module, but the BIOS shows only 200 MHz. I tried to change the configurations but only have from 100 MHz to 250 Mhz, normally system have 266, 333 or 400 MHz. I downloaded and flash my BIOS to lastest version, but don't work. Thanks.

You could check Kingstons site or e-mail them a question about it. Google is your freind. However that said practically all memory sticks today are dual bank sticks so it is likely they are as well.
If however you are asking about x2 speed? Well that is what DDR means. Double Data Rate. That reads the front and back side of the clock pulse so a memory clock of 200 gives tou DDR400 as it reads both sides of each pulse.
Run Sisoft Sandra and get a memory Bandwidth. DDR400 also means PC 3200 or a theoretical speed limit of 3200MBP As you will never really reach the theoritcal limits you should get 2400-2800MBPS

  • Need help finding a 875 Neo FIS2R

The tech guys say we don't sell them to the public try e-bay.  Nothing on e-bay.  I've spent the last two hours searching the web for an 875P Neo FIS2R and haven't found more than a review.  I used to think I was good at finding the impossible but not this time.  The Promise chipset on mine is dead.  If I can't find exactly the same board with the same bios version I will lose all of my data.  Not again!  >:( >:(  Anybody know where I can fine one?

  • MSI K8T Neo BIOS

I recently flashed my BIOS via the Live! Update feature to 1.80...
However, both SiSoft Sandra 2004 & Belarc Advisor report BIOS version 1.0 is installed....
Here is the report from Belarc:
    Board: MSI MS-6702 1.0
    Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. Version 07.00T 04/02/01
If i try to run the Live! BIOS update, i am told i have the latest version...
So, my question is what BIOS do i have?  MSI say i have the latest revision, but Sandra & Belarc say i have the first revision.

  • K8T Neo-FIS2R / Kingston KVR400X64C25/256

As a first time poster my apolgies if this has been covered elsewhere - I have read most of the posts on this forum but found no specific reference. Please just point me in the right direction if i am wrong!
I bought the Kingston KVR400X64C25/256 modules because:
    a) they were listed by MSI on the list of tested Ram
    b) they were on Kingston's list for the K8T NEO &
    c) they were in stock. However...
If installed in DIMM 2 & 3 (as per MSI tested RAM pdf) the system crashes on trying to load Windows. DIMM 1 & 2 'works' if that allows for 8 or 9 restarts/day. I  tried 1 & 3 to see if that improved the situation, but if anything it was worse. I have tried increasing the RAM voltage to 2.6 but there is no discernable difference. Upping the TRCD to 4 makes little or no difference.
Memtest86+ initially found no errors (16 hrs/93 passes) but when left running for a week came up with 10 errors (8 in test 6, 2 in test 4). MemTest (http://hcidesign.com/memtest/) gives me an average of 10 errors for 300% pass.
I'm now trying running the memory at 2.7v (within Kingston's ±.25v range).
In the meantime, has anyone run this memory without any problem - i.e. is it a simple case of faulty memory? Equally, has anyone had similar problems and found a solution?
    thanks

hmmm! What if memtest, Prime95 etc. detect no problem over lengthy periods when sticks are individually tested in DIMM1 - as well as the system not crashing once - , but boot failures/memory dumps etc. abound when same sticks are individually placed at 2 or 3? Is this still a memory issue?
For what it's worth I have found Kingston's technical support more than helpful.

  • K8T Neo-F (ver. 2.0) Unknown CPU Problem!

    Hi all,
I've a really big problem with two mainboard K8T NEO-F (MS-6702 VER 2.0). I'm trying to build two pcs with these boards and two AMD Sempron64 2800+ Sock754.
The problem is that when I turn the system on, immediately after all post messages like SATA controller diagnose, Realtek network boot, checking NVRAM, I get this message:
    "Warning unknow CPU type"
    "System halted"
Then I can't even reboot pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL or getting into bios setup pressing DEL. The system is frozen and I can't reboot.
I've tried to flash the bios using the recovery feature (CTRL+HOME and floppy disk with bios inserted), it starts flashing and than when I get those four beeps, I rebooted and I get the "system halted" message again.
I saw that the latest bios for K8T NEO Series is NOT for version 2.0 like these two ones that I've got.
What can I do? Please someone help me...
    Regards,
    Paolo

    Thanks to everyone who replied...
    The mainboard is not K8T Neo-V it's K8T Neo-F v2.0 infact on the PCB it's exactly signed MS-6702 VER 2.0.
I really can't update the bios since I can't even boot up my system. The only way to flash the bios seems to be trying to find the correct bios for this mainboard and flash it through the bios recovery procedure (pressing CTRL+HOME during boot).
Otherwise I've to find some other old CPU that is being supported by this mainboard, but this seems quite incredible to me! In also from my local distributors, new sock754 CPU are just Sempron64 ...
Someone could help me finding a bios update for Sempron64 support for this mainboard?
    Regards,
    Paolo

  • Need help with k8t neo ms-6702 and cpu compatiblility question.

I have a msi k8t neo motherboard socket 754 ms-6702 bios version 2.2 with a athlon 64 2800+ in my computer. I just bought a AMD Athlon 64 3700+ CPU Socket 754 .1MB cache. When i install it, my power goes on and i get no activity. Im wondering if i got a bad cpu off ebay or my bios isnt current enough ( i used msi live updating software and its currently at v 2.2) or does my motherboard not support this high of a cpu? Im not very computer literate.  Thanks for any help and info. If i need to update my bios, i downloaded version 7.1 but i dont know how to flash it, can somone give me the steps

I had a bad experience with a 3700 bought on e bay ,turned out to be an engineering sample ."special m/b bios reqd" in my case I did get a boot and the engineering cmos message. genuine 3700 754's are quite rare and fetch premium prices.

  • K8T Neo-FIS2R - P20378 Sata Controller option missing in BIOS. Cannot disable

A few hairs left....& those are disappearing quickly.......!!!!
I currently have Windows XP PRo running under a Promise SATA Drive. (NO RAID REQUIRED)
In order to allow for a fallback situation (which I am still using swapping between WIN XP & Vista),  I found a 20GB IDE Disk attached it to the standard IDE controller  & did a clean install of  VISTA ULTIMATE on the 20GB Drive...So Far so good.
Next I booted up changed the boot sequence to pickup the 20GB IDE drive first ...Vista Came up....Still so far so good.
Then I found my mouse ...& both USB printers were not recognised.....2 days later I have them all going okay....one problem at a time....
The only issue left ... I cannot see the SATA Drive attached to the promise controller.....I have tried following a few of suggested methods to load the promise drivers that are around......still no luck.  Most of the posts I see are around installing VISTA on a SATA drive...my case is just seeing a SATA drive this not the O/S disk.
Moving on ...no luck with the Promise Drives ...so I have tried changing to the VIA Controller by unplugging the SATA cord from the Promise controller & plugging into the VIA Controller ... I boot up & still no luck...The BIOS picks up the VIA change as I see a option to use  <TAB> to setup  RAID during bootup.. I do not want RAID only a single SATA Drive.  One of the things I read was to turn off Promise  via the BIOS settings . The manual indicates I need to access this by going to the "Onboard PCI Controller option", here I should be able to turn off the P20378 S.ata Controller...
my problem is ...I can see only the Lan Controller as a option to disable/ enable the other options including the P20378 S.ata Controller.. are not visible.. hence I am unable to disable the Promise SATA Controller within the BIOS..... HELP  pretty please.....   I can happily run VISTA but I do not have 150GB visible to me & my current disk space is tight.....I need that 150GB ...........
    signed...frustated NOOB
PS I have the most recent drivers/ bios etc according the MSI's Online S/W synch tool (which I run in XP Pro as the vista version fails.... DOH)
    MB --> K8T NEO FISR2
    Memory 1GB
    Appreciate your help ..... TA

I agree with Hans, as far as we know there are no drivers for Vista to use the Promise controller, yet.
Same old, same old, Vista and no drivers.
You just have to wait and hope there wil be Vista drivers for the Promise controller.
