I am new to Crystal Reports and need some help figuring out how to connect to my database. I am using Crystal Reports XI and the database is Progress ver 91 (at least as best I can tell, anyway).

First you need to make sure you have the proper OBDC driver installed so Windows knows where to look. What OS is on your desktop?

Hello,
I assume GBS Agency Expert 6.7.6c is some sort of database or data source? If you have an ODBC driver then create or use a System DSN to the database. Then you can create a report using that DSN.
Otherwise I suggest you contact the makers of GBS Agency Expert 6.7.6c and ask them how to connect to the database.
Let them know CR is ANSII 92 ODBC 3 compliant.

Need help connecting to Oracle to create database

Am student taking DBA course; have altered pfile so that path shows where createdb is located. Cannot connect to Oracle; keep getting message "insufficient privileges." Createdb file amended per book to "REMOTE_LOGIN_PASWORDFILE=exclusive" and still can't connect. Can I grant connect privileges to internal/oracle? Tried several times to create database and am now using new database name to try again, but when I get to svrmgrl and type in "connect internal" and give password "oracle" as book says to do I get the "insufficient privileges" message again. Need help.

when you use exclusive in remote_login_passwordfile is necessary make one file. Use the following instructions:
orapw file=orapw<SID> password=<password> entries=<users>
where
file=name of password file (mandatory)
password=password for SYS and INTERNAL (mandatory)
entries=maximum number of distinct DBA and OPERs (opt)
There are no spaces around the equal to (=) character.
Find orapwd.exe by Windows Explorer

I do not think MCPKit will help you on the iPhone. It is just an Objective-C wrapper around the standard mysql libraries which are not available for the iPhone. Your best bet would be to post on the mysql forums and see if you can get any help.
You can try extracting the mysql client library source code into a separate static library project, and see if you can get it to build for the iPhone.

Need help connecting to a database with an applet

I am making a Java game that runs in an applet and needs to connect to a Java DB database. I created the database and table in NetBeans and now I have no idea how to connect this applet to the database. I tried using a DataSource and an InitialContext and I got a NoInitialContextException. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Already made the InitialContext. This is the code I used in the applet:

For your information it does work when connected directly to my mac using a USB Cable.

In most cases you can connect to the Windows shared printer from the Mac. But there is a dependence on the Mac driver being compatible. For many consumer inkjets, the vendor created driver cannot be used for this type of connection so you need to look at alternative drivers, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab. If you can tell us which brand and model of printer you have shared from Windows then we can answer your question with the preferred procedure on the Mac.

I need help connecting my LaserJer M1212nf MFP to my home wirless network. I would like to use Apple's AirPrint, and be able to print from my iPad.

This is NOT a wireless printer (see product spec: http://www.shopping.hp.com/shopping/pdf/ce841a.pdf), you can NOT add the printer to the wireless network. This printer do support LAN connection, so if your wireless router has LAN ports, you can added it to your home network by connecting a network cable from the printer to a LAN port on the router. You need then reinstall the printer as a network printer, to use airprint.

Recently purchased an Audigy 2 ZS?Platinum?Pro sound card. I need help figuring out how to get sound when I us the tv tuner for my?All-In-Wonder?9600XT video card. The audio output on the video card needs an audio input to connect on the sound card, but this sound card?does not appear have one.
Does anyone know how I can connect the video card to sound card so I get sound when using tv tuner? Where is the micro In line?I have it on the front panel on the external unit!!? But I would don't use this In line for this application!On my old sound card SB Li've! Platinum, I had a line at the rear PCI card (Line In & Micro Line In) and I had two others Line In on the Front Panel, It's the best, but this old card work only with Win 98 or Win 2000.... ? Need Help existing Crystal 8.5 to Ver.11 Install and SmartViewerActiveX.asp

How to get my reports working, required Install onto Server? Version Changes to Code?
Like other developers I am trying to reconfigure an existing solution / application that uses Crystal Reports 8.5 & RDC to call and display reports now moving to Crystal Reports XI =Ver.11.   Here is an almost identical issue that I have used for the basis of my question.

Just like the linked site's questions for the reports, our ActiveX viewer is called from within the ASP code SmartViewerActiveX.asp from Ver 8.5, we now have Crystal Reports XI = Ver.11 Developer.
However I am not sure that the other site was clear with the procedure for deployment and setup and that's why I am seeking help with the Crystal Reports we have in our projects.
Do I install Crystal Reports XI Developer onto the Server to get the VIEWER?
What configuration is required so that the NEW Ver. 11 viewer works with 8.5?
What code changes are required to use a new Activex Viewer object?
I have legacy Crystal Reports solution using 8.5 and moving to Crystal Ver. 11. Need help with clear requirements for what is required and how to install the required components to the WEB SERVER / IIS Server. Using "Unmanaged" Reports with Crystal Dev. Edition Ver. 8.5 to Ver. 11. Currently 8.5 is not working I suspect due to the viewer not being installed to the server.

I have not found a virtual folder reference to a folder that contains, /viewer9/activeXViewer/activexviewer.cab on the IIS server. Keep in mind this is a NEW server with many of the application solutions copied to it without complete migration steps and possibly missing installation steps such as Crystal Reports Developer CD Ver.11.
Below are the steps I had found at the LINK above, however I need validation if this is the correct steps and clarification of the steps. This will eventually be going onto a PRODUCTION server and I need to minimize the possibility of killing other apps and potentially the server. (Windows 2003 Server, with Mainly VISTA and Win 7 clients via IE. 8 to present version.)

Still not there yet with a solution or option from the last reply....
I tried to be as brief as possible, however it appears that there are MANY issues surrounding Crystal Reports in General let alone the versions and applications that had been developed and very little straight forward information on how to migrate/move and use existing applications on NEW servers (NOTE: Old CR 8.5 is running in a newer environment as it had been developed at the Company that had previously owned us.).
I am trying to get the application that is OLD re-deployed into a new company, with old data, old reports, just to make the existing solution work.   Crystal Reports Ver. 11 was brought into the mix when a copy of Crystal 8.5 could not be purchased by our new company. Right after purchase of Ver.11, I was able to get the original 8.5 DEV CD and License from our old company.

A: This is what is on the server that the Crystal Reports 8.5 solution is running on in the server environment that it currently is running and working in. PROBLEM.. The Our Comapny is no longer part of the other Company... They have theirs running without issue with Crystal 8.5 Reports, and the command line listed above on their IIS server... This is what was given to me to migrate into our NEW Company environment.

Why Can't I just install this using the CR Dev. CD.? The Product was purchased with 2 Licenses.
I also have the OLD Crystal Reports Developer Ver. 8.5 CD that could be used to re-deploy the viewers.
Q: Did you realize that the RDC is retired in CR 11.5?... ETC..
A: Yes, again why cant the existing solution of Crystal Reports 8.5 RPT files be used on the IIS server being called via Crystal Reports 8.5 Viewers... I have access to the original 8.5 CD,.. Again not sure how to deploy the VIEWERS part to the server..
Trying to get the simplest solution to have the existing 8.5 Reports, running from the IIS Web Server using the ActiveX viewer and URL Calls...

Need help connecting to the internet via Dial-up?

Hi! My son and his mini have moved back to Vermont, and where he is only dial-up is available. I thought the hookup would be simple......I haven't a clue. I have been on high spped cable for so long that I need help!!!!! Here is what I tried. Phone cable to the modem. (Can't connect it directly to the mini because it only takes an ethernet cable) USB cable from the modem to the mini. Using the Verizon software we got nowhere because we could not get a connection...Need help, Thanks Bill

The first bit of info is which Verizon number to use to dial-up, so that it is a local call. Is your son going to call from Essex Jct or somewhere else? Basically we need his area code and first three digits of phone number, if you are comfortable giving that. Otherwise you'll have to call Verizon and ask them for the local number to call.
Then we have to look up how Verizon wants login info. Perhaps another customer can help here. The conventions vary from one ISP to another. Please don't give us you login here!
That should be enough to get you connected and surfing. Then we have to configure the mail program. But again a little research or help from another Verizon customer will do the trick.
Please don't install their software. I've spent countless hours removing ISPs' extra software from friends computers. Such software does not necessarily make things faster and it leaves you with a non-standard system. It's also about getting their hooks into you to push more advertising at you and more revenue their way. (This helps explain why they are so eager for you to use their software BTW.)
There are techniques to speed up dial-up, but they don't involve extra ISP software and ads. They have to do with keeping the ads away in the first place.

Need help connecting external monitor

My brother needs help with connecting an external monitor to his 20" iMac G5. He has the adapter with the standard monitor port, and when plugged in, the monitor duplicates the iMac screen. His question is, how can he set it so that the desktop is extended, instead of duplicated? I, myself, have a MacBook and two months ago I used my adapter to connect a projector, and I remember an option where I could choose between duplicate and extended desktop, and right now I tried to find it on my MacBook and well as my Intel iMac and I can't find the option, and neither can he.

The iMac G5 can only mirror the internal display unless you hack the firmware.
Display options like that only appear when you connect a display which is why you can't see them on the MB at the moment.
