NEED HELP! Connecting Airport Extreme wirelessly to an Xbox 360!

Hi there,
I just purchased an Apple Airport Extreme 3 days ago and I can't get it to fully work with my XBox 360 with the official wirelessly networking adapter. I've spent the last 2 days trying every conceivable option and setup to get these devices to work.... but can't. When I turn on my Xbox it DOES connect to Xbox Live and the wireless network created by the airport. I do the "Test Xbox Live" thing, and everything comes back "Confirmed" or "Okay", I can search marketplace and download game demos and such. But whenever I go to play a game on Xbox Live it say it "can't connect to server" or "no games found" etc.... I've tried this with 4 games; Halo 3, Halo 2, Gears of War, and Call of Duty 3 - and I can't play on Xbox Live with any of them. They did work fine like 10 days ago on an old D-link router I had before it broke, but now I have NO IDEA what the ** is going on. I've tried everything - I've set the router to b/g only, turned off all security, manually set the IP address on the xbox, etc... and I still can't play any games on live. I know my Xbox live subscription is still good and I've downloaded all the latest updates and firmware for my Xbox, router, and computer - and still nothing works. So any help out there would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
John

Hello John Groshko. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Unfortunately, the AirPorts are not listed as Xbox Live-compatible routers.
The following web blog does a great job explaining the NAT issues with Xbox Live. Basically what it comes down to is that although you can get an Internet connection for the Xbox or Xbox 360 with the AirPorts, you may not get the necessary NAT setting (Moderate or Open) for the Xbox Live game that you want to play.

  • Cable needed to connect airport extreme?

How do I connect airport extreme to older speakers which are connected to older receiver amp? Do I need USB to radio jack? Have Itunes on IMAC , os 10.4.11. I know I need to update os sy to 10.5. I have new Iphone. I want to use remote app to send music to speakers.

There is not an audio port on the AirPort Extreme, so it cannot be used to stream audio per your question.
An AirPort Express will do the job.

  • Please help: connection issues (ATT, Time Capsule and xbox 360 live)

I am having near constant issues with my home network, so I am hoping to tap in to the collected knowledge of the internets to help sort things out.
Main issue: daily/hourly internet disconnection. Now, my 360 wireless adaptor can't even see the network. Ugh. Basically, I am hoping someone could give me the "best" configuragtion (ie settings for network, Time Capsule, 360 and/or wireless adaptor) for my current set-up.
    My set up:
LinkSys modem from ATT (in bridge mode)-->
    Apple Time Capsule (router) -->
Mad Catz 360 wireless network adaptor -->
    Xbox 360
I have spent some time looking through the forums but keep running into conflicting recommendations and nothing I have tried so far seems to have helped. Thanks (in advance) for the help.

So, you must have somehow reconfigured the 2wire to perform as a simple modem, even though it is a full fledged modem/router combination. I've see the 2wire, but never configured one, so I can't offer a lot of help there.
Was there a particular reason why you configured the 2wire as a bridge when you could have simply configured the TC as a bridge to work with the 2wire? In other words, the 2wire would do the PPPoE service along with DHCP and NAT.
Maybe you tried it this way and something didn't work?
We've seen a number of posts from users who are having issues with the TC doing the PPPoE service. I just wonder if you are not betting off letting the 2wire do what the ISP intended it to do.

  • Need help with Airport Extreme and my new Verizon Fios Internet connection

I just got the Fios install, and the tech and I couldn't figure out how to use my Airport Extreme as my wireless connection. I'm not real tech savvy (and I've only been a Mac guy for about 18 months). My current arrangement is the basic Verizon setup with the Airport out of the loop. How can I go about moving from here back to using my Airport Extreme? I need the range! Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you tried resetting and reconfiguring the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS)?
Are you using OS 10.5 or OS 10.4 or earlier?
Are you using the round 802.11b/g AEBS or the square 802.11b/g/n AEBS?
If you are using OS10.5 OR the square 802.11b/g/n AEBS you should refer to "Designing AirPort Networks Using AirPort Utility" (direct PDF link).
Otherwise you should refer to "Designing AirPort Extreme Networks" (direct PDF link).

  • Need help connecting to internet wirelessly

Please help. I just had Comcast high-speed Internet installed in my home yesterday. I opted for their free d-link modem and wireless router promotion. When I connect the modem directly to my g4 ibook, I have Internet access. However, I'm having trouble connecting the d-link router. (I swear I've read the directions, but I don't understand.) The Internet coaxial hooks to the modem. The modem hooks to the router. The tech at d-link told me to connect the router to my laptop to "configure it"--whatever that means. Apparently he did it for me through the Internet. But then when I unhook the router from the laptop to use the Internet wirelessly (that's the point, right?), I lose the Internet access. I consulted the Apple manual for help, but it seems to only give me directions for configuring my laptop for a wireless connection to an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station. I'm not using an Airport Extreme Base Station. I have a d-link router. (The tech at Apple said they're the same thing.) Do I need to tell my computer to recognize the d-link router? How do I do that? I am very frustrated at what is probably something very obvious to all you computer-literate people out there. Please speak slowly for me.

Thank you for responding, Duane. Since I am at work right now, and my laptop is at home, I went to the AppleStore site to look up the specifications of my laptop. It has a built-in 54 Mbps AirPort Extreme (Wi-fi 812.11g). That's what you mean by an AirPort card, right?
So it seems I'm ready? You say to make sure AirPort is enabled? I will check that as soon as I get home, but I do recall the AirPort icon at the top (a gray icon that resembles radio waves) and I even clicked on it yesterday--from what I could tell through my tears of frustration--but I think it said "no network is available". What do you mean when you say choose my "network name" from the AirPort menu? What is a "network name"? I must be doing something wrong.
Based on my obvious cluelessness, you would be surprised at the ways I incorporate the use of technology in my classroom. I can teach my students to use Apple programs in amazing ways, but I am ignorant when it comes to a lot of the vocabulary that's necessary to work my way through this wireless router matter. Please bear with me.

My Airport Extreme cannot be discovered by my macbook pro. Need help.

New, out of the box, the AirPort Extreme is broadcasting a wireless signal with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx.
If you want to configure the AirPort Extreme using wireless, you must log on to this network first from your Mac.
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the screen, click Join Other Network, click Show Networks, select the Apple Network xxxxxx and log on. No password is required. Then open AirPort Utility.
    Or
If you have a spare Ethernet cable handy, connect it from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme to establish a direct connection. Then open AirPort Utility.

  • Need help connecting to BEFW11S4 wireless network

A friend I visit often has a BEFW11S4 router. Other friends who visit connect immediately to the unsecured wireless network. Unfortunately, for unknown reasons I'm unable to connect with either of my laptops, so have to plug in the LAN. This is the only place I've ever had a problem connecting to a wireless network.
My laptops are Toshiba Satellites, running Windows XP Home & Office, respectively. Sometimes they won't even recognize the network, or when they do, just won't connect. I've gone through the tutorial and all settings numerous times, turned off the firewall, turned off Norton and still no luck. Any help getting me connected is appreciated. Thanks.

In your computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use.  Delete any existing entry for your friend's network.   Reboot your computer.  Return to "Preferred Networks" and add your friends SSID.  Then select this SSID and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.  You should login automatically when computer boots up.
    Hope this helps.

You likely already have the AirPort Utility application on your new Mac.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
AirPort Utillity 5.5.3 is the current version
If for some reason, you do not have it, you can download it from here:

  • Need Help using WRT54GL as Wireless Bridge for Xbox

    Hi.
I need help configuring my WRT54GL as a wireless bridge for my xbox.
I have a Billion BiPAC 7404VGO currently in service as my main router/modem. i.e. I have my ADSL connection and PC connected to this. I also connect to this with a laptop.
I have an original xbox at the other end of the house (cat5 NOT an option).
Basically I want to connect my xbox to the rest of network. I have a WRT54GL I can use for this. I just dont know how to set it up.
The WRT54GL has Firmware Version: v4.30.7 (out of the box).
My Wireless network is using WPA.
I have a VPN setup through to work via the Billion.
The idea is to stream media from my PC to the xbox (media centre).
Any help would be HUGELY appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

A wireless router is a device which requires its own wired internet connection. A wireless router is not a wireless access point like the Linksys WAPs. A wireless router does not connect wireless to other wireless routers/APs with standard Linksys firmware. With Linksys firmware you need a WAP54G or similar. The WAPs support wireless bridging and repeater mode.
If you already have a WRT54GL then you have to install a 3rd party firmware which adds wireless bridging capabilities. Read the wikipedia article on "WRT54G" for information about which WRT models support 3rd party firmware and an overview of projects and links.
Remember, however, that you may brick your router if you install a 3rd party firmware incorrectly and you probably void the warranty if you install 3rd party firmware (it is even possible to find out after you restore the original Linksys firmware if you don't clear the NVRAM before).

  • Help using powerbook as wireless adapter for Xbox 360

Ok I need help partially opening my NAT. I have a Linksys WRT54G. And I play on Xbox Live a lot. The other day I moved the xbox into my living room where our new tv is and then I hooked my G4 Powerbook up to the xbox and did internet sharing because I have no internet connection in there besides wireless. Whenever I use a wired connection on the xbox is says my NAT is open. But whenever I use my laptop it says my NAT is Moderate, and it makes it hard to get into any games. I don't want to chip out the money for a $100 microsoft adapter because I will rarely play xbox in their. So how do I go about opening up the NAT the rest of the way.
http://www.ofzenandcomputing.com/zanswers/61 there is how I did it, but I setup the xbox with a static IP
On my router I have ports 88 and 3074 open which make the NAT open on wired connection. So I am thinking I may need to open those ports on the laptop itself? I am not sure if I can open ports on the laptop for outgoing connections.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Airport Extreme (2009) USB disk & Xbox 360?

    Hi all
Does anybody know if an Xbox 360 should be able to see the a USB Airport Disk over the wireless network?
Setup is as follows; Xbox 360 connecting to Airport extreme over 5GHz 802.11a using genuine MS Xbox wireless adapter. Connects to Live just fine. Open NAT. Streams media from connected Vista shared folders and also Media Centre.
I have connected an external USB drive (Tried as both HFS+ & Fat32 format) to the Airport Extreme. All PC's on the network wired & wireless can access the shared files. Xbox 360 cannot see the external drive over the network no matter what. Have tried connecting via guest network with no security. Drive is seen just fine plugged directly into the Xbox via USB. Am I wasting my time?
    Thanks in advance,
    Cameron

I'm gonna have to bump as well as I've been looking into this setup (Airport Extreme with USB Attached Hard Drive formatted HFS+ & Xbox 360). I've done many searches on these two products working together and no solution yet. I've read of other (non Apple) routers having a third party software allowing xbox 360 to see usb attached NAS.. Hoping Airport Extreme can provide this solution instead

  • Airport Extreme 802.11n and XBox 360 Disonnects

I've been using the Airport Xtreme 802.11n for about a week now and have been frequently disconnected from Xbox live on my xbox 360. The NAT is open and I'm directly connected to the router via an ethernet cable. I've given the 360 a static IP address and have forwarded ports 88 and 3074. The disconnects have happened both while in the middle of a online game and while I'm just on the Dashboard. Does anyone have any suggestions or is anyone else experiencing this. Please Help! It's extremely frustrating!

I have been having this problem as well. It says the server timed out, then my AEBS starts flashing yellow. Sometimes it goes back to green on its own, then other times I have to open up the airport setup. Oddly mine happens the same time every night, give or take 5 minutes.
For more info on my setup: XBOX360 wired to the AEBS, connected to a Motorola modem. At&t DSL is my ISP.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • AirPort Extreme doesn't detect Xbox 360 via Ethernet Cable

Apple replaced my Airport Extreme a couple of days ago due to a power surge, but since then I've verified that everything else works just fine.  My Airport extreme won't work with my Xbox 360!  I have verified all the cables work, I have plugged the ethernet cable directly into the modem and the xbox will connect, but when I plug the ethernet cable into the airport it won't work.  I have tested all of the ports on the Airport and they work perfectly.  It's as if the Airport isn't giving the ethernet cable enough power to get to the xbox or something.  I'm very confused...  It has worked just fine in the past.  Has anyone experience anything even close to this or know how to fix it?

If  you have a cable modem, it needs a complete reset.
Push the reset button and power it down
Pulll the battery if it is easily accessible
Power down everything else on the network...all devices...order is not important
    Wait at least 15 minutes
Power up the modem first and let it run 2-3 minutes by itself
Power up the AEBS and let it run 2-3 minutes
Power up each device and let it run a minute or so before you power up the next device.
If you have a DSL modem, power everything on the network down and wait a few minutes, then power up in sequence as above.

  • Airport Extreme Base Station and XBOX 360 Compatability?

    Hi There,
I'm looking for some advice please.
I have just ordered a AEBS as I have been told that the Belkin N1 wireless router that I bought last week is incompatable with my macbook. I have read reports that the AEBS doesn't connect with the XBOX 360. These reports were from a while ago. Does anybody know if this has been sorted on the versions shipping now?
    Thanks

What you mean the router is incompatible? Is supposed to work regardless of the brand.Apple uses "n" at the 5ghz frequency (ala "a").Everybody else uses 2.4 ghz.and still you can connect because is b and g frequencies.
I don't know if the n speeds can be accomplished at 2.4 ghz.A friend has alinksys draft n router and I connected fine.
Regarding theABSE & 360: if it is the "n" one you can use it with xbox live I'm using it plugged to the base station.I resetted my network settings in the 360 and it worked after that(before I couldn't go online).

  • Airport Extreme Base Station and Xbox 360

Can someone please help me figure out why every time I turn on my xbox 360 I have to sign-out of my profile and run the connection test? It always works fine and I can sign in to Xbox Live after that, it just requires me to go through two extra steps whereas it usually signs right in. HELP! Thanks in advance.

so, what did you do to fix it?
simply for the fact that if I hook up my old linksys (which I don't want to HAVE to do) I no longer experience the problem, I can't agree that the problem is the 360. I could agree that neither MS nor Apple designed one with the other in mind and that could be the problem I guess, if no one can help, guess I will just hook that nasty linksys back up.
