Need Help Building a Graphic Design/Video Editing PC

Greetings everybody, my name is David, and I'm hoping to get a little assistance building a computer system either from scratch or from a couple of computers I have picked out.
I hope this that doesn't sound unrealistic but I only have around $600 in my budget to build a Graphic Designer machine. My intentions are to get a subscription to Adobe cloud so I would have access to all of Adobe CS6 products. (I won’t be using any of the Touch or Game developers applications.)
I would like to post two links to two machines that I picked out that are in my price range and would like some advice as to whether or not either one of these machines have enough processing power to be able to handle all Adobe CS 6 products.
I am aware that neither one of these machines have a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) and that I would have to purchase one and add it. Which leads me to my first question; are the processors on either one of these machines capable of handling a GPU that is on the Adobe recommended list for processors?
And secondly, if I were to build a machine from scratch, is $600 enough to build a machine that is capable of handling Adobe CS6  products? When building a machine from scratch can you tell me what the minimum requirements are for a motherboard? Or are there any sites that offer specific advise for building PC's for graphic design?
I noticed after looking through the list of recommended graphics processing units that the majority of those are very expensive, in the $500-$3000 range. Can you please recommend a graphics processing unit that is in the $200-$300 range that would be fully adequate to handle Adobe products? Also what things do I need to take into consideration when building the machine from scratch to ensure that all my hardware is capable of handling Adobe CS6 products.
What do I need to add to either one of these prebuilt computers to make them Adobe-ready, If they are in fact worthy at all?
Here are the links for two machines that I have picked out:
http://www.costco.com/HP-Pavilion-p6t-Desktop%2c-Intel%C2%AE-Core%E2%8 4%A2-i3-2130-3.4GHz.product.100010197.html
http://www.costco.com/ZT-Desktop%2c-Intel%C2%AE-Core%E2%84%A2-i5-3470- 3.2GHz.product.100027436.html
I do realize that neither one of these machines have a graphics card in them. Can you tell by looking at the specifications on either one of these machines, whether or not your typical graphics card would fit inside the case If they are indeed worthy in all other respects?
And I realize that I mentioned that I only had $600 to spend, however if either one of these prebuilt machines are powerful enough in all other respects, I don't have an issue waiting a month or two before buying the graphics card and installing a little bit later.
Thank you in advance for your input.
Sincerely,
David

Your HP Costco link results in an out of stock message
Your ZT Costco link is very likely NOT expandable due to the VERY small power supply... so you will likely NOT be able to add a video card later
For PPro video editing you want an nVidia graphics adapter http://www.pacifier.com/~jtsmith/GPU.HTM and even the low power nVidia may be too much for that computer
Also, for video editing, you need a MINIMUM of 2 hard drives... and trying to edit HiDef video with an i5 will be a study of waiting for things to happen
As Harm said... a $600 computer will work for everything EXCEPT video editing
This DIY list is just about twice your budget, but it will work for video editing

  • Need help setting up the ultimate video editing system!

    Hi,
I own a cinematic wedding film business. We have pretty significant client traffic, about 40 wedding films per year and still growing. We've decided to switch our post production studio from FCP to Premiere. We've also decided to start from scratch and invest in all new equipment for this switch. We are an apple based facility and will stay that way. We don't really have money/budget limitations. We don't allow budget to to bottle neck our company's efficiency or productivity. We want this editng system's speed, efficiency, and reliability to be priority #1!
    On to my questions....
    1. We will be purchasing a new mac pro as the primary editing station. What is the fastest, most efficient, and most reliable setup for running the entire adobe creative suite on a Mac pro? Or maybe another way of asking....what is the ultimate Mac pro setup for Adobe CS, and why?
    2. I would like to go with an external raid system for all our projects. (We'll use the internal drives primarily for running applications only.) For the external raid, we'll need about 9-12TB of usable space. We need this system to be extremely reliable. What is the fastest connection for achieving the fastest read & write transfer rates between the raid system and the computer (esata, scsi, etc)? Also, what raid systems do you recommend that will meet our needs and why?
    3. I would like to make a backup of all current projects twice a week to a seperate hard drive. My business partner will then take this drive home at the end of every day for safe offsite keeping. What do you recommend we do for this? Should we buy another duplicate raid system (same as the primary) and just mirror it, or should we buy a different type/name hard drive system? Should we make the backup system Raid 0 for easier access to files if needed? How should execute the backing-up process...drag and drop, time capsule, or some third party solution?
As you can probably tell, I'm hoping to get specific equipment recommendations and well as process recommendations. Advice in any of these areas would be much appreciated!
    Thanks so much!

Copy and Paste your question to either the Adobe or Creative Cow forums and you'll probably get a great deal of ideas about what's ideal..

  • Need help regarding "Macbook Pro Distorted Video or No Video issues"

Hi there, I'm new and I'm kinda need help or opinion from all of you Mac users.
I have a MPB which is the first generation released 2005-2006, which its 4 years back. Now, the main problem is after 4 years of non-graphic problems, I encounter the NVIDIA graphics processor problems, which make my screen scrambled and unable to click or do anything. For some reason that Apple did say they will change/replace the graphic processor for free due faulty issue of the NVIDIA. But what I wanted to know and reconfirm is, since my MPB was 1st generation and version 2005/06, will Apple cover the change/replacement NVIDIA processor for free? Because I really need to have a confirmed answer before I went to the AASP in Malaysia, which I know they will make a fuss by asking me to pay with my previous incident which my battery deflect and charger/adapter melted. So, please kindly reply this post. Thank you for you time.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
How about printing out the Apple article about this and taking it with you?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
However, if you really do have the first MBP introduced in January 2006, it actually has a different video chip, the ATI Mobility Radeon X 1600, which unfortunately is not the NVIDIA chip covered by the NVIDIA program. So if that's what you have, you are out of luck for a free repair. ATI Mobility Radeon chips can also go bad, but there is no program that I know of that will cover them.
Sorry to not have better news for you.
    Good luck!

  • Need help installing my graphics driver in windows vista via boot camp

New to mac so first time on forum as well.
Love the Mac but i also want to get on some old games. C&C The First Decade mainly.
    I am currently using below.
Mac mini Mid 2011 processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core it
    Memory 4 GB 1333 Mhz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6630M 256 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
Installing windows vista home premium 32 bit
I have installed windows vista home premium using boot camp assistant and downloaded the windows drivers as well. After i have installed windows i installed boot camp using my Mac OS X snow leopard which installed boot camp 3 or 3.1 i believe and i eventually got apple updates for 3.2 which is what i am now runnning on vista. I had trouble getting my sound to play through my speakers at first but eventually got them working and now it is my graphics driver that i cannot seem to get working. In vista(I also downloaded service pack 1 and 2) when i go to control panel and check out my device control it shows a yellow exclamation point next to the adapter. I guess i need help in getting my graphics installed correctly on my windows. Is there something i should take off to install the correct driver? Or do i just need the correct driver download? If i have the correct driver how do i upload it onto my windows side in the device control.
When i try to run c&c generals/zero hour i get a directx 8.1 error, red alert 2 is black but i can hear. i know these games can work i installed the graphics correctly the first time when i did not have sound as this is my second time installing windows so the game did load when i did not have sound.
    Advise?
I was thinking about saying forget this i can't waste hours of my time anymore but i have to be close to getting everything working if i had graphics before and no sound but sound this time and no graphics. I was also thinking about just buying windows 7 home premium sp1 64bit system builder dvd off amazon and reinstalling windows using windows 7 but i want to make sure i can play these games before i spend the money. I thought my mini couldn't support windows vista and if it did only boot camp 4? how am i getting this far to get things to work?
What is the driver i need to install to get these games working? What do I need to do or what am I missing???
Do i need to install a different boot camp off apple and find a driver that will get mine to work in vista?
Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated i have been at this everyday for hours.

Also is there something, say maybe a driver, that was installed i do not need that is blocking me from installing the correct drivers? What driver in my boot camp folder do i need to install to get to the correct display to run those games.

  • NEED HELP PLEASE / GREEN LIGHT LINE IN EDITING TIME LINE

    Hello,
I am editing a video using premier 6.5.
When I render the video edited the red line in the work space pass to dark green what is normal, but also appears a smal portion of the video with a light green line in the rendered area.
When i play the video and the reader pass through this light green part the sound sudently increasy 80%.
I tried everything even re editing that section but the light green line keep appearing after rendering and the sound problem back.
This part of the editing where the light green line is have many sound tracks but the sound level is the same to the rest of video so dont understand why that happen
    can anyone help please?

    Hi thanks for your reply.
When i render the time line a dark green line appears...as u say that show the working area has been rendered but in this case also other extra line appears in part of the video ( only in a section) the line is light green ...diferent to the other
when I play video and pass though this light green line the music tract gets extra loud 80% higher.
When I play again the video to check if the other parts has been affected I can see all sound levels have changed and need to use audio mixer to balance them again. In spite of that when pass thought light green line all happen again.
could be that the sound tracks have different formats? in that section where the problrem is I have 6 diferent sound tracks overlaped but the sound level is the same for all so do not understand why when i render appear this green extra line

  • Need Help with Corrupted Graphics

I need help real bad. I have spent the last 2 weeks trying to find the reason for crashing in game (not blue screening but corrupted graphics) where the whole screen goes like a television that isn't tuned in, and then after anywhere between 2 to 5 mins my computer will reboot. I'm wondering if anyone has a similar issue, and if there is a fix. I'll list my system specs and a couple of things I have done that hasn't fixed it.
    AMD64 3200+ 939 90mn
    MSI K8N Neo2 - 1.4 bios
    2 x 512mb Geil UltraX
    Leadtek 6800u
    Audigy
    SuperFlower 14cm 500watt
I haven't started to overclock my machine yet as I have yet to fix this problem. Everything is running stock. I'm finding that its random. I can play Prince of Persia Warrior Within for hours on end without a problem. Then play Counterstrike Source and it will go to  after about 5 mins. I decided to try benchmarks and 3dmark01 will do the same thing randomly. Even Battle Field will play for about 10 mins and it will just go to the fuzzy screen. I even heard that some Soundblaster Cards cause problems and have tried using the onboard sound, with no effect. I have also disabled AGP SideBand and AGP Fastwrite in the bios, as also this can cause some issues, to no effect. I thought maybe the video card maybe the problem, and threw a crappy 5700 LE in my machine, still with no effect. CPU temp is around 36c (water cooled) and GPU is around 48c. Does anyone have any idea as to why the screen craps out in just about every game I play. I'm running Winxp Pro SP2 with DX9.0c, with the latest Drivers for everything I'm running (mainboard, vga, sound, etc). If you can suggest something, please let me know.

X-((Well, This sorta sounds like what just happened to me.
My graphics card decided to take a dump on me. When I was playing a game the graphics went all garbled and everything froze. System rebooted a couple times, and yes it seems the cards fan stoped rotating and it fried.
So to me, it sounds like your video. But you say you tried changing video cards with no effect.
Dang.  Sorry I cant think of anything. But on the bright side, your post was bumped.

  • I need help cropping black border I am editing news footage at home!

All info about this leads to instructions for old versions, etc...I just got a $600 program to convert footage but want to use PE8 to change levels, non red key, luma, etc.  I CANNOT figure this out.  There is no help anywhere.  I got over 30 hours into this project and the result is something I can't use.  PLEASE HELP!  I need this FINISHED by next Tuesday which means I need to export this READY TO CUT now so I can work with it in another program.

    CandyCLC
From what your wrote, I am assuming that your Panasonic HVX200 original recorded 720p30 (1280 x 720) with what is said to be its DVDPRO HD Codec. Why did you “convert” that with the Edius Pro software and to what did you convert it? I know that you say 1280 x 720, but….
Please take that the 1280 x 720 (Edius conversion product) that you are using for video editing in Premiere Elements and run it through the free utility named gspot.
    http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/quick_start.html
and let us know the video’s properties, especially
    Video. Codec Name Status
    Audio. Codec Name Status
    Frame Size and Frame Rate
    Sar, Par, and Dar values
If you set your Premiere Elements project preset (new project dialog) for NTSC HDV HDV 720p and you import 1280 x 720 16:9 Square Pixels video into that project, you should not be seeing black borders in the template in the Edit Mode Monitor of the program. (In Edit Menu/Preferences/General, do you have a check mark next to "Default Scale to Frame Size"?)
Also, the party line is that once you set a project preset (new project dialog) for a project and open that project, you cannot reset the project preset. To the contrary, you can do that, at least in Premiere Elements 7.0, by editing the Notepad or WordPad document for the project whose project preset you want to change. I and others done that. I have not tried that in Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1. I will do that today and report back.
As for copying and pasting between projects. A program called ClipMate has been used in some cases. I have done a how to on that
    http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51325&highlight=Clipmate
As for the Interpret Footage, there is no reason why you should have to involve this in this matter. I suspect that more details on your use of the Edius product for conversion to ??? will shed some light on this situation.

    Hi,

  • Need help with coding for HTML5 Video with Flash fallback

Hello, need help with my coding in Dreamweaver CS5.5 for HTML5 video with Flash fallback. Not sure if the coding is correct. Do I need anything else Javascipt etc?

The reason you see a blank page is because it's trying to load the file that is pretty humungous and there is no preloader. So, you see a white screen till it complets loading.
Also, the reason why its loading a SWF file and not any of HTML5 type video is because your doctype declaration is XHTML1.0 and not HTML5.
Change the 1st line in your .html file from:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    to:
    <!DOCTYPE html>
Then see if your HTML5 video types load with <video> tag.

  • I need help updating the graphic drivers for my laptop.

Recently purchasd a new game and I am having some issues with the graphics. Every post I have read suggests it is an issue between HP and amd. I keep trying and seem to be going backwards. I would love to actually talk to someone from hp but they haven their number very well. I have tried every combination between hp and amd and I am obviously missing something. I dont have much hair left to pull out.

Hi there ,  Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great site to get answers and ask questions.  I read your post on the HP Support Forums and you had mentioned that you are looking for help Updating the Graphics Drivers on your HP Pavilion dv7t-6c00 CTO Notebook PC.  I have the actual drivers page for your specific HP Pavilion dv7t-6c00 CTO. It has the AMD Graphic Driver on this page. You could also update the drivers a couple other ways.  1. Using the HP Support Assistant2. Going into the Device Manager, Right click on the AMD Graphic and doing an update.  You had also mentioned that you wanted to actually talk to someone from HP. Please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:
Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on: HP contact options - click on Get phone number
Case number and phone number appear.
They will be happy to assist you immediately. Let me know how everything goes.  Have a great day!

  • Need advice on getting macbook for video editing purpose!

    Hi!
Was thinking of getting the macbook to do some video editing stuff so would appreciate valuable advices for those who have done it before. Was thinking that I will upgrade it to 2gb and a bigger hdd when i purchase it.
Is it slow on the macbook? Anyone tried using adobe premiere or final cut pro on macbook? Heard that battery is draining very fast on macbook also? Care to share?
    Thanks.

    Hi mackie,
In addition to 777iPod which is correct that my external DVD burner is faster than my macbook optical drive, I also use it for Dual Layer media if I need one, since my original macbook didn't come with one.
Also I use the lightscribe etching program to etched the top surface of my dvd disk project.
And my internal HD is 100 GB (7200 rpm), after I replaced the apple standard and my external HD is 500 GB Lacie D2 and Lacie Porsche 160 GB.
And if I'm not mistaken, adobe already stop developing premiere on mac platform, so if I'm right, the last premiere will be for Power PC and it will struggle using it under mac intel using rosseta.
You can use new premiere version on boot camp xp if there is none available for mac.
And here is a nice toy to play if you haven't got one:

    Good Luck.
ps: I guess most poster suggest you to consider macbookpro and it is not a bad idea.

    I NEED HELP DESPERATELY!!!!!!!!!
    Dell Inspiron   Windows 2000

Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes (iTunes 7.0.2.16). To find the version of iTunes you have open iTunes, click Help, then About iTunes. If this does not work then follow the following instructions:
For iTunes Technical support please call 1-800-APL-CARE
    or
Another problem might be that your service pack of Windows 2000 is not the latest version (Windows 2000 Service Pack 4).
I would recogmend getting Windows XP, many advantages over Windows 2000. Especially security and looks wise.
