i am a foreign person who want to buy a laptop .since the price of thinkpad in America is more acceptable and the qulity more reliable than in my country, i d like to ask one of my friend who is now in the us to buy a thinkpad for me.the question is that he knows little English and has some difficulty in communicating with American people.
so who can tell me when and where to buy a thinkpad of high qulity while at low price in your country?
By the way ,my friend lives in Indiana.what is the tax rate there?

I will just go to my main concern.
I lost the phone of my aunt which is an iPhone 4. It was stolen from my bag. Out of common sense, I have to find a replacement because I know the my aunt invested money on it. However, brand new iPhone 4 here on our country are still pretty expensive for my budget. It is also hard to find becuase mostly stores no longer carry it becuase there is now iPhone 5. So, i have no choice, but to purchase a second-hand iPhone 4. So far, the second-hand iPhone 4 that I saw are from Singapore and Japan.
Now, my question. How can I be sure that the iPhone 4 that I purchase will work in the United States when my aunt will go back to the US. She works and live in the United States. I want to make sure that she can use the phone when she goes back to the United States.
Please please please I need help.

The $8 a month is nominal compared to the benefit and peace of mind. I have had it on all my phones and typically you have to ask for it.
Over the past two years I have used it twice. My phone at the time was an HTC Evo, about a $500 phone. To replace outside the 2yr contact you must pay full price. That is $1000 for 2 phones.
The insurance cost me a couple hundred plus the deductibles. That's under $500 to replace two phones, or a savings of about $500 or 50%.
Even if you replace 1 phone in two years, your saving a few hundred- more if its an iPhone which retails starting at $700.
It all depends on where and how you use your device. If you never replaced one before the you may be better off without. I also don't put cases or screen protectors on my phones. I wouldn't dare put one on my beautiful iPhone 5.
Just a thought, if you don't have insurance, you should be ready to drop $750 at any given time for a new iPhone. Otherwise you end up with a temporary flip.

Need help with Laptop decision

I am sorry about the length of this post, but I really need help. I am trying to buy a laptop and what should be a really exciting prospect (buying my first laptop) is turning into a nightmare that just about had me in tears over the weekend.
My budget is not big - 600 absolute max, but would prefer to spend a bit less than this.
I do mainly office work (Word, Excel, Databases and PowerPoint) and also some Photoshop work. I also play a strategy game called Caesar 3. I very much want to load my copy of XP on the machine, either replacing Vista or as a partition.
Looking through the models available in my price range and looking up the benchmarks I have found the following:
Most have processors like the Intel T5250 or T5450 or the AMD TL 58, which are all benchmarked as ok, but not great. A few have the AMD TL 60, which is a bit better and one or two have the Intel T7200 which is even better.
On the bulk of the machines the graphics cards are either the ATI Radeon Xpress X1200 or the Intel GMA X3100. Both of these are benchmarked as not great and the review says that they cannot handle strategy games. A few of the models have the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 or HD 2400XT and one or two have the HD 2600.
The problem is that the models that have the better processor have the lower rated graphics card and those that have both don't have XP drivers, as far as I can see.
Don't mind a 15.4'' screen (although the 17.1'' would be very nice to have) and would like a reasonably big hard drive (160 +). I will be getting 2GB of RAM.
I am at my wits end. I don't want to buy a computer that will end up taking a minute or more to refresh a screen when you have more than two things open, or that you have to keep rebooting to get it to work. I want to be able to play my one and only game (Caesar III) which is a strategy game and I want to be able to work in Photoshop and perhaps have one or two other things open at the same time, like a website perhaps.
Please help me, anyone. Am I asking for the impossible? I can't get hold of an email address for Toshiba to try to get clarity from them on the issue of drivers and whether they will be made available in the future.
Then there is of course the retailer issue as each retailer only stocks a limited number of models and one has to choose between those.
I hope someone can help me!!

The problem is that you want to buy an all-round notebook but dont want to spend much money.
Additionally you want to change the OS to XP and need the XP drivers.
Well this is very hard decision buddy ;)
A notebook for gaming equipped with the power full graphic card cost a little bit more as 600
So you have to take a decision; Do you want to buy an gaming notebook and spend more as 600 or you will take an notebook which is great for a common usage like DVD watching, working with Office software, etc
The Cesar game is not known to me but I presume it doesnt need a high performance graphic card and it should run on a normal notebook too.
I think a Satellite a200 is not bad choice for you because some A200 notebooks were delivered with the Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor and a NVIDIA GeForce graphic card.
And very important is that all XP drivers were already released ;)

I would recommend a desktop for gaming over a laptop because you'll have the ability to upgrade the video card down the road (all of these PC's have a PCI Express slot available) and more importantly, better heat dissipation (plus you can usually add additional case fans if necessary). Plus, the cost is half that of a laptop. But if you need it to be portable, then you'll have to look at the laptops, and if you do that, consider a laptop chiller to keep it cool.
Also, look at the AMD processor systems. Most systems in the lower price range incorporate onboard graphic solutions. Most games want either an ATI or Nvidia solution for 3D graphics, pixel shading, etc. The Intel Graphics Solution won't run those games at all. Also, I would avoid any mini-case desktop PCs (slimlines), because they tend to run hotter inside, some graphic cards will not fit inside them, and some have non-standard size components (such as the motherboard, power supply, etc.
IMHO - I would spend what is necessary to run the games you want at a comfortable margin and save the extra money for down the road upgrades or a replacement system when you encounter a game you really want to play that won't run on your system.

The only change would be the Power Supply. Get if you can an Antec TruePower. You can get a True330W for around $55.00 and it is well worth it if you are going to upgrade from onboard graphics in the next week or so.
The GeForce4 Ti4200 is the best bang for the buck at them moment, and they are getting hard to find in the 64Mb 4X Version. If you can get one for $125.00 you are doing very well and will be very happy with your computer.

The phone synched and it did to the settings when the iphone 4 first came out last year, dating back to when i first had it on february 24th, 2011. I need to restore it back but everytime i try to do it through itunes it puts me back to the same settings, i hope someone knows how to fix this problem, i would greatly appreciate any help!!!!

Check here and see if you got an automatic backup when you pluuged into iTunes. (Fingers Crossed)

If the recent backup is there, simply restore your phone from that backup. It sounds to me that instead of syncing the phone just by connecting it to the computer, you may have restored the phone to your ancient backup. No problem if you have the newer backup, but a huge problem if you don't have the recent backup.
If, in fact, you did restore the phone instead of getting a backup thru the (automatic) sync process, I'd strongly suggest getting the difference between the two straight in your mind.
My other suggestion would be to understand that your iPhone is "managed" thru iTunes. You need to connect the two whenever possible instead of using the charger.

Need help migrating mail to new machine.....manually

I need to wax my machine and start over. I have tried to use migration assistant but the problem I need to cure comes along too. So we want to just start over. I know how to manually move itunes and iphoto. But what folders have my mail and bookmarks for safari?

if you backup the whole ~/Library/Mail/ Folder you'll have everything.
it depends on your email - if they are IMAP then you only need to back up the mailboxes that are stored locally on your mac. If they are POP you'll want everything.
For pop I'd suggest to do a "get mail" and make a new mailboxes (call it INBOX or anything you want) then move all of the inbox content into that mailbox.
I find it less confusing that way and when you setup your email account on your new mac you'll get all the POP emails coming in and they'll be all marked as Unread. But because you've moved all latest e-mails to your newly created INBOX you can safely delete those "unread" emails that comes in when you set up your mail.

However as I want to eventually want to move all connections to BT servers I have been trying to set up a BT news account but without success. I have read many forum threads here dealing with this problem but still cannot get any connection. I have tried entering my default BT and Unison username and password but still no joy! All I get is this ...
I know the BT server name is news.btinternet.com using port 119 which I have entered but cannot understand what else to do! I guess the problem is the user/password combination I am entering. I am on a Mac OSX and have Mozilla Thunderbird for my email and have tried to set this up also but with no success. Can anyone help please?

The news server is news.btinternet.com (or as also mentioned news.btopenworld.com) and no userid/password details should be used.
You mention all is well using the Pipex server set up, do you mean that you are actually still connected to Pipex ? (easily checked by going here http://www.ip-adress.com/ ).
You need to be connected to a BTinternet connection in order to use the news server.

Need some help installing photoshop onto my new computer. Way back when I was in college I purchased photoshop. It has worked fine for everything that I do, plus I know all the tricks to this particular version. It has only been installed on 2 computers before...both my own computers. Now we have a new computer because the last one broke & I haven't been able to download the program. I have the cd etc but wondering why I can't download it. Could it be because it is so old....?? I have resorted to posting here as there seems to be forum chat that the administrators are good at solving problems.
I have placed a new order on Monday 20th for phone, broadband and tv package for installation on the 7th feb, i was told that i would be sent a confirmation email by the end of day with installation time etc, did not arrive, i have phoned the call center who said there is no record of order for the given address, i said that the money has been taken from my account and the reply was i must of been a victim of fraud and the 0800 100400 number was not bt, i was then put through to billing i think and was then told yes there is an order for that address and the email will be sent out by end of the day, nothing again, i need to know what time the engineer is coming on that date as its critical to when i arrange moving in to property etc, told they can not tell me and its in the email, its now friday and still nothing, i still cannot arrange moving property times as i have no idea whats going on with installation!! I spent nearly an hour on the phone and most of that on hold??
This is not a good start.

Need help with my iTunes-new computer-can't access my music

We just got a new computer and I transferred all of my songs from the old to the new and now when I try to access them in iTunes I get an error message that "it cannot be used because the original file cannot be located" Do I have to put in the DVD with all of the files on it in order to use any of my song? I thought that I saved them to my hard drive, but who knows....HELP!!! pLEase!!!

You haven't told us enough about what you did.
You need to explain exactly how you did your transfer.
If you don't care about your ratings and play counts and your really did copy your files across, there is a simple way of getting going again.
With iTunes closed drag iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.itl out of the iTunes folder to the desk top.
Start iTunes and you will have an empty library. Now simply add the folder with your music files in it - normally iTunes Music - to iTunes with File>Add folder to library.
If you didn't copy your files across, try putting the DVD in the drive and opening iTunes - can iTunes find your files now. If so it is a sign you added the files to your library without copying them to your internal HD.

i have worked with new i/o but i never used DatagramChannel before. now i need this for more speed. i tried with this but failed. i dont find it works exactly the way api says. i need examples for both server side and client side programs. pls somebody help me.

There is no guarentee that using DatagramChannel will make your program faster, unless you know that network traffic is your bottleneck.
