Need help. Can't update my OS (10.5.5)

Question

Every time I tried to update my sofware (OS and apps) I get an error message. I've had this problem for a couple of months now and I haven't being able to get rid of it. It happens with manual and automatic installs. I have 10.5.5, I've tried to install the 10.5.8 Combo and the 10.5.6 update, both have failed.
Message from manual install:
"The following install step failed: run preinstall script for MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
"The following install step failed: run preinstall script for MacOSXUpd10.5.6. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
Message from automatic install:
"None of the checked updates could be installed.
The following install step failed: run preflight script for IPhoto Updater. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
I've read a couple of post with the same problem and different solutions, none of them have worked for me and even some people have without their problem being resolved. Please I really need to fix this.

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
Since you haven't told us what you've done, we can only suggest the usual:
Do a +*Repair Permissions+* and +*Verify Disk+* (not permissions) on your internal HD, via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder). If the +Verify Disk+ fails, you'll have to boot from your Install disc and use it's copy of DU to repair. Post back if you need to do this but aren't sure how.
If those succeed, disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse, and try the "combo" again.
If no help, do an +Archive and Install,+ preserving users and settings, per the *Archive & Install* section of the Glenn Carter - Restoring Your Entire System / Time Machine *User Tip.*
Then try the "combo" again.
If still no luck, make an appointment with the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store.
