Need Help: Can I get songs I bought off Itunes from a different Computer onto my new one?

I do not have the old computer available to me anymore. But when I enter my Itunes Purchased History I see all the songs I bought on the old computer and I would really like to not have to buy those all again. I'm hoping there is a way I can simply download them onto this computer without re-purchasing. Please Let me know!

Nope.
Apple recomends after each purchase to BACKUP your purchases. If purchased on a mobile device (iPhone, iTouch, iPod, etc) you should transfer your purchases to a computer running iTunes as soon as possible to back them up.
If you don't have your items in your library, I'm afraid there is little recourse.

What is it that you are having issues with?
Did you know that you can display the same sidebar you were used to seeing on the old iTunes by clicking on "View" at the top, and then clicking on "Show Sidebar"?
The Songs tab provdes your list of songs that can have the same columns you had on the old Music tab, and you can sort them by any of the categories you have selected for columns.
It may just take a little getting used to. Not sure if you noticed, but the downloading of songs and other purchases is now lightening-fast. That particular trade-off is worth learning some new ways of navigating around. And finding that there are ways to bring back the "look" of the old iTunes was also helpful for me.
Are there particular things which are causing you grief?

The iTunes program was on the old MBP hard drive.How do I essentially recreate my previous iTunes library, playlists, etc on my new laptop?

You will need the iTunes Library.itl file which generally lives in ~/Music/iTunes/. You can recover this from the backups you were making before the HDD died. Otherwise, you cannot recreate the library.

You can use your backup to populate the iTunes library on your new computer. If you havn't bothered maintaining a backup then apps can be re-downloaded from the app store for free (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519), but media (music/films/tv shows) can only be downloaded once from iTunes (which is one reason why you are advised to make a backup). Purchases made on the iPhone can be transferred off it via File > Transfer Purchases. It's possible, if you do a search on google, that you might find utilities that can help you copy the contents of your iPhone.
You will also find a search box on the right hand side of this window where you can search for similar threads to yours, and which might have more info in them.

I moved the contents of itunes to an external hard drive that is connected to the computer that I have always used itunes on. Now when I open itunes there are no songs in itunes. I have no idea how to fix this. Also, when I plug in my ipod an error message shows that this ipod is synched with another computer and what would I like to do. I have never connected it to any other computer. I was only trying to free up space on my computers hard drive by putting itunes and pictures on the external drive. I checked the other help topics but don't see a solution. Thanks

You'd have to know based on the specs of your computer.

I note the original iMac G5 had BOTH USB 1 (on keyboard) AND 2 (on CPU?) ports, so you might want to ensure you're using the right port.

Or, if you don't have an external hard drive, then (IF YOU HAVE ALL YOUR MEDIA FROM ITUNES ON YOUR IPOD) you could use this to get the media off you pod to your new computer!
I would recomend an external drive anyway, that way everything is backed up!

It may also be possible to extract the hard drive from the laptop and mount it in an external drive bay to recover your library and the rest of your personal files directly.

It must have found the old backup corrupt.. so you will more than likely have little choice. You can archive off the old backup if it is still useful.

AAll of your iTunes purchases can be re-downloaded again. Log into iTunes Store, select the Purchases tab for Apps, Music, etc.
if you've been syncing your old iPod with iTunes, you can restore everything to your new iPod from the old backup.
