Also Do I Need A Power Supply?

Jumpman,
Please reply after you have measured the existing Power supply.
Is it a Min ITX (3.2 x 1.7 x 6) or a TFX (3.4 x 2.5 X 7)
Athena Power has just released a news article in Smart Computing that relates to their new product line of power supplies for the Slimline cases.
Just as an example, this card needs a minimum of 400W :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150577
Caution: You can not use a graphics card that the Power Supply does not support (PINOUT and WATTAGE). Slimline power units do not have PCIE power plug(s), as yet. (See Athena if they have any).

  • Need advice about second graphics card for PowerPC G5

My boss bought me a second monitor for our office computer, so we can use two monitors on one computer.  The problem is we need a second graphics card to handle the second monitor and I'm not sure what to buy.
The computer is a  Dual 2.7 GHz Power PC G5.
The second monitor that my boss gave me is a View Sonic HD Widescreen LCD with a DVI-D single link connector.
What should we buy to make all of this work together?  The company I work for is very cheap, so we need to do this rather inexpensively.

You don't need a second card (which would kill several advanced features on the main card anyway) but a card with two appropriate output connectors.
What card is in the machine at present?  Open System Profiler in /Applications/Utilities and click on the Graphics/Displays item under Hardware, viz. this screen grab:
The top bold-face line will have the information you need, plus if two monitors are supported (which I am betting is true) one of the displays entries will be "No Display Connected."  I am pretty sure that any card that came with the 2.7 originally has two video connectors, probably DVI.  According to the specs listed on the Power Macintosh specs pages, the 2.7 base card had a single-link and dual-link pair of DVI connectors.

  • Need help on new graphic card purchase

    Dear Apple users,
I am looking for a graphic card to replace an older one. I have searched high and low but have no idea which cards are compatible.
My existing graphic card which came with my G4 MDD is the Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti (256mb). I am looking for something with an equivalent specification or higher, but since my monitor is still the old 15" widescreen (got that when I purchased the G4 Cube back in 2000), only graphic cards with HDMI support are compatible. Which basically means if I need to replace my monitor as well, I'd still have to get a graphic card.
I was told that newer graphic cards only have DVI ports instead.
Do I just get any graphic card with DVI port, or must it be something more specific for the Macintosh? What about AGP or PCI Express? I am not familiar at all with these =(
For example, if I get the GeForce 7600 GT, will it work? Or do I have to be more specific and get the GeForce 7600 GT for Macintosh?
Thank you for your recommendations and advice beforehand. If there is any information I haven't provided that may be useful, please do not hesitate to post and I will get back as soon as possible.
    Regards.

    Hi,
First things first. No apple display has ever shipped with HDMI support. Are you sure you are not referring to ADC?
    It looks like this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:AppleDisplayConnector.jpg
Does your display look like this?
    http://www.everymac.com/images/monitorpictures/apple_studiodisplay15.jpg
If so it definitely is ADC.
Secondly, unfortunately all the latest video cards do not support ADC, you will have to buy an adapter which costs $99 from the Apple online store:
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=M86 61LL/B
Your Power Mac only features an AGP slot (not PCI-E found on the latest PCs and Mac Pro). The video card you buy must be a Mac compatible AGP card.
A good card compatible with your Mac would be the 9800 Pro mac edition:
    http://www.amazon.com/ATI-Radeon-9800-Video-100-435058/dp/B000BJBCGG
The 9600 Pro is also a good card, not as good as the 9800 Pro of course.
    http://www.amazon.com/ATI-Radeon-9600-PRO-Mac/dp/B000JFKZPQ
Both cards would be a significant upgrade over your current one.
    Good Luck!

  • I need help updating the graphic drivers for my laptop.

Recently purchasd a new game and I am having some issues with the graphics. Every post I have read suggests it is an issue between HP and amd. I keep trying and seem to be going backwards. I would love to actually talk to someone from hp but they haven their number very well. I have tried every combination between hp and amd and I am obviously missing something. I dont have much hair left to pull out.

  • Need help with compatible cuda card for MacPro3.1

would NVIDIA Quadro 4000 work with MacPro3.1 early 2008 model?

Barefeats has tested and found 3,1's to have real performance issues, so what you get out of a card and while they work it may not be ideal. And I keep seeing more issues with the Early 2008 model than any others, the blasted way they tried to cobble two  PCIe 1.1 slots along with two PCIe 2.0.
Hey MacVidCards- I saw someone on a thread say "leave the 3,1 for dead campaign.." Does this mean the 3,1 machines won't run the 780ti using PCIe v.2? I have a bunch of 3,1 machines, and it seems like a better idea to put dual 780ti cards in them all than buy 2013 nMP machines.
And again, Thanks for all the updates with this info!
No, we have found serious issues with GPU performance on 3,1 machines in Mavericks.
There is a thread at Netkas, I was able to move HD and GPUs from 3,1 to 4,1 and record massive differences.

  • Need new low-end graphics card for Power Mac G5 (PowerPC 970)

My Power Mac G5 (PowerPC 970) has recently died I believe due to a bad
ATI RADEON X800 XT MAC EDITION video card.
Reason for thinking its the card, is that the machine was performing its intended tasks for several days even though the monitor was snow.
Having trouble determining a low-end replacement. (I no longer need the enhanced features of the RADEON X800 for this machine.
Much appreciated if someone could suggest a product appropriate for PowerPC 970.
    Thanks!

I also ran into this issue with my dual G5. When I bought it, I didn't get wireless because it was a dedicated desktop on the network, but I'm upgrading and giving it to the kids to use in a room without wired network. Now that wireless would be really nice and it looks like the official solution is:
"Apple Wireless Upgrade Kit for Power Mac G5 Dual or Power Mac G5 Quad MA252G/A"
which is really expensive and difficult to install. But the weird thing is that I do have bluetooth. I wonder if there's just some little doodad I need to connect to get wireless going too, but I can't find any info on the card, and it looks like it's buried on the motherboard behind all the cooling stuff. I'll probably just spring for one of the USB solutions.

Unless you have a tower case this won't work. It's a full-size card.  Your original post said you needed low-profile, and this is not such a card.  I assume you have a SFF case if you wanted a low-profile card.
That's why I suggested the low-profile Sapphire R7-250, which is single-slot, low-profile, low-power, and still GDDR5 memory with a 72GB/s bandwidth.  Also, the retail carton contains BOTH (a) full-size bracket if you want to use this low-profile card in a full-size case, and (b) low-profile bracket if you want to use this low-profile card in a SFF case.  As I mentioned, there are three digital connectors: DVI, miniDP, and microHDMI, and the retail package also includes two adapters for those smaller connectors so you can use normal full-size DP and HDMI cables to connect to your monitor
The earlier posted link (by Toruk-Makto) to a 250e is broken, so I don't know what that card that's describing.  But any low-profile R7-250e card I've found myself (e.g. this one from XFX) has two bad things going for it:
    (1) it's memory is DDR3 instead of DDR5, which right away sets its bandwidth to about 1/3 that of the Sapphire R7-250. You want DDR5 memory if you can get it.
    (2) it doesn't indicate that it comes with a low-profile bracket as well as a full-size bracket (as the Sapphire R7-250 does), so even though the card itself appears low-profile in size you won't be able to install it in a SFF case unless you have a low-profile bracket (as the Sapphire R7-250 does). Maybe it's just the writeup for the R7-250e which overlooked the second low-profile bracket also included, but the picture shown is with a full-size bracket.
Note: the full-size bracket on the XFX R7-250e supports full-size DP and full-size HDMI as well as DVI.  The low-profile bracket on the Sapphire R7-250 supports mini-DP, micro-HDMI and DVI.  The retail carton also includes two adapter cables so that you can connect full-size DP and full-size HDMI cables, connecting them to the adapters.  Personally I would buy a separate straight-through cable with the proper desired connector at both ends, as I don't like adapters.  So for example I use a miniDP->DVI cable (from Monoprice) in one of my machines that has this card and two monitors, to connect to a second monitor which only has DVI, as I was already using the DVI connector on the card to go to my first monitor which also only has DVI.

  • Best graphics card for Mac Pro Early 2008?

I have a Mac Pro Early 2008 with the default graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 2600), and would like to make an upgrade to a better graphics card that will run games smoothly. I'm not an expert with computers at all, but all I know is I would like to buy a graphics card for around $200-$300 (If it's more expensive then that's ok, but preferrably this price range) that will get me the best performance possible. I play games like Minecraft, Skyrim, and Team Fortress 2. Thank you for any help/recommendations you can provide!
Also, I wasn't sure which section to post this in, but feel free to move this thread.

Also, to provide more information (not sure if needed), I have dual monitors and the following specs:
    Processor  2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  16 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB

I am looking to buy a graphics card for my HP Compaq dc7800 Small Form Factor PC, I would like to have cheap cards. What would you recommend.
    This question was solved.

    Hi:
You are rather limited with the 240W power supply.
I would get a used low profile ATI Radeon 2400 HD 256 MB PCIe card on eBay.
This Dell card I posted should work just fine.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-ATI-Radeon-HD-2400PRO-320-5891-/280798788349?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash...
If you want a new low profile card with HDMI out you can check the link below for the Radeon HD 6450. But make sure the card you get comes with the low profile bracket, and read the reviews on some of these cards where they say the VGA pins hamper closing the case.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006662&IsNodeId=1&Description=HD%2064...
If you get a card with HDMI out, it will disable your onboard video, so restart the PC after you load the drivers for the card, go into the BIOS and in the device configuration menu, change the onboard audio setting from disabled to enabled. Save the setting there and again when you exit. Then you will get your onboard audio back and also have HDMI audio if you need it.

  • Can I get a better graphic card for my laptop?

Hi, my name is Mitchell and about a few years ago i got an Hp Pavilion G6 Notebook pc.  I use my laptops mostly for school work but now ive started to play games on it and ive noticed that I can play some games because the graphic card is not the best.  Instead of makeing a new gaming pc I wanted to just upgrade the graphic card on it?  Am I able to buy a graphic card for it and instal it?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
What is your G6 ? G6 is a series of many models/laptops and normally we can't upgrade video card on 99.5% of them. Not just G6 series, other laptops from HP and other vendors as well. We can only upgrade video card on some REAL games and work station class machines.
