Need Help choosing a new tv and home theater system.

I can never really keep up with all the new stuff coming out but i am not really looking for anything too fancy just simple. I looking for something around 50" and a blue ray home theater system. My budget is roughly around $2000 or so. the less i spend the better hahhahaha. anyways the only thing i will be hooking up to the tv is the new home theater system, cable and Xbox 360. Any suggestions?

All the 50" tvs are plasma, so I would recommend:
Model: PN50C680G5F | SKU: 120138 Model: YHT-493BL | SKU: 987545 Model: 114011-00 | SKU: 9343356 Model: 114011-00 | SKU: 9343356 Model: BD-C5900 | SKU: 1012858
That's a Samsung 50" 3D Plasma, Blu-ray player, Yamaha Home Theater system, and your 2 HDMI cables.  You'll need another HDMI cable for Xbox 360 if you don't have one already to connect to the receiver.

  • Please help with TV and home theater system for very large basement room....

I'm looking to get my boyfriend either a TV or home theater system for the basement.  I know he eventually wants a 3d TV.  Right now he has a set up where he has 2 tv's so he can play video games and watch sports.
The basement that the tv and home theater system will be in is large (I'd estimate at least 15 ft x 30 ft...maybe more) so I want to make sure the home theater system will be enough for the room.  We live in a ranch so basically the basement is almost the size of the house with some of it being storage.
I've started to look at products online but there are so many and technology isn't really my thing.
If anyone could help with recommendations for the home theater system and/or the tv I'd appreciate it!
    Thanks so so sooo much!!!!

What will he be using the HT system for?  Just watching sports or skipping the movie theater and watching them at home.   If you plan to watch them at home your going to be on a tight budget with the home theater system but it is possible.   Spend good money on the sub, that is one speaker you don't want to skimp out on.  With such a big space you have a lot of room to fill and the cheap subs aren't going to cut it.   You will probably need two subs as it is.  The speakers I recommend on a tight budget Polk or Klipsch.  My list includes a Denon receiver as I am a Denon fan but Yamaha, Onkyo, or Pioneer will suffice.
Here is a Option 1 will run you about 1700 with just one sub. You could always go up a model on each speaker if you feel the one sub is enough.  I like an explosion sounding like it happened in front of me so that is why I mention 2 subs.

  • I need help choosing a new MBP (previous one was stolen)

Hello everyone, I need help choosing my next macbook pro because my previous one (15" Core i7 high res anitglare screen) was stolen . As you probably tell I spent a lot of money on my previous one and now I am a broke college student that doesn't have $2,400 to drop on a replacement.
So this is where you come in... because of budget reasons I have been looking at the 13 inch macbook pro but I just cannot bring myself to spend $1200 on a laptop with old technology (Core 2 duo processor) not to mention it is only 2.4ghz. I am not really sure what to ask about it I think i just need some good stats or other convincing information to allow me to buy it.
I know about the student discount and the refurb. macs, are there any other reliable ways to get a less expensive MBP?
I am a converted PC user and I LOVE macs, please don't let my budget make me revert back to a PC...

Like you’ve already said refurb is a good option.
I know it’s a bit late now but let me point you in the direction of Prey Project.
Prey Project is an open source program I use on my MacBook Pro, it’s a program that can track your computer and phones if stolen using GPS / Google Maps etc to give you location of it.
It will also take pictures of who is in front of it, log what they are doing etc.
Check it out here http://preyproject.com/ this such an amazing program that is free to use, will work on Apple, Windows, Linux and Android phones.

  • How to connect Apple TV to projector and home theater system?

I have an Optoma HD20 projector that I have a long hdmi cable connected to and plugged that into my Apple TV. I also have an older home theater system that does not have an optical audio input. So I bought an adapter to go from optical audio to RCA cables. When I get it all plugged in and turned on I can't even get the video on my screen. What am I missing?
    This is the adapter...

Darn. Ok. Then do you have any suggestions for other options to connect the two? My projector is mounted to the middle of the ceiling with a whole for the wires that go along inside the ceiling to the other side of the room.

  • I need help choosing a new Palm phone.

    No device
I'm trying to get a new Palm phone but the HP website has no useful information.  I would appreciate anyone's help with choosing a new phone to replace my Palm Centro. I want to continue using the Palm because it sounds like iphones and other smart phones don't have a way to back up their contents and they all require internet.
Here are some of the qualities I'd like to have:
    1. No internet requirement but able to use wifi.
    2. ptunes or similar mp3 app that syncs with Rhapsody.
    Thanks,
    Mario

Hello mars_d11, I regret to inform you Palm Inc. ceased to exist years ago.
There are no more PalmOS phones in existence. You do have the option of searching for another Centro on the internet...p

  • NEED HELP --- hooking up tv, cable box, home theater

60" Samsung smart TV --- contains several HDMI inputs
Time Warner HD cable box --- contains 1 HMDI input; components as well
LG Home Theater in a box, Model #BH6820SW --- contains 1 HDMI output, red/white aux input, & yellow video output.
Very simple...... I want to turn my TV on, change channels with cable box remote & have my sound from TV come out of this home theater in a box I just bought.
I've been at this for hours and I'm ready to take it back because of the ongoing frustration. I have 3 HDMI cables to use (which obviously I won't need all of them), I have a red/white audio cables and a yellow video cable to use if needed.
Can someone out there PLEASE explain how this can be done?????????
    Thanks.

You may be able to do it by running a Digital Optical cable to the Digital optical input on the LG from the TW Cable Box, and a seperate HDMI cable to the TV from the TW Cable box.
Honestly though, I'd take it back and get a an AVR with HDMI switching, a set of speakers, and a standalone Blu Ray player. It'll cost more, but you'll get a better feature set, better performance, and more flexbilty to add more devices down the road.

  • How to set up connection for directv receiver, TV, and home theater system?

Can some one please show me the CORRECT way to connect my Directv receiver (it has no HDMI), Panasonic Viera HDTV (has 3 HDMIs) and my Samsung home theater HT-Z510 (has 1 HDMI)? The second question is with the set up that you advise, can I play the TV sound through my home theater speakers? and How do I do that each time I want to listen the TV sound through my home theater speakers? I am new and confused about all this so please provide or explain step by step please. Thanks in advance.

Making sense of your connections on a message board is never easy. Hopefully you can piece this information together.
Direct TV box to Panasonic TV using S-video cable....assuming it's standard definition. Component video if the box is HD. Run standard stereo RCA cables to the appropriate input for sound threw the TV speakers.
Your Panasonic TV will have a set of stereo(left/white,right/red) outputs. Run cable from that output into the same inputs on the Samsung surround unit. Use the sound units effects to acheive simulated surround. This is assuming you have no digital outputs on your box. If you do, you'll be able to get 5.1 when available using a digital connection.
    Good luck.

  • Need help choosing a new macbook

I want to buy a small lighter macbook. I have a 15" macbook pro. i do like it despite the MANY times it has been in for repair.
I need the smaller one for travel etc. I don't think I want the Air b/c it doesn't have a burner.
That leaves the 13" Macbook. I am on my computer many hours everyday. I do have too many photos & would like a great way to edit, save, store. I also download lots of music. I have a website and store that all on my desktop b/c my Macbook Pros burner ha not worked more that it has. I have to take it for repair again.
I would spend whatever to have everything I need in it.
Pls help me choose macbook and and things i should have configured on it.
    thx!

    hello!
the white MBs have always been dependable for me and every at my school. they work great and the new updated graphics card in the white MBs seems to be the thing you need. if you have a ton of stuff on the MB pro, the hard drive may not be big enough on he white MB, but for the price difference of an upgrade to the aluminum one, you can buy a TB of space on an external HD. not bad. the white MB has a SuperDrive. my flute teacher has a silver MB and it has a hard time picking up AirPort signals because of the metal, so the white one is better if you intend to use the AirPort frequently.
    hope that helps a bit!

p.s. here's a great case if you intend to carry around your laptop. i have it in pink and i absolutely love it!

  • I need help choosing a new laptop computer

    Hello
I currently have a lenovo 16in laptop and it craps out on me--I'm ready for a new comptuer.
I need it to be able to do research, write multiple documents and most importantly it needs to be portable and durable.
I am interested in the google chromebook but very hesistant.
    Please help!!

    Hey Taryn,
I understand you want a new laptop to do research, write documents, and browse the internet. Thank you for such great info to start out!! I have a couple questions.
Do you have any brands already in mind? What is your idea price range? And when you say portable, are you talking about a netbook or just a small laptop? I'm looking at laptops that Best Buy sells but answering these questions will really help me start to narrow it down for you!
Also, are you going to need your laptop for anything else other than the basic tasks you already listed??
    Thanks!

  • Need help choosing a new router (business use)

Here is what I have: Windows XP Pro Workstation (Wired) Server running Windows 2000 Server (Wired) Server running Linux (Wired) Windows XP Pro Laptop (Wireless) Playstation 3 (Wireless) I plan on creating a VPN connection to my network using Microsoft's VPN (Routing and Remote Access component to be specific); however, I currently have a 3 year-old Linksys Wireless-G Router w/Speedbooster (WRT54GS) that does not allow incoming VPN Connections. I have confirmed all the settings are correct on my end and the router will not cooperate. I would like to get a new router that will allow incoming VPN Connections and provide wireless to my wireless equipment. I DO NOT want to use 3rd party VPN software. Your recommendations are much appreciated.

It is unclear to me what kind of VPN connection you want to make exactly. Do you want to have a VPN connection from a computer in the internet using Microsoft's VPN client (i.e. PPTP or L2TP) to a server inside your LAN which is running the VPN server? What protocol do you want to use?
This should work through the WRT you have already. What hardware version do you have? Check the label underneath the router. Check for firmware upgrades for your router on the linksys technical support pages.
What port forwardings did you configure for the VPN tunnel?
Some people reported that the pass-through settings in the router were reversed: not setting the pass-through option actually allow traffic.
I don't think that a new router will necessarily solve your problems.
If you still want to upgrade, I would not necessarily look for a full replacement of the WRT. The WRTs (older and newer) bundle many functions inside a single box which make it versatile to use but on the other hand also has it downsides when one function influences some other for instance.
You can easily turn your old WRT into an access point for your LAN. If you want to buy a new router I would rather look into a wired router maybe even considering one with a VPN server built-in. Then you can establish the tunnel to the VPN router instead of a server inside your LAN. But you have to check the VPN routers carefully if they really support the client you want to use for the connection. Some are limited.

  • Need help choosing a new all in one printer. Help!!!

I'm so sick my hp d135
It has given me nothing but pain.multiple users never worked
    ink cartriges never lasted.
And I've had a scanner failure for the past two years.
shame on me I kept it this long.

MacFormat magazine (http://www.macformat.co.uk/) has a Buyer's Guide section at the back of each issue of the magazine where they recommend the best hardware and software for your Mac. Under printers they highly rate the Canon PIXMA MG8150 and the Canon PIXMA MG6150 (bear in mind that these are UK model numbers and the same printers may have different model numbers in your country!).

  • Need help choosing a new motherboard for my k430!

Hello, last christmas I got a k430 desktop, then this christmas got a Nvidia GTX 780, and a 750w PSU from Corsair. But was extremely dissapointed when I realised that my £1000 desktop could not support a higher GPU than a 560.
So after a lot of searching around I found the parts list in the user manual. The only two motherboards that are supported by my case are these two:
    ECS H61 MATX 1.0 95W MB @RTL8111F_A662(R)
MSI Z75 MATX MB MP MB@RTL8111E_ALC892®
My main question is wil a Asus Z75 run a gtx 780 (and is it the same thing that is listed above).
    Thank you for your time.

Did you try putting your 780 in? I"ve currently got a 660ti in mine K430 and it worked no problem.

  • Help on purchasing a Home Theater System...

    Hi everyone,
I just bought a new HDTV and I am now looking into getting a good Home Theater System, since as I'm sure you all know, the speakers on my TV are pretty pathetic.
But in all honestly, I really don't know much at all about speakers and home theater systems, so that's why I'm here.
I hear that most home theater systems come with DVD and Bluray players, but I don't need either of those, since my ps3 and 360 give me 2 DVD players and a Bluray player already.
I am really looking to spend less than 400 bucks, or around that area if possible.
I also have one question: My HDTV only has 2 HDMI ports and one Component port and since I am using both of those (HDMI is being used for the cable and ps3 and component is used for my 360) I am wondering if there is some other way of connecting the Home Theater System?
Thanks in advance for all your help.
    Solved!

    paulmohr wrote:
Ok after looking at the manual for that reciever this is what I come up with.
One HDMI cable running from your PS3 to the reciever (BD in would be my choice)
One HDMI cable running from your Cable box to the receiver (dvd in would by my choice)
Now for you Xbox 360 you said you have the component cables for it, from what I can tell you can also get an HDMI connector as well. What you choose is up to you but this is how it would work.
    Xbox with component cables:
Since the receiver doesn't have component swtiching you would have to hook the xbox up to your tv with the component cables ( the way it is now).
Then run an optical audio cable from the xbox to the receiver SAT optical in.
If you get the HDMI cable most likely you would just run the HDMI cable from the Xbox to the receiver like the other components. If you went this route I would hook the xbox to the dvd hdmi in and the cable box to the SAT hdmi in though. Honestly it doesn't matter but it just might be less confusing that way.
Then you would need on optical cable running from the TV out to the TV in on the reciever. If you never watch regular tv you don't need this since the sound will come from your cable box anyway. But if you also have the tv hooked up to an antenna or something this will send the sound to the receiver.
And one HDMI cable running from the Receiver out to on the HDMI inputs on the tv. This is what will carry all of the signals going into your receiver to your tv.
And then the speakers connections which should be described in the instructions for the receiver. Just make sure the polarity is right when you connect them.
This configuration will let you control most or all of the components through the receiver since it switches most of them. Just choose the correct input and the tv will display it.
Okay, so according to that, I would need 4 HDMI cables to my HDTV, which would be impossible.... Unfortunately, my new HDTV only has 2 HDMI porsts, so is there a way to get around that issue? If I use HDMI for the ps3 and HD cable box, then is there a way to hook everything else up (including the reciever) without HDMI?
    Thanks in advance.
